----------------- StarFleet Command ----------------- PC Game FAQ Version 1.0 Release History: 1.0 Inital Release Section 1: Introduction --------- I don't know about you but I'm a Trek fan. When I saw this game in the bargain bin I didn't resist. There are very few walkthrough's on the net so I took it upon myself to write this one. Where as most Real Time Strategy (RTS) games focus on resource gathering this game chooses to focus on resource management and allocation. You as the commanding officer of a starship must decide what actions your starship will take and more importantly how to juggle the finite energy resources of your starship to accomplish such orders. I have found this twist a refreshing change and hope you find it that too. Section 2: Basic Strategy --------- I suggest you complete the academy missions for whatever race you choose to play as. This will introduce you to the basics of power management. What they leave out is this: 1.) Missile Defense - There is a symbol that resembles a shield where you can allocate energy to missile defense systems. The button that looks like a star will set up point defense phasers to shoot down enemy missiles. The numbers will activate a corrseponding number of tractor beams to capture and hold enemy missiles before they can strike. You also have the option of targeting and destroying missiles manually with your regualar weapons which you should keep in mind in missions where you must defend something. 2.) Recruiting Officers at starbase improves ship performance so don't overlook this. After a mission be sure to repair your ship at shipyard. This is also where you can buy up to two additional ships for your task- force and refit (upgrade) your ships. At spacedock you can purchase important items such as marines, spare parts and missiles. 3.) If you are having trouble with a mission, try going to the hailing screen which looks like a black rectangle and hit mission breifing. 4.) A good tactic in battle is to overload your torpedoes, get in to 3 or so and fire them only. Take knocks out the shields, letting your phasers hit critical systems and perform either capture or hit and run with your marines. Section 3: Federation Walkthrough --------- Pirate missions: If you get the mission with the pirate in the asteroid field, watch out. He's leading you back to a starbase. To beat this you need either to buy other ships to accompany you or to get to the raider which is your objective, tractor beam him away from the base and then destroy him. Dancing with Myself: I had trouble with this one. It is a mission you cannot complete without having wingmen. Be sure to order them to capture your counterpart, after he's down to half hull strength set your weapons to disable (the partial explosion icon under the weapons console) and take out as many marines of his as possible before trying to capture his ship. After that just mop and tractor the ship to the gorn/klingon/romulan and then hail them. William Decker: Get some ships on your side. NCL's or whatnot will be helpful. I concentrated on the leftmost one then captured Decker. It just takes practice and luck. Nest of Spies: Approach the starbase. Orions will show up. Slow to let the imperials engage them, let the Orions take out one of their cruisers. Then sweep in and whoop the Orions but be sure not to let the other imperial crusier get destroyed. Return to the starbase, then engage that very cruiser and be sure to capture it. Knock out the bases shield, then using the transporter icon that is in your ship diagram screen (the same icon you use to beam transporter mines) and select the inflitration team and beam them aboard at 5 klicks. After awhile beam them back and head for the border and get a taco while you're at it. Lands of the Lost: Oh man. What a mission. It's easier than it looks though. Deepscan the planets at a range of 15 or so using the science officer. After both are scanned, head for the energy rift. Proceed at maximum imulse, take weapons offline but leave the shields. Orions show up by the bucketload, just ignore them and scan the rift. After the scan is complete keep going till you cross the border and you're done. Settling the Skorr: This one is tough without proper backup. You'll need atleast two NCD+'s to pull this off. I did this mission with 3 DN+'s hehe! Stay as close to the Federation ship as you can. If some freighters bite the big one then so be it. Keep the Sildrov free of enemy fire and be mindful of incoming Klingons. If you can keep that ship safe until it escapes then go back and keep as many freighters alive as possible. After the remaining freighters leave you are free to do so. Damnation: What I did was this. Take the weapons offline, put full energy into the engines, then engage your tractor beam on the federation freighter. Head full speed towards the rift with your shields up, ignore the riff raff and wait for the freighter to say its done. Head about 30 degrees to the right look at the map and head towards the black hole. Once again head full blast (you shouldn't have had to stop at all at this point). When you're 10 klicks from the black hole disengage the tractor while providing covering fire. Within a minute or two if you keep the freighter safe the mission will be over. Anyone know what: I think the active Doomsday Machine is the one that says DML. Doomsday it is?: It will also have an imperial ship orbiting. This took me a few tries, as one of your objectives is to destroy an imperial ship and my stupid escorts kept accidentally flying themselves into the active doomsday device. Deepscan till you find the active one. What I did then was hail or harrass the orbiting imperial while the planetkiller is facing you, then move away. Hopefully it will stupidly fly to catch you and in the process fly into the maw of the planet killer. Rift Raft: You can beat this the same way as Damnation. Push your freighter to the sun then that's it! Doomsday 2: I captured Decker first. Then just pump all energy into the engines, you wont need your weapons. Race to a planetkiller, transport a nova bomb the same way you did with the infiltration team in the other mission at 5 klicks, rinse and repeat. You only have 3 nova bombs so once you're out, go to Earth at 5 klicks and hail them to get more. I had no problem with this mission. Section 4: Other Races Walkthroughs --------- Coming Soon. Once I beat them I'll update the FAQ. Section 5: Extra Missions and links --------- For those of you who got this game in the bargain bin as I did, be aware that there is also a Gold Edition which has extra missions. For those of you without the Gold Edition then they can be found at the following links: http://sfcbriefing.firehawke.com/ http://www.cheek.org/sfc/ 1.03 is the latest version.
