- English Translation for Castlevania: Circle of the Moon - Begun 4.4.01.16:00 Completed 4.17.01.10:30 © Copyright 2001 Brendan Frayne Following is an English translation for the story dialogues in Akumajou Dracula: Circle of the Moon, for Gameboy Advance. Yes, I know Konami will release it in English soon, but if you just can't wait, you're in luck. Translation notes are at the end. - Intro Sequence - "The year is 1830. In an old Austrian castle, the Lord of Darkness is being resurrected by one who craves chaos." - Opening Scene - Carmilla: I summon thee forth, lord of pain and wickedness. Dracula: I have been waiting for this moment. Wonderful... I can feel the growing darkness and moonlight surging through my body. Carmilla: Lord Dracula, I tremble with pleasure at our meeting. Dracula: I live... However, I've not yet recovered my full strength. Carmilla: We will have a ceremony to restore your full power. Preparations shall be made immediately. Morris Baldwin: Wait! You shall not be released into this world! Dracula: Bastard... I remember you. You're what remains of the 'Vampire Killer' who sealed me away... My, you've grown old. Morris Baldwin: It is our duty to destroy you. Dracula: How amusing. I'll use your life force to fully restore my power. ...But these kids aren't needed here! (Nathan and Hugh fall) Morris Baldwin: Hugh! Nathan! Nathan: Mr. Baldwin!! Hugh: Dad!! (After falling to the bottom) Nathan: ...Somehow I don't seem to be injured. Hugh, are you all right? Hugh: Yeah... Damn it! Things aren't looking good for us. Nathan: We've got to rescue your father quickly. Hugh: I'll go. He's my father, I'll rescue him. Nathan, get out of the castle. Don't get in the way. Nathan: I've got to rescue my teacher. I'm not gonna be stopped by anyone. - Meeting with the Necromancer - Necromancer: To have fallen into hell while yet alive... You unlucky fellow... Nathan: Get out of my way! Necromancer: Boy, I'll tell you now, before you die: Your precious mentor is already in our hands. Nathan: !! Necromancer: That old fool's fate is to become the Master's flesh and blood. Preparations for the ceremony are in order... When the moon is full, we'll begin. Nathan: What are you saying? (After the fight) Nathan: Our teacher's still alive! Hang on, Mr. Baldwin. ...But where on earth has Hugh gone? - Meeting with Hugh - Nathan: Hugh! You're all right! Hugh: What the heck are you doing here? Have you come to steal my achievement? Nathan: How can you say such a thing at a time like this? I want to save your father, too. Hugh: You're a nuisance. I'll defeat Dracula on my own. And then... Nathan: Hugh... (Hugh runs off) - 2nd Meeting with Hugh - (Hugh is knocked through the door) Nathan: Hugh! Are you all right? Hugh: Bastard! Get lost. Keep your hands off my prize! (Tries to get up) Hugh: Damn, it... Nathan: Hugh... (Nathan enters boss' lair) - After defeating Mr. Goat Head (Adromeleck) - Hugh: Damn! Who said they needed help? Nathan: Oh, you didn't need any help, eh? Hugh: Make no mistake, jerk, you won just by the power in that whip! Nathan: Eh? Hugh: You, who never beat me even once in training, were selected by my father as his successor and awarded the hunter's whip. Your parents, together with my father, sealed Dracula. That's the only reason you get the attention you do! Don't you forget it! (Stalks off) - Carmilla - Nathan: If I'm not mistaken, you were the one at Dracula's resurrection. Carmilla: I am Carmilla. I revived the Count. Nathan: How could you bring him back? Do you want to turn this world into hell? Carmilla: Don't you think this world is already hell? People have become dirty creatures, who yearn for enemies and revel in chaos and power. We want to change your world into something more appropriate... There's no great difference between your world and ours. Nathan: Don't be so full of yourself! Carmilla: If you'd just release the darkness hidden in your heart, you'd be able to experience a wonderful world. Nathan: Shut up! Carmilla: You're just like that other boy was... He was full of integrity. The Master and I took an interest in him... Ha ha ha! Nathan: What? What have you done to Hugh? (After the fight) Carmilla: You're too late. The preparations for the ceremony are all set. We only need wait for the full moon to rise. It's just a matter of time before the Master's full strength is returned... Your precious master and your friend are... Carmilla: Mr. Baldwin! Hugh! Damn it! - Battle Arena - "Beyond this point is the arena, where you can put your training to the test. Beyond, you cannot draw upon spirit power to use your DSS abilities. Also, once you set foot in the chamber, you cannot leave until you've defeated all opponents inside. There will be a prize for those who pass this trial." - Hugh Duel - Hugh: You came... Nathan. Nathan: Hugh! Thank goodness, you're all right! I'd thought for sure that... (Hugh takes a swing at Nathan) Nathan: Hugh, what are you doing!? Hugh: My skill surpasses yours. I'll beat you and prove it to my father... Nathan: He's being manipulated... By Carmilla? No, by Dracula!! (After the fight) Nathan: Please stop! I don't want to hurt you any further! Hugh!! Hugh: Nathan? Ahh, ow, I... ...Thank you... I heard you, your voice was calling to me... Nathan: ...Hugh. Are you all right? Hugh: Nathan... I was jealous of you. Nathan: !? Hugh: I was afraid that there'd be no need for me, what with the attention my father gave you. I justed wanted to be noticed... Nathan: Enough... It's okay... Hugh: My father saw that darkness in my heart. So he chose you... Nathan: Stop, Hugh. Hugh: It's okay. Now, even I understand that my father's choice was right. Heh... Don't make me embarrass myself further. My Dad... Nathan, save our teacher. Please. Nathan: All right. - Dracula - Dracula: You've done well to have struggled this far, kid. Bah! Nathan: Mr. Baldwin! Dracula: Perfect. The proper time for the ritual has come. I'll consume your strength as well as the old man's. Nathan: Oh, you think so? Mr. Baldwin! Are you all right? Dracula: How charming, the bond between teacher and student. But that love will soon be transformed into evil. I'd expect you possess it, too. The darkness in your heart... Nathan: What are you saying? Dracula: To rise above everything... To accomplish all you desire... Nathan: ! Dracula: ...To have everyone's affection... ...Wouldn't you strike down your peers for such things? Your friend was thinking about it. I gave power to that darkness within him. Nathan: You bastard!! Toying with people's hearts! I won't allow it! (Fight with Dracula's first form) Dracula: Power... My full strength... Nathan: What the!? Morris Baldwin: Go after him! We can't let him escape! Damn... Nathan: !! Hugh: I'll take care of my father. You go after Dracula! Nathan: All right. You two go on ahead and escape from the castle. Hugh: Beat Dracula. And, make sure you come back. Nathan: Hugh. - Ending - Dracula: ...It's useless. I can't be defeated. The blood of those who'd resurrect me... The darkness in people's hearts... I will awake whenever these call out to me. Nathan: And when you do, we'll be here again. ...Remember that as you die. (Dracula burns up) Nathan: Mr. Baldwin, are you all right? Morris Baldwin: Nathan. Thank you. You really did well. ...You've grown to be a fine Hunter. Hugh. I thank you, too. But you'll have to continue your training. Hugh: I know, Dad. It's like I've got a fresh start in life. I'll continue my training with that sentiment. (Walks over to Nathan) Hugh: Hey, Nathan. If you'll cut me a little slack, I'll fill in for you anytime. Nathan: I'd like that, Hugh! - The End - - Translation Notes - Less than 3 months from now Konami will probably release the US version of Circle of the Moon, rendering this translation more or less useless. But for those who are playing the Japanese version of this fine game and can't wait, or don't want to buy the English language version, enjoy. As far as my approach to the dialogue, I stuck as close to the Japanese meanings as possible, but occasionally had to modify the English. That's to say in a few cases I might have sacrificed a little grammatical accuracy for a better-sounding English sentence. Not that I took any liberties in embellishing the dialogue, changing meanings, or anything like that. Of course, some sentences might seem a little awkward that I left them too Nihongo-teki. I translated this game into English because I wanted to. I have no ties with Konami, etc. It's a fan translation. If you post it on your own page, or use parts of it, I'd appreciate it if you'd credit me for whatever you use. This translation and document are available specifically for non-profit use. Comments are welcome, unless they are scornful. For stuff I didn't know, I consulted the illustrious Nelson Kanji dictionary. I also used a wonderful word processing program called JWPce. Thanks to Konami for a nice game. (It's published by KCE Tokyo, and programmed by KCE Kobe.) Thank goodness there are still 2D games. Thank you for reading.
