The Curse of Monkey Island is a cartoony game, following Monkey Island 2 : Lechucks Revenge. I love this game very much, its the best damn game to hit the P.C yet! And, any game with the slogan "What's Shaper, Your Sword or Your Wit?" deserves respect ^_^. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) Authors Note Disclaimer : Ai! Once you have the game up and running, you will see a few, short scenes and you will get a choice of two modes. The Curse of Monkey Island game and The Curse of Monkey Island : Mega Monkey. First time players should choose the first option, as it is a bit easier then Mega Monkey, but keep in mind, the game will be the same, but with less puzzles. There are two ways of playing the Curse of Monkey Island. The first being Mouse, the control’s for the mouse are.... Left Click = Move Guybrush Right Click = Action And the other is using a Keyboard.... F1 = Game Options I or TAB = Open/Close inventory C = Drag item T = Talk U - Use/Pick up etc E = Look at D = Check to see which mode you are playing. ESC = Skip Cut-Scene SHIFT + W - View credits TAB - Fire cannon during ship combat <-- + --> Port and Starboard during Ship Movement **CREDIT TO.... The Curse of Monkey Island instruction Manual for giving most of the information above** ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) CHARACTERS ----------------------------------------------------------------------- There are over 40 characters in The Curse of Monkey Island which Guybrush can interact with. Here are descriptions of just some of the characters. These descriptions may contain spoilers of the previous two games, so be warned. If you want me to type up a description of a character, or have any corrections, please E mail me at james@planter.karoo.co.uk with "Monkey Island 3 : Character" as the subject, or something along the lines of that ;). **************** GuyBrush : Guybrush Threepwood is the main character of the Monkey Island games. Guybrush has been called many names over the past, like "Mr.Brush" or "Guybrush Nosehair". Guybrush has always dreamed of becoming a pirate, he gets his own boat now and again, but usually, his crew doesn't listen to him. If Guybrush accomplishes something great, you'll NEVER hear the end of it, ask my old friends Bart and Frink. Guybrush is played by Dominic Armato. **************** **************** Elaine : Elaine Marley is the female lead of the series. She is a governor of several islands in the Caribbean. She likes Guybrush for the man he is, and like him, is not afraid of danger. She is in a major part of a love triangle, as Lechuck has feelings for her.... Elaine is played by Alexandra Boyd. **************** **************** LeChuck : The main villain, LeChuck has had it in for Guybrush ever since he fought him in Melee's governor mansion. LeChuck is undead, immortal and has a deep crush of Elaine. LeChuck has an army of undead. Him and his army is feared on every island. LeChuck is played by Earl Boen **************** **************** Murray : Murray is one of LeChucks henchmen, well...WAS until Guybrush blew away his body, leaving only his head. Murray is the best character in the game in my opinion, because of his sense of humor and puns, a lot of Monkey Island fans will agree with me on this one. Murray seems to be following Guybrush around islands, and is always trying to persuade him to join him, and take over the world! Murray is played by Denny Delk. **************** **************** Stan : Stan is the Cid of Monkey Island games. He has appeared in every game, and has a different role. In the first game, he sold Guybrush a "Dodgy" ship to go to Monkey Island. Stan then get threw to another island by LeChuck, after he punched him hard. In the second game, he was on Booty Island selling "Used" coffins, then Guybrush shoved him in one and nailed it shut. Now he is back, with a new business.... Stan is played by Pat Pinney. **************** **************** Voodoo Lady : The Voodoo Lady is very mysterious. She has been in the Monkey Island games for years now, and gives Guybrush hints on the game. She gets annoyed easily. The Voodoo Lady is played by Leilani Jones Wilmore **************** _______________________ / THANKS \ ------------------------------------------/ TO! \ | Special Thanks to The Curse of Monkey Island Manual for | | Giving out information on who played who | | | | | |__________________________________________________| -------------------------------------------------------------- 5) ISLANDS -------------------------------------------------------------- Whilst there is a lot of islands on the map of Islands, Guybrush himself only visits a small few in The Curse of Monkey Island. The list of Islands is here to find out which islands you are on / Go to or just to prove somebody wrong ;). This will contain slight spoilers, so skip onto section 6 if you don’t want the game spoiled. **************** Plunder Island : This is the first Island in the game. Houses memorable people like The Voodoo Lady, Kenny and the three barbers. Guybrush will have to find a crew, a ship and a map in order to reach “BLOOD ISLAND”. Plunder Island is the first Monkey Island game to feature Day and Night places, for example, the south is very sunny and erotic, but the north is quite dark. **************** **************** Blood Island : This is the island with the most puzzles. Blood Island is quite dark, and is a volcanic island. A few Monkey Island legends from past games are here, such as Stan and Lemon Head. Blood Island is the first (and maybe last) game to feature a volcanic Island. **************** **************** Skull Island: One of the series “Smaller” islands. Skull Island looks more of a “Duck Island” then a skull, according to Guybrush anyway ^_^. Very few people live on this island. This is the island where Guybrush has to retrieve the diamond ring which can cure Elaine. Don’t forget to polish you’re card antics Guybrush! **************** **************** Monkey Island : The final island, making a return from the first game. A lot has happened since then, I aren’t saying what has happened, but it will be a surprise to you (Its mentioned in this walkthrough if you skip ahead and try and spoil yourself). What is the deadly secret? Will Guybrush defeat LeChuck? This island holds the answer! **************** ------------------------------------------------- 6) SONG LYRICS ------------------------------------------------- The Curse of Monkey Island is not a music, but has its fair share of songs and poems. Well, actually, has one song and a few short poems. Here their are : ****************************** A Pirate I was meant to be ****************************** Pirates : We're a band of vicious pirates, A-Sailing out to see When you hear our gentle singing, You'll be sure to turn and flee! Pirates : The brass is what we'll polish and the deck is what we'll mop Guybrush : You say you're nasty pirates... ...Scheming, Thieving, bad bushwhackers, From what I've seen I tell you, You're not pirates! Guybrush : We'll surely avoid scurvy if we all eat an orange Pirates : And....! .....Um.... ....Err... Door-Hinge? Nono Guess the song is over then Okay! back to work Guybrush : Gee! I guess I feel a little guilty now... ***************************** There’s a Monkey in my pocket! ***************************** Guybrush : Oh, There’s, a, Monkey in my pocket and he's stealing all my change, His stare is so blank and glassy, I suspect that he's deranged..... ***************************** I've got a friend in the ocean! ***************************** Guybrush : Once my old man spoke to good King Triton, And asked, "Why all this senseless fightin'?" These are just quick and easy questions, and will be a bit strict to get here, so please check the guide for further information Q) I need to get Haggis McMutton to join my crew but he won't. HELP! How do I make him join? A)You need to beat him at Caber Toss, but he will always beat you, unless you...rig it... To do this, Use the Serrated bread knife on the sawhorse. This'll make the rum fall, now use the ember on the trail of rum. Then a "lighter" log will fall down. Talk to Haggis and Guybrush should beat him. Q) I need to get Edward Van Helgen to join my crew but he won't. HELP! How do I make him join? A) You need to duel Edward, but he will always beat you, despite whichever gun you choose. Remember when he talked about singing and music? Well, shut the gun case and you should see a banjo (or at least the case) and select that. Now you need to beat Edward in a memory game. Q) I need to get Cutthroat Bill to join my crew but he won't. HELP! How do I make him join? A) If Bill was to join you, he wants to see some gold. The only gold which will work in him is a gold tooth, and Captain Blond Beard, the owner of the Chicken Restaurant has one. Give him a bubble gum, and when he blows up a bubble, use a pin on it, this will release the gold tooth. Q) Where can I find the map? A) Palidoor has it. He is on the beach. Once on the beach, make Palidoor turn over and use the cooking oil on him. Q) How do I get on Plunder Island beach? A) Get the card from the chicken in Blond Beards restaurant, then go to the beach, get 3 towels and wet them, and place them as stepping stones. Q) How do I get out of the snake? A) First, ignore all the things around you, and pick up the stuff inside the snake. Then use the Ipecac flower on the pancake syrup. Q) How do I beat Edward Van Helgan in the duel? A) Look what string Edward is pulling as his last note. You must click on the string at anytime on Guybrushes banjo, matching Edwards last note. :) SPECIAL THANKS TO Joey JoJo Jr Weird Monkey Farmer Dark Penguin for the questions ------------------------------------------------- 8) REVIEW ------------------------------------------------- This is my review for The Curse of Monkey island, I wrote the review at Gamefaqs, and I am posting it along with the walkthrough. Have a good read. +++++++++++++++++++ Aye! Shiver me Timbers as you are going to read the review for the best P.C game ever. Okay! Enough pirate talk from me! The Monkey Island has took gamers by storm, since its first game all those years ago, about Guybrush Threepwood, a man with a destiny, to become a pirate! Story - 10 : The game starts off with Guybrush near Monkey Island in a bumper/dodgem car. He is missing Elaine, he is hungry and gets caught up in a battle near Plunder Island. Guybrush gets captured by his foe ''LeChuck'' and is taken onboard his ship. Guybrush meets up with an old friend, Wally, and finds out that his love interest, Elaine is battling LeChuck from Plunder Islands fort. Guybrush destroys LeChuck once more and escapes the ship and meets up with Elaine on Plunder Island. Guybrush proposes to Elaine, and when he gives her the ring, she turns into a solid, gold statue. Its all up to Guybrush to get the ''Uncursed'' ring and save her! Graphics - 10 : The Curse of Monkey Island graphics are cartoony, it seems ripped out of Fox Kids or Cartoon Network, which is great. The back grounds and close up things are in massive detail! The character animations are outstanding, not slow and jerky, but nice and smooth, great lightning and shadow effects. Sound and Music - 10 : If you have read any of my other reviews, you'll notice I am not very bothered with either music or sound, but this makes a exception. Why? Because the speech is brilliant, it will make any other game or cartoon with speech in blush. Characters mouth stop when the speech over, unlike most games. The music is pirate style, and Caribbean style. The best thing done with the music is the songs, there are several shanty’s and poems, but there is a proper song in the game, starring pirates, and it'll be one of the funniest songs you will ever hear in you're life! Gameplay - 10 : Being a puzzle game, Monkey Island 3 is a very hard game, and it is very funny. You have two ways of playing the game, a mouse, where you point of click or confusing controls on a keyboard, Its up to you. Plus, there are two modes of play, a Normal or a Mega Monkey (Same as normal, but with more puzzles). In Monkey Island 3, you cannot go wrong, you cannot die, and the puzzles make sure you get each and every item before moving on to the next chapter. Replaybility - 10 : Having a basic idea on what to do, the game takes roughly 30 hours to complete, but if you take you're time and not use a guide, it can be like 40-50 hours on normal mode. Mega-Monkey (Hard mode)adds more difficulty, so combine the two and you have about 70 hours of gameplay on you're first run, and you'll want to play through again. Overall - 10 : The BEST Monkey Island and PC game yet. You must bye adventure fans! A gripping story, and hilarious things, you NEED this game. it is worth every piece of eight! ++++++++++++++++++++ ------------------------------------------------- 9) WALKTHROUGH! ------------------------------------------------- There are two modes of The Curse of Monkey Island. The first section is for the normal mode (top option on mode select) and the Mega Monkey is the harder version. I have wrote 2 different versions of the guide for each mode. Enjoy :). ==================================== 9) WALKTHROUGH (a) normal mode ==================================== ********************************************** ACT ONE : The Demise of the Zombie pirate Le Chuck ********************************************** After been caught in the battle, Guybrush finds himself locked in a room with a pirate. The door is locked, meaning there is no escape. Move the mouse over to the pirate and when the curser goes RED, click and left the left mouse button. Click on the parrot icon, this will let Guybrush speak to the person. From now on, "Examine" is the skull icon, the Talk/Eat/Blow up is the parrot icon, and the hand icon is pick up/push/pull/open etc. Anyway, speak to the pirate. Feel free to talk to the pirate about anything, but if for some reason you want me to make you're decision for you, here is what you should do : Say that he doesn’t scare you, then ask him if he has a fake beard. Guybrush will now recognize the pirate as "Wally" from Monkey Island 2. Now say you're not in the mood for sales hype. Tell him he is a failure as a pirate, then feel free to choose which line, they all lead to the same event. Wally will now break to the floor in tears. Pick up the plastic hook which is on the floor and look at the back of the room, you should spot a ramrod, pick it up. RIGHT click the screen to bring up in inventory. You can experiment by reading Wally's leaflets, or blowing up the balloons. But what you should do is LEFT click the plastic hook and bring it over to the ramrod, to combine it to make a "Gaff". Click on the cannon and go to "Use Cannon" on the golden coin. -------------------- MINI GAME : You are now controlling the cannon. Use the mouse to move and left click to fire a cannon. You're aim is to destroy the boats. This is really self-explanatory though, its not that hard to control. Sure, you might miss a few times, bit just fire a little bit higher or lower to get that perfect shot -------------------- Once you have completed the mini game, go outside and move the curser towards the window until you see a red arrow, click it and Guybrush will look outside. There will be a debris. Get out the GAFF and pick it up. You should now get a Skeleton Arm and a Cutless. There is also a talking Skull called Murray. If you don't like Murray, you can always knock him off the wood. Go back inside the ship, by finding the red arrow and clicking it. Do you see the rope near the cannon? well get the Cutless out of you're inventory and drag it across to the rope and cut it. Now use the cannon again....and watch the cutscene. You'll find yourself in the treasure hold. Feel free to look around and examine the hilarious objects that LeChuck, the deadly ghost pirate has. Look for a brown bad on the floor, and pick it up. Behind it there is a diamond ring, pick it up. Now you're final puzzle of chapter 1 is to break out of there. Get the diamond ring and use it to cut a hole in the porthole. On shore, Guybrush will be re-united with his love, Elaine and his friend Wally. Guybrush gives Elaine the diamond ring, and she turns into stone. Cure ACT 2! ********************************************** ACT TWO : The Curse gets worse ********************************************** After the short scene, pick up the ember and walk to the right (or left) side of the screen until you see a red arrow. Double click and Guybrush will now be on Plunder Island's map. Have a nice look-around. The town is Puerto Pollo, the beach is...a beach, the dark waters to the north is Danjer Cove, you should not go to any of them yet. Also note the fort, where Guybrush just came out of. Look for a swamp, towards the left of the map and enter it. You will find Murray once you enter, have a chat with him and enter the run-down ship. Pick up the pin from the floor and watch a funny scene with Mort, whom you'll meet much later. You can put the pin back in the paper, so see Mort suffer some more. Once you have the win, use a nickel on the bubble gum machine to get some gum. You see the alligator? pull on its tongue and wait a few seconds for a familiar face, The Voodoo Lady. Talk to her about what happened. After a brief conversation, Guybrush remembers what he should've done, hide Elaine, but been the unfortunate he is, he forgotten and checks to see if she is still there. He goes back to the Voodoo Lady. Ask her about how to uncurse Elaine, and Blood Island, apparently, Guybrush has to go to Blood Island and uncurse Elaine, but to do that, Guybrush must get a map, a crew, and a ship! Once done talking, leave. Once you are back on the Island Map, go to Puerto Pollo, the island town. In right side of town, on the sea front is a building. Enter it and you will be in a barber shop. Talk to all the pirates about everything and leave. Go to the large building in the background, the theater and look for the coat. Open the pocket and get the glove, search the coat for some dandruff as well. Pick up the Magic Wand and use it on the hat and pick up the Ventriloquism book. Look at the chest, then the Blood Island sticker. Walk right and talk to Slappy Cromwell then leave. Apparently, Slappys travel agent has a map to Blood Island, and he is on the beach. Leave the theater and go back onto the island map and enter the beach. You cannot enter the beach without a Club Card, and seeing as you don't have one, go back to Puerto Pollo. Go back to the barbers and speak to the tall barber, Edward Van Helgan, Make sure you speak to him about your crew if you haven’t already. Use the glove on him, this will make Edward think you want a duel (Oh dear!) and take you to the fields of Plunder Island. You have the choice of two guns, but whichever one you choose, you will always end up losing. Close the gun cases and there will be another case. Select it and Edward will get out two banjo's. ---------- MINI GAME : This is a game of memory : When Edward plays his Banjo, who will hit the last string, slower and longer (so you get a chance to remember it). When it is Guybrushes go, click on the string which Edward plucked last. Simple! after awhile, Edward will get mad and play the banjo in a rampage, pick up a gun and shoot the banjo. Now you have your first crew member. ---------- Go back to the barbery Coast and talk to the man the chair, Captain Rottingham. You need to get rid of him, but his hairdo will not be ready for quite awhile. Wait until the big pirate, Haggis Muchutton, whom is cutting Rottinghams hair, wait until he places the comb down on the table and put the dandruff /head lice on the comb. After a short scene, ask Haggis if he can cut your hair and go in the chair. Use the handle and take the paperweight. Once Haggis has left, use the handle again until Guybrush can reach the scissors which are on the wall. Get the scissors. Once you get out of the chair, walk over to Cutthroat Bill and pick up the jaw breaker which is near him. Leave the shop and walk to the left of town, until you get near Kenny, the lemonade seller. Take a look at the hedge and use the scissors on the flower. Now use the scissors on the undergrowth. You’ll find a new area, The Snake Crossing. Walk up a bit, and Guybrush will get eaten by a snake (THIS IS UNAVOIDABLE). The game rubs it in with all the items around the snake, but ignore them and pick up all the “stuff” in the snake. Now for your escape, get the ipecac flower and use it on the pancake syrup, now use the Ipecac Syrup on the snake. Guybrush will now be stuck in a tricky situation… Quicksand. Combine the paper weight with one of the helium balloons. Guybrush should get the balloon with the paper weight out and it will start floating. Now, pick up a thorn (right in front of Guybrush) and a hollow reed. Combine both the reed and the thorn to make a peashooter thingy, Get the rope. Blow the Balloon, so it is directly above the branch. Now use the peashooter on the floating balloon. Guybrush will now be in Danjer Cove. This isn’t very interesting ….yet, so go back to Puerto Pollo and go in the chicken restaurant and show the captain your reservation (which you got from the Snake) Walk over to the quiet man (Skeleton) and push him, he will collapse, get the serrated bread knife from his back. Look at the chicken bones, and swipe the Club Card from the middle of them. Talk to Captain Blond beard about everything, and go to the inventory and give him the gobstopper and some sum. When he blows a bubble, use the pin to knock the gold tooth out. Get the Pie Pan and biscuit cutter (I think the pie pan and the biscuit cutter are in the easy mode, if you don’t see them in the restaurant, just pick up the tooth and go to the barbers) . Pick up the gold tooth on the floor and go back to the barbers. Remember Cutthroat Bill? He said he will join your crew when you show him some treasure. Show him the gold tooth you just got, and he’ll join your crew. You just need you more person, a ship and a map. Who else better to have as a crew member then Haggis? Ask Haggis to join your crew, after a few scenes of dialog, you will be on a hill, getting ready for a Caber toss. Haggis will beat you, you can beat him if you was stronger, or you had a lighter caber. After Haggis returns to the barbers, go back on the hill (Anyone notice that you can examine the clock on the theater, and it will tell you the correct time?) and walk over to the sawhorse and use the Serrated Bread Knife on it. A keg of rum will now fall, and some rum will pour out. Now, use the ember on the trail of rum, and a light trunk will fall down. Talk to Haggis again and beat him at the caber toss. Well done, you have your third and final crew member. Exit Puerto Pollo and go to Danjer Cove (North of the map, it’s a dark area with a ship). Once there, go down the beach and use the boat. Row to the pirate ship and get on board. You will have a not very warm welcome. You’ll learn that the ship is property of “Le-“ but you’ll be interrupted before the rest of the name can be said, and get a choice of a punishment. Whatever you choose, your forced to walk the plank. Once Guybrush walks the plank, you’ll be back in your boat. Use the serrated Bread Knife on the plank. Get onboard the ship once again, and this time you’ll be tarred and feathered. If I was you, I’d have a mess on the island first, it is really funny when you are feathered and you enter locations. After you have had your fun, go to the chicken restaurant and Blondebeard will mistake you for El Diablo, and hit you. You’ll find yourself back on the Sea Cucumber (the ship with the monkeys) and you’ll be in the captains quarters. Use the ventriloquist book on LeChimp. (If you do not have the book, open the porthole and go in to the theater and use the magic wand on the hat.) Captain LeChimps lackey will leave the room, get out of the pan and grab the map. Now open up the porthole and leave. Go onto the Island Map and go on to the beach. Speak to the Cabana boy about everything, and show him your Club Card. Your are permitted to enter the beach, which is where Slappy’s estate agent is resting. You can see him on the beach, but the sand is far to hot for Guybrush. Pick up a towel and dunk it in the ice bucket, and use it on the Cabana boy. Pick up another three towels from the trolley, and dip them in the ice bucket. Now go to the bit where the sand is hot, and lay the three towels down, so they act as stepping stones. Speak to Palidor, whom is sunbathing, and talk to him about everything. You will need Palidor to turn over, as he has the map to Blood Island on his back. Take his mug and leave. Return to Puerto Pollo and speak to Kenny, the lemonade seller and listen to his bottomless mug policy. Try this policy, and you’ll learn that Kenny, is a con-artist, who knows what the words Bottomless Mug really mean. Now, swap Palidors mug with Kennys mug, and ask for some more lemonade. See the pitcher? Get it and fill it up with Dye (There is some dye nearby) and go back to the beach. Pick up the cooking oil (Check near where the cabana boy used to be) . Walk over to Palidoor and give him the bottomless mug, and use the pitcher with the dye in with it. When Palidoor turns over, use the cooking oil on the map on his back. There is one more thing you must do, and that is get Elaine back. We know that the Sea Cucumber got her earlier, and she is no where to be seen on the ship, you must try somewhere else. The monkeys have gone to see Speare at Puerto Pollo theater. Go there and go on stage, and you’ll find out that Slappy IS making a fool out of himself, this will give you sometime. Go up stairs and you’ll be in the control panel. Pull the lever, and the lights will change and make a “X” near the gravestone on stage. That X is where Elaine is buried. Use the chicken grease you got from the chicken bucket, and use it on the cannon balls. Go on stage and use the shovel on the grave. You now have a map, a ship, three crew members and Elaine. Now its ship-Sail to Blood Island. ++++++++++++++++++++CHANGE OF DISC++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ When the Sea Cucumber leaves Danjer Cove, you will get a message, please insert disc 2. you simply have to take Disc 1 of the game out, and put Disc 2 in. If Disc 2 does not go, I suggest loading from your last save and try again, if not, please check your copy and the shop you got it from…. That’s all the advice I can give you. Sorry. ********************************************** ACT THREE : Three Sheets to the wind! ********************************************** As soon as the third act starts, Captain Rottingham will jump onboard your ship and demand for the map to Blood Island. The Captain and Guybrush have a small round of sword fighting, but Guybrush hands the map over. Act 3 is split into two stages, the first is ship combat, and the second is sword fighting. Ship Combat : This is action-based. You are controlling the Sea Cucumber, and is sailing on the sea near Plunder Island, enemy ships are coming at you, and one at a time you can fight them in close-up sea combat. In this combat, you must navigate with the left mouse button, in the same way as you'd control Guybrush, and the right mouse button will fire cannons, and will damage the ship. Once Guybrush has one the combat, you just onboard of the enemy ship and give them a round of insult sword fighting. The cannons you start with are a bit weak, and you must get them upgraded. Kenny the Foul mouth sells Cannons instead of Lemonade, no strings attached this time, but his prices are high, once you have defeated a enemy at both ship combat and sword fighting, you will get some booty/treasure which you can exchange for cannons. Once you have defeated a pirate at ship combat, and win a swordfight and wish to fight them again, you don't have to go through a sea battle. There are two modes to Ship Combat, an easy and hard. Haggis will ask you for your choice after he sings a song, if you don't want any help, it is much harder and much more fun, but if you select easy, its a breeze. Don't bother going straight for Captain Rottingham, your not powerful enough, try going for pirates, starting with "Not so furious" pirates, you know, ones which aren't much of a challenge. You'll need to get the best cannons to stand a good chance of beating Rottingham. Every time you win a battle, and have money, I suggest buying better cannons. To success in this, in combat, chase your opponent around, and corner them, and when you have the chance, fire the cannons. Don't worry, your ship can fire at both sides, but only fire at the side which needs firing. Your cannons aren't like a pistol from Tomb Raider, you need to give the cannons a few seconds to re-load, so in that time, you can chase or run, depending on the situation. Sword Fighting : Remember the sword fighting on The Secret of Monkey Island? Yes? The sword fighting on here is just like that, if No, well here is what its all about. Monkey Island 1,3 and 4 have Sword fighting sequences, but it is not a fighting mini game, however, it’s a insult game. Your character, or the enemy says a insult , and your enemy or yourself has to counter that insult, so it insults the opponent more then yourself. If your enemy said “I have met monkeys more polite then you”, you would say “Glad to hear you attended your family reunion”. You wouldn’t say “How appropriate, you fight like a cow” or that is just wrong, and does not make any sense at all. The Curse of Monkey Island version is not all insult, you have to RHYME your insult, like if your opponent said “When your father first saw you, he must have been mortified.”, you would reply “At least mine can be identified”. Do you see what I mean? However, all pirates in The Curse of Monkey Island are like this, but Captain Rottingham doesn’t rhyme, he just says an insult which has not been used by any other swordsman. Once you have won someone at a swordfight, you get their treasure and you can guy cannons at Puerto Pollo. The Sword fighting is best out of three, if Guybrush gets the opponent 3 times, he has won, if the opponent gets him 3 times, he’s lost, this changes to best out of 5 against Captain Rottingham. If you get one over your opponent when their do the insult, its your turn to do the insult, and if the opponent gets over you, its their turn to insult. It is sometimes best to let your opponent counter, as you can memorize their move. In the Captain Rottingham battle, He fires all the insults, and Guybrush has to counter them. In Insult Sword fighting, if your opponent goes to fast, you can always ask them to repeat what they just said. It is highly recommended that you fight the same pirates over again, you’d be getting a lot more answers and insults. If you lose at a Insult Sword Fight, you don’t have to go through the sea battle again, nor do you loose your treasure. For ship combat, you will be fighting a wide verity of ships. I have made a crappy table, to show some stats. These are the stats if you choose you like a tough sea battle. Ship Name Difficulty (out of 5) Recommended Cannons Captain Rottinham 4 Destructomatic T-47 Glass Bottom 1 Weak Cannons Really not fearsome 2 Weak Cannons Semi Fearsome 2 Bucaneers Buddy Midly Fearsome 3 Ouch Master Pretty Fearsome 3 Ouch Master Fearsome 4 Ouch Master / Home Maker Deluxe Really Fearsome 4 Mr. Massacre These are the stats if you asked for help. The Pirate Sword fighting is the main one, where you use the insults, but in the Captain Rottingham one, you must fight a much harder sword fight battle, and the captain will throw insults which you haven’t learned yet. I have made a insult list for the pirate section, next will be Captain Rottingham. (PIRATE SWORD FIGHTING INSULTS) Insult : Every enemy I’ve met I’ve annihilated! Insult : You have the sex appeal of a Shai-Per Response : I look that much like your fiancé? That is it. Use those above insults and responses and you should be on the way of getting your map. The Pirate Song : After Captain Rottingham leaves your ship at the start of the act, Cutthroat Bill, Edward Van Helgan and Haggis McHuttun will start singing a song. This is a great song, choose all the options. To end this song, you need to listen to a few verses, and when the option for the line “We’ll surely avoid scurvy if we all eat an orange!” comes up, and choose that. **************************************************** ACT FOUR : The Bartender, The Thieves, His Aunt and her lover **************************************************** There is a sea storm, Cutthroat Bill and Edward try they best to make the ship safe and sound, Guybrush is steering the ship and Haggis is holding onto his kilt. During the storm, The Sea Cucumber gets shipwrecked… .and ends up on Blood Island. Finally…. Your finally there. Edward and Cutthroat Bill are busy re-pairing the ship, and Haggis is sat nearby. Speak to Haggis, and he says he and the boys want to go back to been barbers on Plunder Island, and won’t go with Guybrush any further, no matter what you say. Talk to him about the lotion. He won’t let you have the location, until you find a substitute for Tar. Look near the water and pick up the bottle on the sand. Look in your inventory and “bite” the cork off the bottle. Leave the shipwreck on you’ll be on the “Blood Island” map. On the cliff, there is a lighthouse. Just a little left of the shipwreck is the clearing/forest. Below the volcano is “strange lights” where there is a feast going on. Below there we have a cemetery, right of that is the hotel. To the left of the island is a lighthouse, and under the clearing is the beach. Quite a lot of locations, but their not as large as the ones on Plunder Island. Go to the clearing, which is left of the shipwreck. In the clearing, you will spot Elaine, after a small, scene, leave and head for the Strange Lights. You’ll learn that it’s a village, where a feast is going to start. Look for the big, block of Tofu and pick it up, now leave and head to the cemetery. In the Cemetery, go past the tomb stones until you see and arrow pointing LEFT. Go left and you’ll be in another scene (this scene has a dog in it). Pick up the chisel and the mallet near tombstone. Pick up the dog treats and the dog hair, and give the dog some dog treats, so he’ll bite you. Exit the cemetery and go to the windmill. Go get some pepper from the pepper plant. Go through the windmill door and go up to the barrel and pick up some sugar. Leave the windmill and go to the Hotel. Talk to the old woman, Madame Xima and speak to her about Fortune readings. She will give you 5 Tarot Cards. Get the cushion off the stool, and speak to the Bartender, who is suffering from a severe hangover. Pick up the broachers and look at the recipe book, and look for a recipe which can cure a hangover and take the book. Look at the back door of the bar and open it. Inside, use the chisel on the massive cheese wheel (Now you know how Lagunathemoron gets his “Home made Cheese”) and get the Big Whoop fridge magnet. You will need to cure the hang-over of the bartender, the recipe book says you need some dog hair, an egg and pepper. You will just need the egg. Leave the hotel and go to the beach. Get the cushion from your inventory and place it on the rocks. Get out your mallet and use it on the tree with the egg on it. The egg will fall, and the cushion will break its fall. Pick up the egg and go back to the hotel. Give the Bartender the egg, the pepper and the dog hair, and he’ll make a hangover-cure. Speak to the bartender (You should get the Head B Clear bottle) and order a fruity drink. Pick up the umbrella you get and speak to the Bartender about everything, and order a grog. Use the Head B Clear on the grog and drink it. After a cut-scene, use the chisel on the coffin and you’ll hear some creepy noises. Pick up the nails from the coffin, and open the middle coffin in the middle…. To open up an old friend…. STAN! Stan only just got out of his tricky situation, since Guybrush locked him in a coffin back on Booty Island. Speak to Stan about everything (Anyone notice that Stans speech and arms don’t move as fast as expected?) and leave. Re-enter and speak to Stan once again, once your done, leave. Return to the hotel. Pick up the empty jar. Talk to Griswold Goodsoup (He is the bartender) and talk about the Goodsoup family, and about being buried in the Goodsoup family crypt. Griswold won’t believe your related, so go up stairs and enter the first room on the left. Use the mallet on the nail and leave. Pick up the nail. Use Stan’s business card on the upper left door. Enter the room. Pull the bed down and use the nails on the bed (sounds a bit…) and get the book. Use the scissors on the porthole and speak to Griswold about family history. Order a grog and use Dead B Clear. You’ll now be buried in the Goodsoup family crypt. In the Goodsoup Family Crypt, walk left and you’ll see a ghost. Look at the hole in the ceiling for a flashback. Talk to the ghost bride about everything and walk left. Pick up the crowbar and walk to the crack. Murray will make a “Great” appearance by falling through the ceiling. Talk to Murray and look through the crack in the wall. Speak to Mort. Use the skeleton arm on the lantern. Put the lantern on the coffin, and pick up Murray and use him on the lantern. Once Mort opens the crypt door, walk out and go to Stans. Ask Stan for a life insurance policy, give him the gold tooth and go back to the Hotel. Go into the back room and get the Death Certificate and go back to Stan’s and give it to him. Go back to the Strange Lights/ Village and pick up the tofu if you haven’t already. Pick up the Auger and the measuring cup. Go up the path to the volcano and talk to lemonhead (remember him?) about everything. Go back down and use the auger on the Tofu. Use the Tofu-mask on Guybrush and go up the path again, the ceremony will start. You’ll learn that the volcano is a vegetarian, if it has anything what comes from an animal, it’ll erupt. Use the cheese on the volcano and watch the scene. Go back to the hotel and use the cheese on the cooking pot. Pick up the cooking pot and go in to the hotel. Go upstairs and go in the upper left room and use the crowbar on the boarded wall and the bed. The skeleton will go flying into the Goodsoup Family Crypt. Return to the Goodsoup family crypt and talk to the Ghost Bride, and she’ll give you her engagement band. Go to the windmill again. Enter the door and examine the barrel, Use the Jar on it and get the sugar water. Take the cooking pot back to Haggis McHutton and he’ll give you the greasy hand lotion. Go to the Clearing and use the scissors on the Jar lid which you got from the jar, and put the jar of Sugar water on the tree stump. The flies will go in, so use the jar lid on the jar to trap them. Go to the lighthouse and put the lantern on the post. Go back down the beach and talk to the man, the lost Welshman. He will take you to Skull Island if you give him a compass. Use the measuring cup with the sea water, use the pin with the fridge magnet and use it on the cork and lastly, measuring cup, now give it to the Welshman. On Skull Island, go up the cliff and talk to the operator. He’ll let you go down, so do so. When Guybrush is falling, QUICKLY get out the umbrella and open it. Guybrush ill slowly drop onto the cave of the thieves. In the cave, speak to King Andrea and tell him you have a lot of money (The insurance policy) and he wants a game of cards with you. Guybrush will have a weak hand, so swap them for the 5 death cards Madame Xima gave you. You’ll get the un-cursed diamond ring, and back on Blood Island. Go to the clearing and use the Grease lotion on Elaine’s ring. Use the uncursed ring on the engagement band and use it on Elaine. Watch the cut-scene….but all is not well…. **************************************************** ACT FIVE : Kiss of the spider monkey! **************************************************** Talk to LeChuck about everything, he will decide to deal with you, and makes Guybrush in to a little child with one of the worst hangovers known to man. Walk in to the fair and talk to the Dog, Dinghy Dog and “beg” him to guess your age and weight. Once you’ve won that little game, choose the anchor as your prize. Push Dinghy Dog a few times so he will bite you and you’ll get some dog hair. Use the anchor on the fake pie and put it on the stack. Open the gate and walk near the stocks and tease the Rat so he will through a pie at you, you’ll get some meringue Get the pepper mill from the ice cream truck and order a “plain” ice cream / Snow Cone. Open your inventory and use the dog hair, meringue, Pepper and snow cone together and eat up. **************************************************** ACT SIX : Guybrush kicks butt once again! **************************************************** You are on LeChucks roller coaster of doom! Elaine has fiddled with the controls so you won’t go in the lava pits. When you want to get off at a dirarama. Get the curser near the stage near the track and jump off….simple. On the ship scene, jump off and get the keg of rum. If LeChuck comes, either wait until you get your feet set on fire, or use the pepper mill on him. Get the oil flask and stop off at the Monkey Island scene for a rope. Final stop, the ice scene. Use the rope with the oil and use the oil rope with the keg of rum. Use the keg of rum on the giant monkey. Wait for LeChuck and use the pepper on him. ==================================== 9) WALKTRHOUGH (b) Mega Monkey ==================================== ********************************************** ACT ONE : The Demise of the Zombie pirate Le Chuck ********************************************** After been caught in the battle, Guybrush finds himself locked in a room with a pirate. Pick up the paste. Ask her about how to uncurse Elaine, and Blood Island, apparently, Guybrush has to go to Blood Island and uncurse Elaine, but to do that, he needs a map, a crew and a ship! Use the glove on him, this will make Edward think you want a duel (Oh Oh!) and take you to the fields of Plunder Island. You have the choice of two guns, but whichever one you choose, you will always end up losing. Close the gun cases and there will be another case. Select it and Edward will get out two banjo's. ----------- MINI GAME : This is a game of memory : When Edward plays his Banjo, who will hit the last string, slower and longer (so you get a chance to remember it). When it is Guybrushes go, click on the string which Edward plucked last. Simple! after awhile, Edward will get mad and play the banjo in a rampage, pick up a gun and shoot the banjo. Now you have your first crew member. ----------- Go back to the barbery Coast and talk to the man the chair, Captain Rottingham. Once you get out of the chair, walk over to Cutthroat Bill and slap him several times (Hand icon on the verb coin) so he spits out the jaw breaker. and pick up the jaw breaker which is near him. Look at the chicken. Walk over to the biscuit barrel and get a biscuit, now eat it (You need to be in your inventory). This is the gross part, you will not get MAGGOTS!!! Ewww! Now use the maggots on the chicken, and swipe the Club Card from the bones. Get the Pie Pan and biscuit cutter. Talk to Captain Blond beard about everything, and go to the inventory and give him the gobstopper and some sum. When he blows a bubble, use the pin to knock the gold tooth out. Now, you cannot leave the restaurant with the gold tooth, so chew some gum and you should get the Chewed Gum. Use the golden tooth on the chewed gum. Use your remaining helium balloon to inhale some helium, now chew the gum with the gold tooth in. The bubble with the gold tooth should fly out the window, walk out of the restaurant and use the pie pan on the mud. Go back on the hill and use the biscuit cutter on the second rubber tree. Use the paste on the Rubber you just got. Exit Puerto Pollo and go to Danjer Cove (North of the map, it’s a dark area with a ship) and use the rubber on the hole in the boat, now use the boat. Take a look at the treasure map you got from the Sea Cucumber and follow the instructions. This is tricky, I had a lot of goes before I did it just right. The correct combination is this, if you spot a mistake, or if this does not work, please say so, correcting me. BOTTOM RIGHT TOP LEFT MIDDLE LEFT This was my code when doing this MIDDLE BOTTOM and I doubt that the code changes MIDDLE RIGHT on different games. TOP RIGHT TOP RIGHT MIDDLE RIGHT BOTTOM LEFT If you entered that code, you will see a “X” on the grave stone on stage, that is where Elaine is buried. Use the chicken grease you got from the chicken bucket, and use it on the cannon balls. Go on stage and use the shovel on the grave. You now have a map, a ship, three crew members and Elaine. ______________________________________________________________________________ | SHIP | DIFFICULTY | Recommended Cannons | | __NAME ______|__out of 5_____|__________________________________________________| |Captain Rottingham| 4 | Destructomatic T-47 | | Glass Bottom | 1 | Weak Cannons | |really not fearsome | 2 | Weak Cannons | | semi Fearsome | 2 | Buccaneer’s Buddy | | Midly Fearsome| 3 | Ouch-Master | | Pretty Fearsome | 3 | Ouch-Master | | Fearsome | 4 | Ouch-Master / Hole Maker Deluxe | | Really Fearsome | 4 | Mr. Massacre | |___________________________________________________________________________ _| These are the stats if you asked for help. -----______________________________________________________________________________ | SHIP | DIFFICULTY | Recommended Cannons | | __NAME ______|__out of 5_____|__________________________________________________| |Captain Rottingham| 4 | Destructomatic T-47 | | Glass Bottom | 1 | Weak Cannons | |really not fearsome | 1 | Weak Cannons | | semi Fearsome | 1 | Buccaneer’s Buddy | | Midly Fearsome| 2 | Ouch-Master | | Pretty Fearsome | 2 | Ouch-Master | | Fearsome | 2 | Ouch-Master / Hole Maker Deluxe | | Really Fearsome | 3 | Mr. Massacre | |___________________________________________________________________________ _| The insult Sword Fighting is split up in to two parts, the first is the Pirate Sword fighting, and the second is Captain Rottingham. Pick up the dog hair, and give the dog the maggoty biscuit you got from Plunder Island, so he’ll bite you. Exit the cemetery and go to the windmill. Go get some pepper from the pepper plant. Leave the windmill and go to the Hotel. Talk to the old woman, Madame Xima and speak to her about Fortune readings. She will give you 1 Death Card. Speak to her again for another card, until you have 5 Death Cards. Pick up the nail and the portrait. Use Stan’s business card on the upper left door. Enter the room. Pull the bed down and use the nails on the bed (sounds a bit…) and get the book. Use the scissors on the portrait so you get the face. Use it on the porthole and go downstairs. Get mirror and go back up. Go back in the first left room and Griswold should come up, speak to him. Go back down and talk about the family. Order a grog and use Head B Clear on it, drink it and you’ll be in the Goodsoup family crypt. Use the paste on the skeleton arm and use it on the lantern. Enter the door and examine the barrel, Use the Jar on the barrel and get the sugar water. Use the mirror you have on the lighthouse. Use the shaving cream on the pie pan to make a fake pan. Put the anchor in the pie. Push Dinghy Dog a few times so he will bite you and you’ll get some dog hair. -------------------------------------------------------------- 10) VERSION HISTORY -------------------------------------------------------------- 1.0 ) Just started it.
