The use of the search function can help minimize this, if you are looking for a particular section. First and foremost... NO, YOU MAY NOT PUBLISH MY GUIDE ON YOUR SITE. This is a GameFAQS.com exclusive guide. Why? Because of sites like CheatCC.com that steal guides. This is the only way I can be sure that my guide is only where I want it to be. Yes, I agree that CJayC sold out, but his site is still the biggest and the best... For now. Second, no questions or submissions. I don't have time to answer questions, and I am not looking for any help with my guide right now. Once I finish my New Game+, I will accept some. A few exceptions. Library book scripts, Comment Box scripts, and Newspaper articles. I will accept these if they are complete (all the books, all the news, or all the comments). These pieces will receive their own section and will be clearly marked as to who submitted them. Because of the format requirements of guides submitted to GameFAQs.com, I may have to reformat them a little, or maybe pretty them up, but otherwise will be unchanged. Currently, I'm really overwhelmed with work and school... Also, I have a lot of information jotted down, but I've yet to transfer it here, until it's about complete... I've got big things planned, but unfortunatly, I'm just getting stuff out there right now. Polishing will have to come later. For your convenience, I have included a search function. just hit Ctrl-F (or whatever your search command is), and search for the tag for each section. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------Section 0: Contents---------------------------------------(su_cont)------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Section 0 - Contents (su_cont) Section 1 - New This Update (su_newt) Section 2 - Frequently Asked Questions / Gameplay Tips (su_faqs) Section 3 - Walkthrough (su_walk) Section 4 - Character Recruitment (su_chre) Section 5 - Stars List (su_star) Section 6 - Your Stronghold (su_stro) Section 7 - Smithing (su_smit) Section 8 - Armor (su_armo) Section 9 - Runes (su_rune) Section 10 - Items (su_item) Section 11 - Shops (su_shop) Section 12 - Combo Attacks (su_comb) Section 13 - Treasure Hunting (su_trea) Section 14 - Mini Games (su_mini) Section 15 - Credits (su_cred) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------Section 1: New This Update--------------------------------(su_newt)------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- * Big update... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------Section 2: Frequently Asked Questions / Gameplay Tips-----(su_faqs)------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----Frequently Asked Questions---- Some questions just get asked a lot... If it's here, it's one of them. If not, you are further along than most, or it's just a good question. Before asking (on the message board, cause I don't have time to answer), check here. Q - Is this game any good? A - Games are like wine. A wine might taste great to me, but awful to you... On the note, if you are a fan of the series, you will like it. If you want Suikoden II-2, you won't. Q - Can I load my Suikoden 1/2/3 data? A - Neope. Personally though? I'm glad. It was a nice idea for 2, and was kind of a neat little (very) thing in 3, but... It just wouldn't work in this, as this game is a prequel. Besides... I owned all 3 games at one point, but lost my save data... I do not want to buy back all the games. Q - Where do I find ? A - Most likely, it will have it's own section. Use the search feature to skip straight to it. Otherwise, if I know, it will be included in the Walkthrough section. Q - I went to when you said, but wasn't there? A - I do not know why. I wrote this guide exactly as it happened to me. I did however, notice that landing on the ship would sometimes trigger events that would not occur when teleporting. Also, try talking to people. I generally talked to everyone, after any major event. I tried to list times when I suspected that speaking to a certain person was necessary. Q - What is Hero's official name? A - Konami didn't give Hero 1 or 2 a first name, and neither on 4. Tir and Riou are not official names, just widely accepted. ----Gameplay Tips---- * Holding R1 activates a super dash... Even when sailing. * Apparently, if you get too close to an island, it will push you away. If it won't let you turn, try to get further from land. * Equipping a lottery ticket on your head, increases your luck, and the chance of getting a good prize. Wearing one for long enough will turn it into a lucky ticket, which adds +10 luck, instead of +1. * When that little yellow bar on the bottom of the battle screen fills up, you can use your Rush special attack. It can only be used if Hero is in your party, and everyone is able to accept commands (meaning no one can be asleep, unconscious, etc.). It is a free attack, for about 200 damage per enemy, and heals Hero for about 300. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------Section 3: Walkthrough------------------------------------(su_walk)------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Begin a new game, name your character, and set the settings how you feel most comfortable. Soon as the game begins, enjoy the intro, and prepare for the major battle. ----Engagement---- Major Battle: ????? vs. Snowe's Ship One enemy against your one ship. This battle is really more of a tutorial. If you follow the directions, I don't even think you can be hurt. Keep following the directions, and you will sink the enemy ship. After the battle, you will be boarded. --Boss: ??? and ????-- Hero and Snowe will have to face the captain of the other ship, and one of his crew. Again, another tutorial fight. It lasts only a few turns, and just shows you the basics of fighting. You can't win or lose. After the fight, your commander, Glen, will challenge you to a duel. Accept. This is yet another tutorial. Introducing you to the final of the battle types. --Duel: Glen-- If you haven't played the other Suikodens, this will be new to you. If you have, it's slightly different. Basically, it's rock-paper-scissors. You have to examine your opponents dialogue, and predict his next move. The three types of moves are Guarding (hinted at by an offer to test your strength or sign that the opponent is scared), normal attacks (a bit harder to decipher, but the comments are usually just implying a standard offence), and Special (either a desperate move or attempt at a finishing blow). If the enemy guards: A normal attack will succeed, but with little damage. A special attack will be evaded, and you will be hit with a devastating counter. Guarding results in nothing. If the enemy attacks: A normal attack will cancel it out. A special will strike first, doing damage to the enemy, and receiving none. Guarding will lessen the damage you take, but will not deal any. If the enemy performs a special attack: A normal attack will not connect, and you will receive full damage. A special attack will hit, but both parties will receive some damage. Guarding will evade the strike, and perform a crushing blow. After the duel, you will be free to explore the ship. Speak to Keneth for an event, then Tal and Jewel for another, which results in you reaching shore. ----Razril---- Items: Old Book Volume 9, Steamed Bun, Water Orb, Mushroom x2, Treasure Map x2 Speak to the people nearby if you like, but ultimately, you will need to head for the gate to the courtyard. Inside, take the first door on the right. This will take you to the Audience Chamber hallway. Inside, you will find a chest, containing the Old Book Volume 9. Return to the courtyard, and enter the second door on the same side. The first door in this hall is Hero's room, and inside Hero's room is another chest, containing a Steamed Bun, and Water Orb. Head back to the courtyard, and enter the door behind Katarina. Listen to the speech at the training hall, the head back to the harbor for Snowe's ritual. Go to the gate leading to the town to start it. In the town, just continue to head west, and near the arc to the main street, an event will trigger. As you head down the main street, light every torch, the at the end, enter the square. Talk to everyone at the square, then head back down to the port. Here you will find Chiepoo, who will mention a kidnapped girl. She can be found on the Back Street. On this street, you will have to face a few enemies, but nothing hard. There is a chest, containing a mushroom, on the inn side of the area. On the far end, in one of the corners, you will find the girl, and her kidnappers. --Boss: Kiddnapper and Kidnapper's Underling-- Not too tough, if you use the Friendship Combo. Heal with items or with Snowe's rune, if needed. Take out the underling first, then the kidnapper. After saving the girl, examine the crate near her for a Treasure Map. Head back to the Hall of the Knights, and choose to rest when Snowe asks you if you would like to. The next morning, return to the same spot, and pick Snowe back up. With Snowe in your party again, head to the training hall. Your friends are waiting for you near three knights, but if you want, you can spar with some trainees first. Speak to the one trainee who isn't practicing, to accept the challenge. When you are ready though, speak to one of your friends. Here, you be able to select your party for the next while. The character's stats are all displayed for you on the first screen, but what isn't displayed is their runes. Jewel has a water rune, Paula has a wind, Tal has earth, and Keneth has lightning. You will be able to change your party a few times before you have to decide, however, the first fight is against only one knight, while any after are with two. It shouldn't be a tough fight, for Hero and Snowe, but anyone who is still level 1 has a pretty good chance of dying. But, fiddle around, and pick the two you like the best (Jewel and Paula for my play style). After you have your party, you will be able to receive your first mission, however, now is also a good time to go into town. The Armor, Equipment, and Rune shops are now open. Buy what you feel like, or don't. You won't be needing new gear yet. However, head to the square again. The inn is now open, and if you examine the bookshelf, you will find another Treasure Map. Outside the inn, and to one side, you will find Basil, and, if you didn't blow all your money, you can play him in a game with tops. On the other side of the area, is a woman who will give you a mushroom. When you are done, head back to your ship. The knight next to it will offer you two missions. One is to beat three sea encounters. The other is to deliver a message to Middleport. The first is fine, but unnecessary. Accept either one, but you will have to do the delivery eventually. ----World Map---- Items: Medicine x5 Spend some time getting used to the controls... It will take a bit of practice. If you took the first mission, just use this time to practice moving around. If you took the second, the same. :) When you feel a bit comfortable, open the menu. Select the Anchor option, to enter your ship. In the cabin, you will find a chest with emergency supplies. Take the five medicines, save if you want, then open the menu again, and select Depart. To make your way to Middleport, open your sea chart with the circle button. Take note of the nearby island. The actual town is on the other side of the island, so you will have to make your way around. When you reach the port, you will be given the option to dock. ----Middleport---- Items: 1500p, Treasure Map, Mushroom, Antitoxin, Fancy Console When you arrive, deliver the message to the knight, standing just nearby. Your reward will be a nice 1000p. Just cause we are done here though, doesn't mean it's time to leave. Middleport is a nice town. The harbor alone has a trading post and appraiser. The next area, the central square, has Gunter, and his dice games, a chest with 500p more, an equipment shop, armor shop, smithery, inn, lottery, and a Treasure Map in the barrels at the inn. The smithery can sharpen your weapons to level 3, and I would recommend it. The lottery in this game is different then in Suikoden 3. When you buy from shops, you may receive tickets. Collect five, and you will have a chance to spin for a prize (much like in Animal Crossing). On the Back Street, you will find a chest with another mushroom, and a barrel at the end with an antitoxin. In front of the Lord's Mansion, you will find a chest containing a Fancy Console. When you are done in Middleport, talk to the knight you delivered the message to, board your ship, and return to Razril. ----Razril---- Now that you passed that mission, the knight has a more challenging one for you. Return to Middleport, again. ----Middleport---- Items: 2000p Speak to the knight again, and he will tell you about a merchant who needs help. This merchant is standing next to him. Speak to the merchant, and learn about a monster that has been plaguing him. Make sure your gear is up-to-date, and board your ship. Wander around a bit until you encounter a... --Boss: Damp Hairball-- Ew..... Anyway, this thing is a pushover. Just, watch out of it's area attack, it can do about 25 damage to everyone. But, if your gear is all updated, you should face little challenge. Use any applicable runes, and attack if you don't need healing. After the fight, return to Middleport, speak to the merchant, and claim your reward of 2000p. Return once again to Razril. ----Razril---- When you arrive, report to Katarina. Hero and Snowe will be given a new mission, and the other members of your party will leave. Enter the castle, and head like you are going to Hero's room. Before entering Hero's room though, use the stairs at the end of the hall. On the second floor of the spire, you will find Glen's room. Enter, and learn about your next mission. After the briefing, head to town. Snowe will leave you at the gate, to check the ships. Head into the town, and overhear the conversation between Akaghi and Mizuki at the dock that the ship with red sails is at. Afterward, make any final preparations, and return to where Snowe left you. Snowe will rejoin you, so make your way back to the audience chamber. Speak with Ramada, and the mission will commence. On the world map, start to make your way to Iluya Island. If you Anchor the ship, you will find a knight on board you can spar with. There is also a Merchant in the cabin, that stowed-away, but will sell you basic goods. You can also talk to Snowe, to learn some foreboding info. Depart again, and continue your coarse. Before you get to Iluya however... pirates. ----Pirate Brandeau---- Major Battle: Pirate Brandeau vs. Knights of Gaien Put knight two and three on the mana cannons, and the rest on deck. In this battle, I moved the ship to the right, and engaged the flagship first. With this setup, I was able to sink the flagship without taking damage, and before the second ship could reach me. I then sank the second ship, again, without taking damage. After the major battle, Hero will have to fight with the help of a lone Knight. --Boss: Assassin and Pirate Brandeau-- Nothing too bad, if you are careful. Have Hero attack, while the knight heals, and attacks when possible. Take out the assassin first, as he is weakest. Watch out though; Pirate Brandeau can use Flaming Arrow and Kindness Drop. Don't worry if the knight dies, just finish Pirate Brandeau. After the fight, watch the events unravel, until Hero is challenged to a duel. --Duel: Pirate Brandeau-- Standard duel. You should be able to win without taking much damage, if any. After the fight, watch events continue to play out. You will awaken in Hero's room, back in Razril. ----Razril---- Items: Mega Medicine x2 When you wake up, leave Hero's room, and meet up with Snowe. He'll ask you if you will go with him to get some medicine. Accept, and head to the Equipment shop. Inside, the shopkeeper will sell Snowe what he needs. Return to the hall in front of Hero's room, and the cook will call you. Snowe will leave you to deliver one of the medicines, and give you the remaining two. Speak with the cook to get Glen's meal. Take the medicine and meal to Glen, and watch the events. After you get kicked out, head downstairs to the courtyard. When the pirates attack, act the brave man, and tell your friends they should all fight. Head back to your ship, and talk to the knight, to start the battle. ----Retribution---- Major Battle: Pirate Dario vs. Knights of Gaien Another easy battle. Set Jewel as your gunner, and you should have no trouble. The first ship should go down without doing any damage. The flag ship however, can fire shots you can't stop... I said it was easy though, and that's cause his shots did 3 damage to Hero's ship, and 3-11 to Snowe's. After the battle, Dario will flee. Snowe will chase after, but Hero will rescue him. When you land again, return to Glen's room for more praise. Return to Hero's room, and examine the bed to rest. In the morning, the cook will want you to deliver another meal. Bring Glen his food again, and pirates will attack again... This time, they are already ashore. Katarina, and the two members you recruited before will join you. Outside the keep, you will have to fight 3 sets of pirates, who actually proved to be a bit of a challenge for me. Katarina's lighting rune makes things a bit easier, and you should get three shots... Perfect? After the third battle, a strange light drives away the pirates. Katarina will once again tell you not to enter the keep... But, you don't really have a choice. Head up to the roof, via the stairs outside Glen's room. On the roof, watch the events unfold. When you can control Hero again, you will find yourself in a psychedelic tunnel. Just, follow the tunnel to each consecutive light. At the last one, you will have to face... --Boss: Mysterious Shadow-- You can't use your runes here, but no matter. One hit and he's dead. With the shadow vanquished, Hero will wake up. Katarina will pass judgment on you, and you will be exiled. The two friends you didn't recruit earlier will give you their sympathies, then take you away. ----Exile Ship---- Items: Medicine x10, Steamed Bun x10 After a few more events, you will find yourself on the Exile Ship... Joined by your two friends from before (image my surprise to be exiled with Jewel and Paula). However, one will find another stow-away, Chiepoo. Chiepoo will sell you a few items, and more emergency supplies can be found in the cabin (ten each of medicine and steamed buns). Depart your little ship, and sail around in any direction. After two fights, you will see a merchant ship. ----Merchant Ship---- Items: Treasure Map After a few words, speak to ??? (the black haired guy), for another event. Go down below, and before resting, examine the table for a Treasure Map. Speak to Colton to rest, then save. When you leave the cabin, you will find that the crew of the ship... isn't exactly friendly to Gaien Knights... Even ex-knights and a merchant. --Boss: ??? and Colton-- You'd think Colton would at least be easy... But no... Even just one of them would be too much, even if you had time to use Hero's new rune... Needless to say, you will be decimated. Afterward though, you will mysteriously recover all of your HP, and be forced to fight Kooluk Soldiers instead. After 3 fights, you will board your ship, and speed away. ----Exile Ship---- Back on the ship, speak to everyone, then set sail again. After one random battle, a Water Dragon will appear. --Boss: Water Dragon-- Could be a tough one. But, 3 blasts from Hero's new Rune will knock it down more than a few pegs. Keep Hero healed though. If you don't have anyone with healing magic, you should at least have a stockpile of medicines by now. After the battle, more bad news... Tidal wave... ----Deserted Island---- Items: Necklace, Lucky Ring, Water Amulet, Guard Ring When you wake up, you will find yourself on a beach, with your friends nearby. Speak to each of them twice, to get them to rejoin you. Save, then, explore the island. Visit each of the areas, and be sure to get the Necklace in the chest, near the pond, on the hill. When you return to the beach after exploring everything, your friends will basically ask you if you want to try to escape, or remain here. If you insist on staying, you will. It's a bad ending, but worth it to see it once. Choose that you want to leave, and you will begin gathering materials. Basically, you can choose one of three tasks. Cutting wood requires you to go to the dense forest, and search three trees. The right ones will have a little sparkle, to tell you. Gathering rope requires you to pick up the three strands of rope, right there on the beach. And, coconuts are the three coconuts laying on the ground, in the area on the far side of the beach. Once you have finished your task, enter the cave, and traverse to the bottom. At the lake, you will find a mermaid (even though she has legs). The first day, you will spook her, and see will run off, leaving a Lucky Ring behind. The second day, she will be waiting for you. This time, she will leave you a Water Amulet, and run. The third day, she will stick around to talk. She will leave you a Guard Ring this time. After the mermaid encounters, head back to your camp, and rest. On the fourth day, you will repair the ship, but Chiepoo will not be around. Lilin will swim up, and tell you that Chiepoo is in trouble, and basically, ask that you kill a monster she hates. Climb the hill, and at the top you will find... --Boss: Boss Crab and Wild Crabs-- At first, the Boss Crab will just defend. You can't hurt him much, so take out the little ones, and save your magic. After a few turns, the battle will end. However, just long enough for Hero to use his rune, to weaken the Boss Crab. When the battle restarts, the Boss Crab will have more friends. Wipe them out with a area spell, or two, then just unleash a wave of Eternal Ordeals. The Boss Crab isn't really too dangerous, so this should prove to be an easy fight. Afterward, Hero will pass out, and you will once again enter that psychedelic tunnel. At the end is another... --Boss: Mysterious Shadow-- Same as the last one, a one hit wonder. After the tunnel, you will reawaken. After a little chat, you will all board newly repaired ship. ----World Map---- Lilin tells you that there is civilization to the south. It doesn't really matter though, cause after two battles, you will face... --Boss: Killer Ray and Killer Ray-- A decently challenging pair. As will many boss pairs, one heals. In this case, the brown one. Take him out first, not only because he can heal, but also, the two together can use a pretty hard-hitting combo attack. However, I'm starting to notice a pattern. Hero's Eternal Ordeal is great for bosses... Despite beating them, they will steal your oars... Luckily, Desmond, and Lady Flare will pick you up. ----Obel Royal Ship---- Items: Treasure Map After your current situation is explained, you can explore the ship. However, before you speak to Desmond, make sure you grab the Treasure Map, off the desk in the cabin. When you are done exploring, speak to Desmond, and you will arrive in Obel. ----Kingdom of Obel---- Items: Treasure Map, Lottery Ticket, Soap Recruits: Ornan In the first area, you can find a Treasure Map in a nearby barrel. In town are several shops. In Obel you can a lottery, a trading post, an inn, an equipment shop, a rune master, an armorer, and a smithery that can sharpen weapons to level 6. The woman near the lottery will give you a free ticket, and one of the two women near the armorer will give you some soap. When you are done exploring the town, head up, and into the castle. Speak to the guy out front, Lino, then head inside, and speak to Setsu. After a chat with the king, you will be told to visit the ruins. Also, Desmond will join you to take you to your new stronghold. Follow the path to the right of the castle, up the mountain path, and into the cave. Inside, you find your new saloon. Upstairs is Chadli, who does nothing for a while. Downstairs in Tov, who also has no role just yet. At the bar is Louise, who is your inn and party changer. After you get acquainted will everyone, head to your room, with is in the second floor hallway. Rest in your bed. After another story event, you will awaken the next morning. The next morning, find Desmond. He has moved from the Saloon, to outside the War Room. He will mention that you can now use the patrol ship. Head back to town, and speak to Ornan. With no requirement, he will join you. Make any preparations you want, then head to the partol ship at the harbor. First stop is the island on Mordo. It's not on your map yet, but is just a little northwest of Obel. ----Mordo---- Items: Treasure Map, Window Set 4 Not really necessary, but it was on the way. In the first area, you can find a Treasure Map in a stack of baskets, and the Window Set 4 in the chest near the Trading Post. Next stop is Nay, North of Mordo. If you sail from Mordo to Iluya, you should hit it. ----Nay---- Items: Wool Loincloth, Treasure Map x3, Old Book Volume 6 After getting off the boat, head down to the beach, where you can find a chest containing a Wool Loincloth. Then, head into town. The smithery in this town can sharpen your weapons to level 7. Also, there is a chest with a Treasure Map in one corner. And, another on a shelf in the Chief's house. Head up to the next area, and the inn. In one of the inn rooms is a chest, with... another Treasure Map. In the lobby, you can find Old Book Volume 6 next to the reception desk. Also, you should visit Nay-Kobold, the village on the other side of the Stonecutter's Field, east of the harbor. ----Nay-Kobold---- Items: Treasure Map x2, Lightning Rune, Old Book Volume 3 Recruits: Perrault On the way, you can find a Treasure Map, in a chest, behind a rock, on the south side of the Stonecutter's Field. Grab the chest near the appraiser for a Lightning Rune. Perrault can be recruited at the trading post, simply by speaking to him. In the second area, you can find Old Book Volume 3 in a chest in the residence (the house with Bartholomew inside). Finally, examine the tree near the bathhouse for another Treasure Map. When you are done, return to your ship, and head to Na-Nal. It's just East of Nay. ----Na-Nal---- Items: Treasure Map x3, Stone of Strength Recruits: Rita, Mitsuba, Reinhold First item of business is that chest on the other side of that little boat. Inside is another hairball, this one more manageable than the last. --Boss: Golden Hairball-- I mean, much more manageable. One Eternal Ordeal was enough for me. Your reward is the contents of the chest, a Treasure Map. In town, you can find Rita at the inn. Rita offers what is the most addictive mini game yet. Beat her at her own game (may take a few tries), and she will join you. There are also two more Treasure Maps to be found. One in the crates near the armorer, and the other on the shelves in the Rune Shop. In front of the Chief's house, you will find a girl in red, who will challenge you. --Duel: Mitsuba-- Yet another easy fight on this island. In my game, her first attack was a special, so I beat her in one round... After you win, she and Reinhold will join you. The final stop in this town in the Chief's house. Inside is a chest, containing a Stone of Strength. Will everything here wrapped up, return to your ship, and make your way back to Obel, and finally to the ruins, west of the palace. ----Ruins---- Items: Thunder Amulet, 5000p, Magic Hand, One Piece Dress, Window Set 2, Mega Medicine x4, Mushroom x3, Escape Talisman, Treasure Map The Ruins can be a bit tough. Normal encounters will put you up against Unicorns, and Jellymen. Unicorns can really lay out some damage, and Jellymen can inflict status effects like poison and sleep. Also, Jellymen will revive, if there are any remaining monsters at the end of the turn. Basically, you have to kill everything else, then kill all the Jellymen in the same turn. To make matters worse, there are two normal bosses, and one super boss (optional). It's not all bad though. The dungeon isn't really as complicated as it looks. In the first room, head down the stairs, to your left. Through the door is a chest with a Thunder Amulet. Back in the main room, there is a chest on the same level, containing 5000p. Climb back up the stairs to the top, bypass the first door (nothing there), and enter the last one. Turn right at the intersection, and grab the Magic Hand from the chest. Head back, and go straight to the other doorway. Continue on until you reach another intersection. In this case, there will be a chest near the right doorway, with a One Piece Dress. If you go straight, however, you will run into that optional boss, the Angel Hairball... This thing decimated me, so run if you open the chest. You aren't meant to beat it yet. Instead, take the doorway near the last chest. Continue on until you reach another room that looks like the first one. In here, climb the stairs, and enter the first door, the chest there contains Window Set 2. At the top of the stairs, if a save crystal. Save, then go through the doorway that you passed to save. Continue on until you reach the intersection. To the right is a chest, with a Mega Medicine. Back the other way is another intersection. The left path at that intersection takes you back to the save crystal. The other is the first boss. --Boss: Guard-- This thing has high defense, and a good bit of HP to boot... It would be best to save your magic, if possible... However, I burned all mine (and then some, using my mushrooms)... Fortunately, for a boss, his damage is mild. Not to say he's weak, but he can only do about 80 damage to one person, unless he does his area attack (and he will), which does 70 to each. If you burn all your magic too, don't worry to much. The last boss will still be beatable, just, even more challenging. After you win, continue on. Once you are outside again, you will come across a chest, with three Mushrooms, three Mega Medicine, and an Escape Talisman. Also, save, now. Continue on again, and you will meet Rikie, Rakgi's mother. She will explain the nature of your Rune to you. When she is done talking, examine the tree for another Treasure Map. Then, head back like you are going to leave, to trigger the other boss. --Boss: Guard-- He's back... and with hands this time... He's more or less the same as last time, only with more damage, about 125 to one person. He can also heal himself now... If you saved some magic, use it now. If not, use the mushrooms you just got. Just, watch Hero's HP. Remember, his rune drains 30 HP at level one. If you want to avoid a fatal hit, keep his HP not only above the Guard's damage, but also account for the rune (meaning, above about 160). That all being said, I again, burned all my magic in the first fight. It took a lot of medicine, steamed buns, and those mushrooms, but I managed a win. A win also nets you an Iron Hammer. After the fight, Rikie and Rakgi will join you. You are done now, so return to Obel. ----Kingdom of Obel---- Items: Shellfish There is now a woman at the castle who will give you a shellfish. Also, Noah is inside the castle, and, will not join you, but you can still play her card game. Save, and head back to the Patrol Ship. Before you get out to sea, your favorite finny friend pays you a visit. Lilin is being chased by merchants, so help her out. On the world map, sail towards the blue bubble on the map, to find the merchants. You will have to fight two sets of Captain's Staff (three in a group). However, they are only average, so should pose little problems. After the fight Lilin will join you. However, a would-be hero makes things a bit complicated. ----Pirate Dario---- Major Battle: Pirate Dario vs. Hero's Ship You have some new pals now, and one of them is perfect for this fight. Set Tov on your cannon, and Dario can't touch you. It will take a few shots, but you should be able to sink Dario without any problem. After the fight, and a few events, return to your stronghold, and speak to Desmond. Desmond will report that Lino wants you to find Oleg, and bring him to your side. Oleg is located on the island of Nay. So, make any necessary preparations, and board your ship. ----Nay---- Head up to the area with the inn, and on the hill, you will find Oleg. Speaking to him will trigger an event, and he will request that you all rest, and he will explain more in the morning. Enter the inn, and sign in. Once in your room, try to leave, to trigger another event, afterward, you have no choice but to sleep. In the morning, return to the camera. After watching the recording, Oleg will join you, and recommend seeing Lino. When you are done, return to your ship, and return to Obel. ----Kingdom of Obel---- Recruits: Cedric, Adrienne When you return, rest at the inn, to trigger an event. Speak to the woman who yelled at the boy, then chase him to your stronghold. Speak to Louise, and Cedric will join you. Then, return to the castle, and speak to Lino. After the conversation, make your way back to your stronghold. On the way, you will be attacked. --Boss: Akaghi and Mizuki-- This fight should be easy for one. One big magic attack will knock them both out. After the fight, return to Lino. After talking to the king, the trio will join you. Leave the palace, and Flare will apologize to you. Return to your stronghold again, and Obel will be attacked. After watching the fight some, you can choose to use your Rune. Do so, then your friends will rush out, and you will board a ship, and join the battle. ----Defending Obel---- Major Battle: 3rd Kooluk Fleet vs. Obel Warship This battle pits Lino and Hero against two Kooluk ships. The Kooluk ships will use fire and wind shells, and wind and earth shells. Thus, putting one fire and one wind person on the cannons will make this fight easy. It was Tov and Paula for me. However, Lino's fire shells matched the fire and wind ship perfectly, leaving only the wind and earth ship for Hero, and only required Paula's wind shells. All in all, another easy fight, with a bit of planning. After the battle, Hero will once again pass out, and enter the psychedelic world. At the end of this tunnel, is someone we know. --Boss: Brandeau's Shadow-- Fortunately, he is weaker this time. Again, no rune usage allowed, but it's not needed, as he will fall in one hit. When you wake up, you will be back in your bed. Head to the Saloon, and watch the event with your crew. Afterward, head down the mountain path toward the town... and watch the enemy fleet roll in. Turn right back around, and enter your war room. Lino will request that you gather people in town, and Flare offers to join you. Head to the town, and basically, speak to everyone. In addition to Yu and Adrienne, several townspeople will board your ship. Also, if you missed Cedric or Ornan, you can get them now, and should. After speaking to everyone, Flare will suggest that you return. However, at the entrance of the cave, she will leave you. Return to the war room, and break the news to Lino. Setsu to will return to town, then sit back and watch your escape. After everything plays out, you will find yourself on the deck of your new ship. Try to enter one of the doors, and Kika's ship will pull up beside you. She will suggest that you follow her, and will little choice, you agree. However, it isn't urgent, and you have an enormous ship to explore. Several new people have joined you, at the request of Lino, so become acquainted with them. Also, several new shops and other places of interest are now open. After becoming familiar with your new ship, embark, open your chart, and head towards the next stop, Nay. ----Various---- Items: Message Bottle, Glowing Hand Mirror, Ocean Rune Piece, Treasure Map x4, Chinchilla Stand, Simple Wallpaper, Old Book Volume 7, Rage Orb Recruits: Ban, Bartholomew, Viki, Ugetsu, Manu, Jeane, Shiramine, Moa, Noa, Taisuke, Lilen, Lilan, Nately, Izak, Kate, Rene Lots to do right now... To make things easier, your first stop should be Nay; specifically, Nay-Kobold. If you haven't yet, first read the second edition of the news paper. The second article, in particular. When you arrive at Nay, search the beach for a bottle. Then, make your way to Nay-Kobold from Nay, and on the suspension bridge, you will meet Viki... Who will promptly disappear. Enter Nay-Kobold and speak to Bang, at the lottery. He will join you. Then, head to the second area, and enter the residence. The man inside is Bartholomew, the same one mentioned in the paper. Speak to him, and he will join you. Return to the first area of Nay-Kobold, and buy a flower seed from the trading post. Then, head back towards the harbor. Past the bridge, you will see Viki again. This time, you can speak to her, and recruit her. For those who may not have placed the previous three Suikodens, Viki is your favorite crew member. Her power is to send you to almost any place you have been before. She also gives you the Glowing Hand Mirror, which will return you to your stronghold, from almost anywhere (even from dungeons in this game). With your new found transportation methods in hand, progress to your next stop, Na-Nal. As soon as you land, you should see Ugetsu by the trading post. Speak to him, and he will join. Then, enter the town. At the inn, in the same place Rita was, you will find Manu. Manu is more than willing to equip your ship with an elevator, so recruit him. Then, stop by the rune master. If you spoke to the two guys in town about the person staying at the rune masters, you will be able to ask to see her. Jeane is more than willing to join you also. Before you leave Na-Nal though, head to the town square, where you fought Mitsuba before. A new foe will be found here. Maxine. --Boss: Maxine-- She is not an easy fight. She loves her wind rune, and will even put all your people to sleep. Fortunately, she is tough, but not unbeatable. If you have a good party, just give her everything you can. If not... Try to keep Hero alive, and abuse that Rune of Punishment. Your reward for beating her? Nothing... Seriously... At least not yet. That's for this village, but before moving onto the next, we have some things to do in your stronghold. First is, speak to Ugetsu on the rear deck. The door is on the second floor, near Viki. Speaking to him will trigger an event, where Hero will fish up a whopper... And, a new member. Shiramine. Then, enter your room, rest, and try to leave. Tov will mention that something is going on in the forbidden room. The room in on the fifth deck, across from Reinhold's room. Try to enter, and you will meet Moa... A bit weird, but a valuable member. Repeat the process, starting from leaving your room. Tov will mention the room again. Return to meet Noa... These two will grow you mushrooms and mint, respectively. You have to choose the environment, and wait a bit between steps, but a good harvest of either means more magic replenishing items for you. With things settled here, set sail. Not for an island this time, but for a place between islands. Find a spot between Nay and Na-Nal, set anchor, and return to Shiramine. Speak to him, and ask to cast the net. Then, set sail again, this time for the Deserted Island. The Deserted Island is about in the center of the map. If you sail from Nay toward Middleport, you should find it. Anyway, land on the island, and enter the cave. Traverse down to the bottom, and you will find Taisuke... skinny-dipping. Speak to him, and he will ask you to leave, then remember he left his clothes outside. Exit the cave, and you will find the clothes nearby. Return them to him, then exit the cave again, so he can dress. Make you way back down to the bottom, and he will join you... Not done yet though. Leave the cave one more time, then back town to the lake. This time, you will find Lilen. If you have Lilin, she will join you. Head back to the ship, and talk to Shiramine once more. It should have been enough time now for a nice catch. If you are lucky, you will have caught Lilan too. She will join you, to be with her sister, Lilin. If you don't find her, try again. You will eventually, as long as you are casting in the right spot. Next, head toward your next destination, Iluya. Make sure you add Mizuki to your party before you land. In the first area, you will find two chests. One contains a Treasure Map and Ocean Rune Piece, and the other contains a Chinchilla Stand. In the Kooluk base, you can find the Simple Wallpaper and a Treasure map in some crates, and another treasure map in the chest inside. The chest outside contains another Angel Hairball... Which you probably still aren't strong enough to kill. In the first town area, you will find Nately, who will be glad to join you. Also, you can skip the chest in this area too, as it's yet another Angel Hairball. In the second town area, you will find Izak, who will join you for those flower seeds I told you to buy back in Nay-Kobold. You can find Kate on the outside ring, and she will join you, if you brought Mizuki, like I suggested. Also on the outside ring, you can find one more chest, containing Old Book Volume 7. That's all for this island. Return to your ship, and head for Donut Island. It's a little island, shaped like a ring. It's east of Obel, about half way between Obel and the edge of the map. If you find the island that looks like an arrow, you went too far east, and a bit too north. On Donut Island, you will find Rene, who will give you a new Treasure Map, and join you. Return to your ship, and look for her in the library, at the end of the fourth deck. She will teach you about treasure hunting. Return to Donut island to finish the lecture. When you land, she will explain about her divining rods. Move around until you pick up a signal, then move in the direction they point. When the two rods cross, you found the spot to dig. Your reward for this first map? A nice Rage Orb. It wouldn't be a bad idea to slap that on Hero right away. You can find other treasures here, but that will be covered in a later section. However, that's all for now. Head to Nest of Pirates to resume the story. ----Nest of Pirates---- Items: Pirate Bracers, Treasure Map, Ocean Rune Piece Recruits: Phil, Lilon, Liloon The smithery here can sharpen your weapons to level 9. Also, before entering the cave, grab the chest, hidden on that narrow path. Speak to the guy here too, to hear about his mermaid sighting. Then, enter the cave, and talk to Kika. After your chat, she, and her friends will join you. Before you leave though speak to Phil. He will join you if you have enough people (40 or more). Then, enter Kika's room, and get the Treasure Map and Ocean Rune Piece from the chest. This rune piece is used to power up your ship. Take it to Tov to find more. When done, board your ship. Re-enter Nest of Pirates to continue. When you land, you will be told that Katarina has been found, and is being treated in Kika's room. Then, enter Kika's room, to see Katarina. After all the events play out, return to your ship... Just in time to be confronted by Snowe. ----Former Friends---- Major Battle: Snowe's Army vs. Hero's Army One enemy ship uses earth and lighting shells, while the other uses fire and wind. Set a fire and earth person on each ship, and you should be fine, with one other precaution. Be careful while attacking. You can hit both enemy ships with one shot, but both get to counter attack. Meaning, you will get hit at least once, if attacking both. Try to position yourself to concentrate on one ship at a time. Snowe's fleet has a lot of health, so it may take some time. But, if you are careful, you should be fine. After the fight, chase Snowe back to Razril. Watch events play out, and choose to set Snowe free. Your next destination is Hermitage Island, but there are two more people you can now get... Maybe not people, but close. Return to Nest of Pirates, and if you spoke to the man before about the mermaid, Lilon will join you. This addition fulfills the requirements for the fifth and final mermaid, Liloon. She can be found at the Iluya harbor, after gathering the other four. She is on the little lowered section, to the right. With mermaid five on board, it's time to head to Hermitage Island. It's marked on your map, right next to Nest of Pirates. ----Hermitage Island---- Items: Mega Medicine x3, Skunk Orb, Treasure Map x2, Copper Hammer, Earth Orb Sigurd, Hervey, and Dario have to join you for this. When you land, they will kick out anyone else who was in your party. Simply, keep following the path until you reach Elenor's house. Watch the events unfold, and Elenor will ask you to get something for her, from the cave behind her house. Out back, you will find a chest, containing three Mega Medicine, and a Skunk Orb. Continue on the path, until you reach the cave. You will be greeted by... --Boss: Horned Behemoth-- A bit tough cause you are alone, but then again, weaker than a normal boss, because you have to fight it alone. It's damage isn't to bad, so just blast it with your rune a few times. It would be great if you have that Rage Rune, but Eternal Ordeal will do the job too. About three to four big attacks will do him in. And, those three mega medicine will fix you right up, if you take too much damage. After the fight, enter the cave, and examine the shelf for the items. Examine it again, for a Treasure Map. Return to the house, and speak to Agnes. Elenor will join you, and when you exit the house, Agnes will follow. Before you leave though, be sure to grab the two chests, containing a Copper Hammer, and Treasure Map. There is also an Earth Orb in the well. With all that settled, return to the ship, rest, and save. After you save, enter the War Room. Elenor will explain that there can only be one leader, and that Hero will have to fight Lino for that title. Accept the agreement. --Duel: Lino En Kuldes-- Not too tough. He likes to defend a lot, but watch what he says and you will do fine. Afterward, Lino will hand over his Golden Seal, and his throne, for now. Hero is officially the king of Obel now. You also get to name your ship and army now. In my game, the choices were Chicken or Dauntless for the Ship, and Rush or Hero(your hero's name) for the army. I hear Cheese is another option, so I'm going to stick with Dauntless and Rush as my official names. But, with the Golden Seal in hand, more allies become available to you. ----Various---- Recruits: Jango, Brec, Aldo, Gau, Katarina, Lo Fong, Lo Hak, Lo Seng, Igor, Nalkul, Champo First stop... your room. Two pirates stuck into your room to ask if they can join you. Not really given much choice, Jango and Brec join. Next, land back on Hermitage Island. Behind Elenor's house, on the path to the cave, you will meet Aldo, who will also join you. You can find another member here, Gau. He's a bit trickier though. Get into a bunch of fights in the first areas, and eventually, you will encounter him. --Boss: Gau and Demon Wolves-- Take out the wolves first, then focus on Gau. He's pretty hard hitting, but if you have a good party, shouldn't be fatal. High level runes are great here. And, if you have someone with an Earth Rune, the extra defense would be a plus. After beating Gau, he will join you. Return to your ship, and head for Nest of Pirates. Here, Katarina will be awake, and willing to join you. Next, save, rest, and head for Mordo Island. Use the hot springs, and three new faces will try to scam money out of you. When you won't pay, they try force. --Boss: Lo Fong, Lo Hak, and Lo Seng-- Standard group tactics apply. Try to knock one out at a time. The order I listed them is a good order for that too. Blast the trio with your best spells, and you should be fine. It may take a little while, but not the hardest fight. After you win, they will join you. Exit the island and re-enter, to find Igor standing outside the hot springs. Talk to him, and he will join also. Next, head over to Nay, with Chiepoo in your party. When you land, he will mention wanting to see the trading post. Head over to Nay-Kobold, and check it out. On the way, in the middle of the Stonecutter's Field, you will find Maxine again... This time, she got stronger. --Boss: Maxine-- She still loves her Wind Rune, but this time, she likes the higher end spells. Sadly, my best strategy for this fight is to outlast her magic. She will cast a few big spells early on, then more or less attack, with a few small spells mixed in. If you can survive the big ones, her damage output goes way down. However, you should still expect a long fight. See can take all of Hero's attack spells, if you are using the Rage Rune, and then some. Taking your best damage dealers, with a decent magic defense is a good idea. A healer too. However, even with a less than desirable team, you should be able to beat her after she uses up her big spells, it will just take what feels like forever. After you beat Maxine, she will leave again. Head to the Nay-Kobold trading post, then back towards the ship. While crossing the bridge back to the ship, Hero will be pick pocketed. Return to Nay-Kobold, and corner the thieves next to the warehouse. After they lose the Golden Seal, they will join you, then try to get it back. You have to play Champo's Cat and Mouse mini game to get it back. But, don't worry, it's easy. With your two new allies, return to your ship. Enter the War Room, and Elenor will recommend paying Middleport a visit. Make a good party, with lots of damage. You will want to leave close range attackers out though. Only long range attacks and magicians will help here. Try to include Sigurd, but if he's under leveled, you can add him later. When you have a good party, save, and sail over to Middleport. Before you can dock though... --Boss: Moving Island and Tentacles-- You can't attack with close range weapons here. So, you will have to rely on magic, mostly, though long range attacks do work. Take out the Tentacles as soon as you can, or they will get annoying. After that, give the Moving Island everything you have. Not only can it take a lot of damage, but it can also attack everyone in your group. However, it's damage output is not really crushing, so the battle is move of an endurance test than anything. ----Middleport---- Items: Interior Design Book, Rose Crest Recruits: Reinbach, Micky, Keen, Helga, Deborah, Oskar, Gareth, Etienne, Charlemagne Beat the Moving Island, and you will land at Middleport, and be greeted by Micky and Reinbach. Reinbach will set up an appointment for you with his father, so head to the top of the town, and enter the Lord's Mansion. After an unproductive meeting, return to your ship. Stop by, and speak to the ladies in front of the inn, and receive the Interior Design Book. Also, stop by the trading post, and speak to Keen with Sigurd in your party. He will not join you just now, but this is the first step. When you reach your ship, Reinbach and Micky will offer to join you, if you prove your friendship. You have to find Gareth in Nay. Head other to Nay really quick, and check for Gareth in the inn rooms. He will give you the Rose Crest, to give to Reinbach. Also, check the other rooms for a person who will tell you about a woman wrecking the Middleport inn. Before you leave, stop by the chief's house, and ask him to join Nay to your cause. He won't, but says that he wants you to meet some people, once they recover. Return to your ship, and abandon Sigurd, or add him if you didn't bring him to Keen the first time. Return the Rose Crest to Reinbach, and he and Micky will join you. Speak to Keen again and he will offer to join you for 10000p. Accept, and you will have a new member. Next, head to the inn, and speak to the woman outside the inn, Helga. Insist that she should join you, and Charlemagne will show up to help her. Helga will join you, and Charlemagne will ask you to return a bit later, so he can finish his business. Inside the inn, speak to Deborah, who will join you. Oskar will be upset, but he will join you too (though it won't tell you). Return to your ship, and add Reinbach to your party. Then, take him to see Gareth in Nay. With Reinbach in your party, Gareth will join you. Then, return to Middleport, with Reinbach, still in your party. In front of the Lord's Mansion, you will find Etienne. She will join you if you have Reinbach in your party. Finally, return to Charlemagne. If he will not join you, continue to exit and re-enter Middleport until he does. When he finally does, return to your ship. Back on board your ship, pick a strong character. I favor a strong physical attacker like Bartholomew. Take this character and Lino, and make sure they are well equipped, and their weapons are pretty sharp. Stock up on medicines if you are a bit low. Then, rest, and save. When your preparations are complete, head to your War Room. When you enter, if you have 70 or more characters, an event will begin, where a ship smacks into yours. Hero and Lino go to investigate, and Lino insists on only bringing two other people (one combatant, and one support). Pick the person you equipped a minute ago, and enter the ship. ----Fog Ship---- Items: Pirate King Vest Recruits: Ted Despite being a ship, it's really just a straight line. However, your enemies are Dead Blades, who will come back, unless everything is killed. Also, you will come across two bosses, before the final boss. --Boss: Prophet and Dead Blades-- Save your magic if you can. Also, take out the Prophet first. Unless this all caught you off guard, you should be alright. I didn't sharpen any weapons beyond about 6, and used leftover armor, and did alright, so it's not impossible. --Boss: Prophets and Dead Blades-- Two of each this time. Again, save your magic if you can. Take out both Prophets before the Dead Blades, and you will win. --Boss: Fog Ship Guide-- Bad news, he's tough, and you are low on magic, and recovery items. Good news, Ted's joining you. Bad news, he doesn't have his Soul Eater. Good news, he has a Water Rune, and a LOT of magic. Ted will help immensely as a healer, but can also do about 100 damage will his bow. The Fog Ship Guide also likes to use a nasty attack where he drains about 200 damage from you, and heals himself. However, he also has an attack that can cause instant death, but with a fairly low probability. Patience, planning, and luck are the keys to this battle. Unless you were completely unprepared, you should do fine. After the fight, Ted regains his rune. Grab the chest, containing the Pirate King Armor, and return to your ship. Back on board, Ted will join you. Suikoden 1 fan already know, but Ted's Rune, the Soul Eater is one monstrous True Rune. For new players, just, know you just got a nice new addition to your crew. With your recruitment drive over, it's time to get back to fighting Kooluk. Your next stop is Na-Nal. ----Na-Nal---- Items: Old Book Volume 4 Recruits: Selma, Eugene When you land, you will find several Kooluk soldiers on shore. Pound them, and you will be stopped by Axel, son of the island chief. After a chat, you will wind up in jail. Make sure you grab the Old Book Volume 4 in the chest, then speak to everyone. The chief will free you if you steal something for him. Head over to the Great Elvan tree, and you will find it in the first room. Grab the water, and return it to the chief. Head back down to the beach, and you will be stopped by Selma. She will lead you back to the Elvan tree, and into jail. After some more explanations, speak to everyone, and Selma will free you. Return to the town, and you will find everyone under attack. --Boss: Elite Soldiers-- You will first have to fight a group of two Elite Soldiers, followed by a group of three, and finally, another group of three. They are fairly easy, just, try not to spend all your magic on the first batch. After the last fight, the chief will acknowledge the Rush, and send his son along with you as a representative. After you have the backing of Na-Nal, you can find Selma near the Trading Post. She has been cast out of the Elf village, but is willing to fight alongside you. And, you owe her, so let her join. You can also now find Eugene outside the inn. You may need to leave, and reenter to get him to show up. Also, enter on the ship. He doesn't seem to appear if you teleport in. Speak to his mother, and she will force him on you. Your next stop is right next door, on Nay island. ----Nay---- Recruits: Millay If you did everything earlier, all you have to do is speak to the chief, and Kevin and Pam will join you. If not, just speak to him, leave, and repeat, until they join. After they join, return to your ship. Put Reinbach in your party, and head over to Middleport. A new man will have shown up, near the Trading Post. Speak to him, and hear about Reinbach's fiancé. Afterward, you can find her on the beach on Na-Nal. Return to Na-Nal, with Reinbach still, and come to her rescue. The two scoundrels you have to fight are easy. After the fight, invite her to join, and she will. When you are done, make any preparations you need too, and head to your War Room. Elenor will determine that it's time to retake Razril. Sail over, and prepare for a fight. ----Regaining Razril---- Major Battle: Mixed Kooluk Fleet vs. The Rush Your enemies use Lightning and Earth, Fire and Wind, and Wind and Earth shell. I'll tell you know, you don't need to worry about the Wind and Earth ship. Set the Grishend for damage. I used Jeane and Lo Fong. I set the Dauntless with Pablo, Paula, and Kate. I never need anyone but Jeane and Pablo though. Jeane is more than a match for the first ship, and the Grishend's mobility/range make it an easy fight. The Wind and Earth ship will change sides, to your side, and attack Helmut's ship. Helmut will only attack the Dauntless, if you get it close enough, and you should. Attack and defend with Pablo, and he can't hurt you. The Razril ship will just continue to attack, but is weak to Helmut, so you might lose it, which is okay. The Grishend can easily get behind Helmut, if he doesn't lose first, and blast him away with Jeane's high damage. All in all, another easy fight with planning. ----Razril---- Items: Window Set 9, Silver Hammer, Hero Shield, Treasure Map, Guardian Bracer Recruits: Basil, Maxine, Konrad, Funghi, Ameria, Gretchen, Fredrika, Karl After the fight, you can ask Helmut to join, and he will. When you land, the two friends you left behind will rejoin you. Before you head to the Training Hall, head into town. A man on main street will give you the Window Set 9. In front of the inn, you can find Basil, who will now join you. Inside the inn, you will find Maxine, if you beat her the two times before. She will also join you, without a fight this time. Konrad will join you, if Katarina is in your party. If she isn't, you can come back. When you are done, head to the Training Hall. After a rousing speech, exit the hall, and you will be confronted by Vingerhut, and two weak Gaien Soldiers... Embarrass them, then watch things play out. When you can control Hero again, it will be afternoon (orange sky). This is a key time for a few items. If you want them, you HAVE to get the three chests in the Knights Hall now. The first, the Silver Hammer, is in a chest in front of the Audience Chamber door. The second, the Hero shield, is in a chest in the Training Hall. The final, is on the roof, where you got your rune. It contains a Treasure Map and Guardian Bracer. As for recruits, you can now recruit Funghi in the kitchen, and also a man and his daughter, in the Training Hall. If you go to the dock your ship is at, you will get to watch an event with Katarina. When you are done in town, rest, at either the inn, of your room in the hall. The next morning, a few more recruits become available. Ameria can be found on the roof of the keep. Gretchen is in front of the Armor shop. Fredrika is in the Equipment shop. Also, you can find Karl in the Back Street. When you have everything you need in Razril, return to your ship... Only to encounter a long lost friend. ----Battle Once More---- Major Battle: Pirate Snowe vs. The Rush Snowe only has Fire shells... I thought it was a trick for something, but no. Really, all you need is someone with Water shells, and you can't lose. Take your pick, anyone will work. I used Katarina. After the pathetic fight, set Snowe free once more. Then, return to recruiting. ----Various---- Items: Ocean Rune Piece, Treasure Map, Great Earth Armor, Sliding Door, Ivory Robe, Canvas 2 Recruits: Jeremy, Warlock, Pecola, Tanya On board your ship, put Mitsuba in your party, and Katarina if you didn't get Konrad earlier. Also, speak to Pablo in the Rune Cannon room. The end of the fifth floor, if you haven't been there before. Grab Konrad in the Razril inn, if you didn't earlier. Then, head over to Na-Nal, and the square where you recruited Mitsuba. Jeremy can now be found here, and will join you if you have Mitsuba in your party. Return to your ship, and make a pretty strong party, then return to Middleport. At the end of the Back Street, you will find an empty house, with a treasure chest in the middle of the room. Examine it, and pick the 24 potch option. This will take you to a small dungeon. In the first room, you can find a chest containing an Ocean Rune Piece and a Treasure Map. Continue on to the next room. At the intersection, take a right, then a left. The chest here contains a Great Earth Armor. Return to the first intersection, and take the other path. take the leftmost path at the next intersection, and you will find a Sliding Door. Back to the previous intersection, take the right path, into the next area. In the second area, go straight, then right at the second intersection. This chest will net you an Ivory Robe. A left at the first intersection takes you to the third area. Staying all the way to the left in the third area will take you to a chest containing the Canvas 2. The first right will take you to the boss. --Boss: Land Dragon-- Not terribly tough. A good party should have little trouble. He does however, have an attack that can inflict sleep, but otherwise, a slightly long fight if unprepared, or easy if you are. Afterward, proceed forward to meet Warlock, your newest member. With your new friend, reluctantly, on board, return to your ship. Re-enter Middleport from your ship, and return to Warlock's house. Inside now, you will find Pecola. If you have her book (from the woman near the inn), she will also join you. Your final destination for now if Nest of Pirates. Outside, you will find Tanya, who is looking for Elenor, who is on your ship. So, she will join also. If you have no other matters to which you want to attend, enter the cave on Nest of Pirates. Inside, you will begin planning your attack to free Obel. The hardest part here is planning your strategy, without seeing the field. However, this fight should be easy. Set Maxine on the cannon on the Grishend, and Jeane on the Gaien Ship. For a captain for the Gaien ship, I personally like Jango. Put a strong person on the cannons on the Dauntless, like Warlock, then spread out a few others, to cover weaknesses. ----For Obel's Freedom---- Major Battle: 2nd Kooluk Fleet vs. The Rush Items: Pirate King Bracer You are up against a ship with Wind and Earth, and Lightning and Water. Also, the Grishend, and if you chose to, the Gaien ship will attack from the side. Use the Dauntless as a lure for the enemy, and blow them away with your two other ships. Because of Elenor's plan, this is an easy battle, despite not being able to plan better. After the fight, choose to wait. Speak to the crew member behind Colton for a Pirate King Bracer. Then, speak to Elenor to resume. ----Mysterious Fleet---- Major Battle: Governor's Fleet Vs. The Rush Simple battle. The ships don't move, or attack. You've probably already guessed, but you will know why in a few seconds. A trap... You have no choice but to use the Rune... Which, of course, lands you right back in that psychedelic tunnel. This time, with a familiar friend. --Boss: Glen's Shadow-- Same as all the others. One hit, no rune usage. Afterwards, your rune will be usable up to level 4. Enter Obel, and proceed to recruit your final members. Take Either Cedric or Yu as support. Eventually, you will need to use the other. ----Obel---- Items: Golden Hammer Recruits: Wendel, Nabokov, Carrie, Gunter, Trishtan, Gary, Ema, Noah, Rachel, Travis, Snowe On the dock, you will find Wendel, who much to Nico's dismay, will join. In the town, you can recruit the appraiser, Nabokov. Up in the stairs, you will find Carrie, Yu's assistant. She will join if you bring Yu. Gunter is also nearby, and will finally join you. Trishtan, in front of the inn, will join you, if Yu is with you. Gary and Ema are still in front of the palace, and will now join you. Noah is inside, and hiding behind the throne. You will have to speak to her a few times to get her to join. If you take Cedric to the cave your base used to be, you will find Rachel. She will join you if you bring Cedric, and pay his tab. The last star on the island is Travis. He is hiding where he won't be bothered. Before looking for him, make sure you have a decent party, and an Escape Talisman. He can be found in the last area of the Ruins, where you fought the Guard a second time. Be careful though, the enemies got stronger. Also, this is a good time to kill the Angel Hairball, if you have a good party. --Boss: Angel Hairball-- It can still kill one person in one hit, with it's Thunder Rune, but you should be able to survive it's normal attacks now. Probably the best way to win is to use a magic combo. For example, the Rage rune and a Lightning Rune can combine for Flame Array, 2000 damage. This can just about take out the Angel Hairball. I said earlier, that I gave a Rage Rune to Hero. Jeane's Lighting Rune works fine, and a Judgment from Ted's Soul Eater is more than enough to finish it off. This is the combo I used for all four of my Angel Hairball fights. It's good to finish it off as fast as possible, because a long fight makes it harder to win. At the end of the Ruins, you will notice the Guard is back. You can walk around him though. Near the tree, you will find Trishtan. He will ask you if you have an Escape Talisman. Then, he will ask you to prove it's real (you get the idea?). Use it to prove it, and you will end up outside... Make your way back, and speak to him again. He will now join you. This should be 107 if you have been getting them as I listed them. If it is for you, you are due for a reward. Head over to Mordo island, and speak to the man that normally offers your trading advice. He will mention that he saw a man drifting in the ocean. Board your boat, and head west. A little ways, and you will find Snowe. Offer one last time to recruit him, and he will finally rejoin you. The 108 Stars of Destiny have now gathered on your ship. Congrats. But, there is more to come. ----Various---- Items: Silk Shoes, 10000p, Silver Bracers, Mixed Herbs, Diamond x5, Prosperity Orb, Treasure Map, Guardian Garb, Hero's Armor Now is the time for gathering up loose ends, and preparing for the final battle. First, I'd suggest making your main party the team you want to tackle the final boss with. Get them a few more levels and the best gear you can find. Also, make your first ship party the same way. A well-balanced party, with good gear. Don't worry too much about runes. You could equip someone with the Champion Rune, if you have one, but otherwise, take off any that are good (like the Rage, Slash, Fury, Prosperity, etc.). Basically, make time to do the things you want to still. Fishing, creating armor, bathing scenes, Treasure Maps, anything. Some points I missed earlier in my guide are Mountain Island, and Limestone Shelf Island. Mountain Island is north of Razril. In addition to being a hot spot for Treasure Maps, you can also find a few chests. Including Silk Shoes, 10000p, Silver Bracers, and Mixed Herbs. At the very top, you will find a chest with a Golden Hairball. At this point, it should be very easy. Your reward will be five Diamonds and a Prosperity Orb. Limestone Shelf Island is South of Razril, and is the home of one lone chest, containing a Treasure Map. Also, this would be a good time to get those last Angel Hairballs, in Iluya. The first, at the base, guards a Guardian Garb. The latter, a Hero's Armor. When you are done playing around, and have your two parties geared up, it's time to make a checklist. If anyone is wearing any armor that you want to keep, or has a rune you want, de-equip them now. The armor on your two parties is fine, as is any rare armor (like the Hero, Pirate King, etc.). Stock up on equipment like Medicine, Jizos, etc. Also, buy any Rune Orbs you think you might like to have in New Game+, and the same with armor. Finally, sharpen your weapons one last time. When you are sure you are done, head to the deck. ----Dauntless---- Items: Wooden Amulet After watching the events on the deck, head to your War Room. Elenor will announce that it is time to attack Kooluk. She will also ask you to select your Detachment party. This should be your first ship party, if you prepared them. For support, Yu is invaluable. You might want him for your main party, but I suggest him more, for this one. After the meeting, rest in your room. The next day, speak to Elenor again in the War Room, and select to proceed with the plans. That night, speak to the people on board, if you like. Rita, Rene, and Noah will give you a Wooden Amulet. Otherwise, many other characters just have small scenes. When done spying on your friends, return to your room again, and sleep. If you collected all 108 Stars of Destiny, you will be visited by Leknaat, who will offer some insight into your future. The next morning, head to the deck to begin the invasion. Elenor and the Detachment party will land Below Fort El-Eal. Make your way to the top of the cliff, and the final major battle will begin. ----Final Engagement---- Major Battle: 1st Kooluk Fleet vs. The Rush You outnumber the enemy here. I would suggest Jango and Brec as the captains of your third and fourth ships. Other than that, just try to match the enemy's shells. If you made it this far, you should know the drill by now. Concentrate on one ship at a time, and you will overwhelm them in no time. After the fight, you return to control the Detachment party. ----El-Eal---- Items: Mega Medicine, Hero's Helmet, Cape of Darkness, Chaos Shield, Goddess Robe, Mixed Herbs x2, Mega Medicine, Fortune Orb, Magic Canceller In front of the fort is a chest with a Mega Medicine. Grab it, then enter. If you are unsure of your parties abilities, head straight for the top. Otherwise, it will make things easier on your main party to grab things while you can. From the first floor, head downstairs, into the dungeon. Near the end, you will find a chest containing the Hero's Helm. Also, you can loot a Cape of Darkness from the corpse of the Governor. Return to the first floor, and got up a flight of stairs. On this floor, you can find a chest with an Angel Hairball. You can get him later with the main party, if you can't beat him now. If you do manage against him, your reward will be a Chaos Shield. On the next floor, you can find another chest, near the meeting room. This one contains a Goddess Robe. One more floor up, and you will find the door to Cray's room. Outside is a chest, containing a Mixed Herbs, Mega Medicine, and Fortune Orb. Heal up, and use the Mixed Herbs to restore magic, if you used it all up on the Angel Hairball. Enter the door, and you will have to finally face Graham Cray. --Boss: Graham Cray-- Surprisingly easy. He can attack everyone for 100 damage, but that's about the worst of it. He also can put up a shield that can half all damage. It's good to wait on big spells until it's down, but, it's going to be up more often than not. Just, continue to attack, and stay healed. It may take some time, but he will eventually show signs of fatigue. At that point, just unleash everything you have left. After the fight, watch events play out. Afterward, you will gain control over Hero's party. With Hero's party, just make your way back up to the top, where the other party fought Cray. In the side room, you will find the key to the stairs on the desk. Return to the second floor, and use the key to unlock the door. The stairs, are long... really long. Basically, the end is on the top of the third flight. Climb ALL the way to the top. There is nothing going on until then. Grab the chest in front of the door for another Mixed Herbs, then, heal up, and prepare for the final boss. Open the door, and... --Final Boss: Giant Tree and Seeds of Light-- First, the seeds. They will regenerate if you kill them, but, it will keep them out of your hair for a while. I would suggest using group spells, especially at first. Anything that can't attack everything, should be directed at the Giant Tree. If you took the time to prepare your party however, this should be an easy fight. I took Snowe, gave him a Fury and Double-Strike Rune, and abused the True Friendship Combo attack, for 2000 damage a turn. On top of that, Jeane and Ted's high magic damage made short work of the Giant Tree. If you have a bit harder of a time, just, try to stick it out, and use all the tools available to you. Magic is normally the highest damage, but with persistence, even a weakened party can win. It just might take you a few dozen Jizos. After the fight, the fort will begin to collapse. Make your way back to the dock. Before speaking to Rakgi, take off any equipment you want to keep in New Game+. Speak to Rakgi, board your ship, and watch things play out. Before the very end though, you have one more task. One more loose end. --Duel: Troy-- Troy likes to use his special attack. But, unless you neglected Hero's weapon and fought with him dead most every fight, he should be more than a match for Troy. After the fight, enjoy the ending. Make sure to save afterward, as you can load your clear data to begin New Game+. So what's new in New Game+? * You can skip scenes with the triangle button. * You keep all your Potch and most armor and items that where not equipped (except for some rares like the Glowing Hand Mirror, Pirate King Armor, Treasure Maps, Old Books, Sound Sets, the Champion Rune, etc.) * You can change your on screen character. * Etienne's music list is complete. * You start with a fully explored map. * You keep your selected Window setting. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------Section 4: Character Recruitment--------------------------(su_chre)------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This section is pretty much for people who want to find things on their own, but are worried about missing someone. Like, when I collect all the stars in my new game. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------Section 6: Your Stronghold--------------------------------(su_stro)------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All about your base. Extra Large/Normal reward. Window Set 8 - Unknown. Where: Unknown. Window Set 9 - Brown background with a rose stem border. Where: Man on Main Street in Razril, after liberation. ----Building a Better Bath---- Recruiting Taisuke will create a bath in your Stronghold, at the end of the third deck. Bring certain characters to it, and you may be rewarded with a special little conversation. I think this's all. If I missed any, let me know. * Hero (alone) * Katarina * Rita and Mizuki * Dario and Nalleo * Viki and Jeane * Ugetsu and Shiramine * Mizuki and Kate * Gau and Dario * Chalemange and Reinbach * Aldo and Ted * Eugene and Konrad * Paula and Jewel (need to recruit Jeremy) * Pablo and Warlock * Lino En Kuldes and Flare * Yu and Trishtian * Rita and Noah (must be done before planning to attack El-Eal). * Chiepoo, Nalkul, and Champo * Sigurd, Hervey, and Helmut * Deborah, Maxine, and Ameria * Helga, Millay, and Gretchen * Mitsuba, Reinhold, and Jeremy * Tal, Keneth, and Snowe In addition to changing the mural, you can also add one item to each bath. These include... * Pot of Failure * Pot of Razril * Pot of Obel * Pot of Nay * Celedon Pot * Voodoo Doll (makes the water dark) * Angel Statue (pees into the water) * Knight Statue * Figure of Old Man (shoots light into the water) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------Section 7: Smithing---------------------------------------(su_smit)------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Each character has one weapon, which they use for the entire game. To power up your weapons, you have to have them sharpened. Weapons can be sharpened up to level 16. To get really sharp weapons you can either find a better smithery, or wait until you recruit Adrienne, and get her better hammers. Adrienne can be found outside the Trading Post, during the evacuation of Obel. The local smitherys can level weapons up to certain levels. Middleport - Max Level: 3 Obel - Max Level: 6 Nay - Max Level: 7 Nest of Pirates - Max Level: 9 Obel (after liberation) - Max Level: 14 There are also four hammers for Adrienne, and are as follows. Iron Hammer - Max Level: 9 - Found at: Ruins Boss: Guard (second time). Copper Hammer - Max Level: 12 - Found at: Chest in front of Elenor's hut on Hermitage Island. Silver Hammer - Max Level: 15 - Found at: Chest in Knight's Courtyard, in Razril. Only available during that afternoon after liberation, before resting. Golden Hammer - Max Level: 16 - Found at: Chest in the Ruins. Must beat the Angel Hairball. Sharpening weapons isn't cheap, later on at least. The cost of sharpening increases exponentially. Level 1 - 300 potch Level 2 - 600 potch Level 3 - 1500 potch Level 4 - 2700 potch Level 5 - 3500 potch Level 6 - 4500 potch Level 7 - 7000 potch Level 8 - 11000 potch Level 9 - 18000 potch Level 10 - 27000 potch Level 11 - 35000 potch Level 12 - 43000 potch Level 13 - 52000 potch Level 14 - 60000 potch Level 15 - 70000 potch In addition to sharpening weapons, a smithery can also add a rune fragment to one. The effects of this are small at first, but the more you add, the stronger the effect becomes. The element of your weapon is the whichever element you have the most of on it. You can add up to 20 rune pieces, so for the greatest effect, try not to add more than one type. Rune pieces will not weaken your attacks against an enemy who is strong to that element, but will increase damage to one weak against it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------Section 8: Armor------------------------------------------(su_armo)------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quite a daunting task ahead of me, but expect a nice list. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------Section 9: Runes------------------------------------------(su_rune)------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Same as above. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------Section 10: Items-----------------------------------------(su_item)------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now I'm just getting lazy. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------Section 11: Shops-----------------------------------------(su_shop)------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yawn... So tired... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------Section 12: Combo Attacks---------------------------------(su_comb)------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Some characters work well together, and have unique combo attacks, in which two or more players can basically both use their turn to perform one special attack. These attacks can be devastating... or silly. Combo attacks can also gain levels. It takes about ten fights to unlock the combo, and about ten more for each level. There are three levels, and each gets slightly more powerful, though the description doesn't change. You don't have to use the combo for it to gain a level. Below are some of the ones I've found. Done from memory, so please forgive mistakes until I get everyone back. * Friendship Attack - Hero and Snowe 1x damage to one enemy. * Ninja Attack - Akagi and Mizuki 1x damage on one enemy. * Fishermen Attack - Ugetsu and Shiramine 0.4x damage on all enemies. * Two Sword Attack - Hero and Kika 0.4x damage on all enemies. * Pirate Attack - Herley Sigurd 1x damage on one enemy. * Love Love Attack - Reinbach and Chalemange 0.4x damage on all enemies. * Bow and Arrow Attack - Aldo and Ted 0.4x damage on all enemies. * True Friend Attack - Hero and Snowe (later) 1.5x damage on one enemy. Magical attacks can also be combined, if two characters have compatible level 4 spells, the resulting combined magic will be available at the bottom of the spell list. To use it, select it like a combo attack. It will take both character's turns, but can be devastatingly powerful. Full list to be added soon. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------Section 13: Treasure Hunting------------------------------(su_trea)------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After recruiting Rene, and doing her tutorial, you can stop at various places to hunt treasure. These places are Donut island, where you found her; Mordo Island (second screen), slightly Northwest of Obel; Mountain Mass Island, very North of Razril; and Limestone Shelf Island, very South of Razril. To begin hunting, first, locate a treasure map. Then, bring it to Rene in your Stronghold. She is located in the Library, which is at the end of the fourth deck. She will analyze any maps you bring her, and hang on to them for you. To actually find the treasure, go to one of the locations. You will know you are in the right place, because your onscreen character will change to Rene. When Rene is your onscreen character, you will notice a little map in the top left corner. This is your active map. Hold L1, and press over on the D-pad to change to a map you think is in the area. When you get close to the treasure, Rene's divining rods will start to point in the direction. Move in that direction until the rods start to shake, then cross. That's where you dig. A few treasure hunting tips... * If the map looks like a bunch of semi-circles stacked on eachother, it's probably at Limestone Shelf Island. * If it's a large open area, or a very windy path, it's probably at Mountain Mass Island. * If it looks like a large circle, or near a curved wall, it's most likely at Donut Island. * If it's a long, mostly straight path, try Mordo Island. * Find Treasure Map 16 first. It's the Champion Orb, and makes treasure hunting so much easier (no random battles if the enemies are too weak). * SLOW THE HELL DOWN! :( I spent 10 minutes running around and wondering why the rods weren't reacting. When you think you are at a plce that matches the map, stop moving for a second. If the rods still don't react, try walking (hold the Triangle button) around a little. Beyond those, just be patient, and think logically. Unfortunatly, the locations of the treasures is differant for everyone's game. However, the rewards are constant. These are what I've found so far. Often, they can net you prizes, or potch. Most can be played in your Stronghold, while one cannot. This section will have to be filled in later, as I do not have access to most games right now, or have not played some indepth. ----The Lottery---- Buying items from shops will get you Lottery Tickets. These can be taken to one of the many Lotterys, for a free spin of the wheel. When you spin the wheel, one of five colored balls will fall out. White is 5th place, and a Medicine; blue is 4th place, and a Mega Medicine; green is third place, and a Jizo Clock; red is second place, and a Sunbeam Orb; and finally, gold is first place. The first place prize varies, on where you win. In your HQ, a first prize is a Pirate King Crown the first time, then, a Diamond every time after that. In Obel, Middleport, and Nay, a first prize will net you 10000 potch. Tips for winning? Nope. Just, boost your luck as much as you can. Also, wearing a lottery ticket on your head for an ammount of time seems to turn them into Lucky Lottery tickets, which give +10 instead of +1. ----Basil's Tops---- ----Gunter's Dice---- ----Rita's MahJong---- Rita offers a variation of MahJong. The rewards aren't that great, but it's pretty fun, so I'm not complaining. In this game, there are 41 tiles. There are four colored sets, with three numbered tiles each, and three of each number. There are also five elemental tiles. To win, you must gather three sets of tiles. You can either collect one each of the numbered tiles in a set (Red 1, Red 2, and Red 3), Or three of the same tile (Red 3, Red 3, Red 3). Also, any three of the elemental tiles will work. To actually win though, you must call "Reach" when you are one tile from winning, then either draw the tile you need to win "Tsumo", or wait for Rita to discard it, and take it for yourself, "Pon". You can also "Pon" if you have two of the same tile, and Rita discards the third. This takes her tile, and your two, and sets them off to the side, out of your hand, and safe from the Fire tile. Which brings up the elemental tiles. While, you can use them to complete a set, they can also be used for various effects. * Fire - Destroys one of Rita's tiles. Good if you think you are going to lose, like if she calls "Reach". But bad, because you might destroy a tile you need. * Water - Resurrects a discarded tile to your hand. This also works with tiles that Rita has discarded. VERY useful, especially for getting three of a kind sets. * Lightning - Rita alsways seems to get this one in my game... But, it lets you draw three more times. My favorite. * Wind - Turns around a random number of Rita's tiles. Not only does this allow you to see her tiles, but it also, in theory, makes it so she can't see them... Really annoying if she hits you with it. * Earth - Protects your tiles from the Fire and Wind tiles. Only works on the first one used. So, if Rita uses Wind then Fire, you lose a tile. As far as scoring goes, three of a kind is a little better as far as points. Also, the higher the number on the tile, the more points. So, three 3's give you more points than three 2's. Both sides start with 10000 points, and after each round, the winner takes a certain amount of the loser's points, depending on their sets. At the end of 10 rounds, the one with the most points win. The amount you win or lose depends on the bet, and by how many points you won or lost. ----Noah's Cards---- ----Igor's Game---- ----Cat and Mouse---- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------Section 15: Credits---------------------------------------(su_cred)------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Really more of a thank you section. But I would like to thank the following people. * Konami... Even if Suikoden has it's flaws, the series is awesome... * P Jay, for correcting an error in the Boss: Fog Ship Guide part. ------End------
