In this guide I will give you strategies for beating all the missions. However, because of the randomness of the Artificial Intelligence (what controls the enemy), there is no way I can give you a set number of steps that will guarantee victory. Instead I will give you some strategies and ideas that have helped me beat the game. This guide will also provide some information and strategies on party building and abilities that you'll be wanting. My goal is to try and make this guide as easy for you to read and use, and as helpful as possible, if you can think of anything that would help this guide fulfill that goal, then send it to me at Happybuddha311(at)Aol(dot)com. Make sure you include two things in the subject line "Your FFTA FAQ" and what site you are reading the guide from. That way I can tell that it isn't spam, and if you ask a question already found in the guide that either the host hasn't updated or you're a lazy, stupid pile. If you are a webmaster looking to host this guide, don't. The only two sites that are allowed to have this guide are Gamefaqs.com and Ign.com. If you are reading this guide anywhere else, please inform me, so the parties involved can be dealt with in a courtroom setting. With all that said, let's get to the part of the guide you came to read, or so I'm hoping. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- W H A T ' S N E W -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- *The following stuff is shiny and new SO CHECK IT OUT!* BTW: the date indicates when the update was started, not posted. Thursday January 22, 2004 - After a quick break from this guide to finish up my Advance Wars 2 Guide that I've been working on forever I came back to this guide and added the "Items" section to "Items" appendix. Expect to see a new section to that appendix with every update. Also added in the last few Moogle jobs. Plus a few more missions (up through mission 31), and some small details and corrections to sections and the outro. ENJOY U RPG f00s! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- T A B L E O F C O N T E N T S -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- i) Faq heading and general info. ii) Version History (What's new in this update!) 1) Intro (You just read it, or skipped over it) 2) Table of Contents 3) Story 4) Basics 5) Missions (doesn't include random engagements) 6) The Races, and jobs they can Hold ~ Human ~ Bangaa ~ Nu Mou ~ Viera ~ Moogle 7) Linking 8) Appendices - The Law - Status Ailments - Items/Weapons/Armor - Clan info 9) Version History 2 (what was new last time, or the time before that) 10) Outro -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- S T O R Y -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- It all starts in Ivalice, with you, Marche (or whatever you call your character) as the new kid. You get into a snow ball fight at school (The tutorial), where you meet Ritz and Mewt. Mewt gets picked on a lot, and what not and gets hit with a rock. The battle ends and you see Mewt later, and he has this book. You bring the book, and mewt to meet your brother who is digging the book. Yadda-yadda-yadda (Seinfeld reference) You are in the game. Now you got to find a way out of it. =============================================================================== Characters =============================================================================== Here's a brief description of the important characters in the game. Though this section isn't that important to read, well it's actually not important at all, all the other guides had one, so I think I should do what they do because I'm a blind sheep. My list isn't that important though because most of the characters aren't that important to begin with. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marche Radiuju ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is you, a very important person in the game. You can change the name if you think it sounds too goofy. Anyway, you're the new kid because your parents got divorced, but more importantly, you're crippled brother needed the fresh air. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ritz Malheur ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ritz is the tough tomboy everyone knows. She like mewt, is happy in the new world because of this tiny secret about her hair. Which is kinda stupid at first, but when you get to the actual cut-scene you'll quickly understand. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mewt Randell (AKA "Prince Mewt) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mewt is that one kid everyone picks on at school. He is shy and passive he is teased badly, as you have seen in the snowball fight. His mother has passed away, and his father is a drunk, Mewt finds the book that transports him to the fantasy world. He is content there as prince, with his mother, and his dad as an Important Judge. He is so content that he'll do everything in his power to stop you, his friend back in the real world. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Montblanc ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Montblanc is your first, and only friend in the fantasy world. He will help you explain all the little things you should know. (Because he tells you these things, I won't bother to explain them to you, so listen up!). He'll be one of your stronger clan members, and you can't ever kick him out for whatever reason. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- B A S I C S -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- There's a lot you need to know, lucky for you the game will teach you most of that, and I'll hit over it here real quick in case you're a stupid person who hasn't played the game in a while, or whatever your lame excuse is. There is also some stuff that I felt you should know (Basic Strategies). =============================================================================== The Battle System =============================================================================== The Battle System is turn based, unlike most RPGs however, it's one character per turn. There is a line-up to see whose turn it is next in the menus, but looking at that is usually rather pointless. Sure you could form some crazy ass strategies with it, but for most of the levels, the strategy will all be done before the battle (Picking which Jobs to use), or with various planned attacks (Using Status Ailments). Also, after a battle all of your units will be healed of any status ailments and of any HP/Mp Loss. That is one of the major flaws in this game. If it was like a normal RPG, where you would keep that status until healed, it would make the game A LOT more challenging and fun. =============================================================================== The Map =============================================================================== The Map (Usually known as the "Overworld" in most RPGs), is a rather simple thing. From time to time you will get Icons, you put them in the circles. Placing them in certain patterns will get you a "Treasure Hunt" which allows you to have gain rare items (usually they suck as though). Look at AstroBlue's Map, on Gamefaqs.com to get a good idea of what to do. There is a few different Icons, the only important ones are the towns, they allow you to get missions, buy things and trade, and some of them have a few other nifty things (Law card store, Jail, Monster Farm Etc.). The other types of Icons are nature deals, (Rivers, Mountains, Caves, Plains etc.), these are where battles and missions take place. One thing to watch for is the other groups roaming around, if you both get on the same icon, you'll be in for a battle. There is no random battles, so don't worry about that, if you don't want to fight just walk around them. =============================================================================== Saving =============================================================================== When you save during a battle, it will save that progress, plus the last save before that. When you boot up again, and go into the battle, it will erase the save you made while at the battle. So if you lose the battle you will have to go back to that first save. This is why I don't recommend saving during a battle unless you absolutely have to. =============================================================================== Basic Strategies =============================================================================== Before you begin a fight look at what the enemy is using. If he has distant fighters, you'll want fast units, or distance units of your own. If he has close up units, you'll want some tough units and many distance units. Also if you notice that he has mostly archers or black magicians, you can use the law cards to forbid their Forte (In our case, Gunmanship and Fire, Ice, or Lighting). When attacking, always attack from the sides or from the rear. This will give you a better chance of hitting the opponent. For your close up units, make sure you give them counter or reflex if they can learn it. This way when the enemy tries to strike back he'll be hit or he'll miss your unit. I wouldn't waste your time on distance units with this. Use the terrain to block attacks. If you can get into a nook so the enemy can't hit you from behind you'll have a better chance of surviving. Also, fighting literally back to back works well. Then if one unit dies, they still can't hit you from behind until the judge moves the corpse. Check "Clan Strategies" Appendix for more in-depth strategy. =============================================================================== Leveling up =============================================================================== In the job descriptions I labeled what stats get raised the most when you level up. Well, this took me awhile to figure out (like 5 minutes, but hey, there was no "Next level at ____EXP") Anyway, you need 100 Exp points to gain a level. When it's your units turn it says what EXP you're at on one of the bottom most lines. A cheap way to gain levels quickly is to buy a whole bunch of potions and sit there and use them over and over and over in battles while you have the rest of the team to actually fight. This gives you 10 Exp each turn. You could get more by fighting, or you could get less, depending on the enemy's levels. This is a good amount to get each turn, so I'd stick with that. Whenever you're actually fighting, instead of doing the cheap way like mentioned above. And you don't have an attack that you can do, use a potion to still get EXP for that turn. If you don't well, then it's just a waste of time. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- W A L K T H R O U G H -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Here is the section you'll be looking for, this section does not include the first two "missions" ("Snowball Fight" and "Lizard Men!?") as those are more of tutorials. Also this does not cover random encounters. This does cover every single mission in the "Report" option of the clan menu, as well as some hidden missions, and the "Reserve Missions". Please note, that when I say "Reward" I mean only things you are guaranteed to get, such as gil and the different types of expierence. *NOTE:* When I update, I will do one it page by page (see the pages in the "Report" option of the clan menu) Sometimes I'll do 2, but usually one, that is as soon as I finish all of the missions on the page. One more note before we start. With the exception of the first 24 missions, there is no rhyme or reason* why the missions pop up, it's completely random, so I ordered the missions by number. *: Reason after you complete the requirements. So without further Adieu, let's get to work. =============================================================================== Mission 001: Herb Picking =============================================================================== Premise: "Looking for people to gather the fever-reducing herb muscmaloi on the Giza Plains. No experience necessary. - Ivalice Pharmacists Guild" Requirements: None Rank: 3 Where: Giza Plains What: Defeat all Enemies! This missions is pretty easy, seeing as it's your first real mission. You will face up against 5 easy monsters that shouldn't cause too much trouble. The hardest enemy to take down in this mission will be the sprite. Use an archer or attacks from behind to finish her off. Rewards: 60 gil, 40 AP, Lutia Pass will now be open. =============================================================================== Mission 002: Thesis Hunt =============================================================================== Premise: "I search for my master the late Dr. Dalilei's thesis. It was taken from me by bandits as I crossed the Lutia Pass. - Dr. Coleman, Geologist Requirements: None Rank: 3 Where: Lutia Pass What: Defeat all enemies Another mission, this one is quite different in terms of terrain. You face 6 enemies, forget about the archer, at this level he isn't going to do anything meaningful. The thief can only take gil, and has a weak attack so leave him too. However he soldiers and the white mage should be in your sights. The white mage first, as it has healing power, then the Soldiers, as they have high attacks. Of course, the thieves will reach you first, you can blow right by them. It's a good idea to have a white mage that knows cure, because even if they are little hits from the archer and the thieves they'll add up if they target one of your members. Rewards: 4,000 gil, 40 AP, 100 CP, Nubswood will now be open. =============================================================================== Mission 003: The Cheetahs =============================================================================== Premise: "There's a price on the heads of the band of con-men calling themselves the "Cheetahs." Word is they were seen in the Nubswood! - Bratt, Streetear" Requirements: None Rank: 3 Where: Nubswood What: Defeat all enemies In this mission you'll be joined by Ritz (a Fencer) and her clan mate Shara (An archer). You fight against 3 distance fighters and 2 close fighters. You can pick 4 extra units. It's a good idea to pick either fast units, or distance fighters. As Well as one or two fighters with good melee attacks. As the Mage, Archer and White monk will hit you from a distance. Try and take out first the mage, who will do damage to Ritz (as her "reflex" blocks most physical damage), then Take out the fighter, who has the highest physical attacks. After that, take them out at your leisure. Rewards: 6,000 Gil, 40 Ap, 100 Cp, Eluut Sands will now be open =============================================================================== Mission 004: Desert Peril =============================================================================== Premise: "There's been a rash of attacks by crazed monsters in the Eluut Sands area recently. Will pay for research & Removal. - Eluut Civilian Militia" Requirements: None Rank: 3 Where: Eluut Sands What: Defeat all enemies The goal here is to take out the flan first (Cream is his name or something like that I believe). Use Magic to take him down as weapons won't do shit. A Blizzard or fire is all you can use, as he'll just absorb thunder attacks. Next, take down the red panthers, as they pose the most threat. After that the antlion and the Coeurl are easy. Rewards: 7,000 gil, 40 Ap, 100 Cp, Ulei River will now be open. =============================================================================== Mission 005: Twisted Flow =============================================================================== Premise: "I've seen the Ulei River bending and warping most strangely, but no one else can see anything! Please find out the truth. - Jura, Time mage Adept" Requirements: None Rank: 3 Where: Ulei River What: Defeat the Boss The goal in this mission is to take out the Totema, as it's the first one, let me explain this. The Totema are the protectors of the crystals, each time you defeat them, you come closer to going back to the real world. Also each time you defeat them, a race will gain the ability to use the totema for a powerful attack (they all do different things), you need 10 judge points to cast them though. Okay, back to the strategy. Most of the Totema's support is flying, and the best way to take down a flyer is with missile attacks, use archers and mages. However, you should have a unit or two with high attack to back up Marche. The Ahriman on the right side is equipped with a technique that has a chance to kill your units in one hit, this should be your first concern. After that, send your two melee units at the totema, and use the archers and mages to take out the rest of the support then help out killing the totema. Rewards: 8,000 gil, 80 Ap, 100 Cp, Cadoan will now be open. =============================================================================== Mission 006: Antilaws =============================================================================== Premise: An alchemist named "Ezel" claims he's found a way to nullify laws! Looking for information about him and his "antilaws" - *Numerous requests Requirements: After you meet Ezel, enter Cadoan Rank: 3 Where: Cadoan What: Defeat all enemies This mission is fairly easy, and you learn how to use anti-law cards after it, so it's a big help (not really..well kinda). The enemies you face are mostly melee, so get a good combination of strong melee fighters and distance fighters. Take out the illusionist first, as he'll give you the most trouble with his magic attacks. After that, take out the Gladiator and the Hunter, followed by the fighter, and ninja, finish off the Defender last. Also, Ezel may use an attack that puts most enemies to sleep, if he does, then switch plans to attack all of the units that don't fall asleep. Rewards: 9,000 gil, 40 Ap, 100 Cp, Aisenfield will now be open. =============================================================================== Mission 007: Diamond Rain =============================================================================== Premise: "Word is, diamonds are falling in the rain in Aisenfield. If it's true, we'll be rich! - Geyna, Streetear" Requirements: None Rank: 3 Where: Aisenfield What: Defeat all enemies This mission is fairly easy, provided you attack right. Try to get Black mages and Dragoons in your party for this one. Make sure they know A) A Thunder spell, and B) Wyrmkiller. Now, take out the ice drakes (dragons) with thunder attacks and the attack "Wrmkiller". After that use fire or ice to take out the Ice Flan, and the Bomb and Lamia can go down with regular attacks. Easy huh? Rewards: 10,600 Gil, 40 Ap, 100 Cp, Roda Volcano will now be open. =============================================================================== Mission 008: Hot Awakening =============================================================================== Premise: "The Roda Volcano has been active lately. The Royal Mage Academy wants to hire researchers. No experience needed, must like heat. - Ramda, Geology Labs" Requirements: None Rank: 3 Where: Roda Volcano What: Destroy All Targets This mission is super easy. The goal is to take out all of little crystals, those don't even fight back. So use any units that you want to level up, or learn some techniques, cause this mission is easy. Rewards: 11,400 gil, 80 Ap, 100 Cp, Koringwood will now be open. =============================================================================== Mission 009: Magic Wood =============================================================================== Premise: "Trespassers have been cutting down trees in the Korining for their magical properties, They must be stopped! - Guilaume, Ranger Captain" Requirements: None Rank: 3 Where: Koringwood What: Defeat all enemies The enemies in this mission focus on distance or speed. So make sure you use the same to combat them. Your primary targets should be the thieves as they have stealing abilities that could really piss you off. After that, take out the summoner and time mage. Then the two archers (one's a sniper). And BAM you're done with this mission. Rewards: 12,600 gil, 40 Ap, 100 Cp, Salikawood will now be open. =============================================================================== Mission 010: Emerald Keep =============================================================================== Premise: "The Royal Mage Academy has given up their search for the giant emerald crystal of Salika keep. Treasure hunters, now's your chance! - Levey, Search Team member" Requirements: None Rank: 3 Where: Salikawood What: Defeat the Boss This mission is a bit more difficult, your goal is to take out babus. He's pretty easy to kill if you've got a decent group of units. You should use some distance fighters, as the terrain in the level makes for slow movement, and they only have one distance fighter (The Gunner). First take out the Templars, beware of the one with the "Bonecrusher" Counter attack. This dodges your attack and hits you with one that is 1.5x stronger. After that you can ignore everything else and attack babus himself. He should go down pretty quick if you surround him. Rewards: 13,600 Gil, 40 Ap, 100 Cp, Nargai Cave will now be open. =============================================================================== Mission 011: Pale Company =============================================================================== Premise: "A spirit or ghost was seen going into Nargai Cave, and is making low moaning noises. We can't sleep. Please investigate. - Nargai Area Residents" Requirements: None Rank: 3 Where: Nargai Cave What: Defeat the Boss The goal in this mission is to take out the Totema, however his support (3 elemental dragons) is nothing to snuff at. Bring some Black Mages to use opposite elements on the dragons to take them out first. Then bring in some strong units to take out the totema itself. If you have four units that know Combos, surround the totema and keep using the combos to take it down. Rewards: 15,000 Gil, 80 Ap, 100 Cp, Bagupa Port will now be open. =============================================================================== Mission 012: Jagd Hunt =============================================================================== Premise: "On my brand-new airship's maiden flight, she was damaged in a hit- and-run! The Criminal is in Jagd Dorsa, Kupo! Get him! - Nono, Machinist Apprentice" Requirements: Meet Nono at Baguba, then head to Jagd Dorsa Rank: 3 Where: Jagd Dorsa What: Defeat all Enemies This mission is dangerous, if you don't have a white mage with a revive spell and lots of phoenix downs you'll lose team-members. This is the first mission in a Jagd, so let me explain this. Jagds have no laws, however, after the battle is over, judges traditionally revivie all that get "K.O.ed" With no law, there are no judges, so if you have a KOed unit at the end of the battle they die. So don't let that happen. Okay, now that we know that, take out the assassin first. It can take you out in one hit with her "Last Breath" attack. After that, the hunter or the Blue mage. The rest don't matter. The best way to beat this mission is to split up into groups of two and kick ass (this technique is described in the "Clan Strats" section of the clan appendix). Rewards: 16,000 Gil, 40 Ap, 100 Cp, Kudik Peaks will now be open. =============================================================================== Mission 013: The Bounty =============================================================================== Premise: "Looking for information about that bounty the palace is offering. Give us a shout if you see us. We're around - Clan Ox" Requirements: None Rank: 3 Where: Intercept the blue clan wondering around. What: Defeat all enemies The clan in this mission is a good variety, take notes. Anyway, by now you should have an Assassin, and if you don't *SMACK* GET ONE! Assassins are the best units in the game. Anyway, use the assassin to run around killing everyone. The end you win. >_> Anyway, the Black mage knows return magic, so you'll need to take him out with melee, the Sage knows reflex, so you'll have to take him out with magic. What does that tell you? To bring a balanced force to this fight. Now, the Paladin knows some curing spells, so take him out first, or he'll just un-do all of your damage. Rewards: 17,200 Gil, 40 Ap, 100 Cp, Jeraw Sands will now be open. =============================================================================== Mission 014: Golden Clock =============================================================================== Premise: "Someone has been selling phoney copies of our "Golden Sandclock (tm)" in the Jeraw Sands Area. Please Investigate. - Belta Clockworks" Requirements: None Rank: 3 Where: Jeraw Sands What: Defeat all enemies Again Ritz (Now an Elementalist) and Shara (Now a Sniper) will join your party. However you can't use them (They're computer controlled). They can probably finish the missions by themselves, but that's no fun! So bring your assassin(s) and any distance fighters are really fast units you have. Most of the enemies in this mission have magic and fight from a distance. The most bothersome is the Alchemist who knows "Meteor" which is quite the powerful attack. So focus on that. If you have an assassin, use her to take out the Gadgeteer, as it has "Damage > Mp", which transfers all damage into MP Damage, so you have to chip away his MP and his actual health. Though a "Last breath" will take care of this in one shot. Rewards: 18,000 Gil, 40 Ap, 100 Cp, Muscadet will now be open. =============================================================================== Mission 015: Scouring Time =============================================================================== Premise: By order of Her Majesty Queen Remedi we will be searching each town for the boy wanted by the palace. - Bervenia Palace & Judges" Requirements: Talk to Ezel, then enter the town of Muscadet Rank: 3 Where: Muscadet What: Defeat all enemies, Destroy all targets This is a two part mission, the first part you have to kill some guys that intercept you, 2 templars, a Gunner, 2 Mog Knight, a Sage and a Paladin. Take out the Templars then the Paladin. The Sage doesn't have too many high-end attacks so he isn't a problem, the Mog Knights are jokes and gunners need clear shots to be effective. There is some rare armor held by the Templars, so if you have a thief that can steal armor, give it a shot. It'll also help take them out, so even if you don't want the armor it's a good idea. The Second part is where your main charter must fight alone. You will face Babus and he's pretty weak so long as you are semi-powerful. Take him out then attack the targets. He'll counter so watch that, if you have any powerful distance attacks I suggest using those, otherwise just get in there and smack him up. Rewards: 19,600 Gil, 80 Ap, 100 Cp, Uladon Bog will now be open. =============================================================================== Mission 016: The Big Find =============================================================================== Premise: "Even after the historical finds in the Uladon Bog, the Royal Mage Academy says there might be more lying hidden out there... - Azare, Streetear" Requirements: None Rank: 3 Where: Uladon Bog What: Defeat all enemies In this mission you face two thieves that can really take out your good equipment. So either equip crap equipment or the ability "Maintenance" to all that know it. Okay, with that done, go in with some distance fighters and fast fighters, because the enemy is quite spread out, and you'll have a hard time getting attacks in otherwise. Take out the thieves first, as you'll probably approach them first. Then split up and take down the bishops and fighters. You could also make sure that "Stealing" is against the law, then ignore the thieves and they'll either go to jail or just be little pests (as they don't have good attack rates). Rewards: 20,400 Gil, 40 Ap, 100 Cp, Gotor Sands will now be open. =============================================================================== Mission 017: Desert Patrol =============================================================================== Premise: "The famed Mirage of Gotor is drawing big crowds, and big crowds draw thieves and pickpockets. Please help us patrol! - Ivalice Tourism Board" Requirements: None Rank: 3 Where: Gotor Sands What: Defeat all enemies All of the enemies in this mission are melee fighters. So bring in your melee fighters and a few long distance fighters to stand back and support. You'll want to target the Bishop first, as it has healing attacks. Next all of the enemies bunch up (and they will) and blast them with all the area spells you know. When they split up, or there is only a few left, take them out with the melee fighters. Easy as your mother >_>. Rewards: 21,400 Gil, 40 Ap, 100 Cp, Delia Dunes will now be open. =============================================================================== Mission 018: Quiet Sands =============================================================================== Premise: "The Famed "Barking Sands" in the Delia Dunes have stopped barking, and tour cancellations are rising. Please Investigate. - Acamel Tours Office" Requirements: None Rank: 3 Where: Delia Dunes What: Defeat the Boss, Defeat the Boss This mission is another two-parter. The first part all you have to do is hold out until the boss (Llednar) uses his "Omega" attack, he'll be thrown into jail. This only takes a couple of turns, so just attack the rest of the enemies for EXP. The Second part, you must defeat the totema, the vampires will come back a few turns after you kill them, so just focus all efforts on the Totema. The Totema has around 400 Hp, so if try and wack at him with your most powerful guys. Also, the vampires will fall if you use white magic on them, so bring a white mage along, to kill the vampires if they get too bothersome. Rewards: 22,600 Gil, 80 Ap, 100 Cp, Materiwood will now be open. =============================================================================== Mission 019: Materite Now! =============================================================================== Premise: "Materite is getting hard to find with audience day near. I need some for my experiments! Search the materiwood --ore will do. - Pallas, Alchemist" Requirements: None Rank: 3 Where: Materiwood What: Defeat all Enemies Marche and crew will face off against a clan of Viera bandits. Which means you'll want units that are fast and have high hit ratings, because Viera are fast and they dodge sloppy attacks. In this mission I recommend taking out the assassin and white mage first, as they'll really get in the way. From that take them out in whatever order you want. I took out the Summoner first because her magic is quite powerful. Rewards: 23,400 gil, 40 AP, 100CP, Bervenia Palace will now be open. =============================================================================== Mission 020: Present Day =============================================================================== Premise: "Security at the palace is tight as ever with the public audiences today. Come pay your respects to the prince and queen. - Bervenia Spokesman" Requirements: None Rank: 3 Where: Bervenia Palace What: Defeat All Enemies, Don't die! This is a two part mission, before you start it SAVE!!!!!!! Also make sure your Mache is an Uber-bad ass motherfucker that's fast and can really move. An "Angel Ring" will help out A TON, if you have one that is, if you don't make sure marche knows how to use items and you have lots of potions. In the first part you'll want to take out the Alchemist really quickly, as if he casts "Death" you just lost one of your commrades. Next, I suggest the Gladiators and then the templar, the mog knight will just be a fly buzzing around and trying to hurt you but he's got nothing. If you have learned "Steal Weapon" try to take the Moggle's sword he is carrying a good one, I don't remember what it is (I didn't write it down) but I wrote "Mog knight" carries good weapon, steal it. I don't think I'd lie to myself...make sure there is no law against stealing though. The second part of this mission is Marche versus Mewt's new bitch. Llednar is one hard-ass, he has a huge attack rating and has an attack called "Omega" which will fuck you up beyond belief, but it only works if he is standing next to you. You can't attack Llednar, as he has some sort of force-field that disallows all attacks. Be prepared to last 5-10 turns before the judge arrives and Llednar slinks away. Rewards: 25,000 gil, 80 AP, 100 CP, Tubola cave will now be open. =============================================================================== Mission 021: Hidden Vein =============================================================================== Premise: "Most sa the tubola cave mines were depleted during the 1st Mythril Rush, but my grandfather's will says otherwise. Please check! - Cruu, Mine Foreman" Requirements: None Rank: 3 Where: Tubola Cave What: Defeat all Enemies Before you start this mission make sure you have a white mage with the ability "Esuna" as nearly every enemy in this level has Status Ailment effects. If you don't have that get some "Cureall" and other status ailing cures at the shop before you start. As for the fight, take out the Juggler and the Animist first, as "Sheep Count" and "Dagger" can stop your units really quickly, which is a problem when you're trying to open a can of whoop ass. The Sage should get it next as it has a high magic rating, after that it's free game on the rest of the enemies, split up and use two units to take the rest down with the white mage to "put out fires" (Cure status ailments). Rewards: =============================================================================== Mission 022: To Ambervale =============================================================================== Premise: "Mewt and Remedi have gone to ambervale. Before you follow, come to the Deti Plains, I have a request to ask of you. - Judgemaster Cid." Requirements: None Rank: 3 Where: Deti Plains What: Defeat all enemies This mission is pretty easy. The most important thing to take out is the Jawbreaker as it's LV5 death is a real pain in the ass if your units have levels that are multiples of five. After that the Big Malboro is the only really tough enemy because of his ability to deploy status ailments. I suggest taking in a black mage or someone with elemental magic to take care of him and the thunderdrake. Everything else can just be beat down with swords and shit. Rewards: 27,000 gil, 40 AP, 100 CP, Siena Gorge now open. =============================================================================== Mission 023: Over the Hill =============================================================================== Premise: "I want you to find me some amber in the Siena Gorge. Amber contains the power of the sun, essential in making the antilaw I need. - Judgemaster Cid" Requirements: None Rank: 3 Where: Siena Gorge What: Defeat the Boss Oh joy, another battle against a clan full of Viera. This one is pretty easy, the goal is to take out the Red mage "Ritz". However she should be protected by quite a few Viera, but by now you should have the Dragoon totema, if you do then use that and be done with this mission. Otherwise I suggest using assassins and Archers to mow through the ranks and get to Ritz without hassle. Rewards: =============================================================================== Mission 024: Royal Valley =============================================================================== Premise: "Thank you for waiting, (Your name here), I can leave for the Ambervale any time. Let's go as soon as you are ready. - Judgemaster Cid" Requirements: None Rank: 3 Where: Ambervale What: Defeat the Boss, Defeat the Boss, Defeat the boss Oi, a three part mission, this one really is hell. Make sure you save and have some really strong units that aren't assassins. If not, go level up with some side missions. Also, try to teach "Combo" to the units you plan on using before this mission, and get their judge point total up to 10, that way you will have the strongest combos possible. If you do have these things then proceed to Ambervale and go for it. The first part of the mission is against Llednar the Biskmatar, who can use still use Omega, so don't stand next to him unless you intend on killing him. Bring a few theifs to this fight as the enemies have some really nice gear, the Ninja has a Zanmato which are hard to find, and pretty much all of Llednar's stuff is great. Anyway, if you can surround Llednar and just destroy him with the most powerful attacks you've got. If you have a paladin "Holy Blade" does the trick nicely. As soon as you finish this, you can proceed to the next battle. The next battle is against Queen Remedi, she has this bad ass axe thingy that you can't steal or break, so don't try. She will also have two guards at her disposal, she isn't that tough, so ignore then the guards and go straight for the queen with your best attacks. Distance attacks don't work so well, nor do magic, the best way is to just get up close and smack the shit out of her with combos, try and get 4 units that know combos around her for the best effect. Finally the last battle. Remedi will spawn as this blue thing and she'll have wicked awesome magic abilities that can fuck up your whole party in one shot. So, go straight for the throat with physical attack units, anything else will be a weak attack if it even gets through. Like last time it will help greatly if you can surround her with units that know combos and then use the combos turn after turn to do the most damage. Again Remedi will have two guards but just take their hits, as they won't kill you for a few hits. Remedi will have around 500-600 HP, so make sure you've got some units that can stand up to punishment for awhile. CONGRATULATIONS!!! You've Just Beaten The GAME!!!!!!!!! WATCH THE END AND THE CREDITS CUZ YOU ROCK! Then do the rest of the side missions... Rewards: None. *^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^* This is where the side missions begin. I just thought I should break that up for you, that way if you're reading the below strategy you won't have the ending ruined for you. K thx BI! =============================================================================== Mission 025 : Wanted! =============================================================================== Premise: "This month's Wanted! Black mage Dolce: 4,600 Gil *Damgerous Magic Use *Eating and running *Assorted misdemeanors *Last spotted in forest" Requirements: Month Of Kingmoon Rank: 3 Where: Nubswood What: Defeat the boss As is the usual with all the different "Wanted" missions the goal is to defeat the boss. There is two ways to go about this, defeat the boss and be done, or kill everyone and get experience on your way through. I usually just target the boss, Because there's always plenty of battles to gain experience in if you want it. Anyways, Dolce is a pretty strong mage, a pretty strong mage with a low defense to physical attacks that is. Sneak around his goons and beat him silly with a soldier or any ability that specializes in melee combat to finish this fast. However, if you're after the EXP, then you'll want to take out the whit mage first as the healing he does can really be counter-active to what you are trying to do. Next I suggest the soldier as he attacks more often and harder than the white monk, followed by the white monk and finally Dolce. Rewards:4,600 gil, 40 AP, 30 CP, Flower Vase =============================================================================== Mission 026: Wanted! =============================================================================== Premise: "This Month's Wanted! Gabbana Brothers: 13,600 gil *Theft (4 counts) *Rosioti slaying *Always together *Target desert travelers" Requirements: Month of Bardmoon Rank: 3 Where: Jeraw Sands What: Kill the Boss As is the usual with all the different "Wanted" missions the goal is to defeat the boss. There is two ways to go about this, defeat the boss and be done, or kill everyone and get experience on your way through. I usually just target the boss, Because there's always plenty of battles to gain experience in if you want it. The Gaanna brothers are the two moogles in this match, take out the Juggler first as he'll disable you more often than not, then take out the Mog Knight to finish off this level. If you're after the precious EXP, then take out the Time mage first, before he casts any haste spells. Next the Jugglers is your target, as his disabling techniques are a real pain in the ass. After that do so as you see fit taking out the Mog Knight last so you can get all the EXP possible from this fight. Rewards: 13,600 gil, 40 Ap, 30 CP =============================================================================== Mission 027: Wanted! =============================================================================== Premise: "This Month's Wanted! Diaghilev Godeye: 2,800 gil *Using alchemy to make counterfeit gil *Rumored to have a third eye" Requirements: Month of Madmoon Rank: 2 Where: Giza Plains What: Kill the Boss As is the usual with all the different "Wanted" missions the goal is to defeat the boss. There is two ways to go about this, defeat the boss and be done, or kill everyone and get experience on your way through. I usually just target the boss, Because there's always plenty of battles to gain experience in if you want it. Your goal here is to take out the alchemist, so get some quick units together and go in for the kill before the slower movements have a chance to get in the way. Being an Alchemist he is real slow and has a small movement, so you should easily be able to catch up to him and slash him to ribbons. If you're after EXP, take out the Theif first, he'll steal your gil and judge points, though he may steal gear, so taking out him first is always a good plan. Next, the Dragoon as he has the highest attack, he may be tough but cast some spells on him so he can't hit back is always a good plan. Next attack the gladiator he should go down pretty fast as gladiators usually don't have too good of a defense. That leaves us with the archer, circle around him so he'll have to pick one unit, he should go down easily. Now just do what's left and kill Diaghilev. Rewards: 2,800 gil, 40 AP, 30 CP =============================================================================== Mission 028: Wanted! =============================================================================== Premise: "This Month's Wanted! Swampking Kanan: 18,000 Gil *Ex-Palace Guard (AWOL) *Raiding Local Towns from a camp in the Uladon Bog" Requirements: Month of Sagemoon Rank: 3 Where: Uladon Bog What: Kill the Boss As is the usual with all the different "Wanted" missions the goal is to defeat the boss. There is two ways to go about this, defeat the boss and be done, or kill everyone and get experience on your way through. I usually just target the boss, Because there's always plenty of battles to gain experience in if you want it. Here you'll wanna take out the Templar, he isn't that hard to get too, but he does have quite a bit of health, you'll need a unit that has a high attack to defeat him. If you want that precious EXP, then you'll have to take out the archer ASAP. He'll keep trying to Charm your units which can be a real pain in the ass. After that take down the bishop who will heal his units so they survive to piss you off longer. Follow that up with the summoner who does the most damage, then the dragoon and finally Kanan. Rewards: 18,000 gil, 40 AP, 30 CP =============================================================================== Mission 029: Wanted! =============================================================================== Premise: "This Month's Wanted! Killer Rayne: 45,000 gil *Fearsome female assassin *said to know all the skills of her trade *Hiding in Jagd Helje" Requirements: Month of Huntmoon Rank: 4 Where: Jagd Helje What: Kill the Boss *This is a fight in a Jagd, so save before starting the fight* As is the usual with all the different "Wanted" missions the goal is to defeat the boss. There is two ways to go about this, defeat the boss and be done, or kill everyone and get experience on your way through. I usually just target the boss, Because there's always plenty of battles to gain experience in if you want it. This missions is kinda tricky, there is no real good way to end it quick, as the assassin is likely to get one of your units and you'll have to heal them or risk losing them forever. So try and attack first from a distance to avoid this mission. I don't recommend fighting this mission for EXP, as trying to keep all of your units alive is quite a task. Rewards: 45,000 gil, 40 AP, 30 CP, Zanmato =============================================================================== Mission 030: Wanted! =============================================================================== Premise: "This month's Wanted! Dark Duke Lodion: 22,600 gil *Powerful Magic *Numerous Followers *Active in Jagd Ahli" Requirements: Month of Kingmoon, after you beat the first wanted mission of that month. Rank: 4 Where: Jagd Ahli What: Kill the Boss *This is a fight in a Jagd so save before starting the fight* As is the usual with all the different "Wanted" missions the goal is to defeat the boss. There is two ways to go about this, defeat the boss and be done, or kill everyone and get experience on your way through. I usually just target the boss, Because there's always plenty of battles to gain experience in if you want it. Another Tricky mission, you'll probably want to deviate from the plan and attack and kill the assassin first, before she kills some of your units. After that aim for the illusionist to finish off this mission quickly. If you're in this for the EXP, take out the assassin first, then the Dragoon, as he'll be the next strongest attacks. When you defeat him take out the Gladiator than the fighter, and finally the archer and Lodion himself. If you do fight for the EXP, make sure you have units that can raise the dead or be able to have items (if the latter is true make sure to have pheonix downs). Rewards: 22,600 Gil, 40 AP, 30 CP, Onlyone =============================================================================== Mission 031: Ruby Red =============================================================================== Premise: "Our family heirloom, the fiery ruby known as the "Dragon's Eye," has been stolen. Please retrieve. - Viscount Rashie" Requirements: None Rank: 4 Where: Baguba Port What: Defeat all enemies. This mission is pretty easy, provided you have a black mage that knows all the elemental spells. If not, well this might be a bit harder. A dragoon with "Wyrmkiller" is the next best thing. Anyway, take out the Blue mage first as he can heal other units than take out the Dragons, after that the Beastmaster is Shit outta luck so you can ignore him, concentrate on the hunter first than on the archer. Finish this off by decimating the beastmaster. Rewards:16,000 gil, 40 AP, 30 CP, Wyrmstone Expect more to come, soon and often! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- R A C E S / J O B S -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- In this section I'll tell you all about each race, and the jobs they can hold. The best ability they can learn is "Double Sword" It takes forever to learn, but allows them to hold 2 swords, meaning they can learn an ability twice as fast, or learn two abilities at once. Once you learn this, you can change to something like a solider and DOMINATE any enemy at Melee Combat. The first time you get a "Nosada" (the sword needed) is when your smithing skill (clan) reaches 20. Well, you could also get it as a random reward for a mission, but that isn't too likely. The Templars have the best defense of any Bangaa, while Dragons have the highest weapon attacks, which should show you how well they complement each other. So, try and train them as both. In my Opinion, Training the templars are better, because at the beginning of the game you'll want units that can take a bigger beating. Anyway, the Dragoons are one of my favorite units in the game, which could explain why I have 4 of them in my clan. These bad-boys have a nice attack called jump, that hits any unit four squares away, regardless of height difference, which will probably be the attack you use most after training a Dragoon, so make it the first ability he learns. Don't use them, unless you like blue mages, in which case you'll like this you can get animals to attack the blue mage, so the mage can learn the ability (That's about the only worthwhile thing beastmasters can do) Abilities: *All abilities take control of the creatures listed in the "What does it do?" slot* 0----------------------------------------------------------------------------0 | Type | Name | Mp | Item Needed | What does it do? | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Goblin | N/A | Demon Bell | Goblins and Red Caps | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Flan | N/A | Demon Bell | Flans, Jellies, Creams | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Bomb | N/A | Demon Bell | Bombs and Grenades | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Dragon | N/A | Earth Bell | Wyrms and Drakes | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Lamia | N/A | Glass Bell | Lamias and Liiths | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Bug | N/A | Fairy Harp | Antlions and Jawbreakers | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Tonberry | N/A | Blood Strings |Tonberries and Masterberries| |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Panther | N/A | War Trumpet | Panthers and Coeurls | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Malboro | N/A | Aona Flute | Malboros and Big Malboros | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Floateye | N/A | Black Quena | Floateyes and Ahirmans | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Undead | N/A | Black Quena | Zombies and Vampires | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Fairy | N/A | Fairy Harp | Sprites and Titanias | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Rockbeast | N/A | Conch Shell | Blade Biters and Toughskins| |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | R | Last Haste | N/A | Ninja Gear | Haste if badly damage | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | S | Immunity | N/A | Survival Vest | Some status immunity | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | C | Beast Combo| N/A | Mythril Bell | Foolproof combo | 0----------------------------------------------------------------------------0 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *Time Mage* ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Move: 3 Jump: 2 Evade: 30 Weapons Used: Rods Head Gear: Hats Body Gear: Clothing, Robes Shield: N/A Highest Raised stat at Level Up: Magic Power and Resistance. Time mages are used mainly to quicken up a slow team or to make a fast one faster. If you use mainly big hitters, that lack speed, use one or two of these. Using Slows and stops helps a lot even if you already have a fast team. The Haste type moves are quite effective, a good idea to do is to use haste on the time mage itself (Nu Mou are kind of a slow race) then cast it on the rest of your team. Demi and Quarter are two killer attacks, provided they hit they can seriously speed up a battle. White mages are definitely a good investment. However I suggest that the second set of A-Abilities is Black Mage attacks. So you can heal and fight depending on what the situation calls for. Elementalists are a pretty decent job, quite well rounded, in fact this is not just the most well rounded job for Viera, it is the most well rounded job in the game. They use some decent elemental attacks (duh) but they really aren't that great of a unit, just another brick in the wall, a brick that is of the foundation of the awesome ability that is "Assassin". So you'll probably make a quick stop on Elementalist a few times while playing the game, it's a good job to even out stats, but other then that, this is just a stepping stone job. They knock out 95% of enemies with one hit (Thank you Last Breath) plus they move first almost every battle. Of course, there is a catch (two actually). The first being, you pretty much have to run a Viera through every job possible to get an assassin, the second, is that the weapon "Petal Chaser" that teaches the wonder ability "Last Breath" is a pain in the ass to find. As the game progresses though, you'll probably get around 2-3 petal chasers, or you might have a nice friend trade you one. *NOTE:* I will NOT be that nice friend =P. These are that one moogle that will ALWAYS piss you off with annoying attacks, while annoying to your enemy, this job can be quite helpful. The Animists use the power of animals, much like Morphers, Beastmasters and Blue mages, only it isn't a lame fucking job. One of the best strategies to use is to teach a moogle "Sheep Count" and all of the thief abilities, and BAM you just upgraded your armory. Plus your enemy will be weakened, as all they can do is draw new weapons. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thief ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Move: 4 Jump: 3 Evade: 70 Weapons Used: Knife Head Gear: Hat Body Gear: Clothing Shield: N/A Highest Raised stat at Level Up: Speed Because of their low HP, These make a bad choice for Moogles at the beginning of the game. Though they do accent the Moogles speed, It's better to go with something that will give you more HP and MP, something moogles really need badly. Moogles by nature have weak attacks, so that's one drawback, next the guns don't shoot over things, so if a friend or a ledge is in the way, it'll hit it, instead of the desired target. One way to get around this is to use gunners on flatter maps and archers on more sloping maps. The gunner does have some upsides however, if you have learned the ability "Ultima Charge"(Mog Knight Ability) you can use that, however the range will be increased to a long ass away. Which means that a huge, un-counterable attack is only a point and click away, provided the shot is clear. 0----------------------------------------------------------------------------0 | Type | Name | Mp | Item Needed | What does it do? | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Fireshot | N/A | Aiot Gun | Shoots fire | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Boltshot | N/A | Riot Gun | Shoots Lightning | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Iceshot | N/A | Giot Gun | Shoots Ice | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Confushot | N/A | Chaos Rifle | Damage + Confusion | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Charmshot | N/A | Peacemaker | Damage + Charm | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Blindshot | N/A | Silver Cannon | Damage + Blind | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Silenshot | N/A | Lost Gun | Damage + Silence | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Stopshot | N/A | Outsider | Damage + Stop | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | S | Concentrate| N/A | Longbarrel | Hate rate increases | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | C | Gun Combo | N/A | Mythril gun | Foolproof combo | 0----------------------------------------------------------------------------0 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mog Knight ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Move: 3 Jump: 2 Evade: 45 Weapons Used: Blades Head Gear: Helmets, hats Body Gear: Armor, clothing Shield: any Highest Raised stat at Level Up: Weapon Attack, Weapon Defense. Mog knights are another moogle job with high attack rates, (the other being a gunner). They are suited well for melee combat, but more as support then as you're bread and butter attack units. These knights have some decent abilities to learn, but definatly look into picking up "Ultima Charge" as you can use it as a gunner, which will only almost guaranteed make you say one thing "SAY ELO TO MY LIL FRIEND!!!!!!" at which point everyone in your math class will turn around and wonder what kind of crack you're on. 0----------------------------------------------------------------------------0 | Type | Name | Mp | Item Needed | What does it do? | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Mog Attack | N/A | Flamtongue | Damages and Knocks back | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Mog Guard | N/A | Kwigon Blade | Weapon Def + and Mag RES + | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Mog Lance | N/A | Atmos Blade | Distance attack | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Mog Rush | N/A | Shadow Blade | High damage, low hit rate | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Mog Shield | N/A | Pearl Blade | Prevents Status Ailments | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Mog Peek | N/A | Paraiba Blade | Peek at targets rare items | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Mog Aid | N/A | Icebrand | Heals HP and Status Ailment| |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A |Ultima charge| 60 | Materia Blade | Ultima Magic | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | R | Last haste | N/A | Gold Armor | Casts haste when near death| |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | S | Shield Bearer| N/A | Round Shield | Use Shields | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | C |Charge Combo| N/A | Mythril Blade | Foolproof combo | 0----------------------------------------------------------------------------0 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Juggler ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Move: 4 Jump: 2 Evade: 40 Weapons Used: Knife Head Gear: Hats Body Gear: Clothing Shield: N/A Highest Raised stat at Level Up: Weapon Defense Jugglers are another pain in the ass job, all they do is walk around the battle field and inflict status ailments. All of their abilities have a decent range, so you can stand behind a group of bigger units and harass the other team from there. The best way to use a juggler is as a support unit, anything else is suicide, or just lame. 0----------------------------------------------------------------------------0 | Type | Name | Mp | Item Needed | What does it do? | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Hurl | N/A | Kris Knife | Throws item | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Firebomb | N/A | Khukuri | Inflicts Berserk | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Ball | N/A | Scramasmax | Inflicts Confuse | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Dagger | N/A | Jambiya | Inflicts Disable | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Smile | N/A | Orichalcum | allows target to move next | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Gil Toss | N/A | Jack Knife | Throws gil | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | R | Catch | N/A | Chain Plate | Catches all thrown items | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | R | Return Fire| N/A | Power Sash | Catches arrow and throws it| |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | C |Juggle Combo| N/A | Mythril Knife | Foolproof combo | 0----------------------------------------------------------------------------0 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gadgeteer ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Finally the last job, you have no idea how long this section took me... but I won't bore you with that, it's a nifty section that took more than a month to compile, plus the use of a strategy guide ("The Official Nintendo Players guide") to finish it! Move: 3 Jump: 2 Evade: 50 Weapons Used: Knuckles Head Gear: Hats Body Gear: Clothing Shield: N/A Highest Raised stat at Level Up: Weapon Defense, Magic Resistance. Another lame ass job, nice ideas Square. This little fella does one of two things, Inflicts a major status ailment on all your enemies, or.. inflicts a major status ailment on all of your units. There are ways around this, such as the ability "Astra" and accessories that nullify the certain status effects, but that's a lot of work for a 50-50 shot at hitting the enemy hard. *Note: All effects of A abilities either hit all your team or all foes* 0----------------------------------------------------------------------------0 | Type | Name | Mp | Item Needed | What does it do? | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Red Spring | 12 | Rising Sun | Casts Haste | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Blue Screw | 12 | White Fangs | Casts Dispel | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Green Gear | 12 | Sick Knuckles | Casts Poison | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Silver Disc| 12 | Hard Knuckles | Casts Darkness | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A |Gold Battery| 12 | Cat Claws | Heal HP 100% | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Black Ignot| 12 | Death Claws | Casts Doom | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A | Chroma Gem | 12 | Dream Claws | Casts Sleep | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | A |Yellow Spring| 12 | Survivor | Casts Barrier | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | R | Auto-Regen | N/A | Gaia Gear | Regenerates lost HP | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | R | Damage > MP| N/A | Judo Uniform | Converts HP Damage to MP | |------|------------|------|--------------------|----------------------------| | C |Gadget Combo| N/A | Mythril Claws | Foolproof combo | 0----------------------------------------------------------------------------0 -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- L I N K I N G -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- I don't have link, or someone to play with (at least right now) I'll get back to this section when I find stuff out. K THX BI! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- A P P E N D I C E S -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- In this section, well, sections, I will go over some of the more in-depth things this game has to offer. Most people won't care to read this, but for those crazy people that like to make Uber Teams with super in-depth strategies, this section is for you. - The Law - Clan Stratgies - Items/Weapons/Armor - Enemy Clans/Beasts =============================================================================== I Fought the Law! (and the law won) =============================================================================== There is always laws going on, these, I can only guess, are added to create some difficulty, or so that you can't use the same strategy over and over. That's not so bad, be like Bruce Lee in the best movie of all time "The Game of Death" always adapting based on your foe. Anyway, if you break a law, you'll get either a yellow or red card, like soccer. If you get a yellow card more then once in the same battle you'll probably get a red card. Now for each yellow card you get, you get penalized, like losing some status points, a weapon, a gil fine, or possibly just not getting an award. Depending on the level of the law you break, the penalty fits it. Now, if you get a red card your unit will have to leave the battle and be sent to jail, you can bail them out or let them fill out their sentence. It's always a good idea to let them sit in the jail. Why? Because then it gets the penalties off of their records. All it takes is two battles, and then you don't run such a high risk of getting another red card. Yes, this means you if you really want to, you can get away with breaking a few laws. However, you must take into consideration the penalty, and is it worth it? Such as: You have 3 units left, all badly damaged, the enemy has one uber powerful enemy. You have an assassin with 5 HP, and "Cornered" is outlawed and is easily a red- card. Do I recommend taking the red-card to and using "Last Breath". Absolutely. Sometimes, you just don't have a choice. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I Fought the Law (and I WON!) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There is ways around the laws besides just breaking them however. Sometime into the game you'll find out about Antilaw cards and law cards. You pull out one of these babies in battle, and BAM the law goes away. However, you may be thinking "Who the hell would want MORE laws?" Well you would stupid. If your opposing clan has many archers, you can ban "Missile" and they are screwed. See what you can do with anti and Law cards? Don't rely too heavily on them though. I usually just get a whole bunch of generic anti-law cards for things that I use, just in case. Otherwise the game doesn't challenge you to adopt, so try that, it'll make you a better player. =============================================================================== Clan Strategies =============================================================================== There are many strategies to use in this game involving the entire clan. Here are some tips and things I like to use. But first, let's go through the recruiting of new members. *When should you recruit? When you have less then 10 clan members. *How many should you Recruit? Less then 20, any more, and start cutting people. *Who should you recruit? That's up to you, however I pick a cut off limit for the basic stats, you know Attack power, magic Power, weapon defense, Magic resistance. I usually take my highest character with all each stat, remove all of his gear (it effects it greatly, and new Recruits don't come equipped) anything within 25 points of this is ideal. The only exception is when the character has learned an Expert job that you want. *Who do I take? Bangaa, I love Dragoons. I also took lots of Humans, I have a few Ninjas, because I like them. Besides that I have 3 vierra (2 Assassins, one in training to be one), two Nu Mou Sages, and some random people I needed for various mission requirements. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Strategy 1: Pair Up, and Kick ass! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In this strategy you take two units that you think will work well together, IE: A Sage and a Black Mage, and you put them together, and they target the same targets. Often units of the same job are Ideal for this strategy. Some others that work well are Archers and Dragoons, Gunners and Ninjas (Cover fire while the ninja moves in) and Ninjas and Assassins. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Strategy 2: Variety is the spice of life ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is what most people use, get tons of members all having different jobs. Then at the battle, take a look around and see what'd be the best counter attack force. This is good, but it's a basic and Novice strategy. Don't be a n00b, use something more advanced! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Strategy 3: California Uber Allies ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The name of this strategy comes from a Dead Kennedys song, which has absolutely nothing to do with the strategy, just felt like mentioning it. Anyway, this is where you get one job unit that's extremely powerful, and train up 3-5 of these bad-asses to the highest level possible. Assassins and mages are good for this type of strategy. Make sure you have anti-law cards to prevent shit from hitting the fan. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Strategy 4: Hah you can't hit me from way over there! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This strategy calls for using only distance units. Such as Archers, Hunters, Snipers, Gunners and mages. Most opponents rely on close attacks so if you can hit and move away they'll have no attack. However, if they can respond with distance units, it'll be a close fight, plus distance attacks are traditionally weaker then up close ones, so you'll be fighting longer. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Strategy 5: Okay let's take alpha...what's that? The fight's over? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the one I like to use the most. Basically you train your units to super fast and powerful, assassins, Theives, and Ninjas are good for this, some of your units should move twice before some of theirs move once. If you start them out as strong units (or teach Last Breath to the assassins) they should be able to kill in one or two hits. Combine this with strategy 1 and the enemies are in for some deep shit. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Some Tips for the optimal clan ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *Keep at least 1 of every item that has either 1) An ability it teaches, or 2) Has really high stats. You never know when you're going to switch jobs and want to teach all the abilities you can to a unit. Besides, by the point in the game where you'll have a ton of weapons the money won't even matter anymore, I have a fully stocked armory and well over 90,000 gil. It isn't even a deal anymore. So keep the weapons eh? *If you're not using a unit, let him go. Eventually he'll be so weak you'll do it anyway, for now he's just a waste of space in your "select units" menu at battles. *Always use the units that are jumping up and down for missions you haven't beaten yet (provided it's a dispatch one). These have the best chance of success. *Always use the units that are walking or slumping over for missions you've already beaten (provided it's a dispatch one). These have a lower chance of success, but if they do win, you'll get better rewards. *Teach all the abilities learnable to your units, at least 2 sets of them, for optimal efficiency, but make sure they are related. IE: A Black mage should know all Black magic and white magic spells. Or a Ninja should know all thief abilities. This will help you get around laws that are un-avoidable. It also helps if one set is marked "Tech" and the other one is "Skill", (that's one of the laws). *Train units that complement each other. A mage that knows an ability that puts enemy units to sleep and a thief are one great example. If the unit is asleep the chance of stealing is 100%. Mages and Soldiers work well, as do archers and units. Things like that, you get the idea. *Do dispatch missions over and over again, sometimes you'll need the mission items more than once, or you'll need two. Plus it's good experience for weaker troops. *For units that you like but are starting to get weak switch one of their abilities to "Item" and have another super strong unit go into battle with them, that one unit uses potions over and over, and the super strong unit fights the battle. *Don't always fight with the maximum number of units possible, this usually complicates strategies far more than they have to be. Just make sure your units can take the enemy units, or that if you lose the mission it won't be Game over (Your marche isn't in the battle). *Save before any fight in the Jagds, if one of your units gets KOed in there and you don't heal them you'll lose that unit and all the time you took training it forever. So play it safe and save eh? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Send in your Strat! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you've got a tip or strategy that works really well, send it in to me at "Happybuddha311(at)Aol(dot)Com! You can purchase most of these items at a Shop in any town (anything with a price is found in stores, or was found in stores while I was writing this), though sometimes you'll get them for clan level up bonuses or mission rewards. Also, the costs aren't fixed, they flux, so if your prices are more than what I have listed it's because I've beaten the game 90 some percent (as of the time of this writing). Some things that effect the price include: How far you are in the game, the number of places you've liberated (it helps if you've liberated the city at which you're shopping at) and the missions you've completed. Also the shop keep will inform you he'll say "Ahh, Clan ______, I've lowered prices just for you" (or something to that effect).
