Update History =================== Version .50, April 10, 2005: First version of this FAQ and submitted it. Walkthrough is halfway done up to the Forest Ghost House with 48 exits. Everything else is finished and have most of the Unlockables done. I am thinking of more to add. Version .55, April 12, 2005: Finished 5 more exits in my Walkthrough: The Blue Switch Palace, Forest of Illusion 4, and Forest Ghost House (secret exits covered in those levels). Also added a berries section in my Items section, and added a new unlockable in my Secrets section. Version .58, April 13, 2005: Finished the Forest of Illusion in my Walkthrough and got 3 exits done: Forest Secret Area, Forest Fortress and Castle #5. 56 exits out of 96 done. Version .60, April 15, 2005: Started Chocolate Island and did the first two exits, Chocolate Island 1 and the Chocolate Ghost House. 58 exits out of 96 done now. Version .64, April 16, 2005: Did 4 exits in my Walkthrough. Each exit in Chocolate Islands 2 and 3 and their secret exits as well. 62 out of 96 exits done. Also added 2 enemies I forgot about in my enemies section, the Nip Nip and Fuzzy. Version .67, April 17, 2005: Did 3 exits in my Walkthrough. The Chocolate Fortress and Chocolate Islands #4 and 5. Two more exits and I'm done with Chocolate Island. 65 out of 96 exits done. Version .70, April 19, 2005: Did 3 exits in my Walkthrough. Wendy's Castle, the Chocolate Secret and the Sunken Ghost Ship, and now I'm done with Chocolate Island and Starting the Valley of Bowser. 68 out of 96 exits done. Version .73, April 22, 2005: Did 3 exits in my Walkthrough. Valley of Bowser 1 and both secret exits in Valley of Bowser 2. 71 out of 96 exits done. Version .79, April 23, 2005: Did 5 exits in my Walkthrough. Both exits in the Valley Ghost House, Valley of Bowser 3, and both exits in Valley of Bowser 4. 76 out of 96 exits done. I am close to finishing the Valley of Bowser. Version .87, April 24, 2005: Did plenty of work in this Walkthrough. Did 8 exits. Did Castle #7, the Valley Fortress, and the first 3 levels of Star Worlds, along with their secret exits. Also did the Front and back Door for Bowser's Castle as well, which does not count as an exit. Now, the Star World and Special Worlds will be listed at the end of Bowser's Castle in this guide. 84 out of 96 exits done. Version .91, April 25, 2005: Did 4 exits in this walkthrough. Both exits in Star Worlds 4 and 5 and I am finished with Star World now, and will start the Special World next update. 88 out of 96 levels done. Version .94, April 26, 2005: Did 3 exits in this Walkthrough. The first 3 exits in the Special Worlds, which are Gnarly, Tubular, and Way Cool. 5 more exits to go now, and 91 out of 96 exits done. Version .96, April 27, 2005: Did 2 exits in my walkthrough. Awesome and Groovy. Will finish this Walkthrough tomorrow hopefully. Version 1.00, April 28, 2005: Finished this guide and have all exits done. I will add more to this guide later. Yay! Version 1.30, April 29, 2005: Added 2 new sections to this guide. An Obstacles section and an SNES/GBA Changes section, which covers many of the major changes between the SNES/GBA versions of this game. The Obstacles cover everyday things in the game. Version 1.70, May 6, 2005: Added a Mario Bros. Arcade section to this guide. I forgot all about it since it was included in the game. Version 1.80, August 15, 2005: In the Unlockables and Secrets section, I separated the Unlockables from the Sections and then gave them both their own section, so they'll be easier to navigate. On top of that, I added an unlockable about being able to replay fortresses and castles. Version 1.90, December 16, 2005: Fixed some weird sentence errors and did some other minor additions to this guide. First off, I added the map key to World 3: Vanilla Dome's ASCII map, as I just noticed there was no map key for that. I also added information about the Top Secret Area in my World 2 walkthrough, and I forgot all about that. As said, I have also fixed some spelling and grammar mistakes that made absolute no sense when I re-read this guide. Version 2.00, July 26, 2006: Added in an Asked Questions section and put in the most commonly asked question that I get from emails. =================== 2. Asked Questions =================== Question: Hey, I beat the game but I didn't clear all 96 exits. I am missing X exits and I cannot find them anywhere. Where are they and how can you help me out? Answer: To find exits you have not cleared, hit the Select button when you are on any world map. It will display the world you are in and an "M" (Mario) or an "L" (Luigi) to show who cleared that exit in the dashed blocks. If it has two blocks, it means the level has two exits. Now use Left and Right to scroll through the worlds and find which exits are still dashed without an M or an L. These are the exits you haven't cleared, so clear them and you should have all 96 exits in no time. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ============ 3. Controls ============ --------------- Basic Controls --------------- Jump: Press A for Mario or Luigi to jump in the air. You will need to jump to get across gaps, higher platforms, dodge enemies, and much more. Move: Use Left and Right on the D-Pad to move Mario/Luigi left or right. You can also duck by pressing Down on the D-Pad to dodge enemies and look up by using Up. This serves no purpose, and you cannot duck while you are small Mario/Luigi. Run: Hold B and then move left or right to run. This is needed to fly or have a higher jump in the air. You can also "run" underwater by holding B and swimming faster. Swim: While you are in the water, keep pressing A to swim higher. If you are out in open water, press nothing to float lower and you will die if you fall in a gap. Climb up Vines: Press Up to climb up vines to get to higher locations. You can also use Up to climb cages. Spin Jump: Press R to spin jump. You can do this to knock out some enemies in 1 hit and to break through those yellow bricks (the ones with two lines cutting through them). You cannot spin jump if you are small Mario/Luigi. Go down warp pipe: This will only work for pipes you can actually go down. To go down a pipe, press Down and Mario/Luigi will go down the pipe they are on top on. Go UP a Warp Pipe: Sometimes there are pipes you can get to that are hanging from the ceiling. To go up these warp pipes, jump and press and hold Up to go up the pipe. For example, you'll need to do this to get to a secret room in Donut Plains 2. Pause: To pause the game, just obviously press the start button if you didn't know that already. Switch between Mario/Luigi: On the map, you can switch between Mario and Luigi if you want to use them for certain levels. To do so, press R and then they will swap. ------------------ Advanced Controls ------------------ Spit Fireball: This can be only done if you are Fire Mario/Luigi. Press B to spit out a fireball. Fly: This can be only done if you are Caped Mario/Luigi. Get on a flat land and then run. Once you start running fast enough, jump and then fly. Carry Koopa Shells: To carry a Koopa shell around, walk up to one and hold B. You will pick it up and you can throw it by just letting go of the B button. This also can be done underwater, but if you do so you must use Up on the D-Pad to get to higher water. Punch on the cages: Press B to punch enemies on the opposite side of the fence as you are. If you hit one of the enemies on the opposite side, they will be knocked out. Kick an Item: To kick an item like a P-switch or something else like a Koopa Shell, pick it up by holding the B button. Now look up and let go of B, and Mairo/Luigi should kick it in the air. This will be needed in some of the levels. Climb a vine with an Item: To do this, pick up your item and get right next to a vine. Now kick the item up the vine and climb it. While the item is still in the air, press and hold B to grab it while you are on the vine, and keep B held until toy want to let the item go. This is useful in some levels like Gnarly. Slide: To slide down slopes, hold the down button. Now, Mario/Luigi will start sliding down the slopes and they will knock out any enemy in their path. ---------------- Flying Controls ---------------- Stay in the air: While flying, you will start to sink down. To stay up in the air and fly up slightly higher, keep tapping the Left or Right button at a steady rate. This is useful for most levels. Cape Attack: If you have a cape on (which you must have to perform any of these flying controls), you can press B for Mario/Luigi to whack his cape around. This can knock over some enemies and knock out those annoying Chargin' Chucks in one hit. Flying Earthquake: While in the air, hold B and then hold right or left (in the same direction you are flying) and Mario/Luigi will dive fast down to the ground. Once they hit the ground, a small earthquake will happen and stun or knock out any enemies on the screen. Glide: This is extremely useful in levels that have a lot of gaps. When in the air flying, let go of B to stop flying and then hold B to float down slowly. Now you can float down to where you wanted to land, and if you jump, you can still hold B to float and glide. This is a safe thing to do. ============== 4. Characters ============== Here is a list of the main characters found in the game: Mario: He is the main man of the game, the hero of the Mushroom Kingdom obviously. He is out there to rescue Princess Peach from Bowser again on his ruined vacation to Dinosaur Land traveling all the way to the other side of the island. He is pretty fast too and pretty useful. Luigi: Mario's younger brother. He also came with Mario and Princess Peach on the way to Dinosaur Land. You can also use him to play in the levels (you only need one player). He can jump higher than Mario, which is the reason why everyone prefers him over Mario. But he runs slower than Mario, so I prefer Mario over Luigi because I like someone speedy. But he can play an important role in some of the levels. Princess Peach: The Princess of the Mushroom Kingdom. After Mario and Luigi take off to explore Dinosaur Land at the beginning of the game, Bowser comes in and steals Peach and then once Mario and Luigi return, they find her missing, and thinking "Where the hell did she go"? She plays no important role in this game, just screaming "HELP!" on the screen that shows all of the levels you've played and having her face show up on a coin (who is she, George Washington on a quarter)? But she has been there in almost every Mario game, so... Bowser: The King of Koopas. In almost every Mario game he tries to capture Princess Peach and he is also Mario's arch enemy. He comes to Dinosaur Land too to come capture Princess Peach and ruin the vacation for them. Your final boss at the end of the game. Yoshi: One of the captured Dinosaurs in Dinosaur Land. Well, you actually free him for the first time in Yoshi's Island 2 (a level in the first world), and you get to ride him throw the levels. There are 4 colors of Yoshi. Each one has different abilities while putting a certain color food in his mouth. Here they are: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- **THE MANY COLORS OF YOSHI** Green Yoshi: Your standard Yoshi color. He will get a different ability if he puts a certain colored Koopa Shell in his mouth. Putting a red Koopa Shell in his mouth will you him the ability to spit out 3 fireballs, turning most enemies into coins of they hit him. Putting a Yellow Shell into his mouth causes an small earthquake to happen every time you have Yoshi jump and touch the ground. This can stun and knock out any enemy nearby. If you have a Blue Shell in his mouth, he can fly in the air until he swallows the shell! If you are caped Mario, he will fly much more effectively. Red Yoshi: Red Yoshi is found in Star World 1 and 4 as a baby Yoshi. To make him into a big Yoshi, feed him 5 objects. This also counts true for Yellow and Blue Yoshi. If a Red Yoshi puts any colored shell in his mouth, he will be able to spit out fire no matter what, turning enemies into coins! He isn't that useful if you are in a level with lots of Red Koopas. He will get the same effects for a Yellow and Blue Shell too, as he can still be able to fly and pound the ground. Yellow Yoshi: Yellow Yoshi is found in Star World 3 and 5. The special ability a Yellow Yoshi gets is that putting any colored Koopa Shell into his mouth will cause a small earthquake to happen. This can only stun and knock out enemies if they are very close to you, so this earthquake isn't powerful (probably a 1.1 on the Richter scale). Yellow Yoshi is just like the other Yoshis and just isn't useful at all. Blue Yoshi: My favorite Yoshi (even though I hate the color blue). Eating any type of shell will make Yoshi grow wings and be able to fly in the air! Keep tapping A to have him fly and if you are not Caped Mario/Luigi, he will have a hard time flying, but he will fly much more effectively if you have a Cape on. He is useful for getting past areas with large gaps and if you use him correctly you can get past the level Tubular in the Special World. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ========= 5. Items ========= Many of the items in this game are found in blocks that have a "?" scrolling across them. Some will contain coins and some will contain power ups. I have divided items into certain sections to find them easier. ------ Coins ------ Coin: These are scattered all around the levels. They can be floating in the air or on the ground. Collecting 100 gives you a 1-up and these can also be found when you knock out certain enemies with a fireball. Also, these are found in huge groups in the yellow switch palace. Yoshi Coins: In the GameBoy Advance version of this game, Nintendo has now added 5 Yoshi Coins to every level in this game. Collecting all 5 will give you a 1-up, and if you collect all 5 coins in all of the 71 levels, a cut scene will happen and now the Yoshi Coins will turn into Peach Coins. These are the same thing, but they just give you a 1-up and nothing will happen if you collect all of them. ---------- Power Ups ---------- These are power ups to help Mario and Luigi throughout the game. Mushroom: When Mario picks up one of these (if he is little Mario/Luigi), then his size will double. Now he will be able to spin jump and duck, but he will gain no other powers. If Mario/Luigi gets hit while he is big Mario/Luigi, he will go back to small Mario/Luigi. If you get it again, you lose a life. Fire Flower: If you pick up one of these, you will be upgraded to Fire Mario/Luigi. You will now be able to shoot out fireballs by pressing the B button. Most enemies are turned into coins if they get hit with one of the fireballs you shoot out. Useful for most of the levels with a lot of enemies and useful on water levels too. Feather: When you pick up one of these, you will be upgraded to Caped Mario/Luigi. You will now have the ability to fly in the air when you jump while running, and you can stay in the air by keep tapping Left at a steady rate. This is a really useful item for areas with long gaps and such and you can also glide to the air slowly to land in a safe spot. You can also whack enemies with your cape and most can be knocked out in 1 hit. 1-up Mushroom: These are green mushrooms. When you pick up one of these, you will get an extra life. You can have up to 999 lives maximum. Each time you die you will lose a life. Once your lives hit 0 (it shouldn't in this game because there's so many locations to get a 1-up), you get a game over. You will now start the game at where you last saved (yes, you can save at levels in this game), so be sure to save often if you're new to this game. Invincibility Star: When you pick up one of these, you will become Invincible for a short period of time. Mario/Luigi will now be surrounded in stars and they can knock out almost any enemy in what hit. If you knock out a lot of enemies in a row your score will start getting higher and you will start receiving plenty of 1-ups. Just because you're invincible doesn't mean you're invincible from everything. You can still be crushed by moving platforms and you can still die by falling in gaps. Moon Crescents: These are rare items found in the game, resting in secret areas on high platforms sometimes. When you find one of these and pick it up, you will gain 3 extra lives! These are really useful items and pick them up if you can, especially if you are new to this game. Roulette Block: You will find these mostly in the later levels. These are clear blocks where you will see each of the 4 main items (Mushroom, Fire Flower, Cape, Invincibility Star), appear on the block in that order. When you hit it, it will pop out as the next item (so hitting it when it shows a Fire Flower means it will be a Cape by the time you can get it). Try to get the item you really want and time it right, so if you want a Fire Flower, hit the block when the Mushroom appears, and then get the Fire Flower before it turns into a Feather. These are really useful, so try to get the item you want. ---------- Obstacles ---------- "?" Blocks: You will see these all across the levels. When you hit them, a coin, Yoshi, or a power up will come out, so try to hit these if you can. In many of the levels, one of the first few blocks is always a power up. Power Balloon: Once you hit this out of a "?" block, it will float around in the air, and when you touch it Mario/Luigi will become balloon shaped. They can now float in the air like a balloon so you can control them to get to higher platforms. After a while they will return to normal size and fall back down to the ground. This may be needed to get past the level Tubular. Purple Grab Blocks: These are Purple Blocks. You can pick these up and throw them at enemies or to get into a secret opening. They will diminish if you hold them for a long time though, and you'll need these to get past Star World 3. You can feed a Baby Yoshi with this too to make him grow up. Trampoline: This is another item you can also pick up. You can get on it and bounce on it to get to higher platforms. To bounce higher, press A when you push the spring all the way down, and you should be sent higher into the air. You can pick these up to get them to different areas for getting to different locations, and these will be important in some levels. Key: These are found in levels that have a red dot on them on the map. If you see a key, a keyhole is nearby so you can grab the key and push it in the keyhole to get to a different exit of the map and to a secret level. Sometimes, you will need keys to get to the main exit of the level, as some are fake (but they still count as one of the 96 exits). Bonus Blocks: These are green Blocks with a white star on them. If you hit them, you get a single coin. Big deal. But if you grab at least 30 coins in the level they are in before hitting this, a 1-up Mushroom will come out, so grab these because they serve little purpose and they are not that useful. Speaker Block: These are blue blocks with a red circle on them in the air. If you hit one of these, a message will come out giving you hints or something else. If you are new to this game, it is recommended you hit these for hints on how to pass something or something else. These are found a lot in the early levels. P-Switch: These are blue switches with a white P on them. You can carry these around to solve a puzzle in a level better. Hitting them turns any coins into brown indestructible blocks and vice versa, so you can get past blocks. These are needed to get into hidden areas and to get to hidden exits, and these can be useful if you use them correctly. -------- Berries -------- Berries come in 3 different colors. They are found on bushes and only Yoshi can eat them. He will eat them automatically if you get right next to them, otherwise you can use his tongue to grab them. Red Berries: These are found in many levels with bushes, such as Yoshi's Island 2 or Forest of Illusion 2. If your Yoshi eats 10 of these, an egg will pop out with an item. The item you get depends on what color Yoshi you have. If you have a Green Yoshi, it is a Mushroom. If you have a Red Yoshi, it will be a Fire Flower. If you have a Blue Yoshi, it will be a Feather. If you have a Yellow Yoshi, it will be an Invincibility star. Get which one you want. Pink Berries: These are more rare then the red berries. If your Yoshi eats two of these, a cloud will come out and throw coins at you. If you collect all of the coins before it goes away, it will throw a 1-up Mushroom at you. Otherwise, you fail and gives you nothing. Green Berries: These are only found in one level: Funky, but these are extremely needed because you only start the level with 200 seconds there. For each Berry your Yoshi eats, it will add 20 seconds to your timer! Get these whenever you can and enter the level with a Yoshi, you will highly need these. ============= 6. Obstacles ============= Here are a list of other types of obstacles you can find in the game. This also includes stuff at the top of the screen. Platforms: You can find these moving up or down or moving left or right. Get on them to get to a different area. Halfway Mark: When you hit one of these, you will end up here if you lose a life. But remember that if you die, you lose all Yoshi Coins you collect, so watch out. So, I usually don't hit them, and if you are in a castle or a level that has a door and you can't go back, you'll have to play the level again if you want all Yoshi Coins. Exit Pole: These are found at the end of every level except for castles and fortresses. Now, you can hit these anywhere and you'll wind up with 1 stupid coin for beating the level. But you see that bar sliding up and down the pole? If you hit it, you get bonus coins. The higher it is when you hit it, the more bonus points you'll get. Once you reach 100, you will get to play a bonus game. Pipes: These comes in lots of colors. Silver, green, blue, yellow, orange...well, you get the point. Some of these pipes may be moving around and you can find these in many of the levels. They may be sticking out of the wall, hanging from the ceiling, or sticking out of the ground. Some warp pipes may take you to secret places, so press Up, Down, Left or Right depending on the direction they are sticking out of. Some even lead to secret exits. Time: When the timer starts, you usually start a level off with 300 or 400 seconds to beat it (you start off with 200 on the level Funky). If the timer hits 0 before you finish it, you lose a life, so be quick. There is no way of increasing the timer except for one way: eating a green berry adds 20 seconds, but this can only be done in 1 level. The higher your time, the higher your bonus for beating a level. Score: This shows how many points you have collected throughout the game. Collecting coins, knocking out enemies, clearing levels, etc gives you extra points. They really don't mean anything but collecting 1 million puts a pretty start on the game select screen. Also, you can get a higher score by stomping on a number of enemies in a row without touching the ground. ******************************************************************************* BONUS GAMES There are two types of bonus games out there. One where you can get for each 100 bonus points you get when clearing levels, and the other one can be found in hidden areas when entering a pipe. Here they are: Bonus Game #1: After collecting 100 bonus points, you will be sent to a little room. There are a total of 9 blocks and 8 of them are spinning around it. The block in the middle will show either a Mushroom/Fire Flower/Star, and so will the others when you hit them. The point is to match 3 in a row of the same item (diagonal, up/down, and across), and once you hit all 8, the matches will be found and you get a 1-up for each match you get. Bonus Game #2: In warp pipes, it may take you to a room with 3 "?" blocks on each platform. If you hit two "?" blocks on the same platform and they're both coins, the third one will be a 1-up. If you get nothing, the other blocks will go brown. You have plenty of chances with 1-ups. Once you're done there will be a pipe at the top of the room. ******************************************************************************* =============== 7. Walkthrough =============== Now, here is the story of the game: One day, Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach decide to go take a vacation at Dinosaur Land in their little air balloon. Sounds fun (yeah right) and once they drop off Mario and Luigi fly off to explore Dinosaur Land, seeing many of the enemies you will encounter in the game. But when they return to the air balloon they find Princess Peach missing. Looks like somebody is at it again... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTES ON THESE WALKTHROUGHS: These are very important notes to navigate this easier. 1. If a level has more than one exit to it, I will list the alternate exit in between two rows of exclamation points. If you don't want to take the secret exits, just avoid any walkthroughs in between exclamation points. 2. Now, if a world has secret exits, I will list any levels accessed from a secret exit AFTER the castle of that world to break up some confusion. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <><><><><><><><><><><><><> World 1: Yoshi's Island <><><><><><><><><><><><><> To Donut Plains | To Yellow Switch Palace C1 | \ | ___YH____ 4 | / \ 3___/ | / \ | | / \ | 1_________/ \________2 Map Key: 1 = Yoshi's Island 1 2 = Yoshi's Island 2 3 = Yoshi's Island 3 4 = Yoshi's Island 4 YH = Yoshi's House C1 = Castle #1 So, let's start the game heading left onto Yoshi's Island 1 (you can go right to Yoshi's Island 2, but let's start from the first level to get to the Yellow Switch Palace). ----------------- Yoshi's Island 1 ----------------- This level always annoyed me when I was a kid. When you start the level, head right and you will get to a Koopa out of it's shell slide down a slanted platform. Get on the slanted platform and get the Yoshi Coin in the air. Now get back down to the ground below you, and head right. A giant bullet bill will come shooting at you, so duck to avoid it. Head right past the Rex enemies until you get to a floating block. Hit it and a Mushroom will come out, so grab it. Continue right until you get to a slanted pipe and climb up it. At the top, head right and you will get to 3 slanted platforms. At the end of the third one is a Yoshi Coin in the air, so grab it. Now fall back down to the ground and as you continue right to a yellow pipe, a Mushroom will pop out of the bushes. Collect it even if you are big because it will come out of the item box if you get it. Now jump over the yellow pipe and dodge the Piranha Plant. From here, you will get to a blue pipe with two blocks above it. Spin Dash if you are big to get rid of them and then head down the pipe. Down here, head right and avoid the Mushroom. You will see a Yoshi Coin under the yellow blocks so spin jump to get to it and then grab it. Now head right and go through the green pipe. You'll be blasted out of a warp pipe and you will hit the mark on the half way pole if you don't press anything. From the half way pole, continue right and you will come to a large group of Rexs and platforms. Use the platforms to get to the Yoshi Coin above you. Once you grab it, get rid of the Rex and slide down the platform. At the bottom, jump over the Giant Bullet Bill and continue right until you see a Red Koopa Shell. Pick it up and kick it at the yellow block above you. If it hits it, a 1-up Mushroom will appear and slide onto the cloud. On the edge of the cloud it will fall to the ground, so grab it. Now head all the way right until you get to a green pipe, avoiding all of the Rexes, huge Bullet Bills, and everything. Once you get to the green pipe, jump over it and grab the final Yoshi Coin for a 1-up. Now, head right, dodge the Chargin Chuck and hit the exit pole. Now, you can hit that moving bar for bonus points. If you reach 100 you get a bonus game (it adds up each time). Beating this level opens up the path north to the Yellow Switch Palace. I highly recommend you go up there before continuing. --------------------- Yellow Switch Palace --------------------- Time for some fun. Once the level starts, hit the P-Switch. This will cause coins to appear in every space of this room. Run, collecting all of the coins you can get possible by jumping up and down. Once you get to the other side of the room, get on the higher platform up there. You should get at least 3 1-ups at best. Once the timer runs out, head right and enter the green pipe. Continue all the way right until you get to a Giant Yellow "!" switch. This will cause any dotted yellow blocks to become solid "!" yellow blocks so you can walk over them. If you hit them from beneath, a mushroom will come out, so these will be useful. Now you will be asked to save your game. Do it. You can save anytime by pressing Start on the map though. Continuing our Yoshi's Island journey, head south back into the Island. Head right from Yoshi's Island 1, passing Yoshi's House, and into Yoshi's Island 2. ----------------- Yoshi's Island 2 ----------------- Once you start the level, head right and you will get to a Red Koopa Shell. Pick it up and jump on the platform above you holding the shell. Now throw the shell at the long row of Koopas and you will get a 1-up if you knock out all Koopas. Now get back on the ground below you and head right until you see a yellow "!" block. Hit the bottom of it for a mushroom and continue right to a set of 2 blocks. Hit the second block and Yoshi will pop out saying Bowser captured him and his Koopa kids captured the Yoshi Eggs. Hop on his back. To control Yoshi, use the B button to stick his tongue out and D-Pad to move. From where you are, continue right until you get to a Yoshi Coin. Grab it and jump over the Koopa. Now continue right and you will see another Yoshi coin, so grab it. Now head right up the stairs of platforms until you get to the edge of this platform. Once you get to the edge of the platform, grab the Yoshi Coin in the air and fall to the ground below you. Down here, head right and hit the mark on the halfway pole. Now continue right to a set of 3 blocks. Hit the middle one for a Yoshi. If you already have a Yoshi, it will be a 1-up Mushroom, so grab it. Now, head right and grab onto the higher platform above you. On here, get to the edge of the platform and you will get to two yellow blocks. You will need to jump off of Yoshi by pressing the R button. Now hit the right block and a vine will pop out. You can't climb a vine riding Yoshi, sorry. At the top, grab the Yoshi Coin at the end of the cloud. Now fall down to the left again and get back on Yoshi. From where you left Yoshi, get back on him and you will get to another platform. Get on it and grab the final Yoshi Coin for a 1-up. From here, head all the way right until you get to the exit pole, jumping over every pipe you see. Once you get to the exit pole, try hitting the tape for bonus points. Now, we will head north to the next level. ----------------- Yoshi's Island 3 ----------------- Once you start the level, jump on all of the platforms above you until you get to the highest platform. Now hop onto the platform to the right. On here, hop onto the platform on the right. On here, get to the edge of the platform and it will rotate to the right so you will see another platform, so get on it. On here, break the yellow "!" block for a Mushroom if you need it. Now head right and use the opening and closing platforms to get on the next green platform. Get the Yoshi Coin next to the green platform and then get on the edge of this platform to rotate it to the next platform, so get on it. On here, hit the second block for a Yoshi/1-up. Now, get on the sliding platform to the right and use it to get to the next sliding platform. On here, use this platform to get on the platform to your right. On here, fall in the gap to your right and you should land on or next to a yellow pipe. Go down the yellow pipe. Down here, hit the P-Switch to turn the coins into brown blocks. Now, use the brown blocks to get to the other end of the lava pit before time runs out. At the end of the lava pit, collect the Yoshi Coin and enter the green pipe to the right. Back out here, head all the way right until you get to the halfway mark. Hit the post on it and then collect the Yoshi Coin to the right of it. From here, head right and get on top of the yellow blocks. On here, get rid of the Koopa and get on the platform above you. On here, use the moving platform to get on the platform above you. On here, use the platform to the right to get on a platform of yellow blocks opening and closing. On here, use the opening and closing yellow blocks to get onto a green platform, and collect the Ace Coin you will get to. If you fall, you should land on "!" blocks if you beat the Yellow Switch Palace. Once you get to the green platform, use the next platform to get on the next green one. On here, use these two platforms ahead of you to get to another platform. Get the final Yoshi Coin for a 1-up too. Once you get the Yoshi Coin and on the platform, head right and hit the exit pole. Now, we head northeast to a water level. ----------------- Yoshi's Island 4 ----------------- Yay, the first water level. Well, kind of. Once the level starts, hit the yellow "!" block for a Mushroom. Now, get on the platform in the water and grab the Yoshi Coin. Now, jump onto the platform to the right. On here, hit the "?" block for a Fire Flower. Now, get the Yoshi Coin in the air to the right. From here, hop from platform to platform in the water until you get to a blue pipe. Once you get to a blue pipe, ignore it and keep hopping across more platforms until you get to a big platform. Also get the Yoshi Coin you will see. On here, hit the yellow block with the Koopa Shell by kicking it (or Yoshi should jump high enough) to make the P-switch fall down. Once it hits the ground, hit it to turn the coins into brown blocks and vice versa. Now, hit the next yellow block for a star and head right across the bridge of brown blocks, grabbing the Yoshi Coin. Now head all the way right running into all of the enemies until you get to a Yoshi Coin, hopping from platform to platform. Once you get to the final platform, hop from platform to platform again until you get to a green pipe. Once you get to a green pipe, enter it. In this area, hit the exit pole and try to hit the mark for extra bonus points. Now, our trip in Yoshi's Island heads northwest towards Iggy's castle where one of Yoshi's Eggs are being held. ------------------------- Castle #1: Iggy's Castle ------------------------- Welcome to the first castle of the game. It's quite fun too. First, start the level by hopping to the fence above your head. To climb onto it, press Up. Now, if there is a Koopa on the same side of the fence you are, hit his head with your feet to knock it out. If he is on the opposite side, punch him off using B. Anyway, go all the way right until you get to a new fence. Jump off the one you're on and get onto the one to the right. On here, go right until you see a Yoshi Coin. Once you see it, grab it. Now, staying on the fence, go all the way right following this fence path across a lava pit until you get to a blue square in the fence. Get in the middle of it, and press B. It will flip you to the opposite side of the fence. From here, go back left and grab the second Yoshi Coin that is on this side of the fence. Once you get it, head right and jump over the small lava pit. On this platform, climb the fence and enter the blue square to the right, and now you will be on the other side of the fence. From here, get the Yoshi Coin on this side of the fence to the left. Now, go all the way right to the edge of the fence, and hop back on the ground. On here, head right, hit the half way mark, and enter the door. In here you will be in a room that scrolls from left to right, so be quick. Also watch out for the crushing ceilings. Now, head right and you will get to a Yoshi Coin in the air, so grab it. Now, in this small floor gap, duck in it if the crushing ceiling comes down so you won't be hit. Once the scrolling screen comes more right, head right and hit the flying "?" block for a Mushroom/Fire Flower. Now continue right, jump over the gap, and now head right to another gap. Above it is a Yoshi Coin, so grab it for a 1-up for collecting all 5. Now, watch out for the crushing ceiling, and enter the big red door to the right. *********************** Boss Fight: Iggy Koopa Difficulty: 2/5 *********************** This boss may be tough if you are new to this game. First, you are fighting Iggy Koopa on a see-saw. To the left and right of it is a lava pit. To win, you must knock Iggy Koopa into the lava. When you enter the room, he will be on the right side of the see-saw. Now, when the see-saw tips to the fight, hop on him hard and it should knock him to the edge. Before the see-saw tips to the left completely, hit him again into the lava pit and you should win. If you can't do it, try to keep him at the edge of the see-saw at all time. Beating Iggy Koopa and rescuing the Yoshi Egg, a ladder will open up to the exposed Donut Plains. 6 more Yoshi Eggs and one more Princess to kidnap. <><><><><><><><><><><><> World 2: Donut Plains <><><><><><><><><><><><> TSA To Vanilla Dome | | __DGH-----3-- | / . \4__C2 | . ^ GSP--2 DS1. < Pipe | . \ \ . Star Road = Leads to the southwest corner of Star World --------------- Donut Plains 1 --------------- THERE ARE TWO EXITS HERE. I WILL COVER BOTH OF THEM. I recommend hopping off Yoshi before starting the level. You won't need him a lot. First, when you start, hop off Yoshi if you have him and head right. You will get to a Super Koopa on a red cape. If you see one with a red cape, hit it and a feather will pop out. So hit the red caped Super Koopa for a feather, so grab it. Now, get on the highest platform near you and you should see a Yoshi Coin, so grab it. From here, head right and you will get to a Chargin' Chuck throwing baseballs at you. Dodge them as best as you can and head right until you stop all the way at a wall. Once you stop at a wall, get on the ground above you. On here, there should be a fire spitting plant next to you. Whack it with your cape and head right to the edge of the platform. Now jump onto the higher platform. On here, grab the Yoshi Coin at the edge of the platform and drop down to the ground below you. Down here, jump over the gap and head right, and you will stop at a silver warp pipe. Jump over it and dodge the Chargin' Chuck throwing baseballs. Head right to the half way post and hit it, and then jump over the gap to the right of it. Head right to two Blue pipes and watch out for the Mushroom popping out of the bush (don't get it if you have a Fire Flower or feather as your extra items). Now, jump over the blue pipes and jump over the gap. Now get on the higher ground to the right with the fire spitting plant. Knock it out if you can and get on the higher ground to the right. On here is a "?" block. Ignore it and fall in the pit with two Chargin' Chucks throwing baseballs. Knock out both of them and now head left and stop at the wall. Above you are 4 yellow blocks. Hit the one on the right and a vine will come out. Climb it to the top. At the top, get on the cloud to the right and collect the Yoshi Coin at the edge of the cloud. Now, fall back into the pit to the right and get out of it to the right. On here, knock out the fire spitting plant if you can and grab the Yoshi Coin above you. Now, head right and you will get to a Chargin' Chuck on yellow blocks. Hit the block below it to knock it out. Head right and knock out all the Super Koopas you see (knock the red one for a feather, but you don't want them in your way). Now head right and grab the final Yoshi Coin for a 1-up next to the pipe. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SECRET EXIT Right now you have a chance to get the secret exit if you are Caped Mario Luigi. If you don't want to go to the secret exit or if you aren't caped, do not use this Walkthrough in the exclamation marks. Now, to get to the secret exit, get on the left edge of then highest platform. Now, run all the way right to the edge of this platform. Once you get to the right edge, jump off and you should be flying. Now, you may hit a set of stones under a green pipe. If you do, press left the second you hear the sound of hitting the stone. Mario/Luigi should float up and land on a yellow platform. Now, head right and get onto the higher yellow platform. On here, jump over the yellow pipe and get the key. Now, pick it up and shove it in the keyhole. This exit will take us north into a body of water. For the Walkthrough for this level, it will be listed after Castle #2 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now, use the higher platforms to jump over the green pipe. Now, head right, dodging all of the enemies until you get to the exit pole. Once you see it, hit it. Now, we will head west to our first auto scrolling level. --------------- Donut Plains 2 --------------- Welcome to the first auto-scrolling level, and this one is quite tough. When you start the level, head right until you get to a yellow moving floor, dodging all of the enemies. Once you get to the yellow moving floor, get the Yoshi Coin above you and wait until it reveals an opening to the right, and then go through. In here, hit the "?" block for the Mushroom/Cape. Once the crushing ceiling is out of the way, head right. Now, you will be in a large room with moving floors and pipes on the ceilings. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SECRET EXIT This is one of the most important secret exits in the game. After the yellow crushing ceiling, you will be in a large room with pipes on the ceilings and moving yellow floors. Now, about halfway through the room, you will notice a big and a small green pipe on the ceiling. Get on the moving floor below the small pipe and enter it by jumping and press Up. Now you should be in a secret room. In here, head right and jump over the gap, and then get on the other side of this platform. On this side head right and you will see a Blue Shell under 3 yellow blocks. Spin jump to get rid of the yellow blocks but don't hit the shell. Now, pick up the shell and head left. You will see a "staircase" of yellow blocks. See the highest one on the right? Get beneath it and kick the Koopa Shell up at it. Once you hit it, a vine should pop out. Use the yellow blocks to get to the vine and climb it. At the top is a key. Take it and shove it in the keyhole. This secret exit will take you west to the Green Switch Palace, a really important area. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now, if you think secret exits are for wussies, don't use any walkthroughs in between a row of exclamation points. Now, where were we? Oh yeah, if you don't want to take the secret exit, start from this large room again. Now, there are pipes on the ceilings. To the right of the small green one is a Yoshi Coin. Grab it and continue right until you get to a small opening, and then go through it. In here, get the Yoshi coin you will see along the way, and hit the floating "?" block for a Feather/Mushroom. Now, head right until you stop at a very large yellow moving platform. To the left of it is a Yoshi Coin, so grab it in the air. Now, the trick is to get across this without being killed, so here's your best shot. Wait until the platform drops and then get on it. On here, the scrolling will slow down so don't worry. Now, get to the edge of the platform, and then once you get to it, jump over the gap and collect the Yoshi Coin, and then you should get a 1-up for collecting all 5. From here, head all the way right until you get to a pipe, watching out for the Spike Tops. Once you get to a pipe, enter it. Out here, hit the exit pole to the right. Now we will head northeast towards our first Ghost House. ------------------ Donut Ghost House ------------------ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SECRET EXIT Yes, there already is a chance to get to the secret exit in this level, but you must be Caped Mario/Luigi. First, head all the way right to a gap once you start the level. Once you get to a gap, run all the way back to the left past the speaker box. Now, before you hit a dead end, fly up in the air and you will see a hidden platform to the right. While in the air, try to land on the platform you see. Once you land on it, head all the way right until you get to a large gap. Once you get to a gap, fall down it. Down here, try to avoid the Boos. There are 4 blocks and a door. Hit each block and grab the 1-up Mushroom that comes out of each of them, and then enter the door. In here, hit the secret exit pole. This secret exit will take you north to the Top Secret Area, one of the best places in the game. I'll talk about this level at the end of this World in the walkthrough. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Welcome to the first Ghost House of the game. Don't worry, the Boos here shouldn't bother you too much. Once you start the level, head right and jump from platform to platform until you get to a door. On your way to the door, grab the Yoshi Coin you will come across. Once you have the Yoshi Coin, head right and open the door. In here, head right up the stairs and you will get to a door at the top, so open it and go through. In here, you will be right beneath the door you just entered. Now grab the Yoshi Coin to the left and hit the yellow block for a P-Switch. Get on the platform and head left grabbing onto the P-Switch, and head down the stairs with it. Down here, hit the P- Switch and a blue door will pop up on the platform above you, so enter it. In here, you will see a Bonus Block, a "?" block, and a Speaker Block. Get on top of the green Bonus Block and get the Yoshi Coin above you. Now, hit the "?" block and a tail of coins will come out. Now, use the D-Pad to control where they go, and they'll stop once they bump into something, so you can get a lot of coins. Now leave this room. Out here, head right up the stairs and open the door again. If another Yoshi Coin isn't to your left, get back on the platform above you again, and then re-enter the door. The Yoshi Coin should now be there, so grab it. Now, hit the yellow block and a vine should come out this time. Get back on the platform and climb it to the top and you will get to a platform. Grab the Yoshi Coin to the left and you should get a 1-up for collecting all 5. Now enter the door, and hit the exit pole. Now, the bank to the right of the Ghost House will clear out to a river and a bridge will be deployed to the other side of the map, so cross the bridge east to the next level. --------------- Donut Plains 3 --------------- Once you start the level, head right and you will get to a trio of spinning platforms. Use them to get onto the platform to the right of them. On here, hop on the next two platforms and you will see a platform spinning on a black wire. Use it to get to another trio of spinning platforms. On one of the platforms is a Yoshi Coin so grab it. Now get on the platform to the right. On here, hop from platform to platform until you see a bridge of yellow blocks. Underneath the yellow blocks is a platform to hit the yellow blocks. Spin jump on the middle blocks to get to the platform. Or if you're small Mario/Luigi, use the platforms to get underneath them. Once you get underneath the yellow blocks, hit the one on the right and a vine will pop out. Climb the vine to a cloud and then get on it. On here, head right to the edge of the cloud, grabbing the Yoshi Coin you'll see. Now, drop down from the cloud to the right. Down here, head right and you will see a platform moving on an octagon shaped figure. Hop on the platform and hit the "On" button so it's off, and then part of the octagon figure will form a new path. Ride this platform along the wire until you get to another "Off" switch. Hit it so it says on and you won't take the wire path to a gap and die. Follow this path to the edge of the wire and grab the Yoshi Coin at the end. Now, get on the platform below you and hit the half way pole to the right. Now get on the moving platform on the wire to the right, and watch out for the Fuzzy. Now, get on the trio of platforms to the right, and hit the "?" block for a Mushroom/Feather. Now, jump on the platform to the right. On here, ride this platform to a yellow pipe, grabbing the Yoshi Coin you see. Once you get to the pipe, fall on the platform below you instead of going it in. Down here, head right and you will get to a trio of spinning platforms. Hop on it and use it to get on the trio of spinning platforms to the right. On here, grab the Yoshi Coin on one of the spinning platforms and you should get a 1-up for collecting all 5. Now hop on the platform to the right. On here, hop on the trio of spinning platforms and use it to get on the platform to the right. Ride this platform until you get to an exit pole. Once you get to an exit pole, hit it. Now we will head east to the next level. --------------- Donut Plains 4 --------------- Once you start the level, head right and jump on top of the green pipe you will come to. When you get on it, get on the higher platform to the right. On here, collect the Yoshi Coin and then hop on the ground below you. Down here, head right and you will get to an area of pipes moving up and down. Hop from pipe to pipe dodging all of the Koopas until you get to a silver pipe. Once you get to it, head right and you see a Hammer Bro on a platform. Hit the Hammer Bro beneath the platform it's on to get rid of it. Now, hop on the platform it was on and use it to get on the higher platform to the right. On here, head right and you will get to a Yoshi Coin in the air. Grab it and jump down the blue pipe to the right. Down here, head right and use the Koopas as platforms to get to a green pipe. Also get the Yoshi Coin in the air. Once you have it, enter the green pipe at the end of this room. Now you will be shot back outside next to the halfway pole. Hit it and continue right. Now, head right until you get to a "?" block. Hit it and a Yoshi will pop out. Get on it and grab the Yoshi Coin in the pit to the right. Now, head right some more dodging all of the Goombas and you will get to a random item block. Wait until a feather appears and then hit the block. It should turn into a star in the air, so grab the star. Being invincible, head right and knock the hammer bro off its platform, and run all the way right until you get to another platform with a Hammer Bro on it. On your way, collect the final Yoshi Coin for a 1-up and knock the Hammer Bro off the platform. Get on it and use it to hit the exit pole. Now, finishing all 4 normal levels of this world, we will head east on the map towards the second castle. --------------------------- Castle #2: Morton's Castle --------------------------- Once you start the level, head right and you will get to an escalator, and dodge the Thimps and ball 'n' chains. Head up the escalator and get the Yoshi Coin about 3/4 up the way. Once you have the Yoshi Coin, get to the top and enter the door. In here, head left and dodge the two Thwomps you will see. Once you get past the second one, jump over the lava pit, and head left up the stairs. You will see another Thwomp. Get close to it so it will come down and once it hits the ground, jump into the opening it came out of and grab the Yoshi Coin. Now head left to the top of the stairs and enter the door. In here, hit the halfway mark and use wait for the platforms to slide out of the wall to the right. Once you see them slide out, get on the higher platform to the right. On here, wait for the platform to slide out to the left and hop on it. Now, get on the sliding platform to the right and get on top of the "?" blocks. On the blocks, wait for a wall to slide out on the right and use it to get on the platform to the left. On here, you will see a Yoshi Coin slide with a platform on the left, so grab it. Use the sliding platforms on the left to get on the small square-shaped platform above you. On here, wait for a sliding platform to pop out from the right and use it to get on the platform above you. On here, use the spring to bounce through the opening above you when the sliding platforms move right on the opening. Once they do, bounce up onto the platform on the right. On here, wait for the sliding platforms to pop out from the left and climb up them. You will get to a bridge of 5 yellow blocks. Hit the second one on the right and a vine will pop out. Now jump on any other one and while it's spinning, jump through it to get on top of the yellow blocks. On here, climb the vine to a platform. On here, jump in the middle of the platform and you should hit a hidden block containing a 1-up Mushroom. Now wait a few seconds and a Yoshi Coin should pop out of the wall to the left, so grab it. From here, climb the vine back down to the yellow blocks. On here, get on the higher platforms on the right. Now, use the small gray stones to get to a small opening on the ceiling, and don't have the sliding platforms on the right crush you. Once you get to the small opening, jump through it and get on a platform. On here, get on the platform above you. On here, get on top of one of the "?" blocks and use it to get on a platform above you. On here, use the sliding platforms on the right to get to an area of sliding spies and pillars. Hop from pillar to pillar and get on the second one to the left. Now, get the Yoshi Coin popping out from the left in mid-air for a 1-up, and wait for a sliding platform to come out from the left. Use it to get on the platform above you, and enter the boss door. ***************************** Boss Fight: Morton Koopa Jr. Difficulty: 1.5/5 ***************************** This guy is PATHETIC. Well, the fight starts by two pillars closing down for Morton. Once that happens, hit him on the head before he climbs up the wall (if you miss, he should already be on the wall). Now, hit him once more before he climbs up the wall and onto the ceiling and try to crush right down on you, but it's fairly easy dodging him. If he does that, dodging him is easy. When he comes down, hit him once or twice to defeat him. It only takes 3 hits to get rid of him. Now watch Mario kick the castle down. Now, the door north of us will open into the Vanilla Dome, the island east of us will form. But before we go, let's go back to those secret levels we missed. -------------------- Green Switch Palace -------------------- This is the switch palace west of Donut Plains too, but you don't have the potential for many 1-ups like the Yellow Switch Palace. Once you start the level, jump over the Red Koopa Shell on the brown block and hit the P-Switch. The brown block will turn into a coin and fall down next to a Koopa. Instead of jumping in the shell, the Koopa will kick it to the other Koopas, so run all the way right so you can see the shell knock out the Koopas. If it knocks out enough you will get a 1-up. Now, head right and enter the pipe. In here, head all the way right to the Green "!" switch and hit it. Now all the green dots will turn into green "!" blocks, and hitting them will have a cape come out. Sweet. --------------- Donut Secret 1 --------------- Welcome to the first water level of the game, north of Donut Plains 1. Once you start the level, swim all the way right until you get to a low opening. Head in it and swim up into the opening on the right. In here, head right and you will see a sleeping fish on a "?" block. Swim under the "?" block and it will wake the fish up. Hit the block the fish is swimming over and you might knock it out. One of the blocks contains a Mushroom/Fire Flower, so grab it (the Fire Flower will be really useful). Now, grab the Yoshi Coin above the blocks and head right and you will see a purple pipe above you, so enter it. In here, hit the "?" block on the right and a P-Balloon will pop out. Grab it and now you will be able to float like a balloon. Now get to the left part of this room and float all the way up until you see a "?" block above a platform. Hit it while you are floating and another P-Balloon will pop out. Grab it to reset the balloon's timer and float all the way up until get to the top of the room. At the top is a Yoshi Coin to the left and one to the right. Grab both of them. By this time your balloon should be fading a way, so grab them before it's too late. Now once it runs out, you will fall down to the ground, and watch out for the Koopas. Now head right and enter the pipe. Back in the water, fall in the pit to your right and grab the Yoshi Coin. Now get out of the pit and head right and you will get to a Yoshi Coin in between two purple blocks. Wake the fish up next to the block and lure him out. Now, grab one of the blocks and throw it out of the way. Then grab the Yoshi Coin and you will get a 1-up if you got the two in the P-Balloon room (don't worry, there are two more coins in this area). Now, hit the halfway mark and head right to a P-switch. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SECRET EXIT Once you get to the P-switch, pick it up and take it all the way right through all of the openings until you get to a set of brown blocks. Also, get the Yoshi Coin you will see for another 1-up/4th coin. Once you get to the brown blocks, hit the P-switch and then they will turn into coins. Now, hit the "?" block the blocks were blocking and a key will come out. Pick it up and shove it in the keyhole to the right. This will take you southeast to the Secret Ghost House. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now, once you get to the key, ignore it if you don't want to take the secret exit. Now, head right through all of the openings until you get to a set of brown blocks, dodging all of the fish and grabbing the Yoshi coin for an extra 1-up/fourth coin. Once you get to the set of brown blocks, head right and swim up the opening you will get to. Up here, swim right over the platform and you may get another Yoshi Coin for a third 1-up/5th coin. Now, head right through the next opening and hit the exit poll. This will lead to a shortcut north to take you to the Donut Ghost House. But for now, head to the Donut Secret House. ------------------- Donut Secret House ------------------- This is a Secret Ghost House. It has two exits leading to Star Road, a world you can get from other Worlds too using the stars. Once you start the level, head right to the stop of the stairs. At the top, drop down to the platform below the platform below you, dodging the Boos circling around. Also get the Yoshi Coin to the left. Once you get it, continue right and you will get to a P-switch and a Big Boo. The Big Boo won't attack if you look at it. Take the P- switch and hit it and a trampoline will come down. Use it to bounce over the big boo. Now head up the sets of stairs and you will get to a door. Once you get to it, open it. In here, hit the "?" block for a Mushroom/Fire Flower, and continue left towards an opening of circling boos. Get past them and go through the two openings. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SECRET EXIT The secret exit is on a platform above you. From the circling boos, head all the way left, jumping over the yellow blocks until you get to a platform that has a P-Switch on it. Run and jump to get on the platform, and then pick up the P-Switch. Now, take it right to the set of yellow blocks and hit it. 3 "?" blocks will appear above the gap so you won't fall in. Get on top of the middle block and hit the yellow block in the middle. A vine will come in. At the top, head right and you will get to a blue door, so enter it before the P-Switch music stops. BOSS: Big Boo Difficulty: 2/5 This boss isn't as hard as you think. When the fight starts, face away from Big Boo so he will come to attack you. Now pick up a blue block on the floor and kick it in the air when Big Boo is coming towards you. If you hit him, wait for him to reappear and chuck two more blocks at him to win. Now we will heads south to the open star. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! From the circling boos, head all the way left, jumping over blocks and gaps until you see a platform with a P-Switch on it. Run and jump to get on the platform if you're Mario. Now, pick up the P-switch and take them back to the yellow blocks. Now, hit the P-Switch and 3 "?" blocks will appear. Hop on them and now you can enter the door that was in the air. In here, head left and you will get to a door and a Yoshi Coin. Grab the Yoshi Coin and enter the door. In here, hit the block for a 1-up Mushroom and a Yoshi Coin. Now, get on the platform above you and enter the door. Back in here, hit the "?" block for another Mushroom/Fire Flower and continue all the way left past the circling boos and get on the platform where the P- Switch is. To the left wall, use these platforms to get higher and higher until you get to the top of the room. At the top of the room is a Yoshi Coin, so grab it. Now, take the P-Switch again back to the yellow blocks. Hit it to make the "?" blocks appear. Get on the middle one and hit the block above you and a vine will pop out. Now, run all the way right and you will get to an opening leading to a Yoshi Coin. On the opening is a coin, grab it before it turns into a block. But the opening is too small for Big Mario/Luigi to go through. So, run to the opening and duck while running and you should slip under it. Get the final Yoshi Coin for a 1-up. Now, head back left and drop down to the floor below you. Down here, the P- Switch will already be used, so you'll need to leave and enter this room again to make it come back. Once you do that, pick up the P-switch and take it right past the yellow blocks. See that platform with coins forming a door on it? Before hitting the P-Switch, get all the coins so they won't turn into blocks. Now, hit the P-Switch and a blue door will pop up where the coins were. Enter it. In here, hit the exit pole. Now, a new path will open to the pipe east, leading to the Donut Secret 2. --------------- Donut Secret 2 --------------- Now, to get to this level, enter the pipe east of the Donut Secret House or south of Donut Plains 3. This is in the northwest corner of Valley of Bowser for some odd reason. Also watch out because this whole level is very slippery. Anyway, when you start the level, head right until you see a platform above you. Hop on it. On here, grab the Yoshi Coin above you, and continue right and you will get to a trampoline. Use it to hit the block above you and a vine will pop out. Now, move the trampoline so you can bounce to the vine, and then climb up it. At the top, hit the yellow block for an Invincibility star and grab the Yoshi Coin. Now, drop back down to the ground below you. Down here, jump over and gap and run right until you stop at a pillar. Get the Yoshi Coin next to it and use the platform to get on the other side of the pillar. On this side, head right until you get to a gap, grabbing the Yoshi Coin you see (wow, 4 Yoshi Coins already). Once you get to a gap, jump over it. Now head all the way right until you get to a pillar. Use the pillars to get on the highest one, and then slide down the slope. At the bottom, jump across the 3 pipes and watch out for the Piranha Plants jumping out. Beware of the Nip Nips to the sides and they will hurt you if you touch them. At the other side of the pipes, head right and you will see the final Yoshi Coin. Grab it for a 1-up and jump over the gap to the right. Now, head right until you get to another gap. Jump over it onto the slanted platform. On here, jump onto the platform to the right. Now you will see flying Koopas in a vertical row. Hit the top one and then hold right. You will hit all the Koopas for a 1-up. Now, holding right you should go through the opening to the right without falling in the gap. Head right and hit the exit pole. Now, head east to the new pipe and follow it back to Donut Plains 3. ---------------- Top Secret Area ---------------- The Top Secret area can be accessed by taking the secret exit in Donut Ghost House. It leads to a small little area with 5 "?" blocks. The middle one contains a Yoshi. The ones on the left contain Mushrooms/Fire Flowers, and the ones on the right contain Feathers (you must be at least Big Mario to get the Feathers). Also, the Yoshi color you get depends on the status you are in, and you also need to unlock them from Star World too. This area is also on a time limit for an odd reason, but just leave by going off the screen (there was no time limit in the SNES version). But you can re-visit this place anytime you want, and you'll be depending on it a lot in the later levels. Well, that's all the levels in Donut Plains. Head north of Castle #2 into World 3, the Vanilla Dome. <><><><><><><><><><><><> World 3: Vanilla Dome <><><><><><><><><><><><> Vanilla Dome Map Pipe (to upper twin bridges) | | VGH----- | | \ SR--VS1 2.. 3 | | \ | \--1--/ RSP 4 | | | C3 | <--/ Pipe (to Twin Bridges) | To Donut Plains Map Key: 1: Vanilla Dome 1 2: Vanilla Dome 2 3: Vanilla Dome 3 4: Vanilla Dome 4 C3: Castle #3 VGH: Vanilla Ghost House RSP: Red Switch Palace Pipe: Pipes (both lead to different areas of the Twin Bridges) VS1: Vanilla Secret 1 SR: Star Road (Leads to northwest part of Star World) --------------- Vanilla Dome 1 --------------- Once you start the level, head right down the stairs. Down here, head right and jump on the higher platform, avoiding the Spike Tops. Now hit the floating "?" block for a Mushroom/Fire Flower. Then head right and get on the lower ground to the right. Down here, head right and you will get to a huge set of huge blocks. Here's what to do: 1. Get on the highest platform of yellow blocks where the Red Koopa Shell is. 2. From here, go all the way to a red pipe. On the yellow block platform below you is a Yoshi Coin. 3. Being at least big Mario/Luigi, spin jump to break the block and to get the platform the Yoshi Coin is on. Grab it. 4. From here, work your way back out of this mess to the beginning of all these yellow blocks. 5. Get to the Blue Koopa Shell and pick it up. Now, get to the lowest ground and kick it. It will go across the floor, knocking out all the Buzzy Beetles. 6. Since they are all gone, head all the way right until you stop at a yellow block. Now, get on top of the floor above you and get on top of the yellow blocks. Yay, thank god we're out of there. From here, head right and jump over the gap. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SECRET EXIT Since you haven't beaten the Red Switch Palace yet, you're going to need Yoshi. Go get him from the Top Secret Area and come back to this same spot. Now, hold up and press L. The screen should push up and you should see a yellow block. Jump and press R to jump out of Yoshi and hit the block since it is too high, and then a vine will pop out. Now, get back in Yoshi, jump, hit R again and get on the vine. Climb it to the secret platform, take the key and shove it in the keyhole. You will now head west to a secret level. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now, jump over the next few gaps and past the flying Red Koopa, and then enter the pipe. In here, head left and you will get to a yellow block. Break it open for an Invincibility Star and hop on the yellow platform. It will start sinking to the lava, so run like hell to the end of it knocking out anything in your way. At the end, jump in the air for the Yoshi Coin and enter the pipe. In here, head right and hit the halfway mark on the platform, and then drop down to the floor below you. Down here, head right and you will get to two yellow blocks. Break one open and use the other one to get on the platform above you. On here, head right and you will get to a very small opening - too big for big Mario/Luigi to enter. So if you're not small, run and then duck when you get to it, and you should go under. Staying ducked, keep jumping and holding right until you get to the Blue Block. Now, press B to get rid of it without letting go of any other button. Now, keep jumping right while staying ducked and you will get to a small room with a Yoshi Coin. Grab it and head right, and you will get to another small opening. Get rid of the Buzzy Beetle and use the same strategy listed above to get out of it, and then drop down to the ground below you. Down here, break open the "?" block for a Mushroom/Fire Flower and head right. Now, jump from pipe to pipe until you get to a platform. Also get the Yoshi Coin in the air between the orange and green pipes. Now, head right and up the steep slope. At the top, head right and you will get to three different levels of platforms. Get on the lowest one and you will get to a Green Koopa Shell. Get it out of the way and get to the blue block. Since the area isn't big enough to jump over it, kick it out of the way pressing B. Now, you will get to an opening being blocked by one brown block, so you can't get in it unless you're small. So get to it by ducking when running, and get the Yoshi Coin. You'll now get a 1-up for getting all 5. Now, leave the small opening. Above you are two yellow blocks. Break one and use the other to get on the platform above you. On here, get rid of the Blue Koopa Shell and head right. Now, jump over the gap, the Chargin' Chucks, and hit the exit pole. Now we will head east to a water level. --------------- Vanilla Dome 2 --------------- You start the level falling into a small pond. Get out of it and head right. Now, head up the slope. At the top, fall into the water. Swim your way right until you get to a wall, and then once you stop at a wall, a yellow block should be above you. Jump out of the water and hit it, and then a vine will pop out of it, so climb it. At the top, get on the platform to the right. On here, head right, dodging all of the Buzy Beetles until you get to a set of water. Now, get the Yoshi Coin in mid-air and then fall in the water. Down here, swim right and you will get to three blocks. The right one has a Mushroom/Cape, so grab it. Continue swimming right and you will get to another "?" block. Get on it and use it as a platform. On here, grab the Yoshi Coin above you and head on the left platform. Continue left and you will get to a P-Switch on brown blocks. Pick it up and move it on the platform to the left of the brown blocks, but don't hit it. Now, head back right and get on the right platform and climb up the steep slope. At the top, a Chargin' Chuck will charge through the yellow blocks, breaking them all for you so continue right. You will get to a halfway pole, so hit it and another Chargin' Chuck will break through the yellow blocks, so jump over it and go into the new opening. Now, you will get to a roulette block. Get whatever item you want out of it, but remember to hit the item that comes before it when hitting the block. Now, head right and head down the slope. You will get to a Yoshi Coin, so grab it. Now, you will see a P-Switch on the brown blocks, so hit it to turn them into coins. Remember that other P-Switch? Getting it off the brown blocks made sure it wouldn't fall through the coins and into the gap. Now, head right and collect the coins, and continue right until you see a Yoshi Coin on the platform, so grab it. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IMPORTANT AND SECRET EXIT Now, the only way to get the last Yoshi Coin is to fall in a pit leading to a secret exit. Now, to get the final Yoshi Coin and to lead to the secret exit, remember where the first P-switch you didn't hit was? Go all the way back to it, and it should not be on the brown blocks because you should've moved it. Once you get to it, hit it and the brown blocks forming a wall on the left will turn into coins. Now, jump over the first gap and fall in the second. Down here, get the key on the platform and grab the final Yoshi Coin for a 1-up. Now, head in the water and shove the key in the keyhole. You will go southeast towards the Red Switch Palace. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or, if you will grab all 5 Yoshi Coins later, continue right until you get to the exit pole because it isn't too far from here, just remember to dodge all of the enemies. Another reason you may not want to take the secret exit is because you may be low at times now. Once you get to the exit pole, hit it. You will head north to the Ghost House. -------------------- Vanilla Ghost House -------------------- When you start the level, head right and you will get to a set of circling boos. Get past them and grab the Yoshi Coin. Now continue right and you will get to a series of platforms. Hop from each one and you will see a Yoshi Coin on the way, so grab it. Now, you will get to a large series of yellow blocks and a Big Boo. Trick Big Boo into following you to get him out of the way. Now, below the yellow blocks is a normal platform. Get on it and get to the edge of the platform. From the edge of the gap, hit the 4th block on the left and a vine will come out, so climb up it. At the top, get on the platform to the right. On here, head right until you get to a small gap in the platform, collecting the Yoshi Coin in the way. Once you get that and once you get to the gap, fall down it. Down here, you should touch the halfway mark. Now head right down the stairs and you will get to a set of circling boos. Get past them and get the Yoshi Coin in the air. After that, dodge the boos and head right to the door. Open it and go through. In here is an annoying room with green floating bubbles that hurt you if you touch them. You can spin jump on them and they won't hurt you. Now head right, hopping from platform to platform until you get to 3 yellow blocks. Hit the middle one and a P-Switch will come out. Now, pick it up and hop across the gap to the right. Now, take it right to the end of the room, grabbing the final Yoshi coin for a 1-up. You should get to coins forming the shape of the door. Collect all of them and hit the P-Switch. The door will now form where the coins used to be, so enter it and go through. In here, hit the exit pole. You will head east towards the next level. --------------- Vanilla Dome 3 --------------- This is a boring level where you ride on a sliding platform for most of the level. When you start the level, head right down the stairs and head on the platform made of skulls. Get on it and ride it across the lava. Now, here's the thing. When you see a eyes in the lava, the dragon will attack you in a few seconds, so watch out. Now, ride this platform until you get to a normal platform, and then hop on it. On here, hit the "?" block for a Mushroom/Fire Flower, and then use the pipes as platforms to get on the platform above you. On here, head down the slope and grab the Yoshi Coin at the bottom. Now get on the white platform and ride it across the lava until you get to another normal platform, dodging all of the enemies you see in the lava. Once you get to the normal platform, get on it. On here, head right and you will get to a tall, orange pipe. Get right next to it and jump. You should hit an invisible block, so use that as a platform and now jump in the gap between the two large pipes. Hit the "?" block for a Mushroom/Feather, and use the block to get out of the pit, and jump over the pipe to the right. Now continue right to another white platform. Get on it and ride it across the lava until you see brown blocks. Once you see the brown blocks, get on them. On here, get the Yoshi Coin and head right until get to ANOTHER white platform, dodging all of the Piranha Plants coming out of the pipes. Once you get to the white platform, touch it and it will move. Now get on the platform above you because the opening in the lava is too small. Head right to the edge of the platform and when you see the sliding white platform come, get on it. On here, ride the platform until you see a yellow pipe. Once you see it, get on it and head down it. Down here, you will be on a slippery floor. Head right and hop from platform to platform until you get to a blue pipe, also grabbing the Yoshi Coin that you see. Once you have the Yoshi Coin and you get to the blue pipe, enter it. Back out here, run up the pipe and then jump over the second one. Now, continue right to another white platform in the lava, and ride it until you see a platform in the air, dodging all of the enemies in your way. Once you see it, wait for the sliding platform to become beneath you and jump off to get on it to the right, getting the Yoshi Coin as well. Now ride the thing until you get to another platform, so hop on it. Now, head right, jumping across all of the pipes and hopping from platform to platform until you get to another Yoshi Coin. Grab it and you will get a 1-up for collecting all 5. Now, jump over more gaps and head right to another white platform. Get on it and ride it until you see a higher platform. Walk across it dodging all of the Piranha Plants, and make sure the platform doesn't go off the screen in the lava. At the edge of the platform you're on, wait for the sliding platform to come and then get on it. Now, ride this until you get to the exit pole, and then hit it. Well, that was boring. Now we get to go south towards the next annoying level. --------------- Vanilla Dome 4 --------------- This level is annoying if you suck at dodging. Once you start the level, drop down to the ground below you. Down here, get the Yoshi Coin and hop on the green spring above you. Hop on it to get on the pillar above you, and then hop on the platform to the right. Beware, Bullet Bills will be shooting across the screen, so watch out. On here, head right and hop across the next 4 green pillars until you get onto a green platform. On here, hop on the platform to the right (not the one with 3 coins). On here, head right and use all of the green springs until you stop at a tall pillar. Also get the Yoshi Coin you see. Once you do that and get to a tall pillar, get to the edge of the green spring and bounce really high to get on it. On here, hit the "?" block in the air to the right for a Mushroom/Feather. Now, head right and use the green spring to hop over the pillar and onto a green platform. On here, hop from platform to platform and you will get to green springs. Use them to get on the platform above you. On here, head right and hit the halfway mark, and then drop down to the ground below you. Down here, head right from pillar to pillar until you get to a blue pipe. Once you get to a blue pipe, head down it. Down here, get on the white sliding platform and ride it to the end of the room across the lava, jumping over the brown blocks when necessary and grabbing the Yoshi Coin too. Once you get to the end of the room (and have the Yoshi Coin), enter the green pipe and you'll be back outside. Out here, head right hopping across the platforms until you see a Yoshi Coin in between two pillars. Get it and use the springs to get out of the pit. Now, continue right, hopping from pillar to pillar and grabbing the final Yoshi Coin for a 1-up. Continue right after that and you will get to the exit pole, so hit it. We will head south to the castle. -------------------------- Castle #3: Lemmy's Castle -------------------------- This castle is pretty annoying. Once you start the level, you will be on a bridge of yellow blocks. There is also a bridge of yellow blocks below you, and spin jumping through them will have you go through lava. So, walk around and wait for a Magikoopa to pop out. It will send a magic blast at you, missing and breaking one of the blocks, so you can get to the bridge below you. Down here, head all the way right until you get to a "?" block, and then hit it for a Mushroom/Feather. Now, head right in the water until you see a P-Switch on a yellow block. Grab it and head right until you see a floating door with coins beneath it like this: O D O OOOOO The D is the door and the Os are the coins surrounding it. GET THE COINS ON THE SIDE AND DON'T GET THE ONES BENEATH THE DOOR. Also, put the P-Switch on the platform to the right when you do this. Once you get rid of the side coins, hit the P-Switch and the rest of them will turn to brown blocks, so get on them, open the door and go through. In here, hit the halfway mark and head right. You will get to a yellow block with a 1-up Mushroom, so grab it and enter the door to the right. In here, head right to a lava pit that has a moving platform in it and it moves in the lava. Get on the middle part and wait for the platform edges to come out of the lava. On the left edge is a Yoshi Coin, so grab it, get on the middle part of the platform, and then hop on the platform to the right. On here, head right and hop across the platforms and you will get to a crushing ceiling. Get past it and hop on the platform to your right. On here, the platform on the right moves up and down into the lava. When it is out of the lava, hop in it. You will see an opening above you leading to a platform. Get on it, because that part won't go in the lava. Now, wait for the platform to rise. See that Yoshi Coin in the pit? When the platform is rising, jump in it. Don't worry, there is a solid platform beneath it you can't see well. Now get on the platform to the right before you hit the lava. On here, you will see two platforms in the lava rising and a Yoshi Coin in the air. Get it and get on one of the platforms, and hop on the platform to the right. On here, hop on the platform to the right when the crushing ceiling isn't down, and then hop in the opening with the feather. Grab it and wait for the ceiling to rise. Now, head right and you will get to a "staircase" of platforms in the lava. The lowest one on the right has a Yoshi Coin, so wait for it to pop out of the lava and grab the coin. Now, get on the platform to the right and hop all the way right until you get to the red boss door, using all of the moving platforms possible. Now, head back left. You will see the final Yoshi Coin rising from the lava, and a small alcove to the left. Grab the Yoshi Coin and then get in the small alcove. Before it falls into the lava, hold right and jump, and you should get out of it without falling into the lava. Now head right, open the red boss door and go through. Also hit the green "!" block for a cape. ************************* Boss Fight: Lemmy Koopa Difficulty: 3/5 ************************* Many people find this boss really annoying, and so do I. When the fight starts, you'll be on a row of pipes. Now, dodge the flame moving around and watch the pipes. Two blue fake Koopas and a yellow one will pop out. The yellow one is Lemmy, so don't hit the other Koopas. Also, he is the one making weird dance moves. When he comes out of the pipe, hit him if you're up close, otherwise, you may be too late to hit him if you're far away. Hit the yellow one each time it comes out of a random pipe three times, and then you will win. He will fall in the lava, Mario beats the castle with a sledge hammer, and you go southwest to a pipe. But before we do that let's go to the secret levels in Vanilla Dome and the Red Switch Palace too. ------------------ Red Switch Palace ------------------ This is southeast of Vanilla Dome too. This is an annoying Switch Palace, and getting the 1-up here is annoying and useless. But if you want to do it anyway, here's the trick. At the start of the level, let the Koopa jump into the yellow shell and now it will try to attack you. Hit the P-Switch to turn the coins above you into brown blocks, and use them as protection. The Koopa will follow you anywhere, so have it follow you right and it will knock out all the Koopas in the way, giving you the 1-up. Once the P-Switch timer is out, enter the pipe to the right. Now, head right and hit the giant red switch. This will make all red dotted squares into red "!" blocks, and hitting them gives you nothing. But you'll need them as platforms. ----------------- Vanilla Secret 1 ----------------- This is the secret exit accessed from Vanilla Dome 1. Once you start the level, use the platforms above you to get on the small square shaped platform. Once you get on it, hit the "?" block to your left for a Mushroom/Feather. Now get back on the platform you were just on. Above you is a green spring. Use it to get on the platform to your right. On here, get the Yoshi Coin on the platform to the right below you. Now, get on the green horizontal pipe above you. On here, hit the middle yellow block and a vine will pop out. Climb it. Near the top, get the Yoshi Coin to the right and then get on the platform to the left. On here, hit the yellow block and another vine will pop out. On here, climb it and get on the platform to the left. Now head left and jump over the gap to get on the platform. On here, fall down the pit below you. Down here, get the Yoshi Coin, and then use the three green springs to get back on the platform above you. Now, jump over the gap and get back on the platform to the right. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SECRET EXIT You can only get the secret exit if you are Caped Mario/Luigi. Also this means missing the last two Yoshi Coins. To get to the secret exit, get on the long platform to the left of the vine you just recently climbed. Get to the right edge of the platform and run left. Just when you are on the left edge of this platform, jump and you should have enough speed to fly. Now, in the air, you should see a small platform with a pipe. Try to get on it, otherwise try again. Once you get on it, enter the pipe. In here, get on the platform above you, head right, dodge the Chargin' Chuck, and hit the exit pole. This will take you west to the Star Road which will be covered much later. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! Now, on this large platform, get on the platform above you. On here, you will see an opening above you and a large row of Koopas, but there is a small hole between them. Now, use the trampoline to get through once the opening is line up with the hole, and then get on the platform to the right. On here, pick up the trampoline and carry it left. Take it left and use the platforms to get on a small rectangular platform in the air. Place it and bounce on it. Now, in the air get the Yoshi Coin, and then pick up the trampoline again. Jump onto the large platform on the right and place it here. Bounce on it and get the final Yoshi Coin in the air for a 1-up. Now, get back on the ground below you. Down here, head left and use the platforms to get to a set of green springs. Use them to get on the platform above you. On here, head right and enter the green pipe. In here, head right and hit the exit pole. Now we will head north to a pipe. Enter it if you want more secret levels. ----------------- Vanilla Secret 2 ----------------- This is an annoying left with tons of Koopas. Once you start the level, get rid of the two Koopas on the platform you're only if you are Caped Mario/Luigi. Now, run right and fly in the air. You should see a large cloud, so land on it. On here, head right and jump on the cloud next to you. On here, get the Yoshi Coin and then drop down to the ground to your left. This is the annoying part. Down here, head left and hit the "?" block for a Yoshi. He can be very important. Now, head right until you get to a green "!" block, dodging every Koopa. Once you see it, have Yoshi put a Koopa shell in his mouth and then spit it out. It should hit the "!" block and a Feather will come out, so grab it. Now, head all the way right until you get to a slope, dodging all of the Koopas and grabbing the Yoshi Coin. Once you get to a slope, head up it. At the top, jump over the purple pipe and get the Yoshi Coin in the air. Now, head right and hit the halfway mark, and then use this slope to get on the platform above you. On here, head down the slope and continue right. Watch out bombs will start dropping from the sky. From here, continue right up the slanted pipe. Now, head right until you get to a huge pit of Spinies, collecting the Yoshi Coin you will also come across. Once you get to the spiny pit, hit the second block to the left and a P-Switch will come out. Hit it and the Spinies will turn into Silver Coins. Collect all for 3 1-ups and then head all the way right until you get to another green slanted pipe. To the right of it is a vertical green pipe. Enter it. In here, hit the P-Switch to turn the coins into brown blocks and vice versa. Use the brown blocks as a bridge to get across. At the end, grab the final Yoshi Coin for a 1-up and then enter the orange pipe. You will be blasted into the air from the green slanted pipe near the exit pole, so touch it, ignoring all enemies. We will head east towards another secret. ----------------- Vanilla Secret 3 ----------------- A fun level to ride the backs of dolphins. Whee! Once you start the level, head right and use the jumping dolphins in the water as platforms. Now, they will bounce right, so use them to get on the higher of two platforms. On here, hit the "?" block for a Mushroom/Feather, and drop down to the platform below you. Down here, grab the Yoshi Coin and then use the dolphins in the water to the right as platforms to get to the next platform of land. On here, get the Yoshi Coin and head right. Use the dolphins to get to the halfway mark which is far from here. Once you get to it, hit it and then use the jumping dolphins to get on the platform above you. On here, head right and use all of the jumping dolphins until you get to a warp pipe. On the way, you will see coins forming the shape of an arrow. In between one of them is a Yoshi Coin. Grab it and get all the other coins from 1-ups. Now, continue right until you get to a pipe and you will get to the final Yoshi Coin. Grab it for a 1-up and enter the pipe. In here, grab the Yoshi Coin above your head for another 1-up and then hit the exit pole to the right. We will head east to the fortress. ----------------- Vanilla Fortress ----------------- Shouldn't this fortress be made of Vanilla, not water? It is annoying. Once you start the level, swim all the way right until you get to a floor made of spikes. Wait for the fish to pass by and then cross the pit of spikes. On this side, swim right and hit the "?" block. A Mushroom/Feather will come out, so grab it. Now, head right and you will be in a room where the ceiling is made up of spikes. Dodge the falling ones and get out of this room. Also grab the Yoshi Coin you will get to. Once you do that and get to the end of the room, enter the blue pipe. In here, swim right and you will get to a Yoshi Coin, so grab it. Now swim left and you will get to another Yoshi Coin. Grab this one and watch out for the falling Thwomp. Now, swim all the way left until you get to a "?" block. Hit it for a Mushroom/Feather and them swim through the opening above you. Up here, hit the halfway mark and swim all the way right and you will get to a Yoshi Coin. Grab it and then fall in the gap to your right. Down here, swim right and you will get to a Yoshi Coin. Grab it for a 1-up and swim right to the red boss door, and then enter it. **************** Boss: The Renzo Difficulty: 3/5 **************** This boss is in every single fortress, so get used to it. Now, the trick is to do this: there are 4 Renzos, and each of them is on their own platform. To knock one off, hit them underneath the platform they are on and they will fall into the lava. Once you knock two off, the platform you're on will start to break down, so get on one of the platforms one of the Renzos used to be on. When the platform you're on is underneath a platform a Renzo is on, hit it. Now, to get the final one, get on the rotating platform underneath the last Renzo, and then hit them into the lava. The castle will blow up, and a bridge will be created to your east. When you first start the level, hit the "?" block to the right for a Mushroom/Cape. Now, you will get to three platforms. Touch each of them to make them all move. There is a middle one, bottom, and top. Once you have all 3 platforms moving, get on the bottom one, ride it all the way right until you get to a Yoshi Coin. Once you get to one, grab it, and right after that, get on the top platform. On here, ride this platform until you get to another Yoshi Coin. Once you get to it, grab it and then take the bottom platform. Get on it and ride it until you get to the third Yoshi Coin. Now, get it and get back on the top platform. On here, ride it to the edge of the wire and then hit the halfway mark in the air. On this platform made of logs, head right and you will get to a "?" block. If you hit it, wings will come out. These can only be grabbed if you have Yoshi, but grabbing them is really recommended. You will get sent to this heaven but full of Fuzzy enemies. Here, there are 5 Yoshi Coins so you can get 2 to have at least 5 collected and an additional 1-up for each one. If you fall in the gap, you will win the level. Otherwise, if you don't have Yoshi, head right and jump from platform to platform until you get to a "?" block. Hit it for a Mushroom/Feather and continue to hop from platform to platform until you get to a yellow pipe, grabbing the Yoshi Coin you should get to. Once you get to it, head past it and you will get to a long pole. Press up to get to the top of it and you will take a ride down the wire. On here, ride it until it gets to the end of the wire and grab the Yoshi Coin at the end for a 1-up, dodging all of the saws. At the end, hit the exit pole. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SECRET EXIT This can only be done if you are Caped Mario/Luigi and have a Yoshi. Now, hanging onto Yoshi, get all the way to the near end of the level. If you hit a saw with Yoshi, he will bounce right off, so use these as platforms. Get to the last platform just before the exit pole. Now, you can notice you can go right underneath the exit pole. Now, jump in the gap, glide and hold right, and just when you are about to die (well, once you are under the exit pole to the right), press R to jump off of Yoshi and get on the platform. You should now be to the right of the exit pole. Head right and you will get to a moon giving you 3 1-ups, and another exit pole. Hit this for the secret exit. You will go south to the water. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ---------------- Cookie Mountain ---------------- Yum, Cookie Mountain. More like violent mountain to me. Once the level starts, head right and jump over the gap. On here, head right under the Sumo Bro, and then jump over the next gap. Now on top of the second slanted platform is a Yoshi Coin. Grab it and then use the slanted platforms to get on the platform to the right. On here, head right and use these platforms to get to the ground below you. Down here, head right and jump over the gap. From here, head right and jump over the blue pipe. Now this part is tricky. Get the Yoshi Coin in the air. The Sumo Brothers are smashing the music blocks, causing fire to the ground. Get the Yoshi Coin, dodge the fire, and then head right to the halfway mark. Once you get to the halfway mark, hit it. Now head right and you will get to 4 yellow blocks. Hit the second one to the right and a vine will come out. Climb it to the top. At the top, get on the platform to the left. Hit the yellow block and a 1-up Mushroom will come out, so grab it. Now, grab the Yoshi Coin to the right of the vine and then drop back down to the ground below you. Down here, jump over the blue pipe to the right and you will get to a "?" block. You can only hit it if you beat the Red Switch Palace because red blocks are underneath it. Hit it if you can and a Yoshi will pop out. Grab it and head right. You should see a Yoshi Coin on top of the platform, so grab it. Now continue right and if you have Yoshi, grab the next two pink berries and a cloud will come out. It will throw out coins in the air, so follow it and try to collect all of them. If you do collect all of them, he will throw a 1-up Mushroom, so grab it. If you don't have Yoshi, head right and you will get to a Yoshi Coin. Grab it for the final 1-up and continue all the way right until you get to a tall blue pipe. Jump over it and hit the exit pole. We will head east up a ladder to Castle 4. Wow, these normal levels were quick... --------------------------- Castle #4: Ludwig's Castle --------------------------- Once you start the level, head all the way right until you get to a door, working your way through all of the ball 'n' chains. Remember to duck and run when you have the chance. Once you get to a door, open it and go through. In here, head down the stairs to the left and head left until you get to a switch that says "ON", grabbing the Yoshi Coin you see. Once you get to it, hit it and the spiked ceiling will rise. Now get the Yoshi Coin to the left and hit the switch again. The spikes will come down but hit the switch again so you get a fresh start. Now, this is the part that matters with the spiked ceiling. Head left and jump from platform to platform, and then RUN LIKE HELL LEFT UNTIL YOU GET TO A DOOR BEFORE YOU GET CRUSHED. Once you get to it, open it and go through. In here, head right and hit the halfway mark. Now go back up to the fence. Remember these from the first castle? Jump and press up to get on them. Now, climb up and stay to the right until you see an opening. Go in it and hit the "?" block for a Mushroom/Feather. Now get back on the fence and climb up it. You will see a fence separated from the one above you. Jump to get to it and press Up to stay. On here, jump onto the fence above you and press Up to climb onto it. On here, get in the blue square and press B. You will be on the other side of the fence, so get the Yoshi Coin on this side. Now, get to the right part of this fence. You will see a square fence to your right. Jump onto it and try to dodge the Koopas. Get on it. On here, hop on another fence to your right. Climb each fence down until you get to a Yoshi Coin. Grab it without touching the spikes and then use these square fences to get onto a big one. On here, follow this fence left to another fence, and then get onto it. On this fence, climb it up and you will see the final Yoshi Coin. Grab it for the 1-up and get on the fence to the left of where it was. On here, climb the fence upward and you will get to the platform with the big red door. On here, head right and open the door. ****************************** Boss Fight: Ludwig Von Koopa Difficulty: 2.5/5 ****************************** This is just like Morton Koopa, except a tad harder. This time, two pillars don't come down on the right. Instead, Ludwig Von Koopa spits out 4 fireballs, so hit him on the head before he spits 4. After you hit him or if he spits out 4 fireballs, he will spin around in his shell and bounce in the air and try to land on you, and repeat this process again. Hit him 3 times to win, and that should stop this composer (nice hair) from composing enough mayhem in the Twin Bridges. Mario will attack the castle with a plunger and it will rocket off into the air, and land on the tree in the back, giving it a band-aid. Ow, poor thing. Now, we will head down the southeast ladder into the Forest of Illusion. But let's finish the rest of the levels here. ---------------- Butter Bridge 1 ---------------- This is the first level on the bridge to the north, and it's quite annoying too. Once the level starts, head right. You will get to rows of pillars. If you step on one, it will lower and the one to your right will raise. Now, hop from pillar to pillar, also grabbing the Yoshi Coin until you see a Red Koopa in between a pillar Now, bounce off of it while holding B and get on the bridge, also collecting the second Yoshi Coin. Now, get on the pillar to the right and get the Yoshi Coin in between them. On the second pillar, there will be a large row of Green Flying Koopas to your right. If you hit all of them at least once without touching the ground, you get a 1-up. Get on the bridge and cross it until you get to more pillars. Hop across the first two ones. On the third, stay on it to lower it and make the second one go higher, but not high enough that you can't get it. Now, get on the higher pillar and use it to get on one of the two pillars to the right. On here, stay on the left one. Since this level auto-scrolls it will scroll downward. This will push the pillar down so you can see better. Also get the Yoshi Coin in your way. Once you do that and see more pillars, use the two to get on a platform to the right. On here, head right and you will get to sets of yellow blocks. Get on the highest platform of all of them by jumping at 1 each block and going through them. At the top one, get on the pillar to the right. Use it to get on a platform and grab the final Yoshi Coin for a 1-up. Now, get on the lower platform to the right and enter the pipe. In here, jump over the gap and hit the exit pole. Another dot will form on the bridge. ---------------- Butter Bridge 2 ---------------- This is quite possibly the most annoying level of all time. It's best to come here as Caped Mario/Luigi. Once the level starts, head right and you will get to a Super Koopa with a red cape. Hit it and grab the feather that appears. On this long bridge, get back to the beginning of the level and run right. At the edge of the bridge, fly off and fly right until you see a platform cloud. Get on it and get the Yoshi Coin, and then drop down to the left. Down here, head right and you will see Super Koopas swarming. Hop on one and grab the Yoshi Coin to the right while in the air, and drop back down to the bridge below you. Down here, cross the bridge to the right and you will get to the most annoying part of the game. On the higher, smaller platforms above you, Koopas not in their shells will be kicking their shells at you, so dodge all of them. Continue right until you see a Yoshi Coin in the air next to a wooden bridge. Once you see it, run + jump to get it and you should get it with just enough air. Now cross over the gap to the bridge on the right. On here, head right and you will get to a halfway pole. Hit it and now Super Koopas will really swarm. Now, head right and hit the green "!" block for a much needed Feather. Once you get that, head right and skip the first pipe you see, and then enter the second blue pipe. Down here, get on the pole above you instead of riding the platform you're on and ride it to the end of the room. During your ride, you will see a Yoshi Coin, so grab it. Once you do that and get to the end of the room, enter the pipe. Back out here, head all the way right hoping from bridge to bridge, dodging all of these Super Koopa swarms. Now, head right and you will see a Yoshi Coin in between two bridges. MAKE SURE YOU ARE CAPED MARIO/LUIGI. Once you see the Yoshi Coin, float in the gap and hit the top of it and get on the platform to the left. You should be able to get the final Yoshi Coin safely for a 1-up. From here, continue right, jumping from platform to platform and you will get to the exit pole. Hit it and you are finally done with this annoying level. Now, the next level is south of Cheese Bridge Area. ---------- Soda Lake ---------- This level sucks if you are bad at dodging, so try to dodge all of the torpedos being dodged at you, and bringing a Fire Flower in this water level is recommended. Once you start the level, swim right until you get to a "?" block, dodging all of the fish. Once you get to it, hit it for a much needed Mushroom/Fire Flower (prefer it over the Feather in this level). Now you can get rid of all these fish with the Fire Flower. From here, swim right and you will get to a Yoshi Coin in between two torpedo launchers, so grab it after the torpedos are launched. Now, get past any more torpedos that fire, and then swim right and you will get to another Yoshi Coin. Dodge any torpedos fired at you, and then let the fish dodge by. Now swim farther right and you will get to a gap in between two pillars. Swim down it and grab the Yoshi Coin, and then get out of it. Back out here, swim right and you will get to a set of 4 torpedo launchers. Get really low (but don't kill yourself by going two low off the screen), and dodge the torpedo to the right once it fired. Now head right and you will get to another Yoshi Coin, which can be easily grabbed. From here, swim right and you will get to a Yoshi Coin between 3 torpedo launchers. Dodge the torpedos and grab the final Yoshi Coin for a 1-up. Now, wait for the set of fish on the right to pass by and then swim all the way right until you get to a green pipe, dodging all of the torpedos and ducking when you need to. Once you get to the green pipe, enter it. Out here, hit the exit pole and you will finish this annoying level. Now you can go south down a waterfall to the third Star Road exit. That is all of the levels. Let's head down the ladder east of Castle #4 to the Forest of Illuision. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> World 5: Forest of Illusion <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> To Twin Bridges | ---FGH-1-- / | \ 4-----|------2--BSP | | | FSA \--3-/ | | ---/ To Castle #5 and Chocolate Island ^ |To Forest Fortress Key: 1: Forest of Illusion 1 2: Forest of Illusion 2 3: Forest of Illusion 3 4: Forest of Illusion 4 FSA: Forest Secret Area FGH: Forest Ghost House BSP: Blue Switch Palace NOTE: Castle #5 and the Forest Fortress are not displayed because two paths lead to both areas outside, just outside of Chocolate Island. --------------------- Forest of Illusion 1 --------------------- A lot of Yoshi Coins are hidden in this level. Once you start the level, you will see a Wiggler next to you and a big tree to the right. Now, get behind the tree and hop on the Wiggler. You should get the hidden Yoshi Coin behind the tree. Now head right and jump over the gap. On here, hit the "?" block for a Mushroom/Fire Flower, and then jump from platform to platform until you get to a "?" block. Hit it and Yoshi will pop out. Get on him and head right and you will get to a trampoline. Put it in Yoshi's mouth and jump over the gap. Now, spit it below the Yoshi Coin below you and hop on it to get the coin. Now continue right and jump over the gap. On here, head right and grab the Yoshi Coin in the air. Now, head right and you will get to the halfway mark. Hit it and then get the multi-block to the right. Wait until a feather appears and then grab the star in the air. From here, jump over the gap to the right and grab the Yoshi Coin hiding behind the big tree. Now get on the platform above you and get to the end of it, collecting the fifth Yoshi Coin for a 1-up. Now, at the end of the platform, drop down to the ground below you. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SECRET EXIT Once you get through all of those enemies, you should stop at a "?" block below the platform you were just on. Hit it and a P-Balloon will pop out. Grab it and float across the pit below the platform to the left. Continue floating left and you will get to a platform with a keyhole on it. Wait until your power runs out and land on it. On here, hit the "?" block and a key will come out. Grab it and shove it in the keyhole, and you can go west towards the ghost house. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Down here, continue right and jump over the green pipe. Now, grab the sixth Yoshi Coin for an additional 1-up and knock the Hammer Bro off it s platform, and use it to get on the platform above you. On here, hit the exit pole to the right. You will head southeast to the next level. --------------------- Forest of Illusion 2 --------------------- A fun water level, but watch out. You can easily die due to not having enough time here. Once you start the level, hit the green "!" block for a Feather and advance right through the small openings, dodging the urchins. Follow this path right until you see an opening above you. Once you see it, let the fish go by you and dodge the urchin, and then head up the opening. Up here, throw the blue block to the right at the urchin to the left to get rid of it. Now collect the Yoshi Coin. From here, head right and follow this path to a large gap. Once you get to it, fall down it. Down here, swim right and you will stop at a wall. Now swim upward. At the top, swim over the pillar and fall down the gap to your right. Down here at the way bottom, head all the way right and you will get to a Yoshi Coin. Grab it and then head back left and you will stop at a wall. Swim upward and go through the opening to your right. In here, swim right to two urchins. Once they are by, get to the opening above you and grab the Yoshi Coin. Now get back to the ground below you and hit the halfway mark next to you. Now, swim all the way right until you get to an opening. Once you see an opening, go through it. In here, throw the blue block at the urchin next to you to get rid of it. Now, get the Yoshi Coin and follow this path to a small gap. Once you get to it, fall down it. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SECRET EXIT Now, this secret exit is really hard to miss. Once you hit the ground, there should be a yellow "!" block to your left. Hit it for a Mushroom and swim left. You will get to a key and a keyhole. Take the key and shove it in the keyhole. Hard to miss huh? Now you will go east towards the Blue Switch Palace. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Down here, swim slightly higher and head right. You should see openings above you with sleeping fish in them. One of them has a Yoshi Coin. Knock out the sleeping fish with your Fire Flower/Cape and grab the final coin for a 1-up. Now, swim right until you get to the exit pole. Now you will head southwest towards the next level. --------------------- Forest of Illusion 3 --------------------- A fun level. Once you start it, head right and jump over the first green pipe. Now get the Yoshi Coin and jump over the gap to your right. Now watch out for enemies popping out of bubbles. Now head right towards the trampoline and use it to hop over the tall blue pipe. Now, hit the "?" block for a Yoshi, he can be pretty useful for this level. Now head right and jump over the next few pipes until you get to a staircase made of yellow blocks. At the top should be a bubble with a Mushroom. Pop it, grab the Mushroom, and then drop back down to the ground below you. Down here, jump over the gap to the right. Over here, hit the yellow block and it will make the red Koopa Shell hit the block with the trampoline and knock it down. Use the trampoline and bounce over the tall yellow pipes. Now, grab the Yoshi Coin in the air to the right, and then jump over the gap to your right. From here, head all the way right until you get to a halfway mark. Once you get to it, hit it and then jump over the gap to the right. On here, grab the Yoshi Coin in between the two yellow pipes and get on the ground to the right. Down here, jump over the next two gaps and jump from gap to gap until you get to a tall green pipe. Once you get to it, drop down to the ground to your right. Down here, head right and you will get to a large series of "?" blocks. All of them have 1 coin, so who cares. But there is a Yoshi Coin in the air in between the coins, so grab it once you see it. Once you do that, head right and you will get to a gap. Jump over it. From here, use the yellow blocks to get past the tall green pipe. On this side, get the final Yoshi Coin for the 1-up. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SECRET EXIT Using the secret exit is the only way to get out of the Forest of Illusion and into castle #5. To get to it, you must be at least Big Mario/Luigi. To the right of the tall, green pipe, use the "?" blocks to get on it. On here, enter the pipe. Down here, spin dash through the yellow blocks to destroy them. Now take the key and shove it in the keyhole. This exit will take you south, out of the Forest of Illusion and into Castle #5. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now, if you want to explore the rest of Forest of Illusion (which you need to if you want to beat the game 100%), head right, jump over the yellow pipe and hit the exit pole. You will go northeast towards the Ghost House, which is the alternate path to that level. But before we do the Ghost House let's do the Blue Switch Palace east of Forest of Illusion 2, which you'll really need in the later levels. ------------------- Blue Switch Palace ------------------- This special stage is fun. Once you start the level, don't hit either P-Switch. First, collect many of the coins above you so you'll have room for the silver coins to fall. Now, go back and hit the blue P-switch. The brown blocks will turn to coins and vice versa, and all of the Spinies will fall to the platform you're on. Now hit the silver P-Switch to turn them all into coins. Collect all of them for 3 1-ups, and walk around if you don't see anymore. Once you do that, enter the green pipe and head all the way right. You will get to the big blue "!" switch, so hit it to turn all dotted blocks into solid blue blocks. You get nothing out of these either. What a ripoff. ------------------- Forest Ghost House ------------------- A tricky Ghost House if you don't know what you're doing. Once you start the level, head right and work your way out of this small tunnel until you get out of an opening and get into a large room, dodging all of the Boos and Eeries you see. In this big room, head right and jump on the platform you see. On here, collect the Yoshi Coin in the air and hit the "?" Block on the right. A Mushroom/Feather will pop out, so grab it. From here, head right and hit the halfway mark, and then open the door and go through. In here, head right and you will get to a flying "?" block. Hit it for a Mushroom/Fire Flower and grab it. From here, head right and you will get to another "?" block. Hit it for a Mushroom/Feather and then grab the Yoshi Coin in the air to the right. Now jump over the gap and head right. You will see the third Yoshi Coin, so grab it, head right and you will get to a small opening that big Mario/Luigi can't get through. Instead of jumping through it, get on the platform above you and grab the Yoshi Coin. Now, head right and you will get to a P-Switch. Pick up the P-Switch and take it to the two pits on the right. Fall in the second pit (which is longer) and hit the P-Switch. A blue door will appear to the right, so open it and go through. You will now be above the tunnel at the start of the level. From here, head all the way left until you get to the final Yoshi Coin. Once you get to it, grab it for the 1-up. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SECRET EXIT Well, remember that door you passed on the way to the Yoshi Coin? There is also one to the left. Both doors lead to exit poles but one exit won't take you anywhere, but it still counts as an exit for beating the game 100%. Now, you will see Big Boo guarding a door. Lure him out of the way and enter it. In here, collect the 3-up moon, and hit the exit pole. This is the exit that doesn't do anything, but still counts as an exit for beating the game 100%. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Remember that door you passed to the right? Go back to it, open it, and go through. This is the exit that will take you somewhere, so hit the exit pole in here. You will head southwest towards another level. --------------------- Forest of Illusion 4 --------------------- Once you start the level, ignore the Fishin' Lakitu at the start and head right. You will get to a platform with a Mushroom on it. Get it for an extra item and then grab the Yoshi Coin in the air to the right, then drop back down to the ground below you. Down here, head all the way right and you will get to a Multi Block. Wait until a Feather appears and then hit it. It will down turn into a Star, so grab it, and run right until you get to another Yoshi Coin. Grab it and then hit all of the blocks above you and you will get a Fire Flower/Mushroom out of one of them. From here, head right and you will get to a green pipe that rises up and down. Once it rises higher, grab the Yoshi Coin in the air and then head right until you get to a halfway pole. Once you get to it, hit it. Now head right and you will get to a blue pipe in the air. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SECRET EXIT This is possible and it doesn't matter what type of Mario you are, but it is a bit tricky to pull off. See that blue pipe in the air? It is too high for you to get to but there are plenty of ways to get to it. If you have a Yoshi, you can jump off of it in the air and get on the pipe. If you are Caped Mario/Luigi, you can fly onto it. Otherwise, head right and you should see a Koopa with wings bouncing high. Lure it to the pipe and when it gets near the pipe, jump on it while it's in the air holding A and B. It will bounce you higher so you can get on the pipe. Once you get onto it, enter it. In here, take the key, and shove it in the keyhole. You will go south towards the next secret level. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ignore the blue pipe if you don't want to take the secret exit. From here, go all the way right until you get to a Blue Koopa Shell, dodging all of the enemies in your way. Once you get to the Blue Shell, pick it up and kick it in the air once the Lakitu is directly above you. If it hits Lakitu, he will be knocked out of his cloud and his cloud won't diminish. So use the platforms to get into the cloud and ride it up the path of coins. At the end of the path you should see a Yoshi Coin, so grab it. Now, once you do that, drop down to the floor below you. Down here, head right until you get to the final Yoshi Coin, jumping over the pyramids made of blue blocks. Once you get to it, grab it for a 1-up. Now, jump over the pipe to your right and hit the exit pole. This exit will take you east to Forest of Illusion 2, so you'll need to get to the secret exit if you want to go to other levels. ------------------- Forest Secret Area ------------------- A fun level if you know what you're doing. Once you start the level, head right and you will get to two silver platforms. Hop on the left one and it will ride you up and down. The one on the right will also be moving down and up. Now, ride this platform until you see a Yoshi Coin. Once you see it, grab it and the two platforms will meet up again. Ride this platform you're on until you see another Yoshi Coin. Once you see the second coin, grab it and continue riding this platform until you get to the third Yoshi Coin. Once you get to it, grab it and the two silver platforms will meet up again. Instead of staying on the platform you're on, hop on the other platform. On here, this platform will ride you to the fourth Yoshi Coin. Grab it and wait for the two silver platforms to meet up again (they will meet next to the blue "!" blocks). Once you see the other platform, hop onto it instead of staying on this one. This platform will ride you to the final Yoshi Coin, so grab it for a 1-up. From here, let this platform ride you to the exit pole, and once you get to it, hit it. This level wasn't so bad was it? Now we go southeast out of the forest and to the Forest Fortress. ---------------- Forest Fortress ---------------- Entering this level as Luigi is highly recommended because this level scrolls by itself and the first Yoshi Coin is right above you. Once you start the level, jump to get the Yoshi Coin if you're Luigi or run and jump to get it as Mario before it goes off the screen. Otherwise, Save & Quit and try again. From here, the screen will scroll right by itself and watch out for all of the grinders. Now, head right and grab the Yoshi Coin you will come across, and watch out for the falling pillars too. Now, continue right continue right and you will get to your third Yoshi Coin right next to a grinder above green "!" blocks. Grab it and continue right. You will get to a door and the screen will stop scrolling. Open it and go through. In here, watch out for the falling grinder and DO NOT HIT THE HALFWAY MARK. If you do, you'll lose all your Yoshi Coins when you die and you can't go back. So ignore it and jump over the gap to the right. Now head on the platform above you and fall to the pit below you. Watch out for the Grinders. If they come near you, spin jump and touching them won't hurt. To get out of this pit, run up the wall to the right without being hit by the grinders if you're Mario. If you're Luigi, you can easily jump to get the fourth Yoshi Coin and to get on the platform above you. So, grab the Yoshi Coin and run up the wall. Up here, hit the "!" block and a Mushroom will come out, so grab it. Now jump over the big lava gap to the right. From here, head right and cross the bridges of grinders. But you can also use the small blocks in the air to dodge them. Once you get past the bridge, jump over the gap to the right. Over here, dodge all of the grinders that come at you and get on the middle platform. If you're Big Mario, hit the "?" block above you and a Feather will come out. It will float down to you, so grab it. Now, see that bridge of gray blocks to the right? Get on it and follow it to a pit. Once you get to it, fall down it. Down here, head right and get the final Yoshi Coin. Now, if you have a Cape, you can fly across this extremely large lava pit. At the end of it are a whole bunch of yellow blocks. Each one has a 1-up Mushroom and a big red door. If you're not caped Mario/Luigi, head back left, open the big red door, and go through. ******************* Boss Fight: Reznor Difficulty: 2/5 ******************* The Reznor will always be the same no matter what fortress you're in. They are in a group of four. Each of them is on their own platform. To get rid of them, hit them from beneath the platform they're on and they will fall into the lava. After you knock out two, the bridge you're on will start collapsing, so hop on one of the platforms that are open. If you are underneath a Reznor, deck him, and then get on the rotating platform underneath the final Reznor. Once you knock out the final one, the fortress will explode and you will have access to the fourth Star Road to the left of this fortress. Now that we have all of this done, let's go to Castle #5, south of Forest of Illusion 3. ------------------------ Castle #5: Roy's Castle ------------------------ Entering this level at least Big Mario/Luigi is recommended. Once you start the level, head right and fall in the pit below you. Down here, you will land on a row of brown blocks. Now these brown blocks will give you a ride to the other side of the pit. During you're ride to the other side of the pit, grab the Yoshi Coin you will see. Now, once you get to the other end of the pit, you will get to a large spike pit room. In here, keep riding the row of brown blocks until you get to the other side of this pit, grabbing the 3 Yoshi Coins in here. Also watch out for the brown falling spikes. At the end of the pit, head right and get off this ride. Now, don't hit the halfway mark because you'll lose you're Yoshi coins if you lose a life, and you won't be able to go back and get them. From here, head right and you will get to a P-Switch. Pick it up and take it to the edge of this platform next to a gap. Once you get to it, hit it. Now, see that yellow block opening and closing? Get on it and hit the Green "!" block. A much needed feather will come out, so grab it. Now, float across this gap landing on the yellow blocks, grabbing the final Yoshi Coin for a 1-up. At the end of this gap, head right and you will get to the big red door. Open it and go through. ****************** Boss: Roy Koopa Difficulty: 3.5/5 ****************** This boss is just like Ludwig and Morton Koopas. Now, when the fight starts, hit Roy on the top of the head and he will be stunned. Once he recovers, the walls will close in on you, so be quick. Hit him again before he climbs up the fall. Once he recovers from being stunned, hit him for the third and final time. If you can't hit him, he will climb up the wall and fall down on you, and the walls will close in some more. Also, if you're on the ground when he falls, you will be stunned and he can hit you. So, get rid of him before the real trouble starts. After this, you will win, Mario will blow himself up, and you will go south towards the Chocolate Island. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><> World 6: Chocolate Island <><><><><><><><><><><><><><> Here is a map of Chocolate Island SR-FF------- To Forest of Illusion | / To Valley of Bowser C5---/ | | | | /SGS Pipe CGH-1 | \ | Pipe | \ | \__C6 CF----3--2\ | | |_/ 5-- 4 Map Key: C5: Castle #5 FF: Forest Fortress SR: Star Road (leads to northeast part of Star World) 1: Chocolate Island 1 2: Chocolate Island 2 3: Chocolate Island 3 4: Chocolate Island 4 5: Chocolate Island 5 CGH: Chocolate Ghost House CF: Chocolate Fortress C6: Castle #6 SGS: Sunken Ghost Ship Pipe: Warp Pipes (lead to secret level) ------------------- Chocolate Island 1 ------------------- Yum, chocolate. On here, head right and a Mushroom will pop out of the bush, so grab it if you need it. From here, head right until you get to a flying "?" block. Hit it in the air and a Mushroom/Fire Flower will pop out, so grab it and get on the platform to your right. On here, head right and you will get to a green pipe. Jump over it and collect the Yoshi Coin in the air to the right. From here, enter the yellow pipe to the right. You will now be blasted out of the green pipe and over the gap. If you don't press anything, you should land next to a trampoline. If you want to use it to hit the halfway mark in the air, do it. Otherwise, jump over the small gap. From here, head right and you will get to a P-switch. Hit it to turn the coins into brown blocks, and then use them to hop across the nip nip pit. Over here, use the slanted platforms to get on the platform above you and to grab the second Yoshi Coin as well. Now, head right and you will get to a gap. Once you get to a gap, jump over it and collect the Yoshi Coin in the air. Now head right and jump from pipe to pipe until you get to a silver pipe next to a green, slanted pipe. Also grab the fourth Yoshi Coin you will get to. Now enter the silver pipe. You will then be blasted out of the slanted pipe and over a large gap. While in the air, try to hit the flying Koopa to get on the platform to the right. Now get the final Yoshi Coin for a 1-up, head right and hit the exit pole. You will head west towards the Ghost House. ---------------------- Chocolate Ghost House ---------------------- Try to be careful in the first half of this level because the floor you're on slides, as well as the sliding gap on it too. Once you start the level, head ALL THE WAY RIGHT until you get to a "?" block, dodging all of the Eerie groups and the Fishing Boo. Once you get to a "?" block, hit it and a Mushroom/Feather will pop out, so grab it. Now head right and you will see a platform on top of another one and a gap to the right of it. The bottom one has a Yoshi Coin, but to get to it, get on the platform to the right and jump lightly to get onto the platform. On here, grab the first Yoshi Coin and hit the "?" block for a Feather/Mushroom. From here, head all the way right until you stop at a wall, dodging the blue fire from the Fishing Boo and the Eerie groups. Once you stop at a wall, grab the Yoshi Coin in the air and open the door to the left when the sliding floor is right underneath it. In here, head right and you will get to three gray squares. They will turn to Boos when you turn your back to them and they turn back to blocks when you look at them. So lure them into the room to the right where a Yoshi Coin is in the air. When you lure them into the room, look at them to turn them into blocks and use them as platforms to get to the Yoshi Coin. Now head right past the next room and you will get to a room with three platforms and a Yoshi Coin. Use the platforms to get to the Yoshi Coin and then head right and you will get to a room with 3 levels of platforms in it. Get on the highest level and grab the final Yoshi Coin for a 1-up. Now, remember those blocks that turn to Boos when you look at them? Go back to where they where, and lure them into the room AFTER the next room (the one with a platform above you). In here, lure the Boos to the edge of the platform and then look at them to turn them into blocks. Now use them to get on the platform above you. On here, head left and open the door. In here, hit the exit pole. Now you will go south to Chocolate Island 2. ------------------- Chocolate Island 2 ------------------- NOTE THERE ARE TWO EXITS IN THIS LEVEL AND ACCESSING EITHER ONE OF THEM IS PRETTY TRICKY. I WILL LIST BOTH EXITS SEPARATELY. If you want to collect all of the Yoshi Coins, read this Walkthrough. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once you start the level, get onto the platform above you. On here, get on the platform above the trampoline. On here, jump around until you hit a hidden block. Once you find it, a coin will pop out. Now use this as a platform to hit the "?" block above you. Each time you hit it a coin will come out, so keep hitting it until the block turns brown. From here, head right and you will get to a Yoshi Coin. Grab it and now get the Yoshi Coin to the right. From here, head right until you stop at two coins. Collect them and drop down to the ground below you. Down here, enter the pipe. This pipe will take you to a different area of the level depending on your coins collecting OR your time left. Since you collected all the coins I mentioned, there should be a "?" block two your right. From here, head right and jump past all of the Rexes you see. Now, jump over the gap and use the trampoline to jump over the next gap. From here, continue right until you see a Yoshi Coin above a brown pipe. Collect it and go all the way right until you stop at a green pipe. Once you stop at a green pipe, enter it. In here, you will be in a large area with Mushrooms popping out of bubbles. Grab them if you need them and grab the Yoshi Coin in here. Once you do that, go all the way right until you stop at a green pipe. Once you get to the green pipe, enter it. In here, you will be in an area with green, yellow, red and blue "!" blocks forming a path. If you got the BLUE SWITCH PALACE at least, the Yoshi Coin will be on top of a blue "!" block, so grab it for a 1-up. From here, head right and hit the exit pole. Now you will go west towards the next level. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you want to take the secret exit, use this Walkthrough. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Once you start the level, you will still be in the same area. From here, RUN LIKE HELL to the end of the room without going for any coins. Once you run to the pipe, enter it. In here, you will be in an area of slanted platforms. QUICKLY use them to get to the other end of the room. At the end of the room is a pipe, so enter it. If you were fast enough, you should be in an area with a flat surface. Head right and you will get to a huge group of Chargin' Chucks throwing baseballs at you. Dodge them all or knock them out. Also in this area are green and yellow "!" blocks and there are plenty of green ones. Hit the green ones for Feathers and head right. You will get to a key, so take it and shove it in the keyhole. You will go northwest on the map to a pipe. Enter it if you want to take the secret level. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ------------------- Chocolate Island 3 ------------------- This is like one of the levels I Forest of Illusion where 1 exit will do nothing (but still counts) and the other exit is real. Once you start the level, head right and you will get to a spinning platform. Use it and hop from platform to platform until you get to a Yoshi Coin on a platform. Once you get to it, grab it. From here, hop from spinning platform to spinning platform until you see a Yoshi Coin in the air. Get on the spinning platform above it and use it to get the Yoshi Coin. From here, get on the spinning platform to the right. On here, use it to enter the pipe above you. In here, get on the wooden platform to the right and get on the edge of it to move it. Now it will rotate clockwise, so grab all of the coins and the Yoshi Coin on the right. Once you do it, drop down to the ground below you. Down here, enter the green pipe to the right. Back out here, use the spinning platforms to the right to grab the fourth Yoshi Coin. Now head right onto the next few spinning platforms and use them to get to the 5th and final Yoshi Coin. Also hit that green "!" block for a Feather because you'll really need it. From here, hop onto the platform to the right. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SECRET EXIT Now, you will only be able to get to the secret exit if you have a Yoshi or if you are Caped Mario. To get to it, head right and you will get to a Blue Koopa. If you have Yoshi, eat it and you will be able to fly, so fly very quickly over the very large gap to the right. Now, stay high in the air and go all the way right until you get to another platform. On here, hit each yellow block for a 1-up Mushroom and then hit the exit pole to the right. If you are Caped Mario, run right and fly to the platform above you PAST THE EXIT POLE ABOVE YOU. You should be right to the fake exit pole. Now run all the way right to the edge of this platform and fly. Now, keep tapping left in the air to stay up until you get to the platform, and then hit the exit pole. This is the real exit and you will go west to the Chocolate Fortress. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! On here, hit the yellow block and a vine will pop out. Climb it to the top. Up here, hit the exit pole to the right. This is the fake exit but it still counts as an exit for beating the game 100%. You will go counter-clockwise around the map back to this red dot on the map. So you'll need to get to the secret exit. ------------------- Chocolate Fortress ------------------- A really fun fortress if you ask me. Once you start the level, head right and you will get to two sets of spiked pillars moving up and down. Jump through their openings and continue right. You will get to a small opening, so go into it when the spiked pillar moves. In here, head right and you will get to a pit of chocolate. Jump over it because falling into it kills you (seriously, how on earth does a pit of chocolate kill you? Mario must really hate it). On here, continue right and hit the "?" block for a Mushroom/Feather. From here, fire will start to shoot slowly across the air, so watch out. Now head right and you will get to your first Yoshi Coin. Grab it and jump over the pit to the right. From here, head right, jump from pit to pit and you will get to a series of spiked pillars opening and closing. Carefully dodge them and get the Yoshi Coin you will see in between one of the spiked pillars. Once you get past that, head all the way right and hit the halfway mark you will get to. Now open the door to your right and go through. In here, head right and dodge the Thwomp. Once it rises back up from the pie, carefully get into the opening below you. In here, head all the way right to the third Yoshi Coin, dodging all of the Thwomps you see. Once you get to the Yoshi Coin, grab it and hit the "?" block on the left for a Mushroom/Feather. From here, go all the way right until you get to the next Yoshi Coin, dodging every Thwomp and Thwimp you see, jumping over pits as well. Also, to get past some Thwomps when jumping over pits, jump next to them to make them fall to the ground, wait for them to rise, and jump over the pit. Now, once you get to the fourth Yoshi Coin, grab it and head right until you get to the final Yoshi Coin. It is right beneath a Thwomp. Jump next to it to make it move and jump back onto the platform you were just on. Now grab the final Yoshi Coin for a 1-up and jump over the pit. From here, jump from pit to pit to the right (the Thwomps and Thwimps can't attack if you got the Red and Blue Switch Palaces) until you get to a green "!" block. Hit it for a feather, grab it, head right, and open the big red door. **************** Boss: Reznor Difficulty: 2/5 **************** You know the drill. Knock out all four Reznors from beneath their platforms to win. Once you knock out two from beneath their platforms, the platform you're on will start collapsing. So get on one of the empty platforms, and knock the two remaining Reznor out to win. On the final Reznor, get on the rotating platform beneath the platform the Reznor is on and knock him out when your platform is directly under his. You will now go south to the next level. ------------------- Chocolate Island 4 ------------------- Once you start the level, you will be sliding down a slope. At the end of it, get on the moving platform and use it to get onto the platform above you. On here, use the moving platforms to get to the platform across from you. At the end of it, grab the Yoshi Coin and continue right. Now, use all of these moving platforms to get across the chocolate pit without getting yourself killed, and stay on the lower half of this area. Once you get to the other side of this gap, head right up the slope and you will see a higher platform onto your left. Get on it and grab the Yoshi Coin. From here, head right and you will get to a pit. Fall down it ONLY IF YOU GOT THE BLUE, YELLOW, AND RED SWITCH PALACES. Down here, hit the halfway mark and head left to collect 3 1-up Mushrooms. Now, go back and use the moving platforms to get back onto the platform above you. Back up here, head right and you will get to a "staircase" of yellow blocks. Get the Yoshi Coin next to them and hit the third one to the top and a P-Switch will come out. Now, place it next to the two openings blocked by brown blocks. Then hit the P-Switch to turn them into coins. First, go into the higher opening to get the Yoshi Coin. Then get out of this opening and go into the lower opening. In here, head down the brown pipe. Down here, you will land on a yellow block and next to a P-Switch. Pick up the P-Switch and take it to the bridge below you. Down here, get next to the opening to the right and hit the P-switch to turn all brown blocks into coins and vice versa. Now you will fall way down, seeing openings to your right. Each opening has a special goodie. Skip the first opening and TRY TO LAND IN THE SECOND OPENING. IT IS VERY HARD TO DO IF YOU ARE NOT CAPED MARIO. If you get into the opening, you should be next to a set of brown blocks. Wait for them to turn into coins and once that happens, head right and collect the final Yoshi Coin for a 1-up, and then enter the pipe to the right. From here, drop down to the ground below you. Down here, head all the way right until you get to the exit pole. Once you get to the exit pole, hit it. Now you will go west towards the next level. ------------------- Chocolate Island 5 ------------------- This is a really fun level. Once you start it, you will see Spinies surrounded by brown blocks so they can't go anywhere. Also, head right and you will get to a P-Switch on brown blocks. Of course, it would be logical to hit it right now, turn the blocks you're on into coins so you can fall in the gap below and kill yourself. Sound great? Anyway, pick up the P-Switch and take it all the way right until you see a Yoshi Coin surrounded by brown blocks. Once you see it, hit it to turn the brown blocks into coins. Now grab the Yoshi Coin while you can and once you do that, head right and you will get to a yellow pipe. Enter it. In here, you will be in an area with a nice, colorful, beautiful background. You will also see fish popping out of bubbles in the air. As long as they are not in the water they will not hurt you if you touch them. You will just knock them out. Anyway, while in this area, head all the way right until you get to a blue pipe, collecting the two Yoshi Coins, grabbing the Mushrooms if you need to, and watching out for fish. Once you get to the blue pipe and have both Yoshi Coins, enter it. Back out here, head right and hit the halfway mark (actually you're right near the end of the level thanks to that shortcut). Now, head right and you will get to a series of green and orange pipes moving up and down. Hop from each pipe until you get to a set of yellow blocks opening and closing, grabbing the fourth Yoshi Coin. From here, use these opening and closing blocks to get to the next set of pipes. On these pipes, get the final Yoshi Coin for a 1-up. Now head right and get on the ground. On here, head right, dodge the Chargin' Chucks, and hit the exit pole. You will go north to Castle #6. -------------------------- Castle #6: Wendy's Castle -------------------------- This is probably the hardest castle out of all of them. Once you start the level, head right and jump over the gap. Now, wait for the spiked pillar to fall on the two trampolines, and wait for it to rise. Once that happens, use one of the trampolines to get onto the platform above you. On here, head right and drop down to the floor below you. Down here, head right and grab the Yoshi Coin in the air, dodging the grinders on the rail. From here, head right and use the small platform to get across the gap. This is probably one of the hardest parts of this level. At the same time, spiked pillars will fall, and you'll have to deal with grinders too. After you dodge the first few falling spikes, wait for them to rise and then run like hell to the end of the room. In this room are stone platforms and grinders. Use the stone platforms to get on the platform above you. On here, head right and drop down to the platform below you. Down here, hit the yellow "!" block for a Mushroom, and grab it. Now get past the next four fast pillars and at the end, get the Yoshi Coin to the left of the fourth spiked pillar. From here, head right and jump over the halfway mark. Don't hit it so you'll be able to get the Yoshi Coins at the beginning if you die. Now open the door to the right and go through. In here, this is probably the worst part of the game. Head right and jump onto the small platform. On here, hit the "!" block for a Mushroom and dodge the Lil' Sparky. Now get on the moving platform to the right and grab the Yoshi Coin. From here, head right and get on that large platform with the Hothead. On here, wait for the ceiling to the right to rise so you won't get crushed, and then get to the end of the platform. Before the ceiling crushes you, get on the small platform to the right. On here, jump onto the next platform and grab the Yoshi Coin in the air as well. Now head right and get on the sliding stone block. Use it to get on the platform to the right. On here, get on the platform below you while the ceiling above you is high above you. You'll need to time your jump right to get onto the platform if you're not Caped Mario or you die. On here, get on the small platform above you and get the final Yoshi Coin on the left for a 1-up. From here, head right and get on the large platform to the right. On here, there are 3 square platforms. Two have a Lil' Sparky and the other has a Hothead. Carefully get by them and hit the green "!" block for a much needed feather, grab it, and head right to open the big red door. ********************* Boss: Wendy O' Koopa Difficulty: 4/5 ********************* This is probably the hardest boss you'll face. This is like Lemmy Koopa, but instead there are 2 flames moving around and they are very hard to dodge. Like Lemmy, there are 3 Koopas that pop up from the orange pipes. 1 is pink and the other 2 are yellow. Hit the pink if it's next to you of course. If you, not try to hit it. So, when Wendy comes out of the pipe (which is the pink one) hit her. Good luck trying to dodge the fireballs. After 3 hits she will sink into the lava, and Mario will take this castle down with a mop. Now you will go north to the next world, but let's do that secret level in the pipe. ----------------- Chocolate Secret ----------------- A really fun secret level. Once you start it, use the trampoline on the right to get past the lava pit. From here, head right until you get to an opening, and drop down to the platform below you. Above you are two Chargin' Chucks kicking footballs at you. To get rid of one of them, take a Buzzy Beetle Shell and kick it up at them. Now pick it up and kick it at the second Chuck. From here, get on the platform the second Chuck was on and head right down the slope and jump over the gap. On here, hit the "?" block for a Mushroom/Feather, and head right. Get past the annoying Chargin' Chuck and head up the green pipe. In this secret area there are 4 gray platforms that fall when you touch them and a Hammer Bro. Get the Yoshi Coin below you and try to hit the halfway mark above you dodging the Chargin' Chucks. From here, head right and enter the green pipe. This is probably the best and fun part of this level. In here, head down the stairs. At the bottom you'll get to a huge series of slopes. Hold down the whole ride to slide down these slopes, knocking out all of the Buzzy Beetles for a few 1-ups. Once you get past all of this, there will be a pipe at the end of the slope, so enter it. In here, head right and you will get to a lava pit, dodging all of the Spike Tops. Use the yellow platform in the lava to get across in the pit. But watch out, these platforms sink when you touch them, so you'll need to be really fast. From here, head right until you get to another lava pit, grabbing the third Yoshi Coin in your way. Once you do that, use the yellow platforms to get across the lava pit REALLY QUICKLY because there are a lot of platforms in this lava. Also collect the 4th Yoshi Coin while you're at it. Once you get past all of this, head right to the next "?" block. Hit it for a Mushroom/Fire Flower, grab it, and continue right until you get to the next lava pit, dodging all of the Chargin Chucks. Once you get to the lava pit, BE REALLY FAST USING ALL OF THE YELLOW PLATFORMS TO GET ACROSS THE LAVA PIT. At the end, grab the Yoshi Coin for a 1-up and enter the pipe. In here, hit the exit pole. You will go west towards a pipe. This pipe takes you to castle #6, so you can use this as a shortcut. Well, that's all the exits in this level so let's move on. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><> World 7: Valley of Bowser <><><><><><><><><><><><><><> Here is your map of this area: DS2--Pipe | SR FD BD Pipe | | | 4-----C7 VF | | | 3----VGH--2--1-- \To Chocolate Island Pipe-------------CS-------Pipe Map Key: 1: Valley of Bowser 1 2: Valley of Bowser 2 3: Valley of Bowser 3 4: Valley of Bowser 4 VGH: Valley Ghost House VF: Valley Fortress C7: Castle #7 FD: Front Door to Bowser's Castle BD: Back Door to Bowser's Castle SR: Star Road (leads to southeast part of Star World) DS2: Donut Secret 2 (part of Donut Plains) CS: Chocolate Secret (part of Chocolate Island) ------------------ Sunken Ghost Ship ------------------ This is probably the most annoying level for Yoshi Coins. You'll want a Blue Yoshi or be Caped Mario at best. For the first half of the level you swim. Once you start the level, swim right and you will get to a "?" block. Hit it for a Mushroom/Feather. Grab it. Now if you have a backup Fire Flower, use it by pressing select because you can't waste this Feather. Now swim right and enter the yellow pipe. In here, swim right until a whole bunch of Boos pop out and surprise you. There won't be enough to cover the whole screen, so you'll need to navigate through the gaps and openings the Boo groups leave. Swim right until you get to an opening, navigating yourself through all of the Boos. Once you get to the opening, the Boos will stop popping out for good. Now swim right to another opening and you will get to a set of Boo Buddies. Swim through them and into the opening above you. Now swim right past the next set of Boo Buddies and you will get to a pipe. If you still have that leftover Feather, use it. Now. Now enter the pipe. Now, if you are Caped Mario or Blue Yoshi, this is going to be fun. If you are Caped Mario, glide out of the opening and glide a little to the right. You will see a Yoshi Coin in the air, so grab it. Now keep gliding a little more to the right (also glide left and right if you need to) until you see the next Yoshi Coin. Grab it and glide a little more to the left until you get to the third Yoshi Coin (it is away from the wall). Now, glide until you see a "?" block above a platform. Get on the platform and hit the "?" block for an invincibility star. Grab it and jump off to the left. Glide on the left half of the screen until you see the fourth Yoshi Coin. Grab it and keep falling until you get to a large set of coins. Get on the right half of the coin set and stay on the right half of this room. After you get past these coins, you should see the final Yoshi Coin to the right beneath the coins, so grab it for a 1-up. Now, you can keep falling until you hit water. Once that happens, get on the middle platform and collect the orb for a 1-up. Now a cave will form and you will enter it for the Valley of Bowser. ------------------- Valley of Bowser 1 ------------------- Once you start the level, head right up the stairs. At the top, there is a high platform and a floor below you. Take the lower path and continue right until you see a huge set of Blue Blocks. Pick them up and kick them out of your way and dig yourself through them. Now, wait until you see a Chargin' Chuck and break the rest of the blue blocks for you. Now head right and get the Yoshi Coin on top of the platform. From here, head back left and take the higher platform now. From here, head right and you will have two different paths to take again. This time, take the higher path. From here, jump over the Mega Mole and head right to get the second Yoshi Coin. Now go back left and once you get back to the optional path, take the lower one. From here, head right until you get to a pit of water. Next to it is a huge group of yellow blocks. Wait for the Chargin' Chucks to break through the yellow blocks and then use the opening they created in the yellow blocks. From here, head right and you will get to a green "!" block. Hit it and a Feather will come out, so grab it. Now, get on the platform above this platform. On here, go all the way right towards the edge of the platform. At the edge of the platform jump over the gap and get on the platform across from you. On here, get on the platform above you. On here, head right and grab the third Yoshi Coin. From here, go back left to the edge of this platform, and then drop down to the one directly below you. Down here, head all the way right until you get to a small gap, and then drop down it. Down here, get the Yoshi Coin to the right. Now jump in the empty spaces of the gap and brown blocks will form to make a bridge across the gap. Once you do that, go back left and get on the platform above you. You know how the brown blocks were formed to make a bridge? Head right and cross them to get to the edge of the platform, getting past the yellow blocks. At the edge of this platform, jump over the gap and get on the platform across from you. On here, head all the way right until you stop at a wall, dodging all of the Mega Moles. Once you stop at a wall, grab the final Yoshi Coin for a 1-up and head all the way back left until you get to a gap with a yellow block in the middle of it. Once you get to that gap, drop down it. Down here, head right and you will get to a small set of blue blocks. Let the Chargin' Chuck break through them, and then head right and enter the green pipe. In here, hit the exit pole to the right. Now you will go west to the next level. ------------------- Valley of Bowser 2 ------------------- If you want to get all of the Yoshi Coins, you're going to need a Yoshi, otherwise you can only get 4 of them. If you want to take the secret exit, you're going to need to be Caped Mario. Once you start the level, head right until you get to a "?" block, using the moving yellow platforms to get onto higher platforms. Now, once you get to a "?" block, hit it and a Mushroom/Feather will come out, so grab it. Now continue right until you get to the first Yoshi Coin, dodging the Swoopers. Once you get to the Yoshi Coin, grab it and hit the "!" block to the right for a Mushroom. Now hit the halfway mark, head right, and enter the pipe. In here, head up the stairs to the left. At the top one, jump around until you hit a "?" block. A Mushroom/Feather will pop out of it, so grab it. If you have Yoshi, head right and hit the "?" block. Yoshi Wings will pop out so jump onto them. You will be sent into this area in the air. In here, Yoshi will be able to fly so head right and grab the 4 Yoshi Coins in this area for a 1-up. At the end, fall in the pit and you'll be done with the level. Now if you don't have Yoshi, head into the opening in the right in between the two yellow moving platforms. In here, head right until you see an opening with two coins. Wait for the platform to move into that opening, and wait for the platform you're on to rise. Go into the opening above you and while the platform is rising, you will see a small opening in the ceiling so poke your head in there so you won't get crushed. While the platform you're on it lowering, head right until you get to an opening. Head into it when the platform you're on is LOWERING. In here, you'll see a small pit, so enter it so you won't get crushed. Now, when the platform you're on is rising, head right out of this opening, and in this area, wait for the platform you're on to rise so you are close to the ceiling. Up here, run right until you stop at a wall and then wait for the platform you're on to lower. Now run right and you will get to a large pit. Get into it so you won't be crushed, and then wait for the platform you're on to rise. Run right out of this opening and get into the small opening above you so you won't be crushed while the platform you're on is rising. Now, wait for the platform you're on to lower and wait for it to rise again. Now run right and you will see another opening above you. Get below it so you won't be crushed, and right here is the final run. RUN ALL THE WAY RIGHT UNTIL YOU SEE A GREEN PIPE ABOVE YOU OR YOU WILL BE CRUSHED. While you see the pipe, wait for the platform you're on to rise, head right and enter the green pipe. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SECRET EXIT This can only be done if you are Caped Mario/Luigi. Once you enter the pipe and fall to the yellow platform below you, it will start rising, so run up the stairs to the right, and RUN across this whole platform. At the end, jump off the platform you're on and fly left to the ceiling above you. You will land on a secret platform, and you can't be seen on the screen. So run left and you will get to a gap, so fall down it. Down here, take the key and shove it in the keyhole. You will go north to a secret fortress called the Valley Fortress. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you are not Caped Mario, head up the stairs to the right and run to the edge of this platform. Now continue right until you get to the exit pole, and when you get to it, hit it. You will go west to the Ghost House. ------------------- Valley Ghost House ------------------- A really annoying Ghost House and you need to be fast, so being Mario is highly recommended. Once you start the platform, head right until you get to a door, hopping from platform to platform, grabbing the Yoshi Coin as well. Once you get it and get to the door, open it and go through. In here, try to jump on top of the yellow block above you. On here, get the Yoshi Coin above you, and then hit the P-Switch. Platforms will be formed to the right and left and a star will fall down, so ignore it. Instead, *RUN* from platform to platform to the right until you get to a small opening, collecting the third Yoshi Coin. Now, on here, *RUN* until you get to a 1-up Mushroom before the coins turn into brown blocks. If you can't make it to door #5, enter the first door and try again. Once you get to the fifth door, enter it and go through. In here, pick up the P-Switch and hop across the brown blocks. Now get the coins to the right of you in front of the opening so they won't turn into brown blocks. Now hit the P-Switch to turn the coins into brown blocks and vice versa, so you can cross the gap and get the Yoshi Coin. Now head right and go into the opening. In here, get the final Yoshi Coin for a 1-up. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SECRET EXIT You must be Caped Mario/Luigi to do this. In here, fly around the top right part of the room and you'll see an opening that's too small for you to get into unless your little Mario/Luigi. Here's how to get into it: Fly against the wall and glide down it, holding down and B. Once you get to the opening, hold Down and B and keep tapping A and you should get into the opening ducking. If you can't get in it try again. Now keep jumping to get past the opening and into the big room. Now, once you can do it, take the key and shove it in the keyhole. Now this secret is a shortcut north to Castle #7. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now, in here, head right and you will get to a door, so open it and go through. In here, hit the yellow block above you so the P-Switch will fall down. Now hit it and platforms will appear. NOW RUN TO THE RIGHT HOPPING FROM PLATFORM TO PLATFORM until you get to an opening. This is the same hall with 5 doors in hit loaded with coins. RUN DOWN IT before they turn into brown blocks. YOU MUST MAKE IT TO THE THIRD OR FOURTH DOOR. If you had enough time to get to door 3 or 4, enter either one and you'll be in the exit room. Now go right and hit the exit pole. You will go west to the next level. ------------------- Valley of Bowser 3 ------------------- A really fun level. Once you start it, head right and jump past the 3 Koopas and you will get to a "?" block. Hit it for a Mushroom/Feather and then grab it. Now continue right until you get to a gap. Now, you will see platforms with numbers labeled on them. That shows how many seconds it will take for the platform to vanish once you land on them, and they do slide to the right. So in the gap, use all of these 1 and 4 second platforms to get across this gap, collecting the two Yoshi Coins you see. Once you get to a pillar, get on top of it. On here, get the third Yoshi Coin in the air and then land on the yellow pipe. On here, use the 1 second platforms to get to the right to get onto a platform with a trampoline on it. On here, ignore it and get on the platform to the right. Use it to get onto the highest platform above you, and then head down the slope to the right, dodging all of the Koopas jumping around. Now, get to a pillar and you will get to more second-vanishing platforms in the air to the right. Now, use all of these 1 and 4 second vanishing platforms until you get to the final platform, dodging all of the giant Bullet Bills and collecting the final two Yoshi Coins for a 1-up when you see both of them. Once you see the final platform and you got the two Yoshi Coins, get on it. On here, head right and hit the exit pole. You will now go north to the next level. ------------------- Valley of Bowser 4 ------------------- Once you start the level, head right down the slope and you will get to a lava pit. Use the platform in the lava pit to get across it. On here, head right up the slope and you will get to a Chargin' Chuck throwing soccer balls at you. Dodge them and head right to a lava pit. Once you get to the lava pit, use the sinking gray platforms and the Koopas to get across of it. Once you get past the green lava pit, enter the green pipe to the right. In here, head left, hopping from platform to platform until you get to a "?" block. Watch out, the platforms are slippery. Now, once you get to the "?" block, hit it and a Mushroom/Feather will come out, so grab it. Now you will get to a Yoshi Coin above the water, so grab it, dodging all of the Spike Tops and fish. Now head left and you will get to a purple pipe. Once you get to the pipe, enter it. You'll be back near the yellow "!" block, so hit it if you want a back up Mushroom. Now head right past the same lava pit and once you get across the lava pit, head right past the green pipe. Now hit the yellow block and a vine will pop out so climb up it. At the top, get on the platform to your right. On here, there will be a "?" block next to you with a Yoshi. Grab it if you want to take the secret exit, otherwise, leave it. Now head right and you will get to three columns of yellow blocks. If you are at least Big Mario, spin jump down the column to the right and you will see an opening. Once you see the opening go into it. In here, head right and you will see a Yoshi Coin. Grab it and drop down the lava pit below you. Down here, try to land on a platform, and then use them to cross the lava pit. Once you get across the lava pit, you will see a Chargin' Chuck kicking soccer balls at you. Dodge them and get the third Yoshi Coin next to him, and then continue right. You will get to a lava pit. Try not to hit the halfway mark and then cross it. Once you get past the lava pit, head right. You will get to a Chargin' Chuck kicking soccer balls at you. Yoshi can eat the soccer balls so you can get past him easier, otherwise you'll have to dodge the balls just right because the opening is fairly small. Now, get past him and head right. In this lava pit, get on the yellow "!" block and hit the "?" block for a Mushroom/Feather, and continue right. After this lava pit, head right. You will get to an opening with a Yoshi Coin in it, so grab it and leave the opening. Now use the platforms to get onto the platform above you. On here, head right and jump from lava pit to lava pit until you get to a huge lava pit. Now, jump onto the sinking platforms and use them to get to the trampoline. If you got the Blue Switch Palace, you can get the final Yoshi Coin for a 1-up, so grab it. Now get onto the platform above you. On here, hop onto the platform to the right. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SECRET EXIT You must have Yoshi to be able to do this. Now, you will see a key surrounded by gray blocks. If you have Yoshi, use his tongue to get past the blocks and the key will be in his mouth. Now take the key, spit it out, and shove it in the keyhole above you. This will take you north to the final Star Road out of 5, and it is a shortcut to Bowser's Castle as well. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! On here, head right, jump over the pillar and hit the exit pole. This will take you east to the 7th and final of the normal castles. -------------------------- Castle #7: Larry's Castle -------------------------- This is just like Castle #5 at the beginning. Coming here as Caped Mario/Luigi is highly recommended. Once you start the level, head right and get on the string of brown blocks. Now they will start moving, so ride them until you get next to platform of brown blocks with ball 'n' chains on them, dodging all the ones you see and collecting the Yoshi Coin. Once you grab it and get to the brown block platform, get on it and follow the sliding platform where it will pop out from the left, so you can get back on it. Back on here, grab the Yoshi Coin at the edge of the platform. Now ride this platform until you get to a spike pit, dodging all of the ball 'n' chains. Once you get to the spike pit, collect the Yoshi Coin and then the brown block platform will go right down a gap. Instead of jumping off it to get on the door to the right, follow the platform down the gap. At the bottom you will see an opening to your right. Jump over the halfway mark and don't hit it (so you can start from the beginning and get Yoshi Coins) and collect the final two Yoshi Coins for a 1-up. Now open the door to the right and go through. This is where Caped Mario/Luigi comes in handy. Head right until you stop at a wall of yellow blocks, getting past the Dry Bones and spiked pillars. Once you get to the wall of yellow blocks, have Caped Mario whack them so you can go through them. Or have the Magikoopa toss a magic blast at them so they'll create an opening. Either way, jump over the gap and continue right to another wall of yellow blocks. Cape whack or have a Magikoopa blast magic at them to get rid of them, and continue right. From here, head right and jump over the lava gap. Now, head right and get past the bridge of yellow blocks, dodging the spiked pillars and magic blasts. From here, head right to the big red door, hit the green "!" block for a Feather, grab it, and then enter the big red door. ****************** Boss: Larry Koopa Difficulty: 2.5/5 ****************** This boss is pathetic for a World 7 boss. He is just like the very first boss you fought, Iggy Koopa. You are on a seesaw and must knock Larry into the lava pit. But this time 3 fireballs constantly shoot out of the lava pit, bit if you know where they are, they are pretty easy to dodge. The trick is that let Larry stay where he is at the fight. And when the seesaw tips over to the right, hit him a few times and you should be able to knock him in. If you can't, try to get him in there sooner or later and he will spit fireballs sometimes, so watch out. After the fight, Mario/Luigi will pick up the castle and kick it out of sight. Now you can go north to Bowser's Castle, but there is a lot we can do now, such as the Valley Fortress. ---------------- Valley Fortress ---------------- Once you start the level, head right until you get to a green "!" block, dodging the spiked pillars that fall down at you. Once you get to the green "!" block, hit it for a much needed Feather and grab it. Once the spiked pillars raise, head right and jump over the gap onto the next platform. On here, head right and you will see a Yoshi Coin in the ceiling. Wait for the spike guarding it to fall and then grab it. From here, head right and you will get to an opening, so go through. In here, you will be in a room with falling spiked pillars and spike pits. Getting past these spiked pillars are pretty easy. When they fall, jump over the gaps they fall in and when you get to three spiked pillars, wait for them to rise, jump onto the middle platform, and then jump over the third platform to get from them safely. Also grab the two Yoshi Coins in here while you're at it. Now, jump over the halfway mark and head right. In here, hop from platform to platform, dodging the fireballs and Dry Bones. Now you will get to a room where spiked pillars fall really fast. Jump from each of them, grabbing the fourth Yoshi Coin. At the end you will see a Yoshi Coin next to a pillar hovering above the lava. Once the spiked pillar rises, grab it without falling in the lava and quickly get past the last two spiked pillars. Now head right and open the big red door. ****************** Boss: Reznor Difficulty: 2.5/5 ****************** Just like every single boss in each fortress. There are four Reznors, each of them on a platform rotating clockwise. To beat them, you must knock them from beneath the platform they are on. Once you knock out two Reznor, the platform you're on will start collapsing, so get on one of the platforms you knocked a Reznor off from. From here, once your rotating platform is just underneath one with a Reznor, knock him off. Repeat for the fourth Reznor. Now you will go north to the Back Door of Bowser's Castle. One of the biggest shortcuts in a game. ---------------- Front/Back Door ---------------- This is it. Your final showdown. This level does not count as an exit and there are no Yoshi Coins either. Now, if you took the front door, you must go through the complete level. If you beat the Valley Fortress, you will be able to get to the Back Door and start in the room BEFORE Bowser. If you take the Front Door, the room you're in has 4 doors. You can enter whatever you want, but the second one is the easiest. So skip the first door and enter the second door. In here, these are like the cages in the first castle. Dodging the Koopas are really easy and the fireballs shouldn't give you a problem. Now, hop on the cage and get yourself to the end. At the end of the cage, get on the ground below you and enter the door. In here, this is like the first room. There are 4 doors and you can enter whatever one you want. The easiest one is the last door. So get to the end of the room and enter the door you come across. In here, all you have to do is get past the few Chargin' Chucks that jump pretty high in the air. These shouldn't be a problem either. Also there is a green "!" block, so grab the Feather that comes out of it. Dodge the Chargin' Chucks and you'll be fine. Now, at the end of the room, open the door and go through. Now, this is where you start the level if you took the back door. Head right and you will get to a "?" block. Hit it to show some light in this room if you can't see in the dark very well. Now continue right until you get to the big red door, getting past the really easy enemies and jumping over the small lava gap. At the end, there will be a half way mark if you took the Back Door. Hit it, and then open the big red door. ***************** Boss: Bowser Difficulty: 4/5 ***************** Here it is. The final Showdown. Grab yourself your favorite drink (I love Vanilla Coke) and take some deep breaths. Now, some flying bowl will come down (called a Koopa Clown Car), and it has a silly smile on its face. Well prove you're tough and wipe the smile off its face (can't do that really). Now, it looks all harmless until Bowser pops out! Oh no! Relax, he's nothing. Now, Bowser will go swooping across the screen trying to hit him. Don't worry, he won't hit you. After a while, he'll pop out some Mecha-Koopas. They are the key role in this fight. The object with them is to knock one down, pick it up, and wait for the right moment. Once Bowser is just to your side, kick it up in the air and hope it lands on Bowser's head. If so, good job. If not, try again. Don't worry, he'll throw out an unlimited supply of them, so keep yourself cool. Don't jump either because the propeller can hurt you. After you hit him with two Mecha Koopas, he will be a wuss and fly off the screen. Now, while Bowser is gone, pumpkins on fire will start coming down. They won't take up the screen and they may be a pain to dodge, but after two sets come down, the Koopa Copter will return. Peach will come out this time, screaming for Help and then she will toss a Mushroom at you. Grab it. Now, Bowser takes over. Instead of swooping across the screen, he'll just swing from side to side. Now, he will tip over the Koopa Clown Car and send a giant bubble at you. If it seems that you can't dodge it, spin jump and touching it will not hurt you. Then he will dump another bubble shortly, and then finally release the two Mecha Koopas. Knock one out, and kick it in the air when Bowser is close to you. If it hits him, good job. If not, Try your second Koopa. Otherwise he'll dump more bubbles and toss more Mecha Koopas out. Another great way to hit him is to kick it while jumping. After two more hits, he will retreat from the screen. More Fire Pumpkins will spit down and dodge them. The Koopa Clown Car will return, and Peach will toss your last Mushroom. Grab it and then the real show with Bowser begins. This time, the eyes on the Koopa Clown Car will shut, and here's the real showdown. He will come slamming across the screen pounding the floor you're on, trying to crush you. He is pretty easy to dodge, and after he pounds the ground a few times in his Koopa Clown Car, he will pause for a brief moment and bust out the Mecha Koopas. Now, knock one out, and if Bowser slams the ground while the stunned Mecha Koopa is on the ground, he will disappear. Now kick the Mecha Koopa in the air while jumping and when Bowser is near close to you. If you hit him, you're one hit away from victory. Take the next one, repeat and you have him. After you hit him with 6 Mecha Koopas (he's going to have a concussion now), he will surrender Peach and float off the screen. Peach and Mario will get close to each other, Peach kisses Mario and you watch a romantic fireworks show. Ok, do we really need this much celebration for saving a Princess? Mario's already done it twice in the past. Now go enjoy the rest of the ending. <><><><><><> Star World <><><><><><> Ok, you rescued Peach and you think you're done with the game. Well, you have this to do if you didn't do it before. There are 5 ways to get into Star World, and I have them listed in my Walkthrough. Here they are again: From Donut Plains (Donut Secret House) From Vanilla Dome (Vanilla Secret 1) From The Twin Bridges (Soda Lake from Cheese Bridge Area secret exit) From the Forest of Illusion (Forest Fortress) From the Valley of Bowser (Valley of Bowser 4) Here is a map of Star World: TB / \ VD--2 3--FOI \ S / 1 | 4 / /5\ \ DP-/ \-VOB Map Key: DP: Star Road from Donut Plains VD: Star Road from Vanilla Dome TB: Star Road from Twin Bridges FOI: Star Road from Forest of Illusion VOB: Star Road from Valley of Bowser S: Star Road Leading to Special World 1: Star World 1 2: Star World 2 3: Star World 3 4: Star World 4 5: Star World 5 Another interesting thing here is that you can unlock the colored Yoshis here. A Blue Yoshi can be found in Star World 2, a Red one can be found in Star Worlds 1 and 4, and a Yellow Yoshi can be found in Star Worlds 3 and 5. Once you make it an adult Yoshi, they will become available at the Top Secret Area and in any levels. Check my Unlockables section for more info. ------------- Star World 1 ------------- Getting the Yoshi Coins here is pretty tricky unless you take the correct route. At the start, take the Mushroom if you need it and then drop down to the floor below you. Down here, count the number of yellow blocks and get on the 7th one to the right. Now start spin jumping and you will eventually get to the first Yoshi Coin. Now, once you hit a gray platform, drop down to it. Down here, drop down to the yellow blocks below you. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SECRET EXIT Taking the secret exit is needed to get to the next level in the Star World, and it's required in every level. Keep in mind the normal exits count as exits too. So, on this row of yellow blocks, get on the wall to the right and start spin jumping. You will get to a platform with a key and a keyhole on it. Take the key and shove it in the keyhole. You can now get to the next level. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Down here, get on the 6th block from the left and start spin jumping again. You will get to the next Yosih Coin, so grab it and you will eventually fall down to another gray platform. Now, drop down to the yellow blocks below you. Down here, spin jump on the 6th block from the left again and you will get to the third Yoshi Coin. Now, you will drop down to a gray platform, so drop down to the yellow blocks below you. Down here, this row of blocks doesn't have any Yoshi Coins, so drop down to the next set in the opening to the left. Down here, spin jump on the 6th block from the left and you will get to the next Yoshi Coin. Grab it and since you're in a big opening, quickly get to the right and you'll spin jump through some more blocks to the final Yoshi Coin. Grab it for a 1-up. Keep spin jumping and you'll see a baby Red Yoshi. Pick it up once you have the chance. Feed it 5 Koopas and you'll be able to get an adult Red Yoshi. Now you can get a Red Yoshi at the Top Secret Area! Once you do that, spin jump some more and you'll get to a pipe, so enter it. In here, hit the exit pole. ------------- Star World 2 ------------- In this level you will be in a water level coming out of a pipe. There is a baby Blue Yoshi next to you and a star will come down. Feed it the star and it will become an adult Yoshi! Or feed it 5 enemies in the deep blue sea. Once you do that, you can get a Blue Yoshi in the Top Secret Area and other levels! Now, once you get the Blue Yoshi, don't get on it since you need to unlock Yellow Yoshi too. Otherwise the egg will be a 1-up Mushroom. Now, get the Yoshi Coin next to the pipe and swim right, staying fairly low. You will see the next Yoshi Coin, so grab it. Now, swim right until you get to a "?" block, and then pass it. Now you will get to two Yoshi Coins, so grab both of them and continue right, dodging all of the fish. From here, swim all the way right until you get to a green pipe. On the wall next to the green pipe is the final Yoshi Coin. Grab it for a 1-up. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SECRET EXIT Now, once you collect the final Yoshi Coin, you will notice an opening below you. As long as you don't fall through the gap, you'll be fine. Go through the opening and continue right. You will get to a hidden area with a key and the keyhole, so take the key and shove it in the keyhole. Now you can get to the next Star World level. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now, from here, enter the green pipe. In here, hit the exit pole. ------------- Star World 3 ------------- This level is really short and it can be really tricky if you don't know what you're doing. Once you start the level, grab the Yoshi Coin to your left. Now, get the baby Yellow Yoshi and feed it 5 Spinies the Lakitu drops down, and it will become an adult Yoshi. Now you can get Yellow Yoshi in the Top Secret Area and in the levels! Now, head right and you will get to a staircase of blue blocks. At the top, get the Yoshi Coin. Now, take a blue block and kick it up at the Lakitu. If it hits him, take his cloud. Now, get next to the exit pole and pick up a Blue Block. Now, enter the small gap and float under the exit pole. To the right of the exit pole are 3 Yoshi Coins. Grab them all for a 1-up and hit the exit pole. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SECRET EXIT If you got the exit pole, you'll need to do this level again. This time when you start the level, kick the blue block at Lakitu, and if it hits him, hop in his cloud. Now fly upward and you'll get to an opening, so enter it. Now hit the "?" block to the right and a key will come out. Grab it and shove it in the keyhole to the right. You will get to the next level now. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ------------- Star World 4 ------------- There is a Red Yoshi here if you didn't rescue one yet. Once you start the level, head right and hop from platform to platform until you get to a trio of rotating platforms with a Yoshi Coin on it. Grab it and then hop from platform to platform until you get to a column of flying Koopas flying up and down. To the left of them are platforms. Get on the lowest one and get the Yoshi Coin at the bottom. From here, get back up to the top platform. Back on here, getting past this large row of Yoshi Coins is very tricky. If you're little or Big Mario, getting through them is a real pain, you'll need to get onto the platform below you and jump from beneath the Koopas. Otherwise, you can Fire Flower them or Cape Whack them, and since they're Red Koopas, any Yoshi can eat one and spit fire out on the rest. Once you get past them, hit the "?" block for a Mushroom/Feather. Now get the third Yoshi Coin on the trio of spinning platforms to the right. Once you get that, head right and hop from platform to platform until you get to ANOTHER column of flying Koopas. You can use the same tricks to get past them, but you can also kick the Koopa shell next to you at them to create an opening. Once you get past the Koopas, head right and hop from platform to platform until you get to a trio of spinning platforms. Below you should be some red and green "!" blocks and next to you should be a Red Koopa Shell. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SECRET EXIT You must be Caped Mario at least if you want to get the secret exits. See the green and red "!" blocks below you? Use them as a bridge to get to the "?" block. Now, since the "?" block is on the ground, you'll need to Cape Whack the block to hit it. Otherwise, you can kick the Red Koopa Shell above you at it. Once you hit it, a key will pop out. Take it and shove it in the keyhole. You can now go to the next level. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! From here, stay on the trio of spinning platforms and use them to get on top of the orange pipe to your right. At the top is a Yoshi Coin, so grab it and drop back down to the ground below you. Down here, head right and you will get to large gaps. Now hop from platform to platform, using the trio of spinning platforms until you get to the exit pole. On the last spinning platform is the final Yoshi Coin. Grab it for the 1-up and hit the exit pole to the right. ------------- Star World 5 ------------- Coming here with a Blue Yoshi or Caped Mario is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Once you start the level, head right and you will get to gray platforms. When you step on them, they fall. So hop from them until you see the first Yoshi Coin. Grab it and continue right to another set. You will see the second Yoshi coin below a platform, so have that platform fall and grab the Yoshi Coin, then jump onto the gray platform to the right. Hop from each until you get to a P-Switch and a "?" block. Here's what to do. Hit the P-Switch and then the "?" block. Now get on top of the yellow blocks. A bridge will pop out of the blocks, so use the D-Pad to control where they go, so make it go all the way right. RUN ACROSS THEM ONTO A PLATFORM BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SECRET EXIT On this long bridge of brown blocks, make it long enough so you'll be fast enough to run. Now, before the brown blocks turn back to coins, run right and fly in the air. Stay very high in the level until you get to a hidden area with yellow "!" blocks. Get on them and run right. Slide past the gray block while ducking since it's too low for you to reach. Now, you will get to the row of green "!" blocks, red "!" blocks, and the blue "!" blocks if you got all Switch Palaces. Now, head all the way right until you get to the key, ducking and sliding past the low blocks and getting to each "!" block color set. Once you get to the key, take it and shove it in the keyhole. A star will appear above you, taking you to the Special World. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now, run all the way right before all the brown blocks turn into coins. You should see some coins turn to brown blocks, so quickly get on those and use those on platforms. Now head right and hop from platform to platform until you get to the gray platforms again, bouncing off the Koopas if you need to. Now, once you get to the gray blocks, bounce off the Koopas to get onto the yellow block platform above you. On here, grab the third Yoshi Coin and jump off to the right. From here, drop down to the gray platforms below you, and use them to get onto a platform with pipes on them. On here, head right and jump across the pipes. You will get to another set of gray platforms. At the last one, get the Yoshi Coin above you, and then have the platform drop so you can get the last one below you for the 1-up. Now hop onto the platform to the right. On here, take a Koopa Shell and kick it across the platform so you'll knock out all the enemies. Now head right and you will get to a higher platform, so jump to it. On here, head right and you will get to the exit pole, so hit it. <><><><><><><><> Special World <><><><><><><><> Here is your map of Special: YI--8--7--6--5-- \ SW--1--2--3--4-- / Map Key: SW: Star Road to Star World YI: Star Road to Yoshi's Island 1: Gnarly 2: Tubular 3: Way Cool 4: Awesome 5: Groovy 6: Mondo 7: Outrageous 8: Funky ------- Gnarly ------- Starting this level as Caped Mario/Luigi is highly recommended. Once you start the level, you will see green springs, so use them to get onto the platform above you. Above you should be 4 yellow blocks. On here, hit the block on the right and the second block to the left, and a vine will come out of each block. Climb the second one to the left and grab the Yoshi Coin at the top. From here, climb up the vine to the right. At the top, get the Yoshi Coin to your right and then hit the yellow block on the left, and another vine will come out, so climb it. At the top, get on the music blocks to your right, and bounce off of them so you can hit the yellow block for a Mushroom/Feather. Now, use the music blocks to get to the block to the left, and then get on the platform to the right. On here, jump in the gap to the right and if you are Caped Mario, float down to the right until you see a Pipe. Below the pipe is a Yoshi Coin, so grab it. Now float slightly to the left and you'll get to the next Yoshi Coin. From here, float to the right and you'll see the final Yoshi Coin, so grab it for a 1-up. Now drop down until you hit the ground. From here, enter the green pipe to the right. Out here, hit a blue P-Switch and the silver one to the left, and "?" blocks will appear. Now head right until you get to a flying Hammer Brother. Knock him from beneath the platform he's on, and then get on the platform and use it to get onto the higher platform to your right. On here, head right until you get to an exit pole Once you get to the exit pole, hit it and you will go right towards one of the hardest levels in the game. -------- Tubular -------- THIS IS ONE OF THE HARDEST LEVELS IN THE GAME. YOU HAVE TO BE VERY CAREFUL. THERE ARE P BALLOONS HERE BUT THOSE ARE TOO SLOW FOR YOU TO GET BY. YOU NEED TO ENTER THE LEVEL WITH A BLUE YOSHI, CAPED MARIO, AND AN EXTRA FEATHER. Once you start the level, head right until you get to a P-Switch, jumping from pipe to pipe, getting the first Yoshi Coin and jumping past the jumping Chargin' Chucks. Do not let them hit you or you'll lose Yoshi, which you'll really need. Now, press L so you can see more to the right, and then see that "?" block? Jump and quickly get onto it by floating. There is a Yoshi Coin below you, but ignore it. Now, jump and float to the right and you should bounce off a Chargin' Chuck's head that's throwing baseballs at you, getting a Yoshi Coin as well (you should bounce off the second enemy you see). If your P-Switch music is still in effect, there should be a platform of brown blocks to your right. Get on it before they turn to coins and have your Blue Yoshi eat a Red Koopa. If there are coins there, float to the Koopas, try to get one and hope you're lucky. Now, fly to the right and you will see a Yoshi Coin between two lava spitting enemies. Knock the bottom one out from hitting the "!" block with Yoshi's head, and then get the Yoshi Coin. From here, fly right and you will get to some Chargin' Chucks kicking footballs at you. Dodge them and continue right, grabbing the two Yoshi coins above the lava spitting enemies for 1-ups (hit the "?" block they're on to get rid of them). Now, you should still have your wings, so fly right until you see the exit pole. If you can't get to it in time, jump off Yoshi and float to the right, and hit the exit pole. Beating this level takes a lot of practice, so I give my heart out to you if you have trouble beating it. Once you get it, you beat the hardest level in the game! Congratulations! Now you go east to another fun level. And it's Way Cool! --------- Way Cool --------- This level is Way Cool if you got the right and cool stuff...well, the first part that is. Starting the level with any Yoshi AND Caped Mario is highly recommended. Once you start the level, head right and get on the yellow platform. Now hit the On switch so the route will switch Direction. From here, ride this until you get to the first Yoshi Coin, and then grab it. Now, hit the next switch so it says "On" so you won't kill yourself. From here, let this yellow platform ride you to the end of the wire, collecting the two Yoshi Coins in the path. At the end of the ride, drop down to the platform below you. Down here, YOU MUST HAVE YOSHI OR YOU CANNOT GET ALL THE YOSHI COINS. Otherwise, you'll have to work to get to the end of the level, getting past annoying Fuzzies and using Ropes to dodge them, and there will only be one Yoshi Coin. From here, head right and you will get to a "?" block. Hit it and Yoshi Wings will come out. If you have Yoshi, grab them and you'll go to heaven. Otherwise, you'll have to head right dodging stuff from hell. In heaven, there are 5 Yoshi coins, and if you collected all 3, that's more than enough for additional 1-ups here. Get all the Yoshi Coins for 1-ups here, and then drop down to the pit below you. You will go right to the next level called "Awesome". This level is not Awesome. -------- Awesome -------- This level is not "awesome" whatsoever. Bringing a Feather and a Blue Yoshi is highly recommended if you are not skilled with dodging and slippery platforms. Once you start this level, head right and use the opening bridge of yellow blocks to get onto the platform above you. On here, head right into the pit and get onto the platform above you at the end. From here, jump in the pit and collect the first Yoshi Coin, and then get out of the pit and continue right. From here, jump into the next pit, get out of it, and head right until you get to another pit. Jump over it and grab the second Yoshi Coin. From here, head all the way right until you get to a P-Switch. Once you get to a P-Switch, take it all the way right, dodging the Rex enemies and Koopas until you get to a gap. Once you get to a gap, jump over it, and you should be on a purple platform. On here, hit the P-Switch to turn the brown blocks into coins, and use them to hit the "?" block above you. A much needed star will come out, so grab it. Now, run all the way right until you get to the exit pole, knocking out the giant Bullet Bills and jumping fish in your way. Try to hit as many as you can for many 1-ups, much watch out for the slippery platforms. Also grab the final three Yoshi Coins for 1-ups as you progress along. Jump from gap to gap and be careful when jumping over the large gap. Once you get to the exit pole, hit it. Now you will go to the second half of the Special World for a groovy level. ------- Groovy ------- Once you start the level, kick the Koopa out of his shell and kick the shell to the "?" block to the right and a random Yoshi will come out, so grab it. Now get the Yoshi Coin to your right and head all the way right until you get to a Pokey. If you have your Yoshi, gobble it up otherwise jump over it (it will be smaller if you don't have a Yoshi). Once you get past it, head right and jump over the gap, and you will get to a multi block. Hit it when it shows a feather and it will turn into a star, so grab it to become invincible. From here, head all the way right until you get to a gap, getting past the loads of Pokeys and getting the second Yoshi Coin once you see it too. Now, once you see the gap, jump onto the green pipe and watch out for the fire spitting Piranha Plant, and then get to the third Yoshi Coin. From here, jump onto the platform to your right. On here, head right and you will get to a set of platforms. Each platform has a Pokey on it. Get past them or have Yoshi eat them, and then get onto the highest platform. On here, jump over the blue pipe to the right and then get on the slanted platform. On here, get onto the platform to the right, where the Chargin' Chuck is throwing baseballs at you. Get the Yoshi Coin in the air to the right and then drop down to the ground below you. Down here, get past the Pokeys and get the final Yoshi Coin for a 1-up. From here, head right and you will get to two yellow pipes. Each of them has a Chargin' Chuck throwing baseballs at you. Once they stop, jump on each of their heads so they'll stop throwing baseballs, and then head right to hit the exit pole. You'll go west to another fun level. ------ Mondo ------ A really fun level where the water you're in rises and lowers. Once you start the level, swim right and you will get to a yellow pipe. Get past all of the fish and the Hammer Bro, and then hop over the pipe. From here, the water should be rising, so swim right and you will get to a "?" block. Hit it and a Mushroom/Feather will pop out, so grab it. Now swim right and jump past the blue pipe. From here, head right and the water should be falling. Now go right and you will get to the first Yoshi Coin. Grab it and then knock the Hammer Bro off of his platform, and then use it to get past the pipe to your right. From here, swim right and you will get to 3 "?" blocks. The third one has a Yoshi, so grab it if you want, and then get the Yoshi Coin on the highest platform to the right. From here, swim right and enter the first blue pipe you see. In this secret room, slide down the hill to the right, collecting all the coins. At the bottom, grab the Yoshi Coin and enter the pipe. Back out here, go/swim all the way right until you get to a few rows of "?" blocks. At the bottom is the fourth Yoshi Coins, so dodge/knock out the fish and then grab it. From here, go/swim right and you will get to the final Yoshi Coin. Grab it for a 1-up and then knock the Hammer Bro off the platform above you, and then use it to get onto the higher platform to the right. On here, enter the green pipe next to you. In here, hit the exit pole and you will go to another annoying level. ----------- Outrageous ----------- This is another really annoying level and it will make you Outrageous if it is bad enough to you. Coming here as Luigi is recommended, and have a cape with you too. Once you start the level, head right and jump over the Wiggler. Now jump over the gap to the right and you will get to flames jumping around. Only Yoshi can eat these, so eat them to get rid of them, and then get the Yoshi Coin to the right. From here, head right and you will get to a set of cannons. Pick up the trampoline or put it in Yoshi's mouth and jump over them. From here, head right, and dodge all of the set of cannons until you get to the next Yoshi Coin. Once you get it, pick it up, and spit out the trampoline so Yoshi won't eat it, and then put it back in your mouth. From here, head right until you get to the third Yoshi Coin. Grab it, and then use the trampoline (not the one in your mouth/holding, this one) to hop over the Bullet Bill cannons, dodging all of the Bullet Bills fired at you. From here, go all the way right until you get to an orange pipe. YOU NEED THE FIRST TRAMPOLINE TO GET PAST THIS PART. Let go of it or have Yoshi spit it out, and then use it to hop over the orange pipe. From here, head right and you will get to a Hammer Bro. Knock it off its platform and then use it to get past the yellow pipe. From here, head right and Goombas and fish will pop out of the yellow blocks, so be careful. Now get the fourth Yoshi Coin and continue right. You should get to a "?" block. Hit it for a Yoshi/1-up because you'll really need it. Now jump over the next few sets of pipes and then head right until you get to another Hammer Bro. Knock it off its platform and then use it to hop over the blue pipe to the right. Now, hit the middle "?" block for a Mushroom/Fire Flower, and then grab it. Now, go all the way right until you get to the final Yoshi coin. Grab it for a 1-up and dodge the Bullet Bills. Now knock the Hammer Bro off its platform, get on it, and use it to get across the gap. Once you see the exit pole, hit it to get out of this annoying level. One more to go! ------ Funky ------ COMING HERE WITH YOSHI IS ETREMELY RECOMMENDED. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT COLOR, JUST BRING ONE. Losing your Yoshi here is like losing your credit card if you have one. Now, the reason is because you only start the level with 200 seconds on the timer, and there are green berries here. If Yoshi eats one, it will add 20 seconds to the timer, so grab every green berry you see! Once you start the level, head right and jump over the gap. Eat the first green berry you see for +20 seconds, and then head right and grab the first Yoshi Coin. Now, jump from gap to gap until you get to the next berry, and then eat it for +20 seconds. From here, head right and you will get to a Sumo Bro. Knock it from the "?" blocks below you, and then get on the platform it was on. On here, head right and eat the next green Berry for +20 seconds. Now hit the "?" block next to you for a Mushroom/Fire Flower, and then get on top of the "?" blocks to your right. On here, knock out the sumo Bro above you, and then spin jump through the yellow blocks you are on to your right. Down here, get the Yoshi Coin to your left and then head all the way right and jump over the gap. From here, head right and knock on the first Chargin' Chuck so he'll stop throwing baseballs at you. Then hit the next one before he sends the Super Koopas at you, which is really annoying. Now get on the blue blocks to the right. From here, use them to get onto the next platform. On here, head right and you will get to a green berry, so eat it for +20 seconds. Now, head right and jump from platform to platform until you get to another Chargin' Chuck, grabbing the next green berry. Knock him out and he'll send the Super Koopas at you again. From here, head right until you get to the fourth Yoshi Coin, jumping from platform to platform and dodging the annoying Super Koopas. Also get the green berry you see while you're at it. Once you get to the Yoshi Coin, grab it and then head all the way right. You will get to three Chargin' Chucks throing baseballs at you, but try to hit them and then get on the top platform. On here, get the final Yoshi Coin to the right, and then drop down to the ground below you. Down here, run all the way right and you will see coins that say "YOU ARE A SUPER PLAYER!!". Collect as many as you can and run right to the exit pole. Congratulations, you beat the Special World! And this is all 96 exits right here. If you followed my guide, enjoy the small cut scenes for collecting all the Yoshi Coins and if you got all 96 exits, watch the landscape change! Congratulations! Woo Hoo! I'm finally done with this guide! =========== 8. Enemies =========== Here are the list of enemies in alphabetical order. Each enemy has their own weaknesses which can be: 1. Spin Jumping on them to get rid of them for good (or to dodge them so you won't be hurt). 2. Jumping on them under any condition Mario/Luigi is in. 3. Firing them with a Fire Flower. 4. Whacking them with a cape. 5. Having them become Yoshi's lunch. Of course, all enemies don't have the same weakness. One may be vulnerable to one of the moves listed above and one may not. Go see for yourself. Amazing Flyin' Hammer Brother: In levels like Donut Plains 4, you will be using the platforms they are on to get onto higher platforms. From the silver platforms they stay on, they drop hammers at you for attacking, which may be a pain to dodge. To knock them out and use their platforms, hit them from beneath the platform to get them off, and you can use their platform now. Ball 'n' Chain: In many of the castles and fortresses, you will find these. These are balls on small chains that swing around in circles, and they do hurt you if they hit you. There is no way of knocking out or getting rid of these, just dodge these. Hitting the big ball will hurt you but jumping through the chains will not, so use those to your advantage. Banzai Bill: These are the really big Bullet Bills that appear very rarely in the game. Yoshi's Island 1 is where they appear the most. Hitting them on the head can easily knock them out, but if you don't pay attention to what's ahead of you, they may be a pain to dodge. As little Mario/Luigi, you can dodge these by ducking if they are slightly above the ground. Blargg: In Vanilla Dome 3, these are the dragon like enemies that hide in the lava. There is no way of knocking out these, so just ignore one. But if you see their eyes in the lava, they will come attacking at you, so just jump and make sure you land back on your sliding white platform otherwise you're fried. Blurps: These are the green fish you can only find in water levels. They swim around and they don't attack you or anything. They won't harm you unless you touch them. Using a Fire Flower or knocking them out with your Cape is the easy way to get rid of them, but using the Fire Flower is safer. Bob-omb: These are bombs that may be annoying in many of the later levels. In some levels like Donut Plains 4, they will come down from parachutes. After a few seconds of walking, they will stop and blow up, so make sure you're not in their exploding range. You can step on them or have Yoshi eat them to stun them and get rid of them. Bony Beetle: These kinds of enemies are only found in castles and fortresses. Some do nothing and just walk around. Others like to lay down and make a layer of spikes. So, if this happens, whack them with the Cape or jump on their back if the spikes aren't set, and they will crash down. So, whacking them with a cape is the only way to get rid of them to go. Boos: These are the small ghost you will find in every ghost house. If you look at them, they will stay where they are and they won't attack. If you turn your head away from them, they will come to attack you in the air. There is no way of getting rid of these, but if you can't avoid them, spin jump and it won't hurt if you touch them. Boo Buddies: In many of the ghost house levels, you will find circles of rotating boos. Each of them has their own stupid and funny faces to laugh at you. They rotate in a circle counter-clockwise direction. Also in that "circle" is a small opening. Once the opening comes to you, you can walk through it to get past all of these Boos. Touching them hurts you as well as spin jumping this time. Sorry. Bullet Bill: These are blasted out of black cannons, or they may be just flying across the screen. Just hit them on the top to get rid of them, and some may fly up to down or vice versa, so watch out. Sometimes when flying across the screen they may appear in groups. Buzzy Beetle: These are beetles that walk around on blue shells. Their shells are immune to a Fire Flower attack, so jump or whack them with your cape to stun them. After that, spin jump on his belly to get rid of him. Man, would've been fun is he was fatter. Chargin' Chuck: These guys are found in a lot of the levels, and they love sports. You will see them running around sometimes, or throwing baseballs at you, kicking footballs and soccer balls, and jumping really high in the air. 1 whack with the cape will get rid of them or 3 hits jumping. Dino-Rhino: In later levels around the Chocolate Island area, you will see plenty of these. These are rhinos that walk around and do nothing. There is no way of getting rid of these, hitting them will only shrink them and they will be able to attack. It may be best to leave them alone. Dino-Torch: Many of these come when you hit a Dino-Rhino and then they shrink. These are the smaller versions of a Dino-Rhino, found in the Chocolate Island areas. When these are little, they can look up in the air and spit fire, which may be a problem if you are bad at dodging. But if you want to get rid of these, jump stop on the top of their head when they're not breathing fire. Dry Bones: In the castles and fortresses, you will see plenty of these walking on the ground. Some just walk around and don't harm you. Other may throw bones at you, but they go in a straight line and they are easy to dodge. Hitting them will only stun them, so hit them and whack them with a cape to get rid of them. The only way to get rid of them. Eeries: In the Ghost House, you will find these blue ghosts flying across the screen. They don't appear in the early ghost houses but get more common in the later ones. These blue flying ghosts do nothing and usually fly right by you. Touching them hurts you, and touching them while spin jumping also won't hurt you if you can't avoid them. Fire: This only appears in one level, which is the Outrageous level. These can be pretty annoying. When you see these, they are this giant flame that jumps around and duplicates small bits of themselves. Touching these hurts you, and the only way you can get rid of these is to let Yoshi eat them (how can he eat fire?). If you don't have a Yoshi, you can spin jump on them so if you touch them, you won't be hurt. You cannot get rid of the smaller fires, but they will disappear, so don't worry. Fishbone: In the Vanilla Fortress, you will find these fish swimming in the water. They swim around and do nothing and there is no way to get rid of these. Just avoid these and let them be. Fishin' Boo: These are just like a Fishin' Lakitu, except more annoying and dangerous. Instead of a nice friendly 1-up Mushroom at the end of their fishing pole, it is some nice hot blue fire for you to play with. Try to avoid these annoying enemies in the ghost houses if you can, and they hang from a cloud like Lakitu. Dodging this enemy is pretty hard too. Fuzzies: These are small back enemies that like to slide themselves on those small gray block platforms (the ones with spinning platforms), found in Chocolate Island 3 and Donut Plains 3. There is no way of getting rid of these except for feeding them to Yoshi, and these may be pretty annoying to dodge since some of them annoy pretty fast. Goomba: In Super Mario World, these enemies have NO similarities in design whatsoever to the original Goomba. In these, they are harmless and don't attack. They don't appear very often and hitting them flips them over, so you'll need to spin jump to get rid of these for good. And I miss the old Goombas too... Grinder: These are found in the later castle and fortress levels. These are spiked wheels that spin around the ground and platforms. There is no way of dodging these, so let them be. However, if you do get surrounded by several of these, spin jump and it won't hurt if you touch them while spin jumping, and it's the safest way to get out of the trouble. Hothead: In castles and fortresses with rectangular platform, you may find these fireballs sliding along the platform edges. Touching them hurts you and they won't attack you. But if they come close and you can't dodge them, spin jump and it won't hurt you if you touch them while spin jumping. These may appear in groups so watch out. Jumping Piranha Plant: In levels with Warp Pipes, you may find these jumping out of the pipes a lot. Touching them hurts you and they don't directly attack you. Some Piranha Plants may spit out fire, which is easy to dodge. To get rid of these, have Yoshi eat them, attack them with your Fire Flower, or whack them with your cape. Also, they will not pop out of the pipe if you are on or right next to the pipe. Koopas: Your old standard Mario enemies. They come in 4 different colored shells: red, blue, yellow and green. Yoshi will get a special ability if he eats a certain color, like he can fly if he eats a Blue shell, do whatever he wants with a yellow shell, and fire fireballs with a red shell, so these can be useful. But if you see a Koopa jumping into a yellow shell, they will come invincible and move very fast in their shells. To knock them out of their shells, hit them from the top. If you whack them with your cape, they will be stunned for a few seconds. Otherwise, spin jump or Fire Flower them. Lakitu: These are enemies in clouds that fly around in the air and piss you off. You can find one of these in Forest of Illusion 4 and Star World 3. From their clouds, they will throw Spinies down at you, which may be a pain to dodge if he throws a lot of them. Hitting them on the top of their head will also get rid of the cloud, you if you want to ride in their cloud, do this: kick a Koopa Shell or a blue block at them and it will knock him out of its cloud or whack him with a cape. Now you can jump in its cloud and ride it around. Also there is a "Fishin' Lakitu". These kinds have fishing poles with a 1-up hanging at the edge of it. If you grab it, he will start throwing Spinies at you so it is a trap. Lil' Sparky: In castles and fortresses, these are the smaller versions of the hotheads, so that means these are faster and may be a little harder to avoid. These also slide on the rectangular platforms such as the ones in Castle #6. Touching these hurts you, and there is no way to knock these out. MagiKoopas: I always used to call these "wizards" when I was a little kid. In Castles #3 and #7, these will randomly teleport to get to you and blast magic at you. It can be pretty easy to dodge and their magic does turn blocks into enemies or get rid of them, so you'll need these enemies to do that to get past Castle #3. Hitting them on the top of their head will get rid of them, but that doesn't mean they're gone for good... MechaKoopas: In Bowser's castle and when fighting Bowser, you will be fighting these toy Koopas with a windup key on their back. Hitting them on the top will stun them and you can pick them up and kick them in the air, which is the way of beating Bowser when he tosses these enemies at you. Mega Mole: In the later levels like Valley of Bowser 1, you will find these enemies walking around. These are really huge Monty Moles that walk around and do nothing. You can even hop on their back and ride them across spike pits, which is really neat. But if you want to get rid of these cool enemies, whack them with your cape. All I have to say. Monty Mole: In levels like Yoshi's Island 2, these may be hiding in the walls of platform wherever you see weird movement. Once you get close to the weird movement, a Monty Mole may pop out of it. These enemies may be annoying if they appear in huge groups. They run around fast and they may hit you if you're not careful. To get rid of these, jump on their heads or whack them with a cape. Ninjis: Remember these jumping crazy enemies from Super Mario Bros. 2? Well, their back... in 1 level, which is Bowser's Castle. In the final room before Bowser, you will see plenty of these along with MechaKoopas. These just stay where they are and jump around and don't attack you, so avoiding them should be pretty easy. Hitting them on the top of their head should easily get rid of them if you want to do it. Nip Nips: In levels with small pits, you may find these annoying little enemies in them. They always stand upward with their mouths opening and closing. If you fall into the pits and touch these, you get hurt, so be careful. Also, they always stay where they are and do not move, like fount in Donut Secret 2. There is no way of getting rid of these enemies whatsoever, but you can walk on them if you're riding on Yoshi or if you are Invincible. Para-Bomb: These are bob-ombs that come down to the ground with their little parachutes, found in some of the levels. Once they hit the ground, they will walk around and after a few seconds they will stop and explode, so just make sure you're not in their exploding range. Besides exploding, Yoshi eating a Bob-omb is the only way to get rid of them for good. Pokey: In mainly flat levels you may find plenty of these, such as in the level in the Special World "Mondo". These have 4 blocks on them stacked and the top one is their head. Touching them anywhere hurts you and the only way of getting rid of one of these enemies is to have a Yoshi eat all parts of this enemy. Porcu-Puffer: In levels like Vanilla Secret 2 where you use the jumping dolphins to get across the level, you will run into these enemies as well. These are big oversized fish like the ones found in Yoshi's Island (the game, not the world smart one), so touching their spikes hurts you. Just ignore these and try to jump around if they get close to you. These can be really annoying sometimes. Rex: In the first level of the game you will find plenty of these. These are small dragon like enemies that walk around and do nothing. They are fairly slow and hitting them will shrink them to half their size and lose their head. This also causes them to run around faster. After hitting them a second time they will be gone for good. Or you can get rid of them any other way with your Capes and Fire Flowers. Reznor: This was listed in the game, so I'll say it here. Each time you go to a fortress you will fight these at the end of the fortress. They are in a group of four and each one is on their platform. To beat them, you must knock them from beneath the platform you're on. After you hit 2, the platform you're on starts collapsing, so you'll need to get on one of the empty platforms. Rip Van Fish: In the water levels, you will find these fish sleeping. When you get close to them, they will wake up and try to charge and attack you. Try to go slowly past these enemies and not too fast so you won't alarm them. Since you are in the water, the only way of getting rid of these is a Fire Flower or Cape-Whacking. Spike Top: In underground areas you may find plenty of these. These enemies can go anywhere. Walk up on the walls, on the ceiling, and very slowly too. As their name describes, they are red enemy with a spike on the top of them (you should know this anyway). These enemies are immune to Fire Balls and so the only way of getting rid of these suckers are having Yoshi eat them or Cape- whacking. Spiny: Just like the Spike Tops as far as design goes but these have a lot of differences. First, these appear in many flat levels like Chocolate Island 5. These have 3 spikes on their heads and Spinies aren't immune to fire. You can get rid of these with Fire Flowers, Cape-whacking, and to have them being Yoshi's lunch. If there is a level with Lakitu, expect him to be throwing a lot of these. These also turn into silver coins when you hit a P-Switch and causes this effect. Sumo Brother: In levels like Cookie Mountain and Funky, you will find these on top of "?" blocks or any other type. These pound the platform they're on and causes fire on the ground below them, so watch out. To get rid of these enemies, knock them out from beneath the block they're on. This can only be done with "?" blocks. Super Koopas: One of the most annoying enemies in the game. They also appear in the most annoying level, Butter Bridge 2. These are Koopas not in their shells that fly in the air, and in Butter Bridge 2 they may come in swarms too. If you see one with a flashing red cape, hit it and a feather will come out, so grab it at your own wish. At least these enemies have some sort of useful purpose. Swoopers: These appear a lot in Vanilla Dome and in other underground levels. You will see these bat-like creatures sleeping on the ceiling and when you come close to them they will wake up and swoop down at you quickly. You can knock out this enemy using any method you like, except running that is. That includes stomping them on the head. The Big "Boo": Just like the description says. These are giant Boos found in some of the ghost houses. When you look at them they will stay where you are and when you turn your back to them they will come closer and try to attack you. Dodging them can be tough since Mario and Luigi can't jump over them quickly. There is no real way to get rid of them except using the Blue Blocks to hit one 3 times to get to Star Road in Donut Plains. Thwimp: These are the small versions of the Thwomp found in the castles and fortresses. These like to hop around the area and try to hit you. Since these are made of stone, there is pretty much no way of getting rid of these. They can be fast at moving too so watch out, and it may be hard to dodge them if they are in large groups. Thwomp: The larger version of the Twimp found in castles and fortresses. When you get close to them, they will drop down from the ground and try to hit you, so you can have an easy time dodging them. There is no way of getting rid of these and just wait until he rises in the air to get past and dodge him. Shouldn't be too much of a problem. Torpedo Ted: You only find these in one level, and they're pretty annoying. These are black rectangular objects that have a hand come out of them and launch a torpedo at you. There is no way of getting rid of the torpedo, and dodging it may be tricky if you are in a crowded up area. In parts of the level Soda Lake, these come out in groups so dodging them can be a real pain. Urchins: These appear in one level too, Forest of Illusion 2. In this water level, you will find this enemy moving up and down or left and right. Touching them hurts you and just wait for a few seconds until they move out of the way so you can swim right by them. To knock them out, throw a blue block at them and they will be gone in one hit. Volcano Lotus: In levels like Donut Plains 1 you will see these sitting on the ground not moving. After a few seconds, they will spit out 4 fireballs, which are pretty easy to dodge. But touching them anywhere hurts you, and the only way to get rid of these is a Fire Flower, Cape Whacking, or feed it to Yoshi. Wiggler: You will find these in the levels "Forest of Illusion 1" and "Outrageous". These happy worms walk around being harmless, but hitting them makes them turned red and they get pissed, so they run around like crazy. Besides doing that to piss them off, Yoshi eating them is the only way to calm them down. Those are all the enemies. =========================== 9. Unlockables and Secrets =========================== ------------ Unlockables ------------ Unlock Point Stars: For each time you get 1 million points on any file, a star will appear above "Super Mario World" on the game selection screen (between Super Mario World and Mario Bros.). You can have up to 5 stars maximum, so that would mean getting 5 million points on a file. Unlock Point Stars (Mario Bros): To unlock point stars for Mario Bros, you must get 150,000 points in Mario Bros for each star, and a star will appear on top of the Mario Bros logo on the game selection screen. You can have 5 stars maximum, which means getting a total of 750,000 points. Record your scores in the Special World: After you beat the Special World, the colors of Dinosaur Land will not change this time. Instead, what you get this that you will be able to save your scores for only in the Special World. They will be shown at the bottom of the screen and Mario and Luigi will have their own separate scores, so don't worry. -------- Secrets -------- Replay Castles and Fortresses: You notice that once you beat a castle or a fortress you cannot play it again. So this is bad if you didn't collect all the Yoshi Coins in that castle/fortress. To be able to replay castles and fortresses, just beat the game. You don't need to beat all levels, just go to Bowser's Castle and beat him. After that, all fortresses and castles will have white flags on the map. This means you can go in and play that castle/fortress whenever you want. Change Yoshi coins to Peach Coins: Collect all 5 Yoshi Coins in each map and a cut scene will happen. All the Yoshi Coins will fall onto a platform and now they will change into Peach Coins. Peach Coins are in the same spots as Yoshi Coins, and collecting all of them doesn't give you anything. But you can use them for 1-ups and a higher score. Change Dinosaur Land Map Colors: In the Super Nintendo version, all you had to do was beat the Special World and the colors of Dinosaur Land would change (from summer like to fall like). In the GameBoy Advance version, you have to clear all 96 exits in this game and another cut scene will happen, changing the Dinosaur Land colors. Even some enemies will look different. Super Mario Bros. Music: Go to the Special World map. Now, don't enter any level and wait on the map for a few minutes. After a while, the music will change to the original Super Mario Bros. music. It will stop after you enter a level or exit the map. New Intro: Once you load up the game, you will see an intro of the game's story. At the end of the intro you will find Peach is missing. To change this, beat Bowser once and the intro will change to a peaceful scene. After Mario and Luigi explore Dinosaur Land in the intro, you will see Peach on one Yoshi and the other holding a basket. Make Fanicom Logo Appear in Special World: Beat all 8 levels in the Special World and the Fanicom Logo will appear on top of the map. To see it, press Left and use the D-Pad to scroll up on the map. New Yoshi Colors: In Star World, there will be a baby Yoshi of a certain color in each level. You can pick it up and carry it around. If you feed it 5 enemies, it will grow to a big Yoshi! Each color Yoshi has its own special stories, which I listed in my character list. Once you get a Yoshi, it will be available in the Top Secret Area. Getting the color Yoshi you want is what your condition is. If you are small or Big Mario/Luigi, the color you will get is random. If you are Fire Mario, it will be a Red Yoshi. If you are Caped Mario, it will be blue. But remember, you have to get a big Yoshi of that color at least once in Star World. ======================= 10. Mario Bros. Arcade ======================= Mario Bros. Arcade is a game that was included with all 4 Super Mario Advance. It is a game where you must knock out all enemies to clear out that phase. To play Mario Bros, load up your Super Mario Advance 2. Then, when you get to the game selection screen (when you pick between Super Mario World and Mario Bros.), select Mario Bros. Then, press Start to begin the game. First, here's a map of what every Phase looks like: XL --------- R ______ R | | __ | POW | __ _________| |P |______| P| |_________ |I I| _________ |P P| _________ |__|E E|__| -------------------------------- -------------------------------- G G ---------- ----------------------------------- --------- G G ---------------------------- ______ ------------------------------- | | | POW | |______| G __ __ G _________| |P P| |_________ |I I| _________ |P P| _________ |__|E X E|__| ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Note that on any floor, if you are on the far left/right part of that floor, you can walk right/left through the edge of the screen and you'll appear at the other side of the floor you're on. This can be useful for many things. Also remember that you can't enter any of the four pipes. Only enemies can. If they enter a pipe at the top of the screen, they'll come out of a pipe at the bottom of the screen and vise versa. Enemies will ALWAYS enter the pipes, so the area behind the pipes can be used for protection (so use them as an advantage), but you are still vulnerable to an icicle/fireball attack, so watch out. Key: X: Mario's Starting Point XL: Where Mario Starts when he loses a life on that phase G: Where Green Fireballs go. They appear at random times, and they slither across the screen and then disappear. R: Where Red Fireballs appear. They will not disappear until you hit them. They bounce around the top part of the map and sometimes they may be able to bounce onto the ledge below the top ledge, so watch out. PIPE: At the top of the screen, that's where enemies and coins come out of. At the bottom, undefeated enemies hop in, and they reappear at the top. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ How to defeat enemies: Get on the platform below them, and when the enemy is directly above you, jump on the ledge above you and it will knock certain enemies over, and they will be laying on their back. Then get on the platform they're on, and while they're still on their back, just bump the enemy to defeat it. Hint: You can bump the POW blocks from the bottom, stunning any enemy on the level (except Crabs). The enemies will be flipped over, and touching the POW block will get rid of icicles, fireballs, and will flip enemies over. How to clear phases: Defeat all the main enemies in that phase. You will advance to the next phase. Read my enemies section to see what enemies you will need to defeat. The Bonus Games: The Bonus Games are on these Phases: 4, 9, and every Phase 7 after Phase 9. On Bonus Games, you must collect all 10 coins visible in 20 seconds to win. When you collect all the coins, you will earn a 1-Up, and a point bonus. On Phase 4, the floors are normal. On Phase 9, the floors are made up of ice. All Bonus Games after Phase 9 have invisible floors, so study up on the invisible floors. Also, on Phase 4, the point bonus is 3000, and 5000 on all other Phases. Also on Phases 16 (and all other bonus games after that), you will only have 15 seconds to collect all the coins, and remember that these bonus games have invisible floors too. Here's a little summary of what happens as the game goes one: Phase 1: Spinies, Green and Red Fireballs Introduced Phase 4: Bonus Game (normal type) Phase 5: Crabs Introduced Phase 7: Fighter Flies Introduced Phase 9: Bonus Stage (Ice Ledges) Phase 10: Freezies Introduced Phase 16: Bonus Game (invisible ledges) Phase 17: Icicles fall from ledges, top floor frozen Phase 20: 2 Icicles now fall from ledges Phase 23: Bonus Game (invisible ledges) Phase 24: Enemies recover twice as quicker Phase 30: Bonus Game (invisible ledges) Phase 31: 3 icicles now fall from the ledges Phase 37: Bonus Game (invisible ledges, these continue every 7 Phases) Phase 40: 4 icicles now fall from ledges Phase 99: Phase counting stops, every Phase is now 99 when you beat this Phase --------- Controls --------- D-Pad: Move (Left: Go Left; Up: Nothing; Down: Duck; Right; Go Right) A: Jump; select things when paused B (Held, while moving): Run; pick up a POW Block (and throw them) L: Move screen up and down Start: Pause game Down + A: Super Jump (to do a Super Jump, hold Down until you see Mario flash. Then, jump. Mario's jump will be much higher than usual). -------- Enemies -------- So, after you flip enemies over, you kick them off the level by touching them on the platform their on. But if you're too late to kick them, they'll be on their feet again, on a new color, and they will be faster too. Starting from Phase 24, enemies will recover much quicker once they're flipped over. Enemies you must defeat to win the phase: Spiny: The first enemy you'll see. These are slow, and all you need to do is flip them over and kick them off the screen. After a few seconds once you've flipped them, they will recover, and they will turn green (then blue), and they will be faster. First found in Phase 1. Crab: In order to defeat these enemies, you'll need to bump them twice to flip them over. Then go and kick these over. Crabs are also a lot faster than Spinys. Just like Spinys, they will turn green when they recover from being flipped, and if that happens again, he'll be blue. First found in Phase 5. Fighter Flies: Slower than Crabs, but these jump around for movement. When flipped over, these can recover faster than usual. When recovering, they go green, then pink. They can only be flipped over when they land on the ground. First found in Phase 7. Enemies that you don't need to defeat: Freezies: These are made up of ice. If you're not quick enough, these can Freeze up a floor. First found in Phase 10. So, you can still get rid of these and earn points. Green Fireballs: These annoying suckers can be found in any phase. They randomly pop up on any side on the screen above a platform. Then, when these get to the other end of the screen, they disappear. Just like Fighter Flies, they move up and down during movement, so you'll need to time your jumps right to dispose of these. Red Fireballs: Just like Green Fireballs, they appear at any phase and they appear on random times. Except these won't disappear unless you time your jumps good to bump these. Sometimes, these will go fast. Icicle: Ok, these aren't really enemies. Starting at Phase 17, these fall from ledges. In order to get rid of these so they won't fall, hit the small circle on the ledge before it becomes an icicle, and then it will go away. You won't get any points for defeating these. -------- Scoring -------- For every 150,000 points you get in this game, a star will appear above the Mario Bros. title at the game selection screen (where you pick between Mario Bros. and Super Mario Brothers 3). You get up to 5 stars maximum (750,000 points needed). Also, the maximum score is 999,990. Here are score totals: Green Fireballs Points earned when defeating: 200 Red Fireballs Points earned when defeating: 1000 Fighter Flies, Crabs, Spinys Points earned when defeating any of these enemies: 800 Freezys Points earned when defeating: 500 Clearing Bonus Game (Phase 4) Total Points Earned: 11,000 Clearing any other Bonus Game Total Points Earned: 13,000 Flipping an enemy over Total Points Earned: 10 Knocking out 2, 3, or 4 enemies in a row Points Earned: 1,600, 2,400, 3,200 (anything after that is still 3,200, and you will earn 1-Ups too) Grabbing a Coin Points: 800 To get a coin, you'll need to defeat an enemy, and a coin will come out of the pipe. -------------------- Using the Pow Block -------------------- In every phase, there will be a POW Block at both the bottom and top of the phase. When you hit these from the bottom, the POW Block will stun any enemies in its path, collect all the coins visible, get rid of icicles, get rid of Freezies, and un-stun any stunned enemies. Once you hit the same POW Block 3 times, that POW Block will disappear, and it will comeback in the next Bonus Game. You can also pick up POW Blocks too. You have to get on top of that POW Block, and press B. You will pick it up. Press B again to throw it. When you are carrying a POW Block, you can get to another location on that Phase and throw it. It still will do its effects. ------------ Multiplayer ------------ In order to play Multiplayer, you will need these things: 1 GameBoy Advance Link Cable (2 for 3 player, 3 for 4 player) 2-4 GameBoy Advances (they can be a GBAsp) 2-4 Game paks (any Mario Advance game, they all have Mario Bros, and you can also use Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga too) ************************** How to play Multiplayer: ************************** Connect all the Link Cables (the one with the purple end connected to his/her GameBoy is Player 1, and you connect the other purple ends to the part that allows you to link up other Link Cables). Then, at the screen before the game selection screen, Player one will select Multiplayer. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Single Pak: It is possible to play Mario Bros. multiplayer with only 1 game pak. The GameBoy Advance Link Cable's purple end must be connected to the GameBoy Advance with the game in it. Then, turn on the game and configure your settings, then turn on the other GameBoy(s). On the loading page, you should see Mario running across the screen (when he gets to the other side it's done), and the game begins (this is also slower because of only use of 1 game pak. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Then, Player one will set up the game settings: Here are the settings: Classic (Cooperative play with 2-4 players) Battle (Battle with 2-4 players) If Player 1 selects Classic, he/she won't need to set any settings. If Player one selects battle, he/she sets these settings: Difficulty: Easy, Medium, and Hard. Different enemies appear depending on the difficulty. Handicap: Player 1 will select how many coins players will begin with at the start. Fireballs: Player 1 will select if there will be fireballs or not. While Player 1 is selecting the options, the other players must wait until he/she is finished. Once Player 1 is done and starts the game, the game will show you which player you are, and then you start. If you are having trouble playing Multiplayer: 1. You are using something other than a GameBoy Advance Link Cable on any of your connections. 2. There is a loose connection in a socket. 3. One of the players may have turned off the power. *************** Classic Mode: *************** Classic Mode can be played with 2-4 players. Classic Mode is like Cooperative Play, and all of the players must defeat all of the enemies to win. Just like single player, you go through the 99 Phases together with your friends. ************** Battle Mode: ************** In Battle Mode, the first player up to 5 coins wins (you can get coins by beating enemies, and then a coin will come out of a pipe). When playing with 2 Players, there will be a Garbage Can at the bottom of the screen. When someone jumps in the Garbage Can, they must keep pressing A to get out. They will come out with an item. Here are the possible items: Fish-bones: If you get this, throw these away. These do nothing. Koopa Shells: When you throw a Koopa Shell (by pressing B), it will defeat any enemies in its way and shrink/defeat players. POW Block: By throwing these, these will stun anything that are on the platforms, allowing you to defeat enemies or pick up other Players. These items come in eggs, and are random when coming out of the egg (you throw the egg to have the item come out). Star: When throwing these, go and touch these to become invincible. You will defeat any enemies in your way, and defeat/shrink other players. Coin: Get these. You'll need them to win. Heart: If you are small, you can use these to become big again. When you get hit while you're big, you'll become small. If you're hit while you're small, you're out of that round. When all but one player is out of that round, the player remaining will win. When a player wins 5 rounds, they win the whole thing. Another way of winning is by collecting 5 coins. Note: When playing with 3 or 4 players, there will be no Garbage Can, so you will have to collect the 5 coins by defeating enemies. Have fun! ==================== 11. SNES/GBA Changes ==================== Here are the changes of SNES/GBA: New Intro at the beginning of the game: When the game boots up, you will see a friendly story of Mario, Luigi, and Peach going to Dinosaur Land for a vacation, and while Mario and Luigi fly around the island, Peach gets kidnapped by Bowser. Your lives, status, and score gets saved: Instead of starting the level as little Mario, score at zero, and only 5 lives, the game will save your score, lives, and status when you quit, and it will still be the same when it loads up. So if you saved as Fire Mario with 5,000 points, it will still be the same. Keep in mind it is the same for Luigi too. Mario/Luigi can now talk: Another big difference in this game. They don't talk much, and Luigi uses his voice from Mario Kart 64. Like when they get a power up, beat a level, or when they get hit, they'll shout something out like "Ha ha! Just what I needed!" Getting hit now makes you big Mario: In the SNES version of Super Mario World, getting hit would take you to little Mario, and then the item would drop out of the item box from above. In the GBA version, getting hit makes you big Mario, and the item does not drop out of the item box now. Another thing that made this game easier. You can now Save anywhere: Yep, you don't have to beat a Ghost House, Switch Palace, or a Castle in order to save your game now. You can save anywhere on the map. All you do is it start and save. And you can save as many times as you want so feel free to do so if you are not great at this game. Level Status Feather on Map Screen: If you are on the map and press Select, a little list will come down. This will be a list of the levels you've done, and if there is a coin next to the level, it means you got all the Yoshi Coins. The two square boxes means it has a secret exit, and the M/L means if you beat it with Mario and Luigi. Useful if you don't know which exits you haven't cleared. You can now get different colors Yoshis at the Top Secret Area: Instead of having to go to Star World every single time to get a colored Yoshi, you can now get them at the Top Secret Area! Once you rescue the colored Yoshi at least once, it will be available at the Top Secret Area. It will be random if you are big/little Mario, red if you are Fire Mario, and blue if you are Caped. Very useful. You cannot play Casltes/Fortresses after beating them: In the Super Nintendo version of this game, you could use the L+R trick to redo a castle/fortress after beating it. Now you can't do it in the GBA version. If you want to replay a castle you've already done, you have to beat Bowser's Castle to do it. You will now be able to do any castle you want. Some Changes to the music in the game: There were some small changes to the game's music, and there is some noticeable. The Vanilla Dome, Forest of Illusion, and the Valley of Bowser have huge changes in the music, because you can really compare the GBA's audio to an SNES, which has a lot more in it. So music was toned down here and there. Yoshi Coins are now in every level: In the SNES version of this game, Yoshi Coins were only in certain levels, and some levels didn't even have up to 5 Yoshi Coins as well. But now in the GBA version, 5 Yoshi Coins are in every level now except Bowser's Castle, and this includes castles, fortresses, and ghost houses. You can now record your score for the Special World: If you beat the Special World, the colors of Dinosaur Land won't change this time. Instead, you will now be able to keep your own scores in the Special World, and they will be shown at the bottom of the screen. Also, Mario and Luigi will have their own separate scores and they won't have the same scores like in normal gameplay. There are Peach Coins in this game now: Once you collect all of the Yoshi Coins, a small cut scene will happen and the Yoshi Coins will change to Peach Coins. They are the same thing as Yoshi Coins, but collecting all of them doesn't do anything. They are in the same locations as Yoshi Coins but you can collect them for more 1-ups and a higher score. Even if you collect all of them in the same level, they'll still be there. Mario Bros. Arcade now in this game: You can play Mario Bros. in this game. This is the game where you knock out all the enemies to beat the level, and you knock out the enemies by hitting them from the platform beneath them and then going up to kick them. There are 99 phases and it stays at phase 99 after that. You can get stars for collecting 1 million points: For each 1 million points you get, a star will appear at the top of the game selection screen. You can get up to 5 stars maximum, which is a total of 5 million points to be collected. The maximum amount of coins you can get is 999,990 points. A star will appear on top of the Mario Bros. logo for each 150,000 points you get. You need to beat all 96 exits to change the Dinosaur Land colors: Instead of beating the Special World to change the colors in the SNES version, you have to clear all 96 exits in the game to change the colors, and then a little scene will happen. These even includes exits that take you nowhere, like in Star Road, Forest of Illusion and Chocolate Island. =========== 12.
