Golden Sun 2: The Lost Age - Written by doctorbob26 - Version 1.2 FAQ / Walkthrough (GBA) - Email: doctorbob6@yahoo.com - 7/8/02 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Written for 79 characters per line display IMPORTANT NOTE: This guide is for the Japanese version of Golden Sun 2: The Lost Age. It will not include any of the storyline of the game unless it's visual, as I do not speak a word of Japanese. While this is currently the Japanese version, it will be adjusted to fit the American version once it comes out. ANOTHER NOTE: In this guide, I have assumed that you have played Golden Sun 1. Be aware of this as I may not fully cover -everything- that was covered in the first game... I may, though. IF YOU CAN TRANSLATE THE NAMES OF THE TOWNS FOR ME, I WOULD BE VERY GRATEFUL. I tried translating myself but always got stuck at the Kanji characters. ___________________ / TABLE OF CONTENTS \ / \________________________________________________________ A - Introduction 1 - To Game 2 - To Guide B - Basics 1 - Controls 2 - Towns 3 - Start Menu 4 - Field Menu C - Walkthrough 1 - Beginning 2 - Town1 3 - Town2 D - Other (mainly legal stuff) 1 - Contact Me 2 - Thanks 3 - Disclaimer 4 - Copyright 5 - Websites 6 - Updates _________________ / A1 Introduction \ / To Game \__________________________________________________________ I am actually writing this part of the guide before I even have the game, so, I'd just like to say that I hope that this game is every bit as good as the first one. And from what I've heard, I won't be disappointed. _________________ / A2 Introduction \ / To Guide \__________________________________________________________ I hope to make this guide the second (yes, second) best guide there is availible for this game. I've seen ikillkenny's work... I just can't compare, so I'll settle for second. I hope this guide is posted as I wanted to write a guide for the first game, but I got the game a little to late. Maybe this one will work out. I hope so. ____________ / B1 Basics \ / Controls \_______________________________________________________________ Here are the basic controls for the game. All uses are not listed here, but most are. D-pad: Move character. Toggle menus. A: Select. Talk. Menu. B: Cancel. B(Hold): Run. L: Use Set Psynergy. Zoom Out. R: Use Set Psynergy. Map. Start: Pause Menu. Select: Menu. Toggle Maps. YES/NO QUESTIONS - Yes is -always- on the left and no is -always- on the right ___________ / B2 Basics \ / Towns \________________________________________________________________ There are towns scattered through-out the world of Golden Sun. Each one has a few basic things. If you havent played the first game, you may not understand these things in Japanese. -Inn- You can tell that a place is an inn because it will have a little sign that says "INN" near the door. At an inn, you can restore the HP and EP of all non-dead characters for a minor cost. The cost is the -only- number that you see when you talk to the inn keeper. He asks you if you would like to stay or not. -Item Shop- The symbol for an item shop is a little brown vase. At an item shop, you can buy various... items (big surprise, eh?). Items include anything that is not a weapon or armor. On the menu that you see, the first option is Buy. If you choose buy, you will see a list of the stock that the store has, with price tags attached. The number on the right side of the screen is the amount of money that you currently have. If you choose to buy an item, you get to choose which character will recieve that item. In the inventory box, the number on the top-left is the number of that item that the character currently has. After you select a character to give it to, you can choose the quantity of the item. The cost is on the right. The next menu item is the sell button. You just choose the character that has the item that you want to sell, the item and the quantity of the item to sell. Be warned that items sell back for 3/4 of what they were sold to you for. The next menu is the artifacts menu. It works exactly the same as the Buy menu, except there won't be items there until a bit later on. The final menu is the repair menu. It does what it says. If you have a broken item, bring it there and you can get it fixed. -Weapons and Armor Shops- The symbol for the weapons and armor shops is a sword on a red background. At a weapons shop, you can buy various... things that will increase your attacking abilities. And at the Armor shop, you can buy various things that will increase your defense. For both, the menus are exactly the same. On the menu that you see, the first option is Buy. If you choose buy, you will see a list of the stock that the store has, with price tags attached. The number on the right side of the screen is the amount of money that you currently have. If you choose to buy an item, you get to choose which character will recieve that item. In the box on the right hand side, you will see the current stats for the character and how the item would affect the character when equipped. If there is just text in that box, the character can not equip that item. The cost is on the left. After choosing which character will recieve that item, the shop-owner will ask you if you want to equip that item now. If you do equip it now, you will then be asked if you would like to sell the item that you had previously had equipped for that character. After that, you may be given a ticket. Keep all the tickets on one character to save space. -Sanctum- In a sanctum, if you talk to the priest there it will bring up a menu. The first option is to revive a fallen character. The next option is to cure poison. After that is to remove a curse from a character. And the last option is to remove a cursed item from a character. By now, you should be able to figure out how to use all of these things. ______________ / B3 Basics \ / Start Menu \_____________________________________________________________ The start menu can be accessed by pressing (obviously) start. There are three items on the start menu. I will now describe them. -Save- The first option is to save the progress of your game. You can select the slot that you save the game into. If you choose a slot that already has saved data in it, you will be asked if you are sure you want to overwrite the previous data. -Sleep Mode- The second option is to go into sleep mode. This basically saves the battery so you dont have to shut it off. To get out of sleep mode, press the L and R buttons together. -Options- The first option on the option menu is to change the window color. Change it with left and right. Next is to change the brightness of the screen. Again, change with left and right. Next is text speed. The left is the slowest and the right is the fastest. Next is speech - off/on. Speech is the little beeps that you hear when there is dialouge. Finally, Auto Sleep - off/on. If auto sleep is on, after leaving your GBA idle for a few minutes it will automatically go into sleep mode. ______________ / B4 Basics \ / Field Menu \_____________________________________________________________ To get to the Field menu, you can either press the A button or the select button. There are a number of options on the Field Menu. I will now describe them. -Party Status- On the top of the screen, you will see the basic status of your party. On top is their names listed with the HP and EP (Psy Points) of each character under that. Psy Points recover through walking. -Psynergy- On the bottom menu, the first option is to use field psynergy. Field Psynergy is any psynergy that can be used out of battle. To use a psynergy, just select the character and the psynergy. Not very complicated. I will put more information on psynergy once I finish the walkthrough part of the guide. -Djinn- On the djinn menu, you can do a number of things. You can set djinn on either set (white) or standby (red) you can change between the 2 by pressing the R button. When in Set, a djinni can be used in battle, using their own attack. When in standby, a djinni can be used to summon. If a Djinni is used in battle while on set, it will then go to standby. After it is used on standby, it will go into recovery (yellow). When in recovery, you can't use that Djinni for one turn. Also, the more djinni that you have on standby, the more powerful the summon will be. Also, if a djinni is on standby in battle, you can change it to set, but it will occcupy that characters turn. So, let me refer to the Golden Sun 1 Instruction booklet for a nice diagram of all this: -------------------- Status 1: Set<------------------- | ^ | | | -Walk around for a while | | -Wait one turn in battle -Use Djinn command to | ^ put Djinn on Standby | | -Use the Djinn battle | Status 3: Recovery command | ^ | -Use field or battle | | commands to set Djinn Use the summon V _________________| Battle command Status 2: Standby____________________________________________| The next thing about Djinn is the trading part. You can exchange Djinn between characters or give djinn from one character to another. There are just a few basic rules. The maximum difference between the number if djinn that 2 characters have is 1 djinni. For example, you can not have one character with 5 djinn and one with 2. One character would have to have 4 djinn and the other, 3. Djinn also affect psynergy. I won't get into this in this section because it is very long, but beware that if you put a djinn with a character that has a different element the psynergy will change. Doing so could give you better psynergy and a better class, but this is for another time. I will talk about djinn more after I finish the walkthrough section of the guide. But for now, this should be enough to help you. The last thing that I would like to say in this section is that if you press select on the Djinn menu, it will bring up a help menu. Unfortunatly, this is no help to us... -Items- The third menu of the field menu is the Items part. In the items section, you can use items, equip and unequip items, get information about an item, organize items, etc. When you select an item, it wil bring up a window of 6 options (though some will be greyed-out). The options are this (going left to right): Use. Equip. Details. Give. Unequip. Drop. All of those are completely self-explanitory, so you should figure them out. When looking indepth at the tiems of a character, you can change characters by pressing L or R. If you want to arrange the items a character has, press and hold L, and press A to arrange the items in a few different ways. You can also press and hold R to see all of the gear that is currently equipped on a character. As for what item does what, you have to figure that out for yourself, though I may late include an item guide. That's all I got on items for now. -Status- The last menu is the status menu. This one shouldn't be hard to figure out. Here, we see (when we press A on a character, that is) a picture of the character, the class of the character, and the status alignment of the character. Next column. Here there is name, exerience points (hover cursor over this to see how many experience points are necessary to reach the next level), HP, and EP. Next Column. Here, we see the Attack, defense, agility, and luck ratings for each character. Djinn Information. We seein the first row, the number of each type of djinn that this character has. Second row - Djinn Level. Thrid row - Character's power with that djinn. Last row - characters resistance to that djinn. Press L or R to switch characters. Press the A button to look at the psynergy of each character. ________________ / C1 Walkthrough \ / Beginning \___________________________________________________________ Well, here we are at the beginning of the game. You will see a picture of Felix and some Japanese characters. Name him as you like, but I would suggest going to the top option on the right to toggle between Japanese and English (the middle button on the right is delete and the bottom is end). After you name him, press select 3 times so that you can now name Jenna, Sheba, and Picard, in that order. Before you go on to name them, enter in these directions on the d-pad (in this order): Up, Down, Up, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Up, Right, Down, Left, Up, Select. For both if you have entered them right, you should hear a slight bell sound. Now go on to name the other characters. Unfortunately, the game only supports 5 characters per name in English, so you will have to name Picard "Picar". Now, you will see a yes or no question. This is asking you if you want to transfer data from Golden Sun 1. Unless you have the Japanese version of GS1, choose the second option to say no. If you do have the Japanese version and it is beaten, choose the first option. Now, you see 2 more options. The first is to transfer data using a pass code that you can get from GS1. The second is the option to transfer the data via link cable. If you use a pass code, after selecting the first option, you will see a bronze, silver, and gold medal. Choose the corresponding medal according to GS1 and enter the passcode. If you want to use a link, choose the second option on the previous menu and connect the 2 GBAs to send the data. Now onto when you choose the names for the party of GS1. If you entered the code that I previously said, you will be able to name Issac, Garet, Ivan, and Mia, in that order. Otherwise, you will only be able to name Issac. Now you will see a story scrolling down on the screen (with some nice background art, might I add). Hold the B button to scroll through faster. I'm guessing this is telling the story from GS1 (I'm guessing from the background, so I may be wrong). Now, finally some scripted english text :) Then, we see Kraden, Felix and Jenna in the Venus lighthouse. Felix unblocks the way and leaves. Alex shows up. They talk for a while... Then, Kraden and Alex join Jenna's party. You now have the mission of getting out of the lighthouse before it collapses. Head through the door on the left, then follow the path to take the door on the bottom. Then, just keep on walking down until you get out of the Venus Lighthouse. Then walk down some more and you will see some guards that block your way. You will press a or b for a while scrolling through the conversation, then Alex uses his psynergy to send / scare off the guards and leaving with them. Kraden then rejoins your party. You have to walk out the West exit now, as Kraden will not let you walk out the east exit. You now have to face a guard... your first battle :). Do as you will with him, it is nearly impossible to lose against him. Use psynergy for an easy win. Now, walk right past him and into Suhulla Gate. Just take the path east, up the stairs to fight another guard. Once again, just use the top psynergy for an easy win. Continue through the divider. After the divider, Walk left, down two vines and then to the right. You will now have to fight 3 guards that were hiding in the cave. Use 3 of your second psynergy to defeat them. Now, go into the cave. Go through the only door in that room. Follow the path to the psynergy crystal. You will be ambushed by a monster. One of your first psynergy will defeat it. Continue to follow the path and go out of the cave. After getting out, Kraden will come out and begin to look at the sunken ship that you now see. He will walk around it, inspecting it. Eventually, Alex will come out of the cave and join in on the conversation. You will now see the Venus Lighthouse begin to shake and eventually fall. Everything will shake and Kraden and Jenna will fall down and part of the world will be detached, becoming an island. We now see Jenna and Kraden talking... while still on the ground. Soon, Alex will come and call them over the the shore of the island. Sheba and Felix have washed up on the shore. Now, the screen will fade out going to the normal title page. Press A to resume the game. They will talk some more... and eventually, Sheba will get up, shortly followed by Felix. Then after some more talking, you will see the world map and a giant wave will overcome the island. Soon, Felix will get up and shake himself off. Go and talk to Jenna, Kraden, and Sheba to have them join your party. Now, walk to the left to see that the island has been reconnected to the main land. Keep walking to get to the World Map. ________________ / C2 Walkthrough \ / Town1 \___________________________________________________________ Now, I would suggest that you heal Jenna, using Felix's cure psynergy, should she have taken any damage. Travel south to the first town you see. Right now, this town will be know as "Town1" as I don't nkow any Japanese. If you can help me, please do. Town1 has some very nice music, quite an improvement from the past game. Stock up on some weapons and armor if you want. Some herbs may also help. In the basket in the upper right hand corner of the level, you can find a free herb :) When you are done with the town, head out the south exit. ________________ / C3 Walkthrough \ / Town2 \___________________________________________________________ We are once again on the World map. You will see a small blinking red thing flying around. That is a Djinni. You talk to him for a while and eventually (after explaining how to use djinn...like we can understand...), he will join your party. His power is much like Flints. Is he Flint? I dont know, but I don't think so. Now, we are on the World Map, but where do we go? Feel free to look around anywhere you can, coming back to town1 as needed for healing. But to get to where you should go, follow these directions. From where you got Earth-djinn1, go south then to the left and south again, as soon as you can. Take the brige on the right and travel north-east to get to "Town2". Yes, I know this isn't a town, but for the purposes of this guide, it is. The front doors of Town2 are closed and they won't let you in, so we'll have to find an alternate way of getting in. Travel around the left side of the wall and when you get far enough North, Kraden will come out and make a comment about a pile of leaves blocking something. Now, if you have played Golden Sun1, you know what to do. If you haven't, whenever you see one of these "piles of leaves", you have to use the psynergy, whirlwind to blow them away. Which psynergy is this, you ask? Well, it's (the default, anyway) Sheba's psynergy. Its the one with the picture of a little tornado. This psynergy can be used both in and out of battle. Use Whirlwind and Kraden will come out again and make some comment. Now, enter the doorway. Follow the path through the water. Don't worry, the waters shallow, you can walk through it. It's the darker colored water that you can't walk through. Go up to the rope at the end of the path and climb up it to get inside the walls of Town2. Do what is sensible. Walk into the main doorway. Here, we go into a conversation that takes place in the temple. The 3 students seem to be trying to levitate and only one does it correctly. He is called in by the teacher. Follow through the doorway. We are now at a maze-looking place. If you go straight forward, you will see a chest. Beware that the chest is a trap and will attack you if you try to open it. You may want to, though. It is good for more experience. After disposing of the treasure chest, take the path that is on the left side. Follow it up,defeating any enemies that come your way. None should be too hard for you. And remember, you always have cure. At the end of that straight-forward path, there is a stairwell going down. Take it. Take the path to the left, as it is the only one that works. Talk to the fallen person and take the path through the columns that is a little to the right of them. There is a path here, even though it is very hard to find. Don't give up. It's there. Now, climb up the ladder and walk to the bottom of the path and press left to begin to hop onto the tops of the columns. From the first column, hop one to the right, one down, one to the right, one up, one to the right, one up, two to the left, one up, one right, and finally 2 up to come to another platform. Take the door that you see. After that door, you will see two ways that you can advance -- left or right. Go to the left and take the stairwell that you see. Go down the stairs and cross the river right away. You will need to hlod up and right so it doesnt pull you down. You should come to a door on that path. Go in it. This is the first puzzle of the game and it could actually make you think for a second. First, move the log over the western geyser and stand on the eastern geyser to get shot up to the 2nd floor. Hop off the platform and grab the item in the chest (I don't know what it does, though. I think it has to do with class change. If you have more information, please let me know.). Come back down and move the log onto the other geyser and stand on the western geyser. Take the path, going on both ropes and get knowcked off the second rope. Take the staircase up and walk to the right as close to the log as possible. Use the move psynergy and push the log to the right. Hop over the gap and move the log into the position right in front of where the air is coming out. Now, walk back to right inbetween the 2 ropes and walk onto the right one. Walk down the right path (not the ladder) and hop along both sides of the gap. Jump the final gap and go down the ladder and out the door. Phew, that took a while. Look a djinni! Well, we can't get it right now, but keep this place in mind for later on. Walk down, up the ladder, up the stairs, and up more stairs. You now come to a bucket and a sign. I guess the sign says to beware that the bucket of water is hot. Use your move psynergy and move the bucket to the right. Hop over the empty space it left. Beware there are some monsters above! Save now... just in case. There are 3 gorilla-things. You shouldn't have that much trouble with them. Just use your strongest psynergy or djinn/summon every turn and you'll be fine. Go up the ladder that is dropped when you defeat them. Follow the path down. You now find the teacher from before. He seems impressed that it is you that has come and not his (fallen) student. He uses psynergy to connect a rope to another nail. He beckons you to follow him. Go up there and press a on the table up there. You will get an item from it. When you equip the item, you can also use the psynergy that he used! Let's go get that djinni that we jsut saw a little while ago. Head back the way you came from. DO NOT jump down the ledge outside the teachers dojo. When you get to the djinni, save. You will have to fight this djinni to have it join your party. Just use your best psynergy every time and you'll be fine. Now, you can go back to the master's dojo and jump off the ledge. Now, we can finally leave Town2 and move on to another place. ________________ / C4 Walkthrough \ / Town3 \___________________________________________________________ Head back to Town1 to buy armor, healing, items, and the like. You should have a bit of extra money now, so you can. Sorry... I only started this section then I had to do something, so I'll have to leave it like this until later or tomorrow. Hopefully, today. ______________ / D1 Other \ / Contact Me \_____________________________________________________________ I accept e-mail at the following address: doctorbob6@yahoo.com Please note that I do NOT accept e-mail attachments.
