Just to let you know, this FAQ is based on the demo version of the Sonic Adventure 2 disc that was included with the Phantasy Star Online game. It's a short but hopefully an informative guide to those of you who want to take full advantage of the demo. This demo can keep you busy for a few days, or hours. The voices are in Japanese since it is still under development. It's plans for the official US release is on May 2, 2001. This is not a definite release date, as SEGA could push it back a little. From the looks of it, it'll probably be another great Sonic title. It has very smooth graphics and the new controls are very cool! Though, there's not THAT much of a difference in the controls. Who could ever resist another great Sonic game by our faithful Sonic team at SEGA? And yes, I know my format looks a bit goofy. I'm well aware of that. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Game Basics =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Ok, there may not be many options here, but this section is here to get you acquainted with the controls. They are of course similar to the ones from the first Sonic Adventure game for Dreamcast. BASIC CONTROLS ---------------- basic controls Start Button –- Opens/Closes Pause Menu Trigger L/R –- Pan the Camera A Button -- Jump B Button -- Somesault/Action Y Button -- Toggle Action Window X Button -- Action Analog Stick -- Walk/Run SONIC MOVES ------------- sonic moves -Jump Dash- Description: While jumping in the air, Sonic curls up into a ball and speeds toward enemies like a huma...er, hedgehog cannonball. Some how, Sonic will be able to hone in on enemies if they are nearby. Effectiveness: Very cool. You could smash boxes, cars and other stuff. Buttons: Press A to jump, and in midair press A again. -Spin Dash- Description: Sonic curls up into a ball and charges himself. When the button is released, Sonic dashes off at supersonic speed! Difficult to control if you're trying to get those rings, or any other items. Effectiveness: You can move around much quicker this way, but it is not recommended to use this move on enemies. You could roll up walls and along them, that is if you're still in the spinning state. Buttons: Press and hold B to start Sonic spinning and release to watch him go! -Somersault- Description: Sonic does a few front flips to attack enemies or smash things that are in his way. Effectiveness: A very nice attack to use against the police robots in this level. Plus, you get to ram headlong into cars, crates and stuff. -Board- Description: Available only on the first level, which is Sonic's geta- way from the uh, police or something. Fun, fun. Effectiveness: Hey, Sonic's momentum is strong enough to knock cable cars, buses, vans, and other vehicles out of the way; think of what it can do to his enemies! Sadly, it's a one time boarding trip down the hill. Cherish the fun while it lasts. Buttons: Use Analog stick to maneuver the board and press A to perform sick tricks off of the provided ramps. -Grind- Description: Did Sonic get a pair of those Soap shoes? Who knows, but Sonic can grind on rails! This is probably the coolest feature yet. Effectiveness: Nothing but insane fun! Buttons: Jump on the rail and start grinding! Use the Analog Stick to to control Sonic on curvy rails. Press B to jump off, or simply slide off at the end. -Push- Description: Sonic can push or move boxes around. Effectiveness: Clear or make new paths by um, pushing boxes. You can't use this move to full effectiveness in the trial version. Buttons: With the Analog stick, press it in the direction Sonic is facing the box. -Throw- Description: If Sonic is holding something, he can throw it in any direction you please. Effectiveness: Not particularly useful in the trial version, but if you would like to have a little fun. You can pick up Omochao and chuck it into the void. Buttons: Assuming you're holding something, run forward and press B. * Feign Somersault Description: Sonic will perform a single Somersault, or front flip, and will immediately return to its original position. Effectiveness: A good tactic to use against tough enemies, but that doesn't apply here. Buttons: Press A to do a somesault, and press B immediately after to return. * = A move that was not listed in the manual. I found it out myself and I also invented the name. ^_^ It very well may not be a real move, but it works. ACTION BUTTON --------------- action button There is an action window on the upper right corner of the screen. It appears only to inidicate the use of an appropriate action. When more than one action is possible at the time, press Y to toggle the action window. You are allowed the following actions: Pick Up -- Sonic is able to pick up/carry items. This action is available only when the item is accessible. Brake -- While boarding at the beginning of the level, Sonic can brake, or slow down. Whistle -- Sonic whistles to lure hidden creatures out of pipes, or other hiding places. View -- Sonice can examine objects that seem peculiar. When the Action Window does not appear for any reason, press the Y button to toggle the window. USELESS TRIVIA ---------------- useless trivia #1: If you have collected at least one ring, you can withstand getting hurt only once by an enemy. Once you get hurt, all the collected rings "escape". When this happens, frantically run around amassing them once again. If you get hit with no rings, then you game over. #2: To prevent starting over again from the beginning, successfully pass through Point Markers to "save" your spot. Doing this, you won't have to start all over. Instead, you'll start from the last mark you have cleared, providing you have enough lives to do so. #3: For unknown reasons, you may Restart your entire game under one condition: You must give up a life. This option will not be available if you are devoid of lives. Nyah. It's not like you need to restart anyway. #4: As you whip down the hills, you can clear your path of cars by ramming into the with the Somersault move. Amazing! You may even find useful items underneath vehicles. Cool! =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Walkthrough =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ----------------------- | STAGE 1: | | City Escape | | Find the Goal Ring. | ----------------------- [Cinema] A military plane flies over Tokyo (??). And inside contains the ever so dangerous Sonic the hedgehog. Sonic makes a brilliant escape and complains about the plane service. Then, off he goes, sky diving. Weeeeeeeeeee! [End Cinema] Yessss! Cruisin' Tokyo! You start the game off by making your escape in style by boarding down the endless hills, much like San Fransisco. You can pull off a few tricks while your at it on the launch ramps provided as you speed down. Better savoring every moment of this, cuz it's gonna end real soon! Soon after, Sonic will stop and jump onto a new area. The board is no more. In this area, stray from the game for a bit and get acquainted with the buttons. Once you've got a good feel of the buttons, run to the upper right corner to find some crates. Smash them using Sonic's Somersault move. Underneath the crates, there is a small pipe sticking out of the ground. Press the B button to whistle and lure out the cute animal. Grab it and go. In the same area, there's this little hovering mechanical thing. Bump into it to initiate a sort of conversation: " I am Omochao! When you need my help, just look for me." --------------- Head up the stairs and run into your first enemy, a police robot (??). Dispose of it using Somersault or the Jump Dash attack. There is a Metal box on the platform ahead. Ignore it, as you can't do anything with it, and run along the path below. Near the first set of stairs, you'll notice a sphere thing with something inside floating above you. To get it, roll up into a ball and shoot off along the wall. As long as you have the momentum, you won't fall off. It may take a few tries. Once you've gotten it, you'll find another Omochao at the foot of the stairs. Again, bump into him to talk: "When you destroy the enemy robots, you may find useful things for your Chao." --------------- Nevermind what he said, just scratch it out, as the Chao garden is not accessible on this trial version. Run up the stairs and head to your left to find yet, another Omochao beside a stack of wooden crates. It will tell you: "Use B button to Somersault. You can break wood boxes using the Somersault." --------------- Before doing that, look to your right to find a pair of benches. There is a blue bird chirping away underneath one of them. Wait for it to come out and grab it. Now, return to the boxes and break through them to proceed to the next area. Once again, meet up with Omochao to learn a new trick: "You can slide on rails." --------------- Perhaps it is a little vague, but you should get the idea. Hop on the rail and start grinding! Collect the rings along the way. Afterwards, you'll find yourself in an area with a quarter pipe (I don't know what it is really called). Head to your left, and in the corner against the pipe, there is an Omochao next to another one of those pipes. "There are hidden animals in this pipe. Whistle and the hidden animals will appear." --------------- Like he says, whistle and an animal will pop out. Now move on to the fluctuating platforms. Notice there is another sphere floating above the furthest one away from you. To get it, run to the top of the stairs and hop onto the first platform. It may be hard to do so since you can't change camera angles. Before moving on, grab the little bird moving around under the bench. Just ahead is a point marker with an Omochao next to it. "On the ramp, press A button to bust a cool trick." --------------- Yes! You get to run downhill again! But sadly, this time you're uh, boardless. That's ok, though. As you make your way down, make sure to go on the ramp stationed where you make your first right turn. It may be hard to get to it the first time around. If you miss it, just turn around and go back. Pick up some speed and launch off the ramp busting a trick or two. Doing this, you will be able to get the sphere high up above the ground. This particular sphere will cast a shield-like thing around Sonic, protecting from any harm. It will disappear if you get hurt by an enemy robot, though. At the bottom of the hill, knock all the parked cars out of the way to reveal two animals hiding under them. Snag them and be on your way. Oh there is also an Omochao around nearby: "Chao will be happy to see all the animals when you bring them to the garden." --------------- Next, go on those bouncy things to the upper level. Before proceeding, take a look behind the Recycle bin to find another animal. Now, get a move on. On the last ledge to your right, just before the enemy robot at the top of the stairs, there is a wooden crate, a Chao container, and an Omochao. When you smash open the Chao container, you'll hear: "Within each stage, there are 3 Chao containers. One of the three containers contains a hidden surprise. Have fun opening the containers. --------------- Grab the Chao item and move on. Now here's another downhill thing. Go on the first ramp to your right, and launch off of it as high as Sonic can. You should've gotten the sphere containing the "shoe," which enables Sonic to run faster than usual for a very limited time. Once you got it, quickly return to the ramp and launch off of it one more time to get the Life Up. At the end, there is a helpless bunny. Woo! Head into the arch, and you'll see two enemy cop robots awaiting your awaiting your arrival. Ignore them for now, and make your way up the quarter pipe. At the top, there is another Chao container and Omochao. "There's a Chao key inside here. Once you have this key, use it to get into the Chao garden." --------------- Smash the box open and grab the prize inside. Next, tip-toe near the launch pad, and you'll be ricocheted from pad to pad until you land. Doing this, you will have collected the sphere on your way down. You should have landed near a point marker. Before moving on, however, drop down to the lower level and go to the right of the ledge to find a pink bunny. Use the red crane thing to get back up. Ok, I'll finish this up the next update ok? It'll be soon. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Contact Information =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- If you have any further questions concerning the game, or as to why stealing is bad contact me via e-mail.
