Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex Boss FAQ By James "Lagunathemoron" Wardle 14th December 2002 Introduction: Welcome to Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex Boss FAQ. At the moment, Gamefaqs does not have a Boss FAQ for any of the three versions, and since this game has very, very hard bosses I thought to lend a hand. TABLE OF CONTENTS 1) Disclaimer 2) Bosses a) Ball Crunch b) Tidal Crunch c) Fire Crunch d) Giant Crunch e) Final Battle 3) Credits 4) Version History 5) Contact -------------------- 1) DISCLAIMER -------------------- Disclaimer: This is my Boss FAQ for Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex. In the arena, both you and Crunch are aiming to go around hitting the rocks. Hitting a rolling rock the colour blue will transfer the rock on to your side for a limited amount of time, in this time you must get the remaining rocks the same colour. meanwhile Crunch will attack you in his much bigger ball he too will change the colour of the rocks. If you touch any of Crunch's rocks you will lose around 10% of your health, If Crunch touches you you will lose around 20%. To actually hit him, you have to make all the rocks blue, the first phase makes you change two rocks, the second three and finally four rocks. After getting all the rocks one colour Crash will perform a special attack. ++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++++++ Second Boss: Tidal Crunch Character: Crash Bandicoot Crash's Health: one Crunch's Health: four This fight is HARD! One hit and you're dead! There are four parts to this fight, all involve jumping over platforms and hitting Crunch, fail once and you have to start all over again. The first part is easy enough, jump over each platform, jumping over the blue energy rays. Time correctly and spin attack Crunch when you get to him. The second part involves both blue and green energy rays, the green follow the blue and go over Crash, so instead of jumping just stay on the platform, but be careful as the platform sinks after about ten seconds. The third stage is basically the same as the second one except he uses a more powerful attack, he shakes the platforms causing you to fall off so jump carefully. Finally the fourth and hardest one, he never stops using his rays and shaking so be on your guard. The best way to do it is to crouch and then jump when bubbles appear, then jump again once the blue energy comes. TIP: Time jumps carefully, watch his attacks for a bit before eading in, there is no time limit, jump over blue, duck under green. ++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++++++ Third Boss: Fire Crunch Character: Crash Bandicoot Crash's Health: one Crunch's Health: three This is a typical chase. Run away from him jumping over the rocks he throws, he throws from left to right to left again. By this time you will have gotten to a bridge, jump in the robot and start chasing him, pressing SQUARE to fire water, aim and fire at Crunch. Secondly he throws rocks faster and the distance is longer, to the middle of the bridge. Again chase him down with the robot but JUMP over the fire rocks he drops behind, if he treads right, you go left but aim for the right and vice-versa. For his third and final attempt at burning Crash Bandicoot he will throw rocks more violently, some of right split in to two rocks, and the distance is even longer plus he gets a head start in the robot stage, again avoid his fire rocks and wet him. If you fail to hit him and go back to the start point, you will have to repeat the current stage again. If you die, you have to do it from the start. ++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++++++ Fourth Boss: Giant Crunch Character: Crash Bandicoot Crash's Health: 100% Crunch's Health: 100 Crunch has gone giant so its time to take to the skies. He has many attacks which are: Ball throw - Crunch fires an energy ball at you. Use a barrel roll to avoid Energy storm - Crunch fires multiple balls at you, pilot to avoid them Energy beam - Crunch uses a huge beam to try and wipe you out, again use a barrel roll Energy wave - When Crunch is using this, he leaves one space and you can see this when he prepares for his attack, get in that space. You cannot hurt Crunch because of his force field, however you can hit him when he is using one of these attacks, so when he is either using it or getting ready, shoot his huge body, he will look like he is getting electrocuted. After you have hit him enough he will cancel one of these attacks, then he will cancel another leaving two, these are often random but he likes to leave his Energy Wave. If you take too long Crunch might just leave one attack which is handy if one keeps harming Crash for 20% per go. AND Remember, attack when he is preparing for an attack. ++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++++++ Final Boss: Crunch Character: Crash Bandicoot Crash's Health: one Crunch's Health: N/A This is it! The final battle! Crunch now has all four masks and will use them whenever he wants. Unlike the previous times, all these masks do now if cause a hazard for example rocks on the screen or energy beams which can be easily jumped over, especially with your new super jump ability. At the start he uses rocks to fall down, not a problem, just run through them. Once he has done it, Aku Aku the evil mask glows around him, quickly press L1 and get the Bazooka ready and shoot Crunch before Aku Aku can regenerate him. Crunch will now send Cortex down to hurt you so spin attack him. Crunch will now send ice balls on to you as well as falling rocks. Once he has done it, Aku Aku the evil mask glows around him, quickly press L1 and get the Bazooka ready and shoot Crunch before Aku Aku can regenerate him. Crunch will now send Cortex down to hurt you so spin attack him. Crunch will now press the third button causing two grates on the floor to burn, jump to another one quickly, then avoid the ice balls and then the falling rocks. Once he has done it, Aku Aku the evil mask glows around him, quickly press L1 and get the Bazooka ready and shoot Crunch before Aku Aku can regenerate him. Crunch will now send Cortex down to hurt you so spin attack him. Finally energy rays will come, make use of your double jump and jump over all of them. Once he has done it, Aku Aku the evil mask glows around him, quickly press L1 and get the Bazooka ready and shoot Crunch before Aku Aku can regenerate him. Crunch will now send Cortex down to hurt you so spin attack him. Congratulations, you have completed the game. Too bad you didn't exactly fight Crunch on a one on one fight... oh well, looking forward to Crash Bandicoot 5! -------------------- 3) CREDITS -------------------- James Wardle - For writing this Boss FAQ CjayC - For hosting Gamefaqs and for posting this FAQ -------------------- 4) VERSION HISTORY -------------------- 1.0 This is the first version, I have wrote strategies for all five bosses. 2.0 Added several tips and a new Contact greeting -------------------- 5) CONTACT -------------------- If you wish to contact me about this FAQ, please send an e mail with "Crash Bandicoot 4 Boss" or something like it in the subject to james@planter.karoo.co.uk and I will try my best to answer E mails.
