Remember: Plagiarism in ANY form is NOT tolerated!!!!! ============================================== ============================================== ============================================== INTRODUCTION This guide presents my personal viewpoints on the handling of each car in V-Rally 3. Note that not all cars are available initially in the game; however, acquiring the bonus cars is not covered in this guide (instead, please see my V-Rally 3: Game Guide for details on unlocking bonus cars and other extra features of the game). The information concerning car handling is done by selecting two stages in Time Attack Mode, and having all cars run in their default configurations on both of these stages. The first stage is Africa Track 1, due to its long straightaways and its inherent need for pure speed over cornering ability. The second stage is Germany Track 3, for its excessive number of corners favoring cornering ability over top-end speed combined with its long uphill and downhill runs. This also tests how the cars react to different terrain types; Africa Track 1 uses both rough gravel and soft gravel, while Germany Track 3 uses both (dry) asphalt and icy asphalt. Note that this information is based upon my rather-aggressive driving style, and so may not necessarily reflect other players' approaches to the game. ============================================== ============================================== ============================================== 1.6L FWD CLASS Citroen Sport Saxo - Africa Track 1: Max speed approx. 100MPH, slow to accelerate, easy to slide through corners without fear of losing car control - Germany Track 3: Handles well, but still somewhat twitchy in high-speed downhill cornering Punto - Africa Track 1: Max speed approx. 100MPH, slow to accelerate, requires a good measure of countersteering should the rear of the vehicle swing about too much due to rear weight - Germany Track 3: VERY slow to accelerate out of tight corners, especially travelling up a mountainside; twitchy, especially on long downhill runs with numerous corners Ford Puma - Africa Track 1: Max speed approx. 105MPH, slow to accelerate; brakes not as strong as one might expect, but it is still easy to slide through corners without fear of losing car control - Germany Track 3: Good handling overall, with acceptable acceleration; braking could potentially be a problem if the proper braking zones are not acknowledged Peugeot 206 1.6L - Africa Track 1: Max speed approx. 100MPH, slow to accelerate, noticeable measure of understeer - Germany Track 3: Quite easy to slide the vehicle around many corners without losing car control, but quick to oversteer when countersteering Renault Sport Clio - Africa Track 1: Max speed approx. 100MPH, slow to accelerate; EXTREMELY twitchy in steering, thus requires the utmost precision to avoid inadvertent oversteer - Germany Track 3: Rather difficult to slide around corners with any respectable speed; some understeer Opel Motorsport Corsa - Africa Track 1: Max speed approx. 100MPH, best acceleration in the 1.6L FWD class; fairly easy to slide through most corners without losing car control - Germany Track 3: Weight of car makes uphill runs VERY slow and tedious, whereas downhill runs are fast and furious; vehicle suffers from minor understeer, especially when travelling downhill at high speeds Volkswagon Racing Polo - Africa Track 1: Max speed approx. 100MPH, not quite as slow to accelerate; fairly easy to slide through most corners without losing car control - Germany Track 3: Solid handling overall, although a hair slower than most other vehicles in 1.6L FWD class on long uphill runs MG ZR EX258 - Africa Track 1: Max speed approx. 100MPH, not quite as slow to accelerate; somewhat easy to slide through most corners without losing car control - Germany Track 3: Best-handling car in 1.6L FWD class; strong, solid power for long uphill runs; quite easy to control even when throwing the car around corners ============================================== 2.0L 4WD CLASS Peugeot 206 2.0L - Africa Track 1: Max speed approx. 115MPH, good acceleration; terrible oversteer - Germany Track 3: Excellent speed overall, especially on long uphill runs, although the inherent twitchiness makes high-speed cornering extremely difficult on the narrow asphalt road Subaru Imprezza - Africa Track 1: Max speed approx. 115MPH, poor acceleration due to vehicle weight; somewhat difficult to slide through corners reliably; vehicle weight is a major detriment :-( - Germany Track 3: NEAR-PERFECTION in terms of speed and handling, with very powerful braking; beautiful handling when sliding the car through corners Ford Focus RS - Africa Track 1: Max speed approx. 110MPH, average acceleration - Germany Track 3: Great speed, powerful braking, but handling could definitely be improved Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII - Africa Track 1: Max speed approx. 110MPH. slightly slow to accelerate; noticeable understeer - Germany Track 3: EXCELLENT speed and braking; nearly as great as the Subaru Imprezza (above) Citroen Sport Xsara - Africa Track 1: Max speed approx. 110MPH. slightly slow to accelerate; minor countersteering required when throwing the car around corners; brakes not as strong as they really should be for rally racing - Germany Track 3: FAR too twitchy to be reliable in its default configuration; extremely dangerous to throw around corners at high speeds; the severe lack of vehicle weight simply worsens these inherent conditions of the car Hyundai Motorsport Accent - Africa Track 1: Max speed approx. 110MPH, strong acceleration; nice handling overall - Germany Track 3: While not quite as bad as the Citroen Sport Xsara, the lack of vehicle weight definitely makes the car twitchy Toyota Corolla - Africa Track 1: Max speed approx. 115MOH, slightly slow in acceleration; brakes should be stronger; vehicle weight can make handling rather difficult, especially in consecutive quick-flick corners - Germany Track 3: A true joy to drive, although not quite as good in handling as the Subaru Imprezza or the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII (see above); can easily be thrown around corners while still maintaining a high degree of vehicle control SEAT Sport Cordoba Telefonica - Africa Track 1: Max speed approx. 110MPH, one of the best in the 2.0L 4WD class for acceleration; good handling overall - Germany Track 3: EXTREMELY twitchy, especially in high- speed runs, making it virtually impossible to throw the car into corners with any chance of success ============================================== BONUS CAR CLASS SEAT Cordoba Repsol - Africa Track 1: Max speed approx. 105MPH, slow to accelerate; very difficult to handle when throwing the car into corners - Germany Track 3: EXCELLENT braking ability, but the praise for the Cordoba Repsol ends here; cornering is virtually IMPOSSIBLE due to the twitchiness combined with inherent oversteer Subaru Imprezza - Africa Track 1: Max speed approx. 110MPH. slightly slow to accelerate; smooth handling, rather easy to control when sliding through corners at high speeds - Germany Track 3: Slightly twitchy, but the main problem with the Imprezza is its overabundance of horsepower, which makes high-speed cornering extremely dangerous at best Mitsubishi Lancer - Africa Track 1: Max speed approx. 110MPH, average acceleration; average handling, but slightly difficult when cornering at high speeds - Germany Track 3: Twitchier than the Subaru Imprezza (above), the Lancer is even harder to control in its default configuration - again, largely due to the overabundance of horsepower Toyota Corolla V-Rally - Africa Track 1: Max speed approx. 110MPH, very nice acceleration; great handling, smooth and easy to control when sliding through corners at high speeds - Germany Track 3: The least twitchy of the Bonus Cars, the Corolla V-Rally is still extremely difficult to control - again, due primarily to the excessive horsepower ============================================== ============================================== ============================================== CONTACT INFORMATION For questions, rants, raves, comments of appreciation, etc., or to be added to my e-mail list for updates to this driving guide, please contact me at: FEATHER7@IX.NETCOM.COM;
